Chapter 11 Company Dogs
"Good morning, everyone, and welcome to News 54, I'm Gillian Jordan. Violence continued to spread rampantly in Taiping Chau, where a huge gang fight triggered a huge explosion in which one of the historic churches was reduced to rubble. The Animal Gang claimed that the conflict had established their supremacy in Taiping Continent, and that the Voodoo Gang had become a thing of the past. The police in Night City, out of concern for the safety of the surrounding area, have set up checkpoints at the entrance and exit of the highway and advised travelers to avoid passing through this area. News Channel 54 will continue to report on the follow-up of this incident. β
"Alan! See, we're on TV! Jason jumped up excitedly and pointed to the TV.
"Alright, be quiet, you have to let the world know that you did it!" Alan leaned back on the couch and made a small gesture.
"Oh, it's okay, it didn't take a picture of our face anyway, who knows." Jason looked indifferent.
After arriving at Taipingzhou, Alan attempted to decipher Bridget's remnants, but progress was slow. Locsil vanished again, leaving only a message for Alan, instructing him to send it to him if he finished deciphering it.
Alan rubbed his eyebrows with one hand and took a sip of coffee, "I'm really lucky that this operation was able to escape unscathed." Three street rookies not only got involved in gang fighting, but also escaped. β
"But what about this desperately copied data? With the technology at hand, it would be very difficult to decipher. If I had to describe it, it would be like someone trying to find Batmoss's body on their own. β
Jason: "Hey, Alan we're graduating next month, do you have any plans for the future?" β
"Ah, I forgot about this stubble, I'm about to graduate, and the future direction has not been decided yet." Alan felt distressed in his heart.
"I'm going to become a lone wolf mercenary after graduation and become a street warrior like Morgan Black Hand or Wayland Snake. In our realm, heroes don't look at their background, it depends on whether you can step out of your own way. How about it, if you're interested, come with me. With your technical mind and my marksmanship and combat effectiveness, you will be able to drink with those gangsters in the next life in less than two years! β
Faced with Jason's sincere invitation, Alan smiled and politely declined; "Thanks, brother. But I have my own plans. I'm going to join the company. β
Jason: "The company? Also, with your smart and yin intelligence, it's easy to mix up there, and it may not be long before you can choose a house in the North Oak District. Which company are you going to apply for? Biotechnology? Winter Moon? Yeshi or Zeta Technology? β
Alan was silent for a moment and said, "Arasaka. β
Jason was a little surprised: "No, brother, you actually want to go to that kind of place, to work for that old immortal guy of Saburo Arasaka." Believe me, this is equivalent to selling your soul, and the company is full of guys who eat people and don't spit out bones. β
Alan patted Jason on the shoulder with a relaxed face and said, "I'm innocent of what you mean, but I have my own plans, as my best brother and friend, I hope you can support me, okay?" β
Looking at Alan's resolute appearance, Jason suddenly tried to convince him that it was no longer possible; He sighed and said, "Okay, Alan. Do what you want, but promise me that if you can't stay in that place any day, come back, Heywood will always be your home, and the doors will always be open for you. β
Alan smiled and hugged Jason; "Thanks, good brother!"
ββ
A month later, Alan and Jason graduated from Night City University, and Alan's application to Arasaka was approved a week later. He was assigned to the scientific research and technology department in Arasaka.
After about three months on the job, Alan made his mark in the department with his unusual talent, which gradually attracted the attention of the company's top management.
ββ
Half a year later, in an apartment on Charter Hill.
Alan was asleep on his bed in his apartment, and a week of intense work had drained him of the last of his energy. For this reason, he asked the head of the department for a three-day vacation.
Drip ββ! Suddenly, a phone call pulled Alan back from her sleep to this harsh reality.
"Hello? What's wrong with Simmons, I'm on vacation? β
Simmons: "I know you're on vacation, but I still want to inform you that there's a company dinner in the evening, and I heard that there will be a big man from the Arasaka family who will come to inspect the research department, so the whole department will be attended, including the employees on vacation, and the location is set at the Kambi Building." β
Alan complained with a sad face in an instant. "No, I've only been taking a long day off, otherwise you can help me be accommodating, even if I can't afford to be seriously ill."
"That's not good, don't bargain with me, if I don't see your figure at night, the consequences will be white and hanging."
In the face of Simmons' callous notification, Alan felt his entire brain rip open, and a feeling of vomiting came from his stomach. Alan hurried to the bathroom and retched down the toilet.
After vomiting, I felt exhausted, and I sat down on the floor, leaning against the edge of the toilet. He looks half-dead, like a homeless man in the alley on the side of Night City.
Alan got up from the ground with difficulty, looking at himself in the mirror, with some messy long hair, godless eyes, and a very bad complexion, all of which were the result of staying up late and working overtime in the company.
"That's it, let's go, anyway, when the dinner party starts, I'll find a place where no one is going to sleep."
Alan glanced at the time, half past ten. "There's still half a day to spare, let's go for a ride."
After washing, I gave myself a shot of "Tilt Therapy Type 2" on my arm. This is an injectable type of medication that is effective in relieving pain and is also effective in treating dizziness and nausea.
Alan put on a black casual suit and went out, following the elevator to the apartment's underground parking lot. What catches your eye is a Chevrolet Thracian 388 Jefferson, which is a must-have for middle managers. It's elegant, respectable... And most importantly, safety. It is wrapped in armor from end to end, even through minefields, and bulletproof windows are enough to bounce through large-caliber ammunition. What about the downside? Despite a sturdy engine that could reach blazing speeds, Thrace was overweight and accelerated slowly. But as the saying goes, it's better to be late than never. Not to mention that it can be arrived intact.
With a sedan ride down the highway and a view of Night City, Westbrook is considered by many to be the best place to live. The mansions of dignitaries are located on the hillside of the North Oak District, and the whole is as quiet as poetry, and the North Oak is the most beautiful area of the whole city. Then there's Charter Hill, a paradise for all ambitious, middle-class corporate employees. Finally, there is Japantown, the entertainment center of Night City, which is used to receive tourists and company employees.
Mount Charter, where Alan lives, is a relatively new and well-maintained area that was built from scratch during reconstruction. Charter Hill quickly became popular among Night City's high society β at least until North Oak became more popular 20 years ago. Still, most aspiring mid-tier company employees work from sunrise to sunset in Westbrook or downtown, and then, at the end of the day, party in Japantown, and finally get a night's sleep in one of their apartments on Charter Hill to get rid of their hangover. Each of them secretly dreams of becoming the CEO of a certain company and moving to North Oaks, but they are constantly fighting each other in order to achieve this goal. If you see someone who dresses without a corporate style, they could be up-and-coming musicians, artists, or well-paid freelancers who have the capital to scoff at Little Chinatown and SchΓΆnbrunn.
Alan plans to drive to Japantown, where the population is predominantly Japanese, and the town is always crowded with tourists during the day. For them, bars, high-end restaurants, game arcades, cherry blossom department stores and Shinto temples are all must-see places to visit Night City, which is clean and safe during the day, a great place to sightsee, and it's just a bridge away from the famous Company Square. The many hotels in Enterprise Square are also good places to stop.
There's another side to Japantown, though. Luca Donner is a colleague at Alan's company, and as a mid-level employee of the company, Luca knows Japantown well, even a little too well.
At night, Japantown becomes a meeting area for tourists and the high-paying class. After a full day of intense business battles, exhausted white-collar workers need to find a place to decompress. Tourists are interested in pure entertainment and the wild nights in Night City. Both groups of people lingered in Fengyue Field, spending a lot of money at the gambling table, and finally got drunk. But they also have to be careful to avoid the Tigerclaws, a gang that rules the area after nightfall.
"If you're a big patron," says Luca, "you'll be served just right by their grey services, like Genting Club, which offers some of the best sex couple experiences in Night City." But if you do something stupid, you'd better have someone on top of you, or it's going to be very bad for you. The so-called "unfavorable" refers to cutting off body parts, so ...... After dark, put the trick on the spotlight. β
But at this moment, Alan would never have thought about who he would face tonight.
