Chapter 21: Becoming a Witch?
Four doors line the corridor on the right, all closed. The thick dust covering the armrests of most doors indicates that they have not been opened in a long time. Lin Meng looked at the empty state here, and a feeling of excitement surged into his heart.
"Here it is! You can put the bag here! Jubilee said as he opened the last door at the end of the hallway. Lin Meng's footsteps stepped into the room, looking at the dim space, and he had a strong sense of familiarity. The only window was obscured by the kind of unsightly curtains that were elsewhere drawn, pulled as tightly as possible. The furnishings are simple but untidy. An unmade bed was made in the center of the room, and the sheets had apparently not been changed for weeks or even months. The floor was full of dust and old rubbish. Lin Meng placed her backpack on a pile of old brown paper. It's not as good as the room she had before she was reborn.
Jubilee dragged down a bunch of green clothes and fabrics from the chair at the door and threw them from the chair onto the bed: "Come, sit." Be careful, the legs are a little shaky. ”
"Thank you," Lin Meng replied, dragging her wobbly legs and sitting on an uncomfortable wooden chair. But for her body, it was a gift from heaven. The girl immediately relaxed, her body slid off the back of the chair, her legs stretched forward, and she exhaled, and all the heavy pressure and tension disappeared at once. "What a day!" She muttered a little dreamily.
"What a day!" Jubilee repeats with a little irony.
"Thank you for helping me," Lin Meng leaned back with his eyes still closed. Her arms hung down from the sides of the chair. There was a moment of silence in the room.
"yes!" Jubilee replied rather dryly.
"So, this is your place?" She tried to make small talk with Jubilee.
"yes!" Jubilee replied but still not much enthusiasm.
"That's good!" Lin Meng said.
There was silence for a moment.
"yes." Lin Meng felt that the air was becoming more and more awkward, and heard Jubilee's answer.
"Hmm!"
"Hmm..."
The room was still quiet. The girl opened her eyes and looked at Jubilee standing on the other side of the room, her arms crossed against the wall, as if thinking. Her thoughts were interrupted by a yawn escaping from her mouth, mixed with an audible roar in her stomach. Jubilee looked away from the ceiling and looked back at her. Lin Meng smiled meekly, she hadn't eaten anything since she wasted that bread. But she won't ask for anything more from Jubilee.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have lost my temper with you in the guild!" Jubilee looked back at the ceiling and said.
Lin Meng tilted her head and sat up straight, one finger lazily scratching her cheek. "It's okay, I'm an idiot."
"Yes! At least you were before. ”
Lin Meng let out a self-deprecating laugh: "I want to change too!" ”
"Hopefully!" Jubilee sighed: "Do you want to eat something?" ”
"Ah, no! I-"
Jubilee interrupted her, raised a hand and said, "You did something too!" ”
Lin Meng glanced back at him, a little lost. Seeing her blank expression, Jubilee explained, "We have forty-four goblin teeth. Five orange hats and two blue hats. A boss core. Oh, and these ......" Jubilee's gloved hand dug through his backpack and pulled out a bouquet of rhizome flowers that Lin Meng had completely forgotten to pick from the boss room: "That old woman usually only gives 1 Orr to a newcomer like you, but I know her rules, she may give us 2 Orr," Jubilee explained, "plus other things, that means we have about 97 Orr in total." ”
Lin Meng jumped up, leaned back against the wall, and opened his eyes wide in disbelief: "Ninety-seven?!" ”
Jubilee shrugged as if it wasn't something to be excited about: "Yes, half of it is yours." But if you're using something to make it, then obviously it costs a lot! But you can't keep the orange hat. We need to sell five, otherwise they won't accept it. ”
Lin Meng nodded excitedly: "That's okay, what about the guild?" ”
"Don't talk about this here!" Jubilee yelled at her.
"Huh?" Lin Meng was a little confused and looked around the dark room.
Jubilee leaned forward and said with a little vigilance in his eyes: "This house has not been cut off!" Jubilee said, pointing to the room. It's also in the guild space, and if they're not with you, no one can hear you. But if it's someone who cares, it's easy for them to hear us! ”
"Oh, I'm sorry, I don't know!" Lin Meng understands now. Her mind drifted back to another topic. If she had money right now, then maybe it would be a good idea to enjoy a good meal. She smiled and looked at Jubilee and said, "Would you like to eat something with me?" ”
"Huh?"
"Would you like to go get something together?" She leaned forward, fists clenched at her sides, and asked with a smile on her face.
Jubilee tilted his head to look at her. "Nope."
"Oh......" Lin Meng was a little disappointed. She rubbed her arm and looked away.
"If you're hungry, I've got something you can eat here! You shouldn't run around with only 1 health left! He walked past her, went out the door, and waved lazily, "Stay here." ”
He disappeared into the hallway, walking towards the first door next to the stairs. Lin Meng's eyes looked around the room and sighed, it really evoked a familiar feeling for her. She looked down at her pale hands, trembling with weakness. It's hard for her to explain to herself, but she's been trying to be another person, a better person, from the beginning, so much so that she completely suppresses her natural weak part. In these days, she has completely forgotten who she has been for so many years, the person who has forgotten for so many years. But coming here, in this dark room, it's as if you've returned to that old and familiar feeling. This made her realize that the sadness and melancholy that had suppressed her for so many years. It has been a part of itself for a long time, and it still is.
Isn't that weird? She wasn't sure.
She looked around the room, as if trying to find the contents of the room in an attempt to further interpret the Jubilee. The curtains were blown by some vague air currents, and a faint ray of sunlight managed to break through the darkness and seep through the thin walls. The sparse light shone on the broken mirror embedded in the back corner of the room. The darkness was littered with jagged crystal shards, covered in a thick layer of dust that almost completely absorbed the light, as if to suffocate. The curtains fell back and the darkness returned.
Jubilee returned inside with a small tray. Lin Meng looked at the small pink flower on his belt, blinked, and his thoughts returned to reality. Even if that feeling of sadness has been present in her for a long time, she will get rid of it. In a sense, it feels like cutting off a part of your own body.
"Here you go!" Jubilee said, holding the tray in front of Lin Meng.
"Thank you!" She smiled in response. On a small wooden plate lay a few slices of old bread, some cured meats, and a series of colorful, but well-preserved fruits that she didn't recognize. She looked at it and suddenly remembered something.
"Don't you eat anything?" Lin Meng asked curiously.
"Nope. I'm not hungry! With that, he walked away and went back to where he was. A loud bang broke the silence. Lin Meng lowered her head in embarrassment, but realized after a second that it wasn't her style. Jubilee cleared her throat and stood on the other side of the room again. Lin Meng looked at him a little lost and stretched out the tray towards him. But with a wave of his hand, he said no. She wondered why Jubilee didn't want to eat, but she didn't know what to do for a while.
"Eat before you die. I'll have something to eat later! Jubilee said.
Lin Meng narrowed her eyes and thought that if they were friends now, and as the leader of the team, she had an obligation to make sure her team members were taken care of!
Her gaze swept over the unmade bed in the center of the room, then she looked down at the tray in her hand and thought.
"Ahh A thought flashed through my head. Lin Meng put down the tray and silently thanked him for this flash of inspiration.
"What are you doing?"
Lin Meng didn't answer, she took out half of the food from the plate and put it on the tray. Stand up, pick up both, and place the tray next to Jubilee.
"I told you I didn't want to ......"
"One and a half! I'm the captain! Gotta listen to me! Lin Meng smiled and raised a finger into the air and said.
"Huh?" Jubilee was somewhat speechless.
Lin Meng picked up his plate, walked around the bed, and sat on the floor opposite the bed, leaning his back against it. Her fingers waved in the air behind her head and said, "Listen to me!" ”
The room was quiet.
Lin Meng looked at the food with hungry eyes and picked up a piece of bread from the plate. It was a little dry and a little old, but she didn't start eating. The girl carefully kicked away a mirror shard with her boot.
A tiny body goes to the other side of the mattress and sits on the floor on the other side of the bed, with its back to it. Jubilee didn't want her to see his face, he didn't want to take off his mask, even though he was hungry.
Lin Meng happily took a bite of the bread, and said while savoring it: "Let's work hard tomorrow, Jubilee!" ”
"Can you shut up and eat?" Jubilee also gobbled up and said, "We'll start training tomorrow!" ”
At night, Lin Meng tossed on a pile of blankets on the floor and tried to fall asleep. Jubilee said that she could stay in another room, but he did not mention that the room was completely empty and unfurnished. Lin Meng grabbed a blanket she had spread on it, wrapped it tightly around herself, and shrunk into a ball tremblingly.
It's so cold in here.
The walls tried to keep the wind from blowing in from the outside, but it didn't seem to do much. Soon, however, her tired body could no longer support it and fell into a deep sleep. Her mind drifted to a dark place, her self-consciousness seemed to be lost in nothingness, and Lin Meng couldn't help but notice that her soft body was shaking, as if it was sinking downward, as if being pulled deep underground.
Everything went dark.
As she floated in the empty void, a strange yawn rang in her ears.
"Did you have a good trip?" A voice from the Spirit of the Fountain asked.
Now Lin Meng found herself in the sea of black water, but she was not afraid, because she heard a familiar voice, just like before, she didn't pay attention to it, thinking that it was just a strange dream.
"It's harder than I thought!" She sighed and replied, "But I made a friend!" ”
The voice cleared its throat as if it had just woken up from a long nap: "Good for you!" If everything is easy, then you will just get bored and end up like before! The soul needs to fight, or it will wither. ”
"You can at least make me smarter. I feel like my head is like a bag of paste! Lin Meng crossed his arms and protested: "It almost killed me four times." ”
"I think you're smart enough! Aren't you still dead! The Spirit of the Fountain quipped. A strange force surged forward, carrying her disembodied body through the darkness.
"But what if I did die? Or what if I am sold into slavery because I owe money?! Lin Meng was obviously frustrated.
Her soul wandered around, the power of electricity taking her deeper and darker, seemingly with no specific purpose, the fountain spirit seemed to just want to talk to her as she went.
"Then you've learned your lesson!" The voice replied indifferently.
"It's cruel to say that!" The girl protested, remembering all the terrible scenes that Jubilee had described to her.
The voice yawned sleepily again, and continued, "This will be a dark lesson. ”
Lin Meng obviously felt that this answer was not satisfactory.
"Our agreement is for me to give you a chance to earn happiness and money!" It explains: "From then on, it's your own business, and any bad outcome is your own fault." You chose to go left! ”
The water was quiet for a moment. Lin Meng looked around and looked at the ever-changing darkness.
"Of course! Remember when you ran away from the chicks? ”
"yes!" Lin Meng replied, but it was strange that the spirit of the fountain knew about it.
The Fountain Spirit voice continued: "What about the other way? ”
"Huh?" The girl asked, puzzled.
"The other way! You could have walked straight at the intersection, you know? That would certainly be a fun life, or you could go back and fight the chickens. Trust me, that's going to be a good choice too! But you chose to go left. ”
"Does it really matter? Why can't you go to the left......" Lin Meng thought for a while and asked.
"You don't know why?"
"Yes,...... Go left. Why?" replied the girl thoughtfully.
"Give me a coin!" The voice asked suddenly.
"No!" Lin Meng said as she reached out and held her pocket tightly.
The soul sounded a somewhat harsh response: "Well, see what I can teach you." Maybe you can become a manufacturer. I don't care what you become! ”
"What can you teach me?" The girl asked suspiciously.
The soul sounded angry and said, "Do you want to learn?" This is a new attempt at life, do you want to give up halfway, hoping that things will change on their own? ”
Lin Meng was a little irritable. Her non-existent fingers fumbled for equally vague coins in her pocket.
The soul yawned, this time longer and louder than before, as if trying to illustrate the matter. "If it weren't for me, would you leave? Or you'll end up depressed in your life! ”
Lin Meng replied with some anger: "But I want to choose my own path." ”
"Have you chosen your new body?" The soul asked.
"No......" the girl muttered to herself.
"Do you like it?"
"I think so......" Lin Meng looked away and said.
"See? I have excellent taste! Give me a coin, or let me go back to sleep and figure it out for myself. Time is money. ”
Lin Meng hesitated.
The water began to churn and her body began to move away from her soul.
"Okay, okay, you teach me!" Lin Meng finally compromised.
"You say!" Lin Meng shouted, throwing the coin into the darkness with all his might. The metal disc spun in front of her and flew away, not as far as she had hoped. Slowly sink into the black water and disappear into the gloomy depths below. However, the current was still churning, as strong as ever, and her sense of self was still constantly spinning. It also began to take her away, and as the darkness in front of her began to fade and brighten, some light source appeared in the void. Sunlight shone through the corrugated surface above her head.
"Look! Simple! I've already registered you! ”
"Ah, wait! Why am I cursed? ”
The water rushed around her, pushing her far and farther, as if the spirit had driven her away so that she could finally fall back to sleep.
"Because you went to the left!" The voice faded away and finally responded. It sounds far, far away, disappearing into the murky darkness.
Lin Meng didn't have time to respond to unsatisfactory answers, her body hovered, and the water brought her back to reality. As her consciousness regained on the wooden floor of the Jubilee home, the coins in her pocket made a soft click.
The girl opened her eyes, but the only sound that greeted her was the thud of a menu pop-up window, and the sound of people walking outside the building, and early morning had arrived.
Lin Meng rubbed her eyes, staring at the dull morning sun, shining through the dusty window of the small room, looking at the menu pop-up window floating in front of her.

"Huh?" Lin Meng stared at the pop-up window, then turned her gaze back to the soaked book and the black-handled dagger at her feet. The next second, she jumped up and ran out of the room, afraid that she had done something stupid again.
"Jubilee! Woowoo woo ......"
"What did you do?"
Lin Meng grabbed her wet hair and cried. "I had a dream about being underwater, and I paid to learn a profession because I went to the left!" The girl cried incoherently at the masked man standing in the doorway. A hastily gloved hand fiddles with the mask so that it can be adjusted firmly.
Jubilee looked up at her: "What...?" ”
Lin Meng fell to his knees with trembling legs, and grabbed his shoulders with both hands. "I'm sorry! Don't be mad at me! ”
“…… What the hell is going on? He exhaled again, tilting his head and repeating, his voice emotionally lost and confused. Jubilee blinked, his gaze moved down, and he looked down at the wet place on Lin Meng's robe. "Look. If you wet the bed, you have to admit it! ”
"I didn't! See! Lin Meng opened her menu pop-up, and Jubilee stared at it for a while, then looked back at her, and then looked at it again.
"I thought you wanted a manufacturing career?" He asked her a little confused and annoyed, "Did you really sneak out in the middle of the night to study?" ”
They stared at the window again and said, "Fucking witch?!" Jubilee's voice was a little trembling and confused. After a second, he fell silent, looking her up and down warily. "Where the hell have you been......?! How do you ......" they narrowed their eyes, realizing something. "It's a small world!"
"It's in the water!" Lin Meng covered her crying face and looked at Jubilee who was stepping back and walking away from her. "That's something in the water!" Lin Meng said as he put his hands on Jubilee's shoulders again, shaking his small body and pulling him closer to him. "Please don't be angry!" The girl cried, and she looked at Jubilee's deep, suspicious eyes and hand, which was moving towards the mud bag on his belt.
Jubilee took a sharp breath and pushed her hand away from herself. "Don't think about it! You just had a dream! ”
"I did it! It's true! Lin Meng looked at him and said seriously.
"In that dream, there was something 'something' that made you choose a career, and you ...... Paid a coin? In a dream? Jubilee asked.
