Chapter Seventy-Eight: The Plague—The Slaughterhouse
Dark Realm.
Filled with remnants of civilization from the past, the slaughterhouse is built of massive limestone columns with a series of towering arcades surrounding the central arena. Before the Central Plains civilization appeared, there was a highly civilized country here, and this building was once the center of human civilization that ruled this land.
The cities of the Dark Realm were built on the ruins of this great city, and when the Nezumi Tech Spellcasters first saw this incredible and magnificent structure, they were all shocked by the wisdom of the ancients, and they couldn't believe that such an amazing civilization had once appeared in the southern part of the Western Mountains.
But the wise men among these nezumi were very curious about why there was no mention of this ancient kingdom in the history books of the Central Plains Dynasty, and soon this group of academic fanatics began a heated discussion about it, some of them believed that the Central Plains Dynasty had been in war for a long time and had no time to take care of this place, and some believed that this ancient kingdom had perished long before leaving the dynasty.
But whatever the reason, the fact that the ancient kingdom disappeared has already been decided. So who exactly destroyed the country?
Compared to the Nezumi Wise, those Nezumi Lords didn't care about what happened here, and since they were already extinct, it wasn't worth their trouble. Due to its age, the name of this building is no longer known, and everything about this place has been reduced to the dust of history along with its former owner. And now, its new owners have given it a new name, one that more sharply highlights its new use, the slaughterhouse.
An arena capable of holding 60,000 people was insignificant to its new owners. On top of the stone arcades, the sapper rats were ordered to build a new arcade on top of them, as high as they could, but as the number of floors increased, the building became more and more crumbling and dangerous.
Due to the religious fervor of the rat people, not only the other fourteen lords of the Absolute Arena demanded that nine more floors be added to the arena, bringing the total floor height to the sacred fifteenth floor, and that the entire arena would be able to cram 700,000 rats. A jumble of brackets and supports struggled to restrain the messy carpentry, but they usually didn't last long.
It won't be long before the parts of the wooden frame will collapse with a terrible regularity, and thousands of rats will be stoned to death. There have been two collapses in the entire slaughterhouse during this time, but for those lords, they don't want to dig into what caused these accidents, just die one group and the other group top.
Moreover, this kind of disaster is also taken for granted among the nezumi, and any calamity that affects others is insignificant to each nezumi individual. The services provided by the slaughterhouse are too important for the inhabitants of the Dark Realm to be inseparable from it. For the weak and oppressed, the slaughterhouse provides them with a place to escape from a life of misery.
For the more successful pimps, there are gamblers and all sorts of social dregs with other vices near the arena. And for Jemble, this is a novelty that will entertain him and solve many of the problems that exist within the nezumi.
There is a huge fortune behind such a large entertainment venue, and each lord wants to get more out of it, so that they will inevitably compete with each other, and the ruler of the kingdom can sit on the throne and watch the group of lords fight each other.
In addition to helping Jedi achieve the balance of power, it is also a good solution to the already crowded living environment of the nezumi, and when the nezumi indulge in the sound of dogs and horses, pleasure will prevail over all physical and mental feelings, and they will forget the hunger in their stomachs and the flea-covered fur. In the eyes of the stranger, these guys are useless people in the first place, and instead of letting them die worthless, it is better to provide themselves with some extra income before they die.
The Plague Priest was sitting on a stone bench next to the arcade on the third floor at the moment, the entire floor had been polished unusually smooth due to the polishing of a large number of nezumi claws, and the Plague Priest had to struggle with this feeling, because as soon as you sat on the stool, you would feel a feeling of sliding down, as if you would tilt and fall downstairs if you were not careful.
Just then there was some strange movement from upstairs, and the Plague Priest lifted his horrible face and looked at the ceiling with a frown, he also knew that this place was not secure, and if he heard the creak of wood or the breaking of ropes, he would flee from this place immediately.
But he waited a long time and did not hear these sounds, and the collapse of the superstructure did not happen. The previous movement was more like the sound of a pedestrian falling down due to the crowd, of course, it may have been pushed by someone, but at least what I was worried about didn't happen, otherwise I would have been really unlucky during this time.
The arcade is topped by a net of columns and beams designed to intercept falling nezumi from being killed by some unlucky ones. However, the pillars weren't always able to stop the falling nezumi, as there had been an accident not far from the priest.
After getting rid of the killer sent by Ciri and dissolving Birob's plot, it would be a great shame if he died in a stupid accident. Although nothing happened for the time being, who knew if the movement just now was a deliberate move to numb himself, the priest squinted his eyes and stared at the wooden frame above his head, trying to judge whether the person who fell from such a height could cause fatal injury to himself.
When the priest thought of the fact that Birob had already fled with his tail between his legs, he realized that he had been too worried. That damn guy knew that not only himself, but even the Plague Lord would not let go of this traitor who had colluded with outsiders, so he had already packed up his things and ran away.
But despite this, the pastor feels that he is not safe right now. Birob also has some high-ranking friends in the Dark Realm, those guys had warned him before the assassination, and in addition to this, this traitor has many potential allies hidden in the shadows, and these will be the ones who will threaten his life.
And he doesn't know anything about how deep the relationship between Birob and Ciri is, how much money he promised them, what Ciri wants to get, and so on, if the benefits are enough, he will be chased and killed by this group of guys wherever he goes, and only by figuring out all kinds of things can he really save the day.
With this in mind, the Plague Priest came to the slaughterhouse to raise his allies outside the confines of the Plague Order. If he causes more dissatisfaction among the clan against Ciri, then Ciri will not hesitate to abandon Birob, a former ally, out of self-interest.
.......
As thousands of rat people greeted the activities unfolding in the arena with bloodthirsty joy, the screams of excitement trembled throughout the slaughterhouse. A large pit suddenly appeared on the sandy ground of the arena, and there was nothing but darkness in which he could not reach his fingers. The lowly slaves, wiping the blood from their last activity and cleaning up the debris of their internal organs, screamed in horror and hurried towards the small iron door embedded in the wall.
When they found the gate closed, and the guards with spears were stabbing to death the slaves who climbed through the small door, one by one, the wails of the slaves became even more desolate and desperate.
At this moment, something that frightened the slaves crawled out of the pit, and the audience fell silent for a moment. The creature was as huge as a bear, its monstrous body covered in glittering black scales, and eight hairy legs protruding from the sides of its stocky, slender body. The monster has two thick arms on its chest, and at the front of the arms are two pairs of vicious pincers.
The beast's face spanned the front half of its body, and it didn't even look like a head. Two clusters of shiny eyes shimmered like rubies, and the eyes had two large mouths surrounded by chitin shells. On the monster's back, a long, sturdy tail arched, the tail was sprumming and had a sharp barb, the tip of which also oozed venom from time to time, dripping onto the armor shell on the monster's back.
