Chapter Eighty-Six: Ouroboros
Ouroboros are magical creatures.
It is a creature that has no eyes, no ears, no nose, no breathing, no hearing, and no ability to move. Oviparous, burrowing, with no natural lifespan limit.
From birth, it bites its own tail, devouring, growing, and dying – living on it, and starting a long, never-ending cycle from there.
In the modern wizarding world, this magical creature is widely found in the rainforests of West Africa and South America, in the sandy beaches of small islands in the Aegean Sea, and in the foothills of Kunlun-Tanggula.
The small Ouroboros are about the thickness of silk and less than a minute long, while the large Ouroboros are only the thickness of the arms and are not as long as the length of the children. They don't have fangs, claws, or wring, and they don't even have any offensive magic.
It would be a mistake to assume that the Ouroboros is a fragile magical creature for these reasons alone.
Because of some ancient blessings, these magical creatures do not exist in the eyes of the whites - this prevents them from being harmed by ignorance, and in the eyes of wizards, these seemingly 'weak' beings are taboo to be feared.
Legend has it that the history of the Ouroboros dates back to the moment when the universe was opened. The second son of the ancient Norse god Loki, Jörmungad, is their distant relative, the West African demigod Eduphado is their close friend in the rainforest, and the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, and the Brahmin god Shesha Serpent have all borrowed their images to varying degrees on the avatars of the Arrival.
In addition, the powerful space-time magic 'Möbius Ring', as well as its advanced version, 'Klein in a Bottle', require enough Ouroboros bone powder to be mixed in ink as a base medium when transcribing spells.
With such a prominent background and ability, the Ouroboros symbol has been transformed into a separate magic pattern in today's wizarding world, representing the symbol of 'full of purifying powers', which is widely used by many alchemists in their works.
The great alchemist Thomas Brown once wrote in a letter to a friend:
“...... The first day should determine the last, just as the serpent's tail should return to its mouth...... They should all end at the same time as they were born...... It's an unusual coincidence......"
Mack King Seprano, a sophomore at Alpha Academy, had not read many of Mr. Thomas Brown's writings—one of the twin stars of Alpha Academy was not good at alchemy—but that didn't stop him from borrowing some elements of Ouroboros when he founded Cheung Kei.
Immortal, cyclical, infinite.
Either way, it was tempting for the ambitious young wizard.
Despite being born in Alpha Academy, the fat wizard has a lot of respect for the ideas of other colleges.
He praised Jiuyou Academy's assessment method regardless of background, appreciated the practice-based learning philosophy of Star Academy, and believed in the purpose of Atlas Academy: everyone has their own beliefs, and everyone needs their own beliefs.
Seprano's faith is the rule.
He believes that if everything is handled according to the rules, then the world is perfect.
So when he walks, every step is ninety-two centimeters, no more, no less, when eating, he chews each bite of food nine times and then swallows it, he goes to the toilet at half past eleven in the morning every day, squatting in the same pit every time, and then after washing his hands, he always shakes it three times and then wipes it with a paper towel.
Every night at twelve o'clock he went to bed punctually, then got up at half past five in the morning, walked around the Alpha Castle, and spent an hour meditating on the portraits of the chattering old men.
And most importantly, he doesn't kill - whether it's insects, beasts, or demons, in Seprano's eyes, they are all the same, respectable beings.
This point, not only did not arouse the disgust of other wizards, but unexpectedly gained the respect of many fans.
You must know that in this world, the bad relationship between demons and wizards has a long history. Any act of appeasing demons will be despised by all. Only Seprano, with his charisma, earned this privilege in the ivory tower of the First University.
At this moment, in the lounge of the Cheung Kei Club, more than a dozen core members of the society stood or sat around, surrounding Seprano, quietly listening to the nagging of the fat wizard.
Like Seprano, these young wizards have an Ouroboros tattooed on their bodies. It's just that some people have tattoos on their necks, some on their arms, and some on the roots of their fingers.
The only thing that is the same is that these ornaments all have a bright color that a real Ouroboros does not have.
“...... Friedman's biggest mistake was arrogance. ”
"Arrogance is blinding. ”
His aristocratic arrogance led him to forgo the lucrative trade with the Fishmen, as he felt that the stinking copper should not be in Alpha Castle. ”
"And the arrogance of his Karen family, which made him lose his mind after his men were humiliated by a few young men...... No wise man can stumble twice in the same pit, and our Lord Sir, who has already stumbled three times in a pit. ”
A chuckle of approval rang out in the room.
There was one voice that stood out in the midst of the laughter—a voice that was not in the slightest bit repressive or polite, but rather a little arrogant.
Seprano couldn't help but turn his head to look at where the voice was.
It's a young man.
Of course, as a sophomore, he didn't have a position to call other wizards 'young men'. But as the founder and sole core of the Cheung Kei Club, he is qualified enough to look down on other subordinates of the same class or older.
"Andrew!" The fat wizard raised his arm, spread his stubby fingers, beckoned, and gestured, "Andrew Taylor... Laughing so happily, do you have any thoughts you would like to share with everyone?"
There was a dead silence in the break room.
Everyone lowered their eyelids and silently looked at the tip of their noses, as if they wanted to discover a new world on it.
Andrew didn't seem to notice that.
"What a faux pas, sir!" he said with an exaggerated smile as he spread his arms, "though I don't know how many falls that vampire fell...... But hearing that the hypocrites of the Cullen family are unlucky always makes me unable to contain the joy in my heart......"
"It's a bit of a faux pas. Seprano squinted, looked at the brightly colored Ouroboros around Andrew's neck, and bowed slightly: "...... You just joined Cheung Kei last month...... I remember that you also donated a hundred jade coins to the meeting. ”
As he spoke, the fat wizard's gaze slid over the magic ring between the young master of the Taylor family's fingers, and his face became more and more gentle.
"It is my pleasure, sir. Andrew Taylor bent over with a grin, "It's an honor to be an Ouroboros." ”
Ouroboros is the unified symbol of the members of the Cheung Kei Club.
Because of this same tattoo, Ouroboros has gradually become synonymous with 'Cheung Kei Club' at the First University. Some wizards flock to it, while others avoid it. But as long as there are no malignant incidents, First University has never interfered with such active interactions between students.
As a result, young wizards studying at First University will always join certain societies to seek refuge - and many young people will always be proud to be part of a certain 'circle' with high standards.
After all, this is capital that can benefit in the long run.
"Good. Seprano smiled approvingly, "I suddenly thought of something interesting...... Maybe it's a good choice for you to do it. ”
Andrew straightened up in surprise.
While it was something to boast about being able to get Seprano's attention, this sudden luck always gave him a sense of unreality.
Seprano didn't let the young master of the Taylor family think about it for too long.
"This year's freshman hunting competition for the school hunting party...... Are you interested in participating?" the fat wizard shifted his position and sat a little more comfortably in his chair, then added, "If I'm not mistaken, maybe you have a chance to beat up the new Karen kid at the freshman tournament...... I guess it helps you keep a good mood. ”
As he spoke, he raised his head, his deep eyes fixed on the face of the little werewolf opposite.
