Chapter 505: Parting
"Welcome, Shantis," the High Priestess and Grand Druid were seriously discussing matters concerning Ashenvale, when the Sentinel General entered the room. Tyrande greeted her. "I knew that the first expeditionary force would be ready right away. β
The general bowed his head and said. "Compared to the Lady of the Moon, my intelligence network is really slow and inefficient. As you said, we'll be able to go soon. β
Malfurion didn't seem happy with the news. "I will never agree with you commanding this expedition, Tyrande. It should be me who goes. β
"Nope. Elune has shown me the way. Although it pains me to be separated from you, I have seen in my vision that I am on the other side and you are here. I knew it was the right decision. β
He grimaced. "Every time I hear you talk about these kinds of things, I feel like the druids are getting easier. β
Two waiters stepped out of another room behind Tyrande. They brought her armor. "I can't agree with that, old man. It would be nice if I didn't have to have anything to do with the Emerald Dream again. β
"All ready, mistress," one of the attendants reminded the High Priestess. "We're about to deliver your belongings to the ship, and would like to ask if you're going to wear this suit for the voyage. β
"No, I don't. Elune is a sign that we will all have the best of luck. What she can't tell us is what's going to happen in Ashenvale. β
Santis grunted and saluted her. "Judging by the progress of your packing, my message is even more outdated than originally expected. I thought I'd better get my gear on board as well. We're set sail soon. Really?"
The High Priestess smiled. "Yes. But first get your approval. β
"The sooner we get to Ashenvale, the sooner we'll be able to defeat the tribe. Santis saluted Tyrande and Malfurion. Then he strode out.
Tyrande's smile vanished, and she frowned worriedly. He quickly motioned for the waiters to stand down. When only she and her husband were left, Tyrande said. "I really don't see what's going on in Ashenvale, old ma. I don't like that...... But I still know I have to go, and you have to stay. As for why, I can't explain either. β
"I don't need to explain. I'll grit my teeth and do as you say. β
Tyrande kissed the Great Druid. "Thank you for your understanding. β
"Hmph, you know I don't understand at all. β
"Then thank you for pretending to understand. She left his side very reluctantly. "I have to go. β
"I'm not going to send you. I promise. "Earlier, Tyrande begged him not to be present when the fleet sailed. Although she was sure Elune knew what to do, Tyrande and Malfurion were just as reluctant to part with each other. They hadn't spent centuries together. Now, under the covetousness of aging, the situation of the two being separated from each other is more unimaginable than ever. Moreover, they did not know what danger Tyrande would faceβa danger that Malfurion could not handle.
"Oh, any news about the Assassins?" She asked as she left.
"Mavi thinks it has something to do with werewolves. I doubt this is true, but it's not surprising to hear any wind at this point. β
She couldn't help but stop. "Werewolves?"
"I'll continue my investigation with Mavi. As I said, it is likely that nothing will be found. But we'll find out. Let's go, I'll keep Darnassus stable and united while you're away, even if I'm not you. β
"Thank you. The two tried to find a new excuse to delay their parting, but Tyrande left anyway.
Malfurion immediately wanted to turn his attention away from his wife. And that serial murder case is not just imminent. It is also the most reasonable choice. He didn't reveal anything else, and Garrod felt the need to talk to the werewolf, but didn't want his sister to be present at the same time. Although the captain of the former guard did not say so, Garrod's investigative style was clearly at odds with his sister's. Both men were known for their determination to complete their tasks. But Garrod was not so self-righteous. They prefer to negotiate skillfully to achieve their goals. This was more to Malfurion's liking.
And in a time of chaos like this. Any little effort to maintain stability is something that the Great Druid would very much like to see.
He should have waited for Malfurion to come with him, but Garrod could no longer contain his agitation. Besides, he couldn't continue to hide his intentions in front of Mavi. So Garrod was now on his way, and he knew where he could find the werewolves he had encountered. What's more, he can find a special werewolf.
Mavi had other avenues to investigate, and she had taken Niva with her, so Garrod had been able to slip out so easily. His sister still didn't see him as an integral part of the investigation, but as long as he wasn't in the way, it was good to be able to stumble upon something.
Maybe someday. We were able to get to know each other better, Garrod thought as he approached the area where he had last encountered werewolves.
Garrod smelled a faint scent that reminded him of a werewolf. A sweet, musky scent. The smell was very faint. But that doesn't mean werewolves aren't around at the moment.
"Night Elf ......"
It's closer than I thought...... Garrod turned to face the werewolf who had spoken. He didn't recognize the pattern of the other's coat, but at least it wasn't the werewolf he was looking for.
"What are you doing here again?" The werewolf roared.
So at least one of the last encounters. Now there is no need to waste time explaining who he is, which makes Garrod happy. He probably had a lot more to explain.
"I'd like to talk to one of you. The guy who led the way last time I came. β
The werewolf raised his head and sniffed in the air. Garrod realized that the Gilneth man was smelling the intruder, perhaps even discerning whether he had a sweat that represented a lie or fear.
"I know who you're talking about. He won't want to talk to you. β
"I'm just asking for this opportunity. As soon as he says so, I'll leave immediately. β
The werewolf flattened his ears and frowned. Ultimately. He reluctantly gestured in the direction Garrod was heading. "This way. It's not far away. β
The wolf-like figure didn't move, and the Night Elf turned and began to walk in the direction he was pointing. Even though he didn't hear the werewolf's voice coming from behind, he knew the creature was following him.
They climbed a low hill. Then went down from the other side. Garrod couldn't help but feel more eyes on him in the woods around him.
Without warning, another werewolf jumped in front of them, landing on all fours, then defying himself to his feet to face the Night Elf. But Garrod had been waiting for a long time, so there was no fear on his face.
This was the werewolf he was looking for. Judging by the color of his coat, you can't be mistaken. Another thing that could not be mistakenly was that the werewolf was unhappy with Garrod's arrival.
"You...... You shouldn't have come back......" he yelled at the werewolf who brought the Night Elves here, "and you should have known better!"
The Gilneth man flattened his ears and let out a faint whimper. When the leader briefly waved his hand and ordered the werewolf to stand down. Garrod saw him reveal extremely sharp claws.
The leader now turned his gaze to the woods. He pricked up his ears and let out a low howl.
Garrod heard nothing. But after a moment, the werewolf relaxed slightly.
"It's just you and me now," the werewolf confidently declared.
The Night Elf didn't ask him why he was so sure. He trusted the werewolf's senses. "I'm so grateful to be able to talk to youβ"
"I didn't say I wanted to talk to you! you should have known it the last time you came. You're not welcome!"
The werewolf said as he brought his mouth closer to Garrod's face. That bloody jaw could easily end the conversation with a single biteβif the Gilneth man hadn't been assassinated by Garrod's sword before then. Although the Night Elves did not hold their weapons in their hands, they were ready to draw their swords and would never let the werewolves gain the upper hand; Thousands of years have not slowed Garrod's reaction much further.
It was as if he couldn't intimidate the Night Elf. The werewolf stepped back a little. The two looked at each other for a moment.
"I'm sorry. Garrod finally replied calmly. "I came alone to avoid any unnecessary trouble. If I can talk to you for a while, you will never hear me again. β
The werewolf roared, but eventually nodded. "Hurry up and ask!"
"My name is Garrod?
"I don't care about your name!
The captain of the guard nodded. "You didn't say you saved me from the trap. β
"So you should have understood that I didn't want to mention it at all. It was just a momentary soft-heartedness......" Having said that, for the first time, there was sympathy in the werewolf's voice. "But I can't just leave you behind. β
"Therefore I owe you forever. But tell me, why were you there?"
The Gilneth man looked into the distance. "We know that there are spellcasters who have been murdered. We know that there are people who believe that we are murderers! There is no order from the Lord, but some of us want to find out the truth for ourselves. β
"Did you find anything?"
The werewolf looked up at the sky. "Yes. We've found that the kind of trap you step on can easily kill us!"
Garrod was taken aback. "One of you died?"
"The trap isn't exactly the same. Yours, for its part, is almost completely invisible, and its presence can only be detected by the traces of withered blades of grass around it. That's why I was able to spot the trap that trapped you. Unfortunately. We learned this only after the loss. β
"I'm sorry. β
His companion nodded in acceptance of Garrod's sympathy. "We couldn't get her out in time. Yes, the same as yours. It first inflicts painful torment, but once the target manages to escape, the second element will take the heart straight from within. He recalled the evil deed, and he couldn't help but bared his teeth. "Later we found out that her heart really exploded. β
"Elune is on top!"
"You now understand why I'm trying my best to save you. β
"Where did it happen?"
The werewolf bared its teeth again. "It's not far from where you're in danger. That's why I'm nearby: I want to investigate the Quartet of her tragic death and see if there are any clues that can help us avenge her. β
"Did you find it?"
"The only clue is the trap that almost killed you, the Night Elves. The Gilneth man flattened his ears. "I don't have much more to tell you. β
The Gilneys were clearly telling Garrod to stop asking, and the Night Elves understood this. "I am so grateful for what you have told me. This will help. β
"I doubt it. Your sister seems to think we're guilty. β
"Mavi always has to make sure that what needs to be done has been done. Garrod replied defensively. "She always did her duty to our people. β
"But we are not your people. With that, the werewolf stepped back and prepared to leave.
Garrod began to walk back as well, but he stopped again. "If you think of any other clues, you know my name. β
The werewolf snorted...... Then hesitated. "And my name is Idrick. I'm telling you this because I guess you're keeping it a secret. β
"Of course. β
The Gilneys disappeared into the woods. Garrod stood there for a moment, wondering if he had gotten what he wanted. He chewed on the werewolf's words over and over again, trying to get to the bottom of what they meant.
Want to get to the bottom of what it means...... And pray that no more upper elves will be assassinated before then. (To be continued......)
