Chapter 19: A Hard Battle
When she looked down at the dismembered goblin, Lin Meng swallowed. Its black eyes stared blankly at her. Her frightened fingers gripped the dirt deeply.
"If you can't, tell me now! Because this isn't the last time you'll get your hands dirty. Jubilee pressed a finger on her forehead and said, "We can work together." But you still need to be strong enough to survive on your own, you know? There is no such thing as a free lunch, you have to rely on yourself! β
"I think I'm ......," Lin Meng was about to say.
Jubilee stopped her, then leaned forward, crossed his hands on his hips, and said, "If I hadn't forced you to do it here, would you have killed that monster?" β
As this question surfaced in her mind, Lin Meng's eyes slowly widened. Can she do it? She lifted her trembling hands from the dirt and looked down. A sticky smell of blood connected her to the corpse. Suppose her body is strong enough to kill it...... Can she do it? Her trembling fingers and sore throat immediately gave her an answer. The girl let out a breath and released the fear she had held back for too long.
"Why do you want to help me so much?" Lin Meng looked back at Jubilee and said, "I'm not very strong, I'm not very smart, and I feel like I'm useless......"
Xi Young brushed her forehead, and Lin Meng frowned and knocked his hand down.
"Because, you're an idiot." Jubilee looked to the side and muttered quietly. "Maybe I want to do something good this time!"
"Huh?" Lin Meng looked at the figure a little puzzled.
A small hand reached out to her. Looking at the hands that were also stained with blood. Lin Meng took a deep breath, put her fear behind her, and grabbed the wet hand that stretched out, her fingers tightly around it as she stood up. The blood in the palms of the two instantly fused.
"If you're involved, you can't quit!" Jubilee explained. "This is the dirty world we live in. None of us can escape it. Do you still dare? β
With a breath of air exhaled, Lin Meng seemed to have strengthened his determination: "I dare!" I won't back down no matter what! β
Jubilee nodded in satisfaction and let go of his hand. Lin Meng looked at the strange, twisted window.
Jubilee didn't seem to notice that he was rummaging through his pockets, taking out the key that the bartender had given him in the Adventurer's Guild and handing it to Lin Meng. "Here you go."
"Huh? Why? β
"Shut up and take it!" Jubilee said with a serious look in his eyes,
Lin Meng was a little nervous and confused, and quickly took the key from his wet hand. Jubilee sighed and turned to walk down the stairs. "Don't hold back this time."
[You are now the leader of the team]
Lin Meng's Squad:
Jubilee
[Team: 1] {Lead}
Lin Meng looked at the new pop-up screen curiously. Don't...... Didn't see this before the Jubilee? Should she mention it? Did Jubilee intend for her to be the captain of the squad? Why? When the pop-ups were all gone, she looked down at the keys in her bloody hands. Her fingers wrapped around the rough metal, and she closed her eyes after one last glance at the monstrous monster beside her.
"I must work hard!" She exhaled deeply again in her own words, and then finally made up her mind, Lin Meng was a little puzzled, if Jubilee made her the leader of the team, it meant that he already trusted her, right? Lin Meng didn't know what she had done and what she could trust. Even if she thinks that Jubilee is sometimes so terrible and cruel. He was still helping himself and still trusting her, even after her stupid mistakes. No one ever trusted her, at least not to that extent. Why? She is still basically a stranger to the masked Jubilee, and it is estimated that Jubilee thinks so for her. She bent down and grabbed the heavy bag from the bloody floor, and with great effort, lifted it back onto her aching shoulder, the weight of which instantly weighed on her.
"Whatever!" She gritted her teeth and took a step forward, making her way to the stairs. She will do whatever it takes. Her eyes narrowed. She could feel the strap of her bag digging into her shoulder, rubbing against the bare skin there. Is Jubilee Cruel? Yes. Is it that she herself is too naΓ―ve about the world? Maybe. Maybe it's a bit of both. In the end, though, she wasn't sure, but that's okay.
It's important to live in the moment.
She took another step forward, and when she took another step, the heavy bag seemed to tip her over. The boots crushed the damp rocks and crystal shards beneath her feet. She'll do it this time, no matter what it takes.
She pressed her hand against the wall and began to walk down the next staircase. She only has two levels left, and then she can learn. She also needs to learn more about the world. What kind of craft skills are even there? She didn't think she would be able to master alchemy, at least not too deeply. But maybe what's ...... Something more straightforward. Something more useful. Maybe some magic-making skills?
She tensed her body and took another heavy step carefully.
But does she have magic? Why didn't she find out? Jubilee is the one who fights using some kind of magic, so he knows for sure.
Lin Meng had now gone downstairs, the strap of the heavy bag digging into her bare shoulders, and she could feel the dampness under the fabric slowly strangling her with blood. The girl was exhausted and gasped. Sweat ran down her forehead. She patted herself on the cheek to cheer herself up, and strode forward again.
[New Layer: 5]
Lin Meng leaned against the wall. About ten minutes have passed since her heart-to-heart with Jubilee. Her bag was full, piled with mushroom hats, snail shells, and goblin teeth more than she had imagined. Goblins are becoming more and more common now, and after reaching the fifth layer, the large mushroom creatures on the top layer begin to slowly decrease.
Lin Meng gasped for air, sweat running down her face, stinging her eyes, she leaned against the wall, trembling all over, her legs trembling under her.
The girl slipped down the wall and fell to the floor, finally reaching her limit. She had hoped that this new upgrade would bring more power to her body, but that didn't seem to be the case. She sighed, realizing that her max health only increased by one point each time she leveled up. Is this normal? She doesn't think so. Jubilee has much better health than her, and Jubilee can unleash some kind of magic. Lin Meng wiped the sweat from her forehead, and accidentally bumped into a low-hanging flashlight, the flashlight flew off the wall, fell to the ground and rolled out, she was so frightened that she hurriedly retreated, screaming, and the fire almost burned her arm.
Lin Meng looked around nervously, hoping that Jubilee hadn't seen another mistake she had made recently. Why is she like this? In her old life, she had never been so clumsy and brainless. Is it because of her data? Perhaps it made sense, she took a deep breath in frustration, then bent down to pick up the bag, and continued on her way very slowly and hard, her legs shaking from exertion. But she won't give up.
Her steps were a little faster than before, but her tension was no less than the last time she came. Still, she smiled as she walked down the next stairs as sweat and dirt dripped down her lips.
[New Layer: 6]
A series of screams rang out in an instant.

"Huh?" Standing on the stairs, Lin Meng looked at the skill window.
But...... Well, that's obviously problematic. Lin Meng looked at the simple menu pop-up. It seems as if the mistake is twisted, as if it cracked at the seams. Without thinking, she just taps on it and tries to "fix it" in the same way she used to deal with a defective computer screen or TV in her past life.
"Ahh
A strange magic window popped up, and Lin Meng stood there, wondering what she had just done. Did she accidentally touch something strange? Soon, she looked over to Jubilee to see if he had noticed her again. Seemingly not, she breathed a sigh of relief and walked down the last few steps tremblingly.

Lin Meng's hand leaned against the wall and looked at her teammates: "Jubilee, I'm almost done." β
Standing among the five headless goblins, the small figure in a circle spoke. "What level are you at?"
"Level 4!" Lin Meng said a little complacently.
"Then stick to it, stupid!" Jubilee rolled her eyes and replied, "I don't want to go back here twice, just because you need to take a break!" Also, there is a boss room in front. We need to challenge it! β
"Okay, but I can't bring anything!" Lin Meng explained, her head tilted forward, her legs bent under the weight of the bag, and she fell again on the last step of the stone staircase.
"Huh? What is this attitude? Jubilee asked. I'm the one who does all the work here. Jubilee snapped his thumb and shook off the handful of dirt he was holding. Five tiny crystal shards shot out from the bloody ground, and the five severed goblin heads flew towards Lin Meng. When they landed at her feet, the jet-black bead eyes were almost watching her.
"Ahhh With her head falling in front of her, Lin Meng, who was screaming loudly, crawled backwards, climbed the stairs, and hid behind her backpack.
"See? You're still strong, crying baby! Get your teeth out, they're worth 1 Orr each," Jubilee roared as she walked down the stairs.
"Okay......" Lin Meng gradually eased up, and when she looked at those hideous faces, she tried not to cry. It's just that once the Jubilee is gone, she will still sobble quietly for a while. Before embarking on the horrific work in front of her, she had been apologizing to the dead goblins for the fact that she could only use her hands and a small stone nearby to brutally remove their teeth from the skull. Although she was trembling, her hands seemed to become fairly steady the moment she started working. These goblins are different from the ones above. They are larger, and their skin color is green with a bluish tinge. That's why each of them is worth three XP?
Found: [Goblin Tooth (Small)]! x20
It was quite creepy, but as she worked, Lin Meng was surprised to find that these goblins didn't have a single bad tooth in their mouths.
"There must be a great dentist in the dungeon!" She tried to think of something funny as much as she could, trying to lighten the mood. Lin Meng put the teeth in her bag, glad that they were not much bigger than human teeth, and they were not heavy at all.
Looking at them, she thought for a moment. Goblin teeth are much more efficient at collecting than mushroom caps. Mushroom hats are bulky and big, and they're not worth much. Even a goblin is a good benefit if you get all your teeth straight, and you can keep them in your pocket as much as you want, as they weigh almost nothing.

When Lin Meng stood up again, she tried her best to stay awake, and she only needed to upgrade one more time, and she could choose a professional skill. She stood on tiptoe and raised her arms and stretched her lower back. She stretches her body up to the tip of her toes to test her newfound flexibility.
"Ahh Something poked at her back, and she bent forward and reached out to grab her body underneath the heavy bag. She stood there like an old witch, hunched over in a strange position.
"Woo......" Lin Meng rubbed her sore spot and whispered to herself, not knowing what she was muttering, because there were too many things in her backpack now. The girl straightened up and tugged at the strap of the heavy bag, wrapping it around her bare shoulders. The skin there had turned red, and some places were worn out, Lin Meng gritted his teeth, and finally roared, using all his strength, picked up the backpack, walked through the room, and walked down the next stairs.
Lin Meng's leg was sprained, her shoulder hurt badly, she was tired, and she didn't want to take any more steps when she was tired. She was hungry, a little dazzled by hunger, but she gritted her teeth and walked underneath. In return for her efforts, three new goblin heads lay there, neatly arranged like artefacts, looking up at her, waiting for her, as if to welcome her to this new place. The girl felt her lips tremble again.
[New Layer: 7]
"Hey! Why don't you come over quickly? A voice came from afar, descending the stairs.
"I'm coming, I'm going to pull out these teeth first!" She said hurriedly.
"I'm done!" Jubilee said. "Come here! I'm waiting for you. β
"Huh......?" Lin Meng looked down at the goblin's head. They all have missing canine teeth. She owes the Jubilee again. The design of the dungeon room is slowly changing, with compacted dirt and tree roots on top of it, making up the room, and as the two of them go down, the less they exist. On the contrary, the brickwork laid in ancient times, the further you advance, the denser and more coherent it becomes. The dungeon became less of a cave and more like a real dungeon, and the brick floor on the ground slowly grew larger, and finally she reached another staircase.
Jubilee stood there, near the edge of the staircase, leading to a small platform and a large wooden door decorated with ornate and terrible decorations.
[New Layer: 8] {Boss Room}
"It's a boss room!" Jubilee saw her confused expression and explained, "There is one after each sub-section of the dungeon. β
"Subsections?" Lin Meng asked, she wanted to do it now but didn't dare to sit down again, for fear that she wouldn't be able to get up this time.
"Yes, these levels are just 'beginners' first dungeon adventure', once we kill the boss, you have a shortcut in the dungeon, you can skip those layers if you want and come here directly next time. You yourself definitely don't want to come here because ......"
"Because I'm going to die!" Lin Meng interrupted him, she was very self-aware.
She was now carrying a heavy bag with what's inside. What it stands for. These items are good value for money. What else can she do after getting the money but pay off her debts? She didn't know. But she knew the work in front of her, the way forward, though she could not describe her exact reasoning. But she pulled herself together anyway, grabbed the shoulder straps, lifted the bag higher, and did her best to stand up straight with the heavy burden on her back. She needs this. They need this. If she can't fight, if she can't heal or do something like that. That's all she can do. Firm determination and an amazing energy from an inexplicable source surged out of her emaciated body.
"Let's all do our best!" Lin Meng clenched his fists and shouted.
Jubilee stared at her, a little surprised: "... What? β
Lin Meng smiled meekly, shrank back, and touched her flushed cheeks, feeling a little embarrassed. She couldn't quite explain the reason for her outburst in coherent language. Jubilee awkwardly rubbed the back of his hooded head, turned to push the door, at which point Jubilee turned to look at her and her trembling legs, then turned forward and pushed the door open without saying a word.
They were half-opened in a heavy squeak, and a bright light shot out from behind them, which really made Lin Meng stunned for a moment. As she stepped forward, she raised her hands over her eyes and walked towards the Jubilee. The seemingly passive light gradually faded away, as if its only purpose was to set them in and out of the boss's room.
Reopening his eyes, Lin Meng's eyes looked at the fusion that had taken place here with some surprise. From the top down, the roots of the tree, which seem to grow in all directions, are also below, more lush than ever. Not just on the walls, the thick roots stretch across the entire dungeon floor. They knot and curl in all directions until they disappear into the walls, and rough trees fill the space.
In the center of the room, a large upside-down tree grows from the ceiling, without a single leaf on it. It's like a tree in a desolate winter. But there are many rhizomes and flowers, all hanging high and out of reach.
"Stay here. Don't touch anything," the Jubilee warned: "You are ...... now Level four? β
"I'm level five!"
Lin Meng looked a little indignant and proudly corrected, Jubilee rolled his eyes and walked into the boss room. The roots of the trees move, pulling themselves with strange force, as if they were the giant tentacles of some kind of sleeping creature. The hard plants crackle and hiss, the old, hardened bark peels and cracks, and everything starts moving. The massive roots extend downward, opening a new path forward, revealing two particularly large mushroom monsters with bright blue caps.

With a snap of his fingers in Jubilee, a crystal spike shoots out of the ground, stringing both monsters on the same pillar at the same time. Lin Meng rubbed her arm and smiled nervously at the massacre. She was really escorted here, and Jubilee was obviously still too advanced for this layer. In fact, what exactly is the level of the Jubilee? What level does his dungeon go down to? When she gets the chance, she'll be sure to ask him that question. Maybe she can figure out if he's a boy or a girl too?
The roots of the tree moved, and the two Guardians, killed in an instant, revealed another small group of monsters behind them, consisting of a group of blue goblins. Lin Meng didn't want to look at this new massacre anymore, she turned her head, looked down to the side, and stared at the beautiful flowers.
"Oh!" She bent down, trying to keep her balance, looking at some of the flowers growing in the dirt. "You're very beautiful!" She said to the flowers.
There was a terrible scream from the side.
[You gain experience for {27/35}!] (Team)
Lin Meng did her best to just stare at the flowers. They are pink in color and have long, downward-growing petals. The screaming continued. Lin Meng stared at the small golden protrusions sticking out from the head of the flower bud between the petals. She tilted her head and looked at them. Reminds her of something.
Something screamed in the distance, but it soon fell silent.
[You gain experience for {30/35}!] (Team)
She scratched her head, wondering what the hell they reminded her of.
Something gurgled and made a loud splash.
"Ahh You're the same eye color as Jubilee! Lin Meng now realizes what the similarities are. Wouldn't it be strange if she gave Jubilee a flower? Not as a romantic gift, but for friendliness? Just to give something back. Say thank you? Isn't it a little weird?
The screaming on one side continued.
[You've gained experience for {33/35}!] (Team)
Do people here send flowers to their friends? Is there such a custom here? In her old world, it wasn't surprising. "Hmm......" she tilted her head. Maybe that's not a good idea. She is now the leader of the squad, and she must be reliable.
But...... What if the act of sending flowers makes her look even more silly? She only had one friend and she wanted to do something for him. Lin Meng's gaze narrowed firmly, and he looked back at the flower. She will try her best to do everything well, not only at work, but also in relationships. Nodding to himself, satisfied with his spiritual encouragement, he grabbed a pink flower and pulled it apart.
"I'm going to borrow it from you, Miss Petal, okay?" She asked with a big smile.
