Chapter 5: The Resurrection
"Where am I?"
Everything turned black. A menu appears.
You're Dead.
"I'm dead...?" She muttered softly, confused and disappointed, and then her voice was quiet for a while, and she began to realize her situation. "Oh...... So...... I...... Am I dead? ”
She sighed. All right. She gets a great opportunity to come to this wonderful world, but now she has to face a cruel reality that she has been killed by monsters! Maybe she can go back to sleep now?
"Phew!"
The girl suddenly jumped to her feet. Her eyes were wide open, staring at the world in front of her, coughing, and cold water squirting from her lungs. She struggled to her feet from the fountain and fell panting to the grass below. Her body was weak and her legs trembled like a newborn fawn.
"Where—where am I?" She already knew the answer. She raised her eyes to face the. It stared at her from the other end of the clearing.
It walked slowly and carefully towards her, its body tensed, staring at the girl in front of it all the time.
She immediately turned around and shouted, "Ah...... No! Don't chase me! ”
The rooster shook off his feathers, kicked the dirt under his feet, and rushed at her. She struggled to jump and ran down the path. What's going on?! Why?!
"Leave me alone for a while!" The girl shouted, bypassing the familiar detour and crossing the three-way intersection. The rooster stopped again at the moment, as before, in the distance, glared at her with vicious eyes, and then turned and walked towards the clearing.
She leaned against a tree, panting, sweat dripping from her face and soaked clothes. She was supposed to be dead. But...... She's resurrected again? As she breathed in the evening air, she looked at her trembling hands and tried to clench her fists, but she still felt weak and uncomfortable. She followed the main road to the city where the sun had set. …… She was indeed reborn, back here in the fountain. But it seems that time has not been reset. She left in the morning, and now it looks like the sun is gone. That means she lost...... Time passed...... How many hours? It means a lot to her.
Is this the only price? How many hours? No, there's definitely more to hide. Maybe she lost something more precious. "Why? How did I die? She muttered to herself and headed for the city. The vision of the menu came back to her mind. 3 "HP", 3 health points. If she's not mistaken, the creature has 20 health. What does that mean? That's just one floor of a dungeon? This can be a pretty powerful dungeon.
No. The mushroom creature looked very weak. How could I lose? Her legs were still shaking with weakness.
Surely there is something wrong? Something must have gone wrong!
Of course, the idea did not surprise her in the slightest. But she did feel physical pain. Obviously, some things will never change. It doesn't matter what dimension you're in. She stood there, thinking, feeling a little lost for a moment. A voice vaguely appeared in her head.
"Wait!" She gasped, realizing it. Menu! Menu... She thought for a moment. If there is a menu in the battle, then she can surely activate it outside of the battle as well! That's how these things work, right? She thought for a moment. As if answering her own question, a small bell rang into her ears, and she looked in that direction and saw the glass panel appear. Sure enough! Maybe there's an explanation here.
Brief introduction:
Lin Meng
Health: 2/2
Soul:???
Level: 1
State:???
Race: Human
Strength: 01
World Intelligence: 02
Luck: 03
Dexterity: 02
Intelligence: 02
Love: 01
"Lin Meng?" She muttered to herself. Is this her new name? It's a very boring name. And what about the rest? These are certainly statistics, like in some kind of game, but ...... Without context, it was difficult for her to say whether the data was useful or not. Maybe it's more out of mental "muscle memory", but ...... Why is her health so poor? What is the "soul"?
She narrowed her eyes. Her health. Her max health has dropped by 1. She only has 2 points now. Her gaze scanned the menu. Something must have gone wrong. Something she was missing. When she has 3 health, the mushroom creature kills her with a single hit. Now less than before, what is she going to do?!
This is the price she pays. Death caused her to lose her maximum health, and possibly even some of her other stats. She didn't know, she hadn't seen it before. Lin Meng felt that her body was very weak, but it was probably just because she was reborn twice in one day.
She sighed and pulled the menu out, shivering when she realized that the temperature had become cold. The sun began to disappear behind the horizon, and the evening breeze began to turn into a cool breeze that blew through her thin shoulders and wet robes, chilling her body. Then, for the second time today, she passed through the giant gate and entered the city.
After nightfall, the city becomes less lively. The streets that used to be crowded with people are now bustling. However, she saw a new vision. Many of the glass windows of city houses reveal shiny, orange and yellow hues. Laughter and dull voices came along with the light.
"It's going to be night soon......" she muttered to herself, wondering what she was going to do next. The wind was getting stronger, seeping through the gates, blowing past her, and now it was colder. She struggled to restrain her trembling body, walked down the empty square, and walked alone down a dimly lit street. Why hadn't she thought it through before? She was determined to change herself, but she was blinded by her desires, so much so that she now seemed a little at a loss.
Continue. Or nothing has changed!
As she walked along the main road, laughter and noise rang out around her. She didn't know what else to do, so she kept going. Lin Meng had no money, and now that it was getting late, she felt her stomach rumble in protest against the feeling of being ignored all day. "I guess I still need to eat......" she muttered quietly.
The darkness grew faster and faster, and with it came a deeper cold, which was intense, because just a few hours earlier, the midday sun had been hot. Before reaching the second square, her body began to tremble violently and her teeth chattered. What to do? She looked around. There is still nowhere to go, nowhere to be found. She is not welcome anywhere, especially without money. Some new lives are turning out like this again.
"I miss my bed!" Her eyes were fixed on the dungeon, and she walked towards it again. Where else can I go? She'll freeze here. After hesitating for a moment, Lin Meng stepped towards the blue mist for the second time and let it envelop her; Not noticing the little figure watching her from the window in the distance.
At the moment, she was sitting at the top of the stairs, leaning against the wall, it was not warm under the flashlight, but it was not very cold either, as it was outside, and there was no wind here. What is that? Her eyes wandered down the stairs. Will the mushroom monster attack her? She hoped not this time. Maybe if she stays here, maybe it won't notice itself?
"Whatever," she thought, leaning her head against the wall. Even if she dies once, what does she have to lose?
