Chapter 465: Commander
The Wood-Plasticizers have been a member of the Sentinel Unit since its inception. Although she was born hundreds of years before General Santis, Hadrisha was well aware of the general's abilities and eager to learn from her. Therefore, she rose through the ranks in the army, climbing all the way to the position of commander.
Hadrisha had a narrow face, frowning all the time—as if she was always in deep thought. Shortly before the Cataclysm, she was promoted to commander-in-chief of the Night Elves' army in Ashenvale. The Ashen Valley is located in the northern half of Kalimdor, spanning most of the width of the continent. Despite being far away from Teldashir and Darnassus, it is not only a sacred place for the Night Elves, but also important for maintaining civilization. The Night Elves and their allies only harvest in a limited area of the vast forest, so as not to affect the natural environment too much.
Hadrisha stood at the front of the group, squinting her eyes into the woods. Like the other sentinels, she rides on the back of a large, muscular cat. This animal gets its name from the Nightblade Leopard because of its long, curved teeth. Night Elves and Nightblade Panthers, as the name suggests, are both nocturnal creatures. But now they need to come out during the day. Most of the races they deal with are diurnal creatures, and they are usually active during the day, but that doesn't mean they won't be nocturnal...... This leaves her with the most complex and dangerous situations.
There was no sign of the tribe moving around, but Hadrisha would never trust the orcs and their allies to stay in the eastern region. Giving them a foothold in the Grey Valley was bad enough.
"What do you see, Shannon?" She asked a Night Elf man on her left. Shanon wasn't the highest-ranking officer under her command, but even among the sentinels he was known for his sharp eyes. "Is there something wrong?"
Shanon leaned forward to look at it, then replied, "One qiē safe, Commander." ”
No one objected. Hadrisha motioned for the team to move on. The Commander is inspecting an important outpost with a team of approximately fifty Night Elves. Hadrisha insisted on going out on regular rounds, and the best way to keep the outpost captains motivated was to let them know that she would be coming to check on the work.
It was only an hour's journey to the outpost on the Nightblade Leopard. They stopped because they felt that there was a mistake in the deployment of the outpost. Hadrisha insisted that guards should be placed not only in the direction where the tribe might attack, but also in impossible directions. Enemies may sneak past outposts, surprise from behind, or penetrate deep into Night Elf territory to wreak havoc. If Hadrisha could imagine it, so could the new Great Chief of the Tribe.
After a short walk, Hadrisha turned to her lieutenant, Dani, and said, "Send two scouts to the outpost and report back...... Don't let anyone find out. ”
Dani summoned two riders and sent them out. Hadrisha watched as the backs of the two of them blurred before disappearing into the distance. She was a little frustrated, but she tried to hide it. Her eyesight is not as good as it was a few months ago. In fact, it seems to have gotten worse these days.
"Get your weapons ready. She commanded the others. Dani had already drawn her longbow and repeated her command at this moment.
They kept going, finding nothing along the way, only to be more suspicious because of it. Hadrisha estimated the time it would take for the scouts to go back and forth, and knew that they would have to wait a little longer.
A Nightbladed Panther suddenly roared and charged at them, the mount of the Scout he had sent out not long ago. Hadrisha and her warriors are alert, ready for the battle to come.
The beast was badly wounded and had an arrow in its body, and it was evident that it had been through endurance that it had managed to run so far. Its minions were stained with blood, indicating that it had also inflicted pain on its enemies before leaving the battle.
One of the two scouts was riding on its back, already out of breath.
Shanon cursed and drove the leopard forward. And he's not alone. But Hadrisha waved at the eager crowd to stop them from chasing after them. Dani had already made her way to the dying Nightblade Leopard, and after examining the rider on its back, she frowned angrily.
"We can only leave her here for the time being, and then bring her back for a dignified burial when we return. Hadrisha nodded to her lieutenant. Dani and another sentry quickly jumped off their mounts and removed the body from the tormented cat's back. They carefully placed their comrades under the nearest tree, and then returned to the Nightblade Leopard.
The big cat gasped heavily. The closer one gets, the more they can see the terrible wounds on its body. Blood was everywhere, and the Nightblade Leopard stared at Daini with pain in his eyes. One of its saber teeth had been broken, and more blood was spurting out as it coughed violently. The beast was clearly beyond help. Dani drew her dagger and leaned over to whisper to it. Nightblade Leopard gently licked her knife-holding hand, then calmly closed her eyes in anticipation. Dani gritted her teeth and expertly slashed it down its throat. Nightblade Leopard immediately lost his breath.
"Spread out the formation!" After the lieutenant was on his mount, Hadrisha ordered, "Shanon...... You and these people go that way. Dani, you lead the team to the south. The others come with me. ”
Soon after, the Night Elves vigilantly entered the said area. Hadrisha's Nightblade Leopard sniffed into the air, then roared under his breath. The Commander calmed the mount's head with his hand, then slowly extended his hand to the bow.
A sharp arrow struck the warrior beside her. The blow hit the throat perfectly.
It's from above.
Hadrisha quickly drew her bow and arrows to fight back. Before that, however, two moonblades had already swirled in the direction the arrow was coming from. This deadly weapon with three arcing blades slashed through the foliage.
There was a painful grunt from the top of the tree. One of the moonblades shot out of the canopy and returned to its owner.
A moment later, another one appeared—but in the chest of an orc. The enemy archers fell like stones, their wounded bodies lying on the ground.
However, before the orc could breathe, nearly a dozen more enemies rushed out of the woods ahead. Most of the orcs rode black wolves, fighting with axes, spears, or swords in their hands to kill Hadrisha's team.
The Night Elves didn't wait for their enemies to rush at them. Hadrisha shot an arrow at the first orc who rushed towards him, but the arrow that should have hit the target hit his shoulder instead. The injury wasn't even enough to slow the ferocious orc, and he raised his weapon to slash at her mount's head.
At this moment, a nearby nightblade leopard was shot in the neck by a condescending arrow. The creature stumbled and threw the rider on its back forward. An orc took the opportunity to jump off the wolf and swung his weapon at the Night Elf who fell to the ground. The sentry rolled over and tried to parry, but it was too late. The orc's battle axe struck her in the chest, right near her collarbone.
The wounded Nightblade Leopard tried to attack the orc, but was stopped by the warrior's wolf. The two behemoths fought each other with their fangs and claws, looking for gaps in each other. Despite the Nightblade's size advantage, the wound slowed it down.
Hadrisha rounded the ferocious beasts and fired another arrow at the orcs. It was too close for her to miss again. The arrow went deep into the orc's chest, and the power was so great that the dying warrior flew backwards a few paces away.
Another arrow screeched past the commander's ear. Hadrisha cursed, and shot back in the direction of the arrow. Her arrow apparently missed its target, but it forced the orc in the tree to move to a more open area, and was killed by an arrow from the south.
Dani swung her longbow and let out a cry of victory, then led the crowd at the orcs. At the same time, Shanon's squad also rushed from the north. They fought each other with swords, and the Nightblade Leopard and the Wolf fought each other.
Dani had replaced her bow with a moonblade. A salivating wolf pounced on her thigh, and she slit her throat with a sword. She looked left and right, looking for her next foe, her long black tail tied to the back of her head like a whip.
The orcs fought ferociously...... Even more ferocious than Hadrisha had thought. From time to time, they showed their flaws, and seemed to rush to the enemy's side at any cost. They relied on sheer brute force to stand up to the outnumbered Night Elves. Obviously, there is a good chance of victory in the battle with them.
As soon as the Commander had the idea, a wolf-riding orc lunged at her, forcing her to stop thinking. Hadrisha dropped her longbow and picked up the moonblade, and used her blade to hold the orc's tomahawk. As the two weapons clashed, her arm slammed.
Enemy wolves scurried to the flanks of her Nightblade Leopard to create better opportunities for its riders. The Commander's mount jerked to protect Hadrisha, but the orc had already swung his weapon.
Under the heavy blow, the blade of the moon blade broke off in response. The top one flew towards Hadrisha's cheek. She felt a tingling pain in her left eye, and then she couldn't see. The wet liquid trickled down her left cheek, making her almost faint in pain.
A scream rang out in her consciousness, orc! watch out for that orc!
Hadrisha covered her blindness with one hand, trying to concentrate on dealing with the enemy. Through the hazy teary eyes, she could only vaguely discern the silhouette of the orc. Despite the Nightblade's best efforts to fend off the wolf, he still pressed forward.
Hadrisha twisted the Moonblade, pointing one of the two remaining blades in the direction of her guessed battle axe. Her head was splitting, and she could no longer see the silhouette of the orc.
She knew her life was short.
However, the fatal blow did not come. Instead, the Nightblade Leopard no longer shook violently, and it seemed as if the fight between it and the Wolf had suddenly ended.
"Commander!" Someone shouted in her ear. She recognized Dani's voice.
"That orc—"
"The orcs are dead!" A small hand grabbed her arm holding the weapon. Hadrisha blinked the tears from her remaining eyes, and Daini's face became clearer before her eyes. "Don't move, Commander! you need to be treated, quick!"
"Fighting—"
"It's over! The orcs have been slaughtered, and their war wolves have died together!"
Hadrisha knew it was best to capture a captive, but not always in the heat of battle. Dani walked over to her blind side and began to treat her wounds. Hadrisha was finally better able to concentrate on the current situation. Something suddenly occurred to her.
"Outpost...... We must rush to the outpost......"
She was forced to wait for them to bandage her eyes, and then Shanon also built them to turn around and go back. Hadrisha began to feel like an old grandmother rather than a commander, and she became angry. The Night Elves silently accepted her orders, and the whole group made their way to the outpost, ready for the worst.
Unexpectedly, as the team approached the wooden building, two soldiers on duty came out of the woods. They were a little surprised to see this large group of men and horses, especially when they saw the commander's face covered with strips.
Before they could speak, Hadrisha asked quickly, "Is the outpost normal?"
They looked at each other in bewilderment, and one of them replied, "Yes, Commander!
"Are there any other guards in the woods behind us?"
"Two ......"
Along the way, there was no sign of the two guards or the other scout sent by Hadrisha. She had no doubts about their fate.
"A reconnaissance force," Dani asserted to her. "They managed to sneak around the outpost, but must have been spotted by the two missing police posts. A grim smile appeared on her face. "Well, now they can't spy on our secrets and report to their Great Chief. We solved this trouble and avenged the loss of our comrades!"
Shanon and the others seemed to agree with her, but Hadrisha remained silent. She pondered the orcs' expressions in battle. Despite being outnumbered, they still regard death as home. This is not unusual for orcs: they are often fanatically willing to sacrifice their lives.
"But what are they sacrificing their lives for?" She said to herself.
"What did you say, Commander?" Dani asked.
A sharp pain came from Hadrisha's wound, forcing her to raise a hand over her head. However, the desire to find out is even more intense. "Bring a message to the outpost. Let them search the area carefully—"
"You think there are more orcs?"
"Nope. "She hoped she was wrong. This may be useful, but it is also a remedy. The attackers have completed their mission and given their lives for the Horde. "No...... Now they've slipped back......"
There have been orc raids before, but this time Hadrisha felt that something was not quite right. Never before have the Horde sent troops so deep into the region, nor on such a scale.
She should get the word to the general at once. For months, Santis and the High Priestess had been waiting for the Horde to make some moves to upset the fragile balance between the two camps. And now Hadrisha believed she had just witnessed such an act.
But what exactly did this invasion portend? The wounded commander was anxious to know.
She didn't know the answer. But in any case, what Hadrisha knew was that there would be more blood spilled on the earth than there was today. Much more. (To be continued.) )
