Chapter XXIII: Baron Rothschild's Invitation
Just as Tyran was sorting out Prince Louis's belongings and cleaning the carpet of clutter, a crisp knock rang from the main hall to the corridor on the second floor.
Tyran, who heard the knock on the door, handed over the cleaning to the maid and went downstairs alone to open the door with the handrail of the stairs.
The door of the mansion opened, and an old man with a pale face, gray hair, and an unsmiling man appeared at the door of the Bonaparte Mansion, wearing a short pleated fufrak gown, a shiny black cotton vest top, a pair of black trousers, and a brownish-gray cane in his hand.
"Who are you?" Tyran looked carefully at the guy in front of him, and in his memory Prince Louis's friends were either young and energetic guys, or some retired soldiers, and he had never been an old man.
Could it be that this guy in front of you is a friend of Prince Jérôme?
"This is Prince Louis's mansion!" The old man asked Tyran politely, and asked with a butler-like smile on his face.
"That's right! This is the home of Prince Louis! After tyranny nodded, he added with a gloomy expression: "However, Prince Louis is no longer there!" Now the mansion is presided over by Prince Jérôme! ”
The old man said with a regretful expression: "Allow me, on behalf of my master, to express my regret for the departure of Prince Louis!" It is a sad thing for such a courageous and upright man as Prince Louis to return to the arms of God! ”
"yes!" Tyran hurriedly nodded in agreement with the old man's statement, and asked again, "May I ask which one of your masters is British?" ”
The old man's expression changed from regret to seriousness, and he considered the words and said, "My master is Leonel. Baron Rothschild! ”
"Leonel. Rothschild! Tyran's face changed dramatically.
He was familiar with the name, and he was the de facto head of the Rothschild Bank branch in the United Kingdom, which had three branches in Europe, one in Britain, one in France, and one in Frankfurt. The same is Louis. Napoleon's number one creditor.
Louis. After the death of his father, Louis the Sr. King of the Netherlands, Napoleon sold the property of Louis Sr. to barely make up for the previous shortfall, and then borrowed 600,000 francs from the Rothschild Bank of Britain as collateral for Napoleon souvenirs.
"What is the matter with the Rothschilds? Prince Louis is gone! Thinking that the Rothschilds might come to collect the debt, Tyran asked in an unkind tone.
The old man obviously heard the unkindness of Tyran's words, but as a servant of the banker, how could he choose to shut up because of the bad mood of the creditor, the old man continued: "My master, Baron Rothschild, has no other meaning, he just wants to invite Prince Jérôme to visit the Baron's mansion!" If Your Excellency the Prince has time! ”
With that, the old man took out a big red invitation with the Rothschild mark and handed it to Tyran, and said, "Be sure to give this to Prince Jérôme!" ”
Tyran, who took the invitation, didn't look at the contents of it, nodded and responded, "I will forward the invitation to Prince Jérôme!" ”
The old man smiled with satisfaction and rode away in a carriage.
Looking at the invitation in his hand, Tyran sighed and placed it on the guest table in the main hall.
After about 20 minutes, Pesini and Jérôme returned to the mansion in a horse-drawn carriage.
Tyran quickly got up to greet him and took Leonel. The news of the arrival of the Rothschild butler was informed of Jérôme.
"The Rothschilds?" Sitting on the sofa, leaning forward slightly. Bonaparte stared at the red invitation on the guest table, wondering why Rothschild needed to invite him to the mansion.
If it was just a simple debt collection, it would have been possible to invite Jérôme over without such a "big move".
The debt of 600,000 francs is really not worth Leonel. Rothschild took matters into his own hands.
According to the equity of later generations, the Rothschild family's property during this period totaled more than 90 million francs, which is only the resources that the Rothschilds themselves can use.
What bankers are best at is using their principal as a crowbar to win over some people with comparable economic power, or some retail investors to increase or short the bonds of a certain country.
A single Rothschild is not terrible, but what is terrible is the allies who unite around the Rothschilds and the retail investors who are deposited in the Rothschild bank.
Just like the financial turmoil that Soros caused throughout Southeast Asia at the end of the 20th century, bankers in this period were best at "taking over" for the government.
Of course, the premise of this "takeover" is that the government can bring them enough benefits.
"You say Leonel. Why did Rothschild want to see me? "Jérôme. Bonaparte turned to ask several of the Bonapartists present.
"I met Prince Louis at the beginning, Rothschild's head of the family, he is not a good man!" Pesini frowned, Leonel. The appearance of Rothschild was clearly not expected by Pessini either.
"Or do we refuse?" Fleury proposed: "It's just an invitation, it's up to us to go or not!" ”
"It's not just an invitation, Fleury should use your brain and think about it!" Percini said with hatred that iron is not made of steel.
"And what do you think it should be?" Into. Fleury, who was a little upset about Napoleon's death, retorted.
Seeing that the whole room was about to be filled with the smell of gunpowder. Seeing this, Bonaparte hastened to stop the subject, fearing that if he continued to talk like this, the whole Bonaparte party would fall apart.
"That's it! Perciny, Fleury, we can't help no matter how we talk about it! If the other party really has evil thoughts, no matter how much we struggle, it will be useless! "Jérôme. Bonaparte spread his hands and said helplessly: "After all, the situation is stronger than people now, and we can't resist!" Of course, I believe in Leonel. Baron Rothschild would not do such a thing! If he does......"
Jérôme. Bonaparte paused, and said with a hint of cruelty in his eyes: "Then he is ready to fight the Bonaparte family to the death!" I will completely eradicate this European "cancer" in my lifetime! Europe is not the Europe of the Jews, how can we allow a Jew to ride on the head of Europa! ”
In the 19th century, Europe was still in the midst of a wave of anti-Semitism, let alone in the turbulent era of 1848.
The death of a Jewish banker or two is obviously not uncommon.
