Chapter Twenty-Nine: Facing Alone
The crystal blade sliced through the long, bug-covered neck, slicing it in half.
Lin Meng looked back at the terrible, mutilated monster lying at her feet in horror, and couldn't stand up anymore.
"Fuck shit!" Jubilee said angrily.
Jubilee looked at the thing, looked at her again, ran to her, grabbed her hand and made her stand up. "Come on! We're leaving! ”
Lin Meng got up and let Jubilee drag him down the stairs. Her mind was spinning. Is it a nightmare? This is...... Some kind of creature in the dungeon? A monster from some dark abyss who chose her tonight?
They burst out of the store and slammed the door behind them. The storm was raging, the night air was heavy and damp, and the familiar thunder whistled through the darkness. The empty streets were lit up by lightning from the sky.
"Jubilee~" Lin Meng shouted, wanting to ask what happened. Why are they running? Isn't the monster dead? Jubilee has cut off its head. Jubilee didn't say anything, they ran in the rain, down the main road, in the direction of the Adventurer's Guild. Just as they were leaving the house, Lin Meng turned her head, and she couldn't help but notice the outline of a face pressed against her bedroom window.
"Do you have the key?!"
"Nope! In my bag! Lin Meng tried to say loudly in the heavy rain.
Jubilee opened the door to the Adventurer's Guild, and the two of them walked in and quickly closed the door behind them.
Lin Meng looked around, in the dead of night, the tavern was empty, except for the haunting voice, which sang as always, and the voice sounded, as if lamenting the storm outside. Water dripped down Lin Meng's soaked body, forming a puddle of water where she stood, her body still clinging to the door.
Jubilee ran to the counter, as if hearing his arrival, and the elf woman, as usual, came out of the kitchen behind the bar, looked at her curiously, and then turned her attention to Jubilee, gesturing her finger at the number two, pointing her fingertip at their neck.
The bartender looked at them, then walked up to Lin Meng curiously, then nodded, thought for a while, and then took out a key from under the counter. Jubilee nodded, waved his hand, and motioned for Lin Meng to follow him into the partitioned space in the inner room of the Adventurer's Guild.
The two of them walked through the clouds in the doorway and entered the room. Jubilee slammed the door behind him, and sat down on the floor. The rain had soaked through their clothes and was dripping downwards.
Lin Meng stared at him, with a strange sense of déjà vu, she looked at the little body leaning against the door: "Jubilee!" ”
Jubilee slammed his fist on the door, his wet leather gloves slamming into the wood. "That old! Prostitute! Child! Jubilee looked back at her. I didn't expect Donata to be so bold! it! "Jubilee kicked the door with the soles of his boots. The wood rattled. He looked back at Lin Meng. He grabbed her arm and pulled her wet sleeve up, "Did it catch you?!" ”
"Nope! No, I'm fine! Lin Meng hoped that her trembling legs would not expose her lies: "Jubilee, what is that?" That monster! ”
"That's a vampire!" Jubilee looked up at her with angry eyes and explained, "This is that old witch's trick!" He clenched his gloves and squeaked.
"Huh?" Ask Lin Meng.
Jubilee walked past her, walked to the table in the center of the room, and shook the water off his body with open arms: "Congratulations. You just survived your first assassination. Lin Meng looked at the Jubilee. Bloodsucker? Assassinate? Jubilee pulled out a chair and sat on it: "I thought she was mad because we pried away her customers!" But it's clear she's aimed at you! ”
Lin Meng's eyes widened. Does Jubilee know about her encounter with Donata? "When...?" Jubilee looked at her.
"I see it." He approving, "You're doing a great job." You don't know it's been a long time since I wanted to see someone beat her! ”
Lin Meng asked with some confusion: "You have been following me?!" ”
"Of course not, stupid! It's like I have nothing to do all day! Jubilee crossed his arms and looked away.
The two were silent for a moment.
He breathed a sigh of relief: "...... I want to join you in celebrating our first day of work! He explained. But when I turned the corner, all I saw was that you had beaten the lame old woman so badly, well done! He looked up at the ceiling: "Don't be burdened in your heart, and don't be afraid, some people just need to clean up!" ”
Water dripped from her body and soaking wet robes. Its fabric clings to her clammy skin: "I'm sorry I didn't tell you!" She rubbed her arm and said, "I thought I messed up, I don't want you to be angry." ”
Jubilee shook his head. "Nope. If you don't stop her from looking at your menu pop-up, then ......" he looked at her: "We're going to have to take a more efficient approach!" ”
"Huh......?" Lin Meng asked, a little surprised. "You don't mean ......"
Jubilee slammed his fist on the table and pointed at her with the other: "She really sent a vampire to kill you while you slept!" How many times are I going to tell you what the rules of this game are that we are playing?! ”
"Aren't we safe? Why would she do it? Guild won't ......? ”
Jubilee shrugged: "Donata's background is a bit complicated. She is not afraid of the Chamber of Commerce. He glanced back at her: "The bar owner will notify the church, and they will take care of it within an hour!" Jubilee said. Exorcists have a great work ethic! Vampires are not allowed in the city, and the Merchants' Guild will soon find out! ”
Lin Meng walked over and sat on another chair: "No...... Dead? You cut off its head. ”
"It's dead before you open the door. By the way, you shouldn't do that. ”
"Huh?" asked Lin Meng again.
"Only if you let the vampires in, they can come in!" Jubilee waved her away: "But I guess I can't expect you to know that." Damn it...... It may come into the store as it is now an 'open' space. He said, staring at the ceiling. But your room is a personal space. Vampires need permission to cross borders. ”
The two sat in silence, and Lin Meng thought for a while. Bloodsucker? Apparently she remembered hearing this in her past life, but those memories about them were even more ...... Gorgeous and mysterious.
"What now?" She asked about the Jubilee.
He looked back at her, "We're safe here. Well, it only wants you. She may have given it some of your hair and it followed the scent. They are very purposeful creatures and must be given a guide! He crossed his arms behind his head and sighed, "There are still five hours before sunrise, and now we will stay here, and the church and the merchants' guild will do their part." ”
"We should ...... Should they be told? Did Donata do it? ”
"Do you have proof?" Jubilee asked.
Lin Meng's gaze looked away: "No..."
"Neither do we!" He shrugged his shoulders and said, "But, I'm not worried about this. These things ......" He was a little restless, which made Lin Meng a little nervous.
Lin Meng asked again: "Is it dead?" ”
"Nope. Probably smelled danger a second ago, climbed up the beam and ran away. I hate vampires. Disgusting long-necked monster! The church will take care of it. They hate them too. Honestly, they hate everything, but in this case, we can only count on the church! ”
Lin Meng looked up to the Jubilee. “…… Will they come to your house to see it? ”
"What?" Jubilee asked.
"Church, will they come to your house?"
"Uh...... Maybe? I do not know. It was supposed to be nearby, but the church knew what they wanted to snoop on while figuring out where it came from. ”
The girl rubbed her arm: "My grimoire is still there." ”
Jubilee leaned forward with the legs of his chair and asked, "What's you...?" ”
"My Book...... It looks like a normal book, but if any of them open it to read......" she rubbed her arm. "You'll know I'm a witch."
"!" Jubilee stared at her and shouted indignantly, "! Then he jumped up and ran to the door, pointing his finger at her: "Don't leave this room until the sun shines through that window, or until I come to pick you up!" After saying that, he rushed out of the door, leaving Lin Meng alone in the huge empty room.
The Jubilee did not return.
The sun had risen, and although most of it was covered by thick clouds, it was still hovering and flowing overhead, and Lin Meng didn't know what else to do, whether to leave the Adventurer's Guild and go to the store. After all, they have to open the door today.
If vampires can only haunt at night, then now is no need to be afraid.
She was already extremely sleepy after not closing her eyes all night, but Lin Meng forced herself to pull herself together, and when the sun rose higher in the sky, every ray of light could reach her tired body, she couldn't help but feel more awake. Her dry eyes stare at the street, at the crowd that was slowly starting to get busy for the start of the day, but there was no sign of scuffle. She looked up at the store. Nothing seems to have happened here. Doors and windows are good. Everything was fine.
Lin Meng opened the door and looked inside, and found that the space looked as if nothing had happened. "Jubilee?" She shouted nervously.
No one responded. Lin Meng carefully went upstairs to check, except for some broken glass at the door of her bedroom, there was nothing unusual here. The girl stared in her room.
Her bag was gone, her book and dagger were missing. Is the church coming? Chamber of commerce? Did they confiscate? Did something happen to the Jubilee? The vampire just wants her, right?
Lin Meng's brain was a little insufficient.
There was a knock on the door.
She jumped up screaming and ran downstairs as fast as she could, looking at the front door. A couple of alchemists were outside the door.
It's time to set up shop. What should she do? If Jubilee is missing, then she can't sit idly by and do nothing, but at the same time......
No. Her friends counted on her, no matter where he was. Lin Meng narrowed his eyes and grabbed the handle of the front door. Even if she is alone, she must hold the fortress. "Good morning! Welcome! ”
She let the hordes of magicians in, they greeted her, and they all walked to the shelves of soul potions that had just been replenished, Lin Meng retreated behind the counter, her feet pounding nervously on the floor. If she had felt exhausted before, those feelings had been replaced by a new panic.
"These are the kinds of potions!" A wizard said, pointing to the bottle.
"Huh? They really shine! I love these bottles! They said as they ran their fingers over the frosted crystal surface of the potion.
More people are starting to enter the store. Not as much as yesterday, but still a lot, starting to move around. Some people scattered to look at the daggers or look at those crystal chickens, others stared at the potions.
The first person walked to the counter, and the tired girl in the back began to count the potions they had chosen. "Give Fifty-Seven Orr, please." Thankfully, Jubilee left a bunch of regular coins in the jar below for change.

Just as a newcomer approached with a dagger, they turned and walked away.
"See? I told you there was no haunting here! A voice came from the back of the store.
"That's because it's daytime, stupid. Besides, that was a few years ago! The other replied.
The voice behind him rang out again. "Nope! Jade says he heard it again last night! ”
With a whispered discussion, the two men left. The man with the dagger standing in front of her cleared his throat, causing Lin Meng to refocus: "Ah, I'm sorry! Please give forty-nine Orr. ”

People are always coming and going, and Lin Meng tries her best to keep up with them. There are certainly fewer people here than there were yesterday. But it's still a lot for her, especially when she's alone. Lin Meng thinks that Jubilee makes sense, because most people bought several bottles of potions yesterday, and it is estimated that they will have to wait a few days to come.
A heavy object landed on the counter. Lin Meng wanted to pick up the heavy shield, but barely lifted it. This is one of the items procured from the dungeons in the Jubilee Year. The girl tilted her head, not knowing how much it should be sold for.
"Uh...... Forty Orr, okay? Thankfully, the man seemed to be indifferent and slapped a few coins on the counter, took the heavy shield over, and walked away with a priest who had come in with him, though the priest was still staring at the glowing potion shelf.

A tall, gray-skinned elf giantess walked in, she was wearing a blue mushroom hat in front of her, and Lin Meng waved at her, recognizing the other party.
"I'll show you this!" The woman said proudly.
She put the stack of hats next to the counter, and Lin Meng counted them. "Nine!" She looked back at the elves and noticed that she was holding the mushroom hats with her bare hands and not the bags: "Wow, you're amazing!" ”
Maybe this sentence was just relative to Lin Meng herself, but the elven giantess still looked very happy, and deliberately bent her arms to show off her biceps.
Lin Meng handed her the coin to count: "Here you go, fifty-four Orr." ”

"Thank you, see you tomorrow!" As the elven giantess spoke, Lin Meng guessed that she might be some kind of dark elf. Considering her appearance, this is perhaps obvious. Is there any real difference between elves and humans and dark elves? And also...... What else? She wasn't sure. She wanted to ask, but at the same time...... I felt a little reckless, so I didn't say it.
Time flew by, and soon it was noon. Now the store is almost empty, Lin Meng's face is pressed against the counter, and her arms are hanging weakly in the front.
"Jubilee! Woooooo ~" Lin Meng muttered listlessly, she was worried about her friend now.
She finally opened the store and made a lot of money. On more than one occasion, she considered closing her doors too early and looking around for the Jubilee. But where will she go? Church? What if they want to see her menu pop-ups? No, Lin Meng sighed and clenched his fists. She must stay here to guarantee that everything will go well when she returns for the Jubilee. Her eyes were heavy and she yawned.
"Painful night?" A voice asked in front of her. Lin Meng screamed in fright and jumped up, waving her arms. The girl looked at the blonde elf standing in front of her.
Lin Meng stared at the bartender of the Adventurer's Guild with wide eyes: "You! You can talk?! ”
The bartender took a step back a little uncomfortably, tilted her head, and a strand of hair drooped from her bangs and slid down her face. "Yes?" The woman turned her head a little nervously and rubbed her head, placing a bottle on the counter. Lin Meng stared at it for a while before realizing that it was one of her own potions.
"Ahh Belch...... Please give me nineteen Orr. She scratched her cheek and explained, "I'm sorry. I'm just surprised to see you here. ”
The woman shook her head and put down the coin that had been used to pay for the potion. "It doesn't matter. I understand. I only work in the guild a few days a week. The rest is my time. ”

"That's really good...... Lin Meng suddenly remembered something: "Ah, wait." About last night's ......"
The bartender quickly raised a hand to signal her to be quiet. Looking around to make sure the store was empty, she nodded to Lin Meng and turned around while holding her potion: "It's been dealt with." ”
The girl watched blankly as the bartender went out the door. 'Got it done'? What are these vague words? What was processed? Where is the Jubilee? Lin Meng returned to the counter, leaned her head on it, and tried her best not to cry.
The sound of a pair of boots sounded, walked to the shelf, and then walked in front of her. Lin Meng raised her head again and looked at the figure with sleepy eyes. The girl straightened up and tilted her head curiously: "Why did you come back again?" "Look at the Red Wizard who just bought five bottles of potions yesterday, the one who got the free samples at the fountain. Lin Meng smiled gently. "You've drunk all five, haven't you......?"
"Yes! They are really nice! The wizard leaned over excitedly and said. Lin Meng really wanted to share her vitality, she was so tired today, she looked at the blue bottle on the counter, and then looked up at the man's sparkling eyes.
"How's the dungeon going?"
"Very good! I've gone down to the tenth floor by myself! She put down a big silver orr. Lin Meng found and gave her five small changes.

"Alone? Don't you have a team? You can find one in the Adventurer's Guild. ”
The Red Wizard grabbed the potion and smiled back: "No, I'm going to exercise myself slowly, after all, the dungeon is free!" ”
Lin Meng smiled and waved goodbye to the door. A moment later, Lin Meng ran upstairs to get some bread for himself and some new potions on the shelf. After another hour, it was raining outside again, and she sat behind the counter, fiddling with her fingers. A few people came in to take shelter from the rain and slowly fill the shelves with a lot of goods to pass the time.
"I want that chicken!" A giant said.
Lin Meng tilted his head, feeling that this man was an orc. Orcs love ...... Chickens?
"You can't raise chickens!" A human priestess standing next to him said angrily that she was less than half the size of a man. Her long pink hair was drenched in the rain and stuck to the inside of her white hood.
The giant is like a child begging for a toy, with his hands folded. "Please?!"
The priestess pursed her lips and crossed her arms to look away, "No." We need money to buy potions. We don't have enough money. ”
"Please?!" The giant continued to grab her shoulders and beg.
Lin Meng wasn't sure, but she felt that the tall man was about to cry.
The priestess pushed away the man's body and said speechlessly, "All right! All right! We'll buy you a chicken. ”
Lin Meng tried her best not to smile and looked at the priestess who seemed to be quite annoyed, and walked to the counter, where the orc held a crystal chicken to his chest, his face was full of smiles, full of childlike wonder and joy. Immediately afterwards, the priestess pulled out a few coins from an empty bag around her waist.
"A ......" her eyebrows pulled down, "Please give me a chicken!" "At the same time put the coins on the counter. Lin Meng looked up at the orcs who were spinning happily. His actions stand in stark contrast to his horrible, gruff, war-scarred appearance. She wondered if this was what she was like with Jubilee?
Lin Meng tilted her head and took the coin.

"Thank you! Welcome back! Lin Meng said politely.
Watch as the orc proudly holds up his gift as he turns to leave. Lin Meng rubbed her arm: "Ah, wait! ”
The two stopped.
She bent down and reached under the counter to pull out a small bottle of her soul potion. "Here you go!" She handed it to the priestess: "Freebie!" ”
After taking it from her hand, the priestess looked at her curiously for a long time and said, "... Thank you. ”
"Welcome back!" When the two left, Lin Meng waved goodbye.
A few more hours passed, and soon, night fell as the sun disappeared again. After the last customer left, Lin Meng closed the door and leaned her head against the door, she was exhausted.
"I did it!" She breathed a sigh of relief and slid to the floor with her back against the front door. What should she do now? It's getting dark. She has to be ready for tomorrow. But...... Are vampires still alive? The bar owner said that "it" had been taken care of. Does that mean she's safe in the dark now? Or should she go back to the guild? Lin Meng's head lit up on the door while thinking.
The door opened, and she was pushed.
"Ahh You're back!!! She looked back at the tiny figure.
Jubilee pushed the door further, motioning for her to get out of the way. "Jubilee! Woo woo woo~" Lin Meng grabbed Jubilee with a howl despite the pain, and the latter protested with a roar.
