Chapter 2: Diagon Alley
"Welcome, Mr. Brie Ode, you'll soon be a little wizard."
Emmeline made a rare joke, so she restrained her smile and said elegantly, "I think you should have brought that letter." β
Brie nodded, and calmly took out the opened letter from his satchel, the envelope was made of heavy parchment, without a postage stamp, and on the top of the envelope was a wax seal, a shield coat of arms, and a lion, an eagle, a badger, and a snake surrounded by the letters "H" in capital letters.
This is the letter from Hogwarts. The familiar Hogwarts crest on it made Emmeline smile.
Taking the letter from Brie, Emmeline opened itβ
Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: Albus Dumbledore (President of the International Confederation of Magic, President of the Wizarding Guild, First Class Wizard of the Order of Merlin)
The Honourable Brie Storm Odeh StormΒ· OrderοΌοΌ
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Enclosed is a list of the required books and equipment. Semester is scheduled to begin on September 1. We will wait for your owl to hear back from you by July 31.
Vice-Chancellor Minerva McGonagall.
On the back of the letter is written what you need to go to school......
There were several other letters in Brie's satchel that Brie had written to Hogwarts and Emmeline, but they didn't matter anymore.
Emmeline looked at the back of the letter and said, "Well, it's about the same as when I was in school, so I'll take the letter and buy those cauldrons, textbooks, etc., you go to the robes store and Lady Morkin to buy school uniforms, I have something to do in the afternoon, we need to hurry." β
"But before that, we have to go to Gringotts, Muggles and wizards have different currencies, well, Muggles are ordinary people who don't have magic."
"Okay."
Brie doesn't have a choice, does she, Emmeline looks like an elegant lady, but she's unexpectedly strong, or she just thinks that Brie is a small kid and can't buy it all without losing money.
Brie and Emmeline came to Gringotts, where a snow-white building towered above the surrounding shops, and by the gleaming bronze gate, stood a figure dressed in a scarlet and gold uniform.
It was a goblin, and it was ugly.
As she walked through the second door, Brie saw more goblins, who seemed to be working, unoblivious to Brie and Emmeline's arrival.
Brie didn't have wizard coins, so she asked, "Can't you use pounds here?" β
"Don't worry", Emmeline smiled: "Hogwarts has a support fund for the little wizards who are in need, although it is not much, but it is enough to buy a wand and some second-hand school supplies, of course, you can also exchange Muggle money for wizards' money, five pounds a gold Galleon." β
"One gold galleon is equivalent to 17 silver sico, and one silver west is equivalent to 29 copper nats, which is the wizard's money."
When Brie heard this, he breathed a sigh of relief in his heart, he was not used to using second-hand things, especially second-hand wizard school uniforms, which were close-fitting!
Brie was about to pull out all the money he had saved over the years from his pocket when Emmeline stopped him.
Emmeline said: "Betty is very interested in you, she left you a thousand pounds as a bursary, and I can't imagine how she can save this money for an old woman who has no pension and runs a welfare home." β
"Wizards don't take Muggle money in large denominations, which is not conducive to the development of the wizarding world, but Hogwarts and the Ministry of Magic have teamed up to facilitate young wizards from the Muggle world, so each young wizard can exchange 100 gold Galleons per year."
Emmeline walked up to the high platform and said gracefully to the goblin, "Please exchange it for 100 gold Galleons for me, and give me the child's support money." β
After receiving the Β£500 and Hogwarts letter from Emmeline, the elf looked displeased and proud, and after carefully comparing the list of people Hogwarts had given them this year, he reluctantly handed out two money bags, one large and one small.
The goblin said in a haughty tone: "'20 gold Galleons for the relief of poor households', and 100 gold Galleons for Muggle banknotes, yes, this is the money that has been temporarily handed over to you for safekeeping." β
After that, he stopped paying attention to Brie and Emmeline, and went about the rest of the work at hand, which could be seen to be the ledger, which was the elf's favorite thing.
In the eyes of the goblins, all the money is goblins, because the money is made by goblin magic, which is a difficult skill to imitate, and Muggles are robbers, not only let them guard the money, but also squander it wantonly, and even more excessively, it is a shame to let them exchange with Muggle paper money.
Of course, all this goblins will not say explicitly, after all, no goblin dares to touch the contract with the wizard at will.
Emmeline didn't care, put both bags of money in Brie's satchel, and pulled him out of the Gringotts door.
"Well, there's the robes shop over there, I'll come to you when I've bought the rest of the stuff, and then we'll go to the Ollivanders wand shop to buy wands."
Following Emmeline's guidance, Brie walked to a nice-looking shop, clean and bright, and there was a giant standing in the doorway, and Brie saw him at first sight, which was incredible.
Knowing that it was unfriendly to keep staring at others, Brie turned her head, but at that moment a little boy in the room with a very shaggy behavior and hair ran out.
"Oops!"
Brie's body looked thin, but it had a lot of strength, and the boy was almost hit by himself.
"Are you alright?" Brie took the boy's hand, and then he saw that the boy was wearing fat clothes, and there was a faint smell of rain drying, and the broken tape glasses on his face were also crooked from the collision...... Brie also saw a faint lightning scar on his forehead.
Harry Potter?
"No, it's fine." The boy looked a little socially afraid, he seemed to be blushing because Brie was wrinkling his nose and was far away from Brie, and the giant on the side seemed to be waiting for him.
"Let's go Harry, we'll have to go buy other things and wands, it's going to take a while."
"Oh yes, Hagrid."
Brie watched Harry Potter and the giant leave strangely, and muttered, "It's not like a star, why are so many people talking about him?" β
After shrugging his shoulders and walking into the long-distance running shop, Brie saw a thin boy with a pale face with a bright head on his head tormented by a floating cloth ruler, well... The light was his platinum blonde hair.
"Oh, why haven't you done it yet, really!"
It could be seen that the boy was already impatient, and when he saw Brie walk in, he hurriedly put away his attitude, and instead raised his head proudly, and slowly let the cloth ruler compare the dimensions of his body.
"Poof!"
Sorry, Brie smiled, the boy was like a peacock, he was only eleven or twelve years old, and he didn't know where he learned it.
"What are you laughing at!" Brie's laughter immediately caused the boy to be dissatisfied, and he stared at Brie viciously, and Brie was about to say something when he saw a short and fat witch dressed in purple, which should be Mrs. Morkin.
She smiled and walked over with a piece of fine fabric, looked at Brie and smiled, and then said to the boy, "Sorry, little Mr. Malfoy, your mother said that you need the best clothes, and you need some fine everyday clothes and gorgeous evening clothes, and because you are growing taller, you need to measure the size for a little longer." β
Mrs. Morkin silently took down the mischievous cloth ruler, placed the cloth in front of the boy, and said, "How about this cloth as a school uniform?" β
The boy's impatience increased, but he also maintained his arrogance: "Yes." β
Hearing this, Mrs. Makin exhaled, and it seemed that making clothes for the boy was not an easy task.
"Little Mr. Malfoy, I'll send the finished clothes to Malfoy Manor."
The boy raised an eyebrow and said softly, "Hmm." β
Lady Morkin then turned to Brie and said, "Are you going to buy a Hogwarts uniform, my dear?"
Brie nodded, "I need three sets of black plain overalls......"
"Oh, I see, I remember, hats, dragon skin gloves, cloaks, all with name tags, oh! I forgot to ask the boy just now, I hope he will come back! β
Looking at Lady Morkin's confused and worried look, Brie pursed her lips and chuckled, "My name is Brie Ode. β
Mrs. Morkin said, "Oh, of course, you can stand on the chair and measure the size first, but the school uniform will be over soon." β
"Excuse me, Lady Morkin."
"It's okay, what a well-behaved and polite child." With that, Mrs. Morkin threw the cloth ruler at Brie, and turned to enter the compartment with the cloth in her hand.
"There is ~ politeness? Hmph..."
An aria-like voice grabbed Brie's attention, and Brie caught a pale and angry face.
"Officially, polite Mr. Ode, I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy."
"I amβ" Brie was about to say something when she heard...
"Oh, needless to say, I know you are mud... Muggle wizards. β
Draco Malfoy swept Brie's clothes with his haughty eyes, finally locking onto Brie's face.
"Tsk, I don't know how many times I've washed my mud-smelling clothes, and my shabby and old-fashioned satchel is still in a high-sounding place..."
Brie was annoyed by Draco Malfoy's attitude, staring at him with an unkind expression, her pure black eyes filled with displeasure, and tiny red threads spread across Brie's eyes.
Malfoy's words came to an abrupt end, as if he had fallen into a silent world, standing alone on an isolated island, as if a storm was about to come, of course, only as he quickly came to his senses, but he couldn't help but be stunned by the ridicule in Brie's eyes.
"Draco!"
At this moment, an elegant and arrogant blonde woman walked in outside the door, she looked at Draco Malfoy's indecent posture and expression and said helplessly, "Your father is just outside the door, you should be glad that he didn't come in because he thought this was a place that women would like to stay." β
Draco Malfoy seemed to come to his senses, his pale face flushing red, extending behind his ears.
"Mom, you can't tell Dad, I've been waiting for you here for a long time, you should apologize!"
Seeing her son's obvious coquettish appearance, the woman fondly touched Draco Malfoy's little face, pulled him off the small chair, and then glanced at Brie lightly.
As if surprised to have a new student with an oriental face this year, she nodded slightly to Brie and pulled Draco Malfoy out of Madame Morkin's robes store.
Draco Malfoy, on the other hand, looked at Brie inquiringly, and Brie raised an eyebrow at him in his haughty manner, telling him to leave and turn away from Brie.
Brie wasn't an impulsive kid, but he didn't choose to suffer, and of course, at only 11 years old, he didn't have any bad intentions, just used some small tricks to scare Draco Malfoy.
"It seems that I still have something special, such as turning my eyes red and making others feel scared, hehe."
Brie thought about the two of them just now, pondered for a while, and said inexplicably when he thought of the books he had seen in the welfare house before: "They seem to be nobles in the last century, and there are nobles in the wizarding world?" β
"There are no nobles, no children, but there are pure-blood wizard families, and of course, not all pure-blood wizard families are as famous as the Malfoy family."
Mrs. Morkin took the ruler and said to Brie, "Okay boy, do you want to leave a mailing address, or do you have to pick it up yourself, because you need them when you are sorted, so you can't mail them directly to the school." β
"Well, can I come and get it in a few days, I think there should be an inn in Diagon Alley, so I can learn more about the wonders of the wizarding world."
