Chapter 8 Something Interesting Discovered

............

The cart gurgled forward in the dark tunnel.

Probably because the tunnel is slightly inclined, the car slides completely naturally and does not need to be driven by other external forces.

The advantage is that you don't have to think about how to make the car move, and the disadvantage is that the car is a little slow under gravity drive.

The wind blew from the front, hit my face and whirred on both sides of my head, making my head dizzy and my eyes a little dry, so I switched places with the doctor, and he sat in front of the cart, and I nestled in the back of the cart.

The doctor readily agreed. Anyway, he wears a mask and is not afraid of the wind.

And then we spent hours in the car......

During this time, I did not feel the slightest feeling of sleepiness or exhaustion.

Well, it's reasonable to think about it, after all, it's unlikely that you'll dream again.

Otherwise...... A dream within a dream?

There seems to be a resemblance to the movie I've seen.

Just as I was thinking about what I didn't have, the car clanged and hit the wall at the finish line.

"Ah, it's time to stop." The doctor sitting at the front of the car leaned forward, pushed the door open, and a bright light shone in.

The doctor and I walked out of the exit by the bright light.

It also seems to be a luxury villa-like building, but it doesn't look like my cramped cottage anyway.

Although the villa is large, it is bare, just like the previous castle, without any furniture and items. It's like it's been ransacked.

Without much exploration, leaving the villa, we entered the midst of the clusters of high-rise buildings.

The buildings here are so high that the sunlight barely shining through the clouds can't cast them on the skyscrapers, so the streets are very dark. There are also no street lights.

Speaking of which, this world does not seem to change day and night, it is always day.

That's a good thing, because I don't have a clock in the dream world, and I can't spend the night.

Hey, is it because I don't have a clock that the day doesn't change?

There was no one on the street, it was empty. The wind whistled through the buildings, and the wind seemed to be much stronger than in the previous broken city.

I noticed something strange growing on the side of the road, such as a battery.

It's not strange that batteries grow out of the ground, it's strange about the appearance of the batteries themselves.

The batteries on my farm are one by one, short cylindrical, with large faces and short columns. But the shapes of the batteries here are varied, from cube-shaped, polyhedral-shaped, star-shaped, and even irregular.

I'm pretty sure they're batteries, with my years of experience growing batteries. But I don't know why they look so weird, is it a mutant variant?

And they seemed to grow wildly because they were untended and harvested, and the streets were lined with a jumble of wires—those were their stems—on which hung those strange batteries, waving in the wind. From time to time, it would sway and hit us in the face, which hurt a little.

The doctor is fine, there is a mask in the way. But I guess that's how the corner of his mask broke.

After walking around the street for a while, and finding nothing, we decided to find a building and go inside.

I found a 100-meter-high building nearby. Just as we wanted to explore, we found that we had a problem before the project even started – we couldn't find the entrance to the tall building.

Yes, it does not have an entrance.

We circled around it several times and finally settled on a tall building with no entrance or even a secret door.

Good thing it has windows, thank goodness.

We found a rock to use as a stepping stone, and the doctor and I easily climbed through the window.

"Hmm...... There's not much here. The doctor looked around and saw that it was also a four-walled building.

That's true, but there also seems to be something not quite right here.

Like what...... The load-bearing columns here seem to be a bit too much......

There are very few walls, which seem to be irregularly distributed, and they hardly serve as a partition to separate the "rooms". The columns are distributed in the building like a dot matrix, which is very regular.

What's even stranger......

"There's really no gateway to the outside world." The doctor took a few steps and concluded, "And there is no staircase leading to the upper floor." ”

So this is a "matchbox" building. And it's the kind that doesn't have an interior.

It seems that most of the designers of this building have that serious illness.

"I always feel like things are getting weirder." I pondered the connections between the events in this world. "The structure of an individual villa is very 'normal'. But the building of the group is unusual. They're both buildings, but what's the difference? ”

There must be some kind of demarcation between the normal and the abnormal.

"Sir," the doctor said, standing by the window, looking out of the window with a solemn face, "please come over for a moment." ”

I couldn't see his expression even though he was wearing a mask, but somehow I knew he was supposed to be very solemn.

"What's wrong?" I walked over.

"Look outside."

I looked out and didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

"Look at the ground of the street." The doctor reminded.

I looked carefully at the streets, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

The gray ground, the slightly cracked surface, the clutter of batteries, and the occasional bits and pieces of debris can be seen blown by the wind, rolling and whirring on the ground. It's business as usual.

"Look at the building over there." The doctor reached out and pointed to an even larger building across the street.

"Hmm...... What's wrong? I squinted and looked closely: "...... Hey? ”

The building looked the same as the one we were, except that it was taller. Strangely, however, the bottom of the building appears to be "buried in the ground", with windows appearing where it meets the ground.

At a cursory glance, the windows on the first floor of the building were no more than half a meter above the ground.

"That one is more obvious." The doctor pointed to the building a little farther away and said, "The window even goes through the ground, half of it is underground. ”

It looks like it's been molded.

"This ...... What does this mean? I wondered.

"Didn't you notice, sir?" The doctor pointed down again. "We're on the rise. Very slowly rising. To be precise, the building is 'growing', it's like a plant, it's 'jointing'. ”

"It's the same with those buildings. It's just that our one is a little special, and it 'just finished a joint', so the first floor looks intact and not partially embedded underground. ”

"It also explains why they don't have stairs and entrances, and why the structure of the building is so haphazard......"

"Because they 'grow' out of the ground."

"Here, it's a forest of steel."
