Chapter XVII: In the City, Abbot, Water Mountain
............
The scene in the core area is really extraordinary, and the inside and outside of the walls seem to be two worlds.
Even the villages on the outskirts of the Holy City had not been hardened in any way, and they were all wasteland that could be found everywhere in the wasteland, and it was muddy when it rained. The interior of the Holy City is hardly visible in the wilderness, either paved with bricks or poured with metal. The architectural style is also completely different from the village buildings I have seen before, and the outer villages are basically small wooden houses or stone houses, which are relatively simple. In the core area, it's a whole different story: starting from the city walls, you will find low, crooked streets of different styles – presumably because of the multi-ethnic nature of the Holy City.
In the past, there were humans, intelligent machines, sheep, wolves - oh, wolves should not be residents, but domestic animals or pets raised by residents. It seems that residents of different races have different habitable environments and live in different areas.
The streets, though crooked, are surprisingly clean and tidy. I followed the preacher through stone streets, metal streets, jade streets, and finally into a cluster of tall buildings. Billboards with words engraved with various colors of light are scattered among the high-rise buildings in the forest, and it is difficult for the sunlight to pass through the layers of obstacles and cast a few words on the ground, resulting in a little cold here. However, the neon signs that hover over the knot cleverly cover up this shortcoming, and it still makes people feel a bit of a lively atmosphere.
The overall pattern of the core area of the holy city is roughly like this, in the shape of a "mountain", low on all sides and high in the middle. The high-rise buildings here are not as shoddy as the jointed high-rise buildings in the dream world, but are majestic and majestic. They stand in the middle of heaven and earth, showing the prosperity of the holy city.
The preacher quickly led me to the largest Buddhist temple in the Holy City and one of the holy places of Buddhism.
There are no street lights or neon lights here. The architectural style of the big electric sound temple is very similar to the small electric sound temple I have seen, the jade household of the Zhu column, the carved beams of the painting, and the faint light of the Buddha.
"Please wait here." The preacher said to me. Its display resolution is very high, higher than the resolution of the light screen on the Buddha master I saw earlier in the small electric music temple. What should I say, it's a big temple.
The black cat sniffed around, and seemed to be a little unaccustomed to the changes in its surroundings, looking a little nervous, and its whiskers were moving, and some of them were cute.
The preacher stood still for a moment, and after a while, a mechanical monk who appeared to be more well-equipped stepped out of the temple. It is also dressed in a golden-red robe, holding a uniquely shaped Zen staff in its left hand and a cage in its right hand.
There are three dream cicadas in the cage, clinging to the cage wall, their wings trembling slightly.
I introduced myself that it was the abbot of the outer courtyard of the Great Electric Music Temple. It expressed its sincere gratitude for my willingness to exchange books and said that I had been included in the friendly whitelist of the Buddhist Gate Network – other temples or Buddhist practitioners who maintained an information exchange with the temple would be friendly to me.
It was a bonus.
I handed in the Diamond Sutra and asked the question about the lost name.
The abbot listened to my question, pondered—or, rather, after searching the database for a while—told me:
"Unfortunately, the data shows that almost all of the creatures in the wasteland are nameless. Strictly speaking, the Dharma name of my Buddhism is not a name, but a kind of ...... The ancient Buddhist customs have continued to this day. Because having a name in the wasteland is a dangerous thing, there were quite a few creatures that had names a long time ago - but not now, that in itself says something, doesn't it? ”
The abbot meant that most of the creatures with names died, so most of the creatures that came after them were nameless. I shook my head, not satisfied with the answer: "But I remember clearly that I used to have a name, but one day I forgot it." How can this be explained? ”
"It's really rare." The abbot "thought" for a moment and said, "But it's not without cases. We at the Buddhist Gate have observed the occasional strange creatures in the Holy City. Strange here does not mean that species are strange, they may be humans, robots, or whatever. Strangely enough, they weren't born in the wasteland—nor in the Source Realm. They seem to have names of their own, and many of them have been forgotten after coming to the Holy City. ”
"Oh, yes." The abbot seemed to think of something, "This is the case with a walker in my Daidenyin Temple, who has a 'common name' and has not forgotten it. ”
"Can you be more specific? It's important to me. When I heard this, I was a little excited.
"Absolutely." "Although it forgot its name, its name data was uploaded to the database of a nearby temple as soon as possible, which allowed it to download it back and learn its name," said the abbot. It doesn't seem to be a smart machine, but it's very similar to it. It claims to be the Mechanical Engraver - this seems to be its title of sorts, and it prefers that title to its name: P03. It claims to complete the Final Meditation, but somehow appears in the Holy City, causing it to have serious self-doubt. After patiently enlightening it, it finally let go of its obsession and joined our Buddhism and became a practitioner. ”
I was a little disappointed that it turned out to be an intelligent machine, and it was a means to recover the lost name.
I can't replicate it, and I'm not a robot.
But...... Hey?
The time period when I lost my memory was probably after I came to settle in the wasteland. So maybe I have a clue to my name in my house? In the same way that P03 saves information by uploading data, maybe I left some records before I forgot my name. I don't remember doing anything like that, but maybe I forgot about it......
A chance to go home and see.
"Well, thank you, Master Abbot." I thanked, "In addition to my name, I have forgotten some of my past memories. Does the master know how to recover what has been forgotten? ”
The abbot rubbed the Zen staff in his hand, and the display on his face showed a picture: it seemed to be an ordinary wasteland scene, but the ground was full of water, and the wasteland was moist and sticky, and the texture was strange.
This is...... Standing water in a pile?
It doesn't seem to be, it's just ordinary water—because I saw a wolf in the picture, drinking from it. In the distance, you can faintly see a blue mountain, which is very similar to the color of the canopy, almost blending into one, and it is difficult to distinguish.
"...... this?"
"This is a mountain of water." Abbot said. "To the north of the core area of the Holy City - the annex of Yunjian. It was a swamp with a mountain of water in the center. According to the database, the living water at the top of the mountain has the effect of cleansing the soul, and may awaken the hidden memories in the heart of the benefactor. ”
"Thank you." I'm a little pleased. "Then don't bother—"
"It's not early, and the donor has just come to the Holy City, so there must be no suitable place to live. Why don't you stay at my Dadianyin Temple for one night before you make plans? The abbot turned off the screen projection and suggested loudly.
I looked up at the sky, and although the Jade Qiong Tower of this holy city obscured a large area of the sky, I could also tell that it was evening at this time. I really need to find a place to rest, so that's fine.
Once again, I thanked the abbot and walked into the temple.
And the preacher turned back and left the way he came—to go back to the city gate to continue preaching, and the intelligent machine did not need to rest, which is really convenient.
I walked into the temple and prepared to spend my first night in the Holy City.
