Chapter 8: An Extraordinary Gathering
Twenty-eight bars, a card game that is not complicated.
Its rules are similar to those of Texas Hold'em, except that they are much simpler, starting with discarding all the patterned cards in a deck, leaving only forty numbered cards.
One person sits in the banker, the rest of the people sit in the player's house, each person is dealt two cards, with the mantissa ratio of the two card numbers added to the size, the pair is greater than the high card.
That is, four or six are the smallest, and double ten is the largest...... Joyce, who quickly figured out the rules of the game, sat across the "scales" and watched as the dealer pressed two cards on a Sole coin that he used as an ante.
Turning over the cards above, a square two, Joyce learned the action of the "God of Gamblers", pasted the two cards together, did not rush to turn over the second card, but looked at the action of Mr. "Balance" - that is, the dealer.
There is no interest between the players in this game, and the banker is the one who takes it all.
"You're ready to place your bets."
"Balance" flipped over and glanced at his hole cards, and said with an unchanged expression.
The man on the left mutters something and then folds his card on the table and forfeits his bet, which means that even if his hand is greater than the dealer's card in the end, he will lose his ante.
Joyce turned over the second card, a six of hearts, a total of eight points, which is already a very large hand if he did not touch a pair, and after thinking for a moment, he said:
"Plus five sures."
The movement of the coin in the hand of the "balance" paused, and seemed a little surprised: "For a newcomer, you are very courageous. ”
"Games always favor newcomers." Joyce smiled absently and said casually.
The man on the right flashed with joy after looking at the cards, and after betting on the capped one pound, he directly opened the hole cards in his hand: a pair of threes.
Seeing this, Joyce also turned over his cards, and with a wry smile on the scales, he revealed his hand: a three-three-and-three, a five-five.
It was the same eight, but six to five, so Joyce won six sucks, and the dealer only got the folded man's ante one soull, and lost a full pound and one ssoul to the smiling "pair three" classmate.
It's a game of pure luck, and of course no one cheats.
Even if the stakes are not large, there will still be big wins and losses because the time to play a game is so short.
Joyce set a rule for himself never to bet heavily, at most ten soles, or one-half of a pound, even if he had a large hand, and to fold when his hand was small.
Truth be told, this kind of play is bound to lose money, but maybe it was his luck that he won almost two pounds in the end.
Since the game was not played for a long time, the dealer did not win much, and at the end of the last game, the "balance" spoke:
"That's all for today, I'll play again another day when I have time."
The "Three Classmates" on the right, who won first and then lost, was obviously dissatisfied, but still obediently put away the rest of the money and left, until only the two of them were left in the room, and "Balance" said to Joyce:
"It's time for the party, and you can go inside."
At the suggestion of the waiter, he first put on a black cloak that was opaque, and then put on a pompous mask to cover his entire face, after which outsiders might not even be able to distinguish whether he was a man or a woman.
Extraordinary gatherings are most secretive, especially in this kind of low-end gatherings, where most of the participants have no means to hide their identities, and it is difficult to escape pursuit once they are discovered by official personnel, so this is a necessary protective measure.
It's a pity that they didn't know that the organizers of the party were informants from the military...... Joyce, hidden in his cloak, thought it was funny, and couldn't help but think of a classic saying: Our leader is actually an undercover agent sent by the enemy.
There were probably a dozen people at the party, and Joyce didn't go out of his way to count them, which would be rude and could easily be perceived as provocative.
When the number of people had ceased to increase, a tall man in the same costume walked in, sat down in the middle, and said in a loud voice:
"The party begins."
As soon as the words fell, a young female voice sounded first:
"I need a unicorn from an adult Hornachis grey goat."
Joyce sounded familiar, and he was even sure that this was the main ingredient needed for the soothsayer's path, after all, the great names of the Hornachis Mountains were no stranger.
Thinking of this, I have to sigh: The goddess is really a wolf!
Seeing that she couldn't wait, she shouldn't mind paying the premium, but unfortunately no one on the field responded, and the first deal ended without a hitch.
With the beginning of the female voice, gradually some people began to put forward their own needs, most of them needed extraordinary materials, a few needed magical items, but only a few were able to successfully close the deal.
This is the norm at parties, and it is by luck that the wild extraordinaires get the materials.
There was a hiccup in the middle of the deal, when someone shouted for the "Apothecary's" potion recipe, which silenced the scene.
The crowd was silent for a long time, and the tall organizer who came in at last chuckled twice, half mocking and half admonishing:
"I can give you ten, if only you can tell the truth from the fake."
A few low chuckles rang out, and the man who was looking for the recipe stopped talking.
Fortunately, with a disguise, otherwise the society would have died...... Seeing that the frequency of everyone's transactions was gradually decreasing, Joyce asked:
"I want to know how to awaken forgotten memories."
The crowd was silent again, and just as he was about to give up, a male voice said:
"You can pray to the gods you believe in, five pounds, and I can teach you the ritual of supplication."
What's the difference between that and turning yourself in? Joyce, who said he didn't want to be killed by lightning yet, nodded to the man and said:
"Is there any other way to close the deal?"
"As far as I know, the extraordinary people of the audience path can do this, but there is no guarantee of success." It was the first female voice to speak.
"Thank you." Joyce asked, "What do you need?" ”
"Help me keep an eye out for the unicorn crystals of an adult Hornachis grey goat."
"Okay."
At this time, the waiter passed the prayer that the man had written, and Joyce gave him a brief glance, took out five pounds, and handed them over.
Without a pause, he continued:
"In addition, the long-term acquisition of antiquities from the Quaternary period is best the kind that is easy to carry."
"Is it okay if you don't have extraordinary powers?" Or the lady who seems to be a soothsayer.
"Yes."
"I have a relic from Solomon's Empire...... You know the Solomonic Empire, right? ”
This is to treat me as illiterate, history is a compulsory subject for an aristocracy, not to mention that I still crossed over and knew much more history than you...... Joyce sneered in her heart, and said quietly: "I know something." ”
"That's good." The female voice continued: "It is a ring set with precious stones, and the workmanship is not very beautiful, but it is so strong that it can even be used to smash walnuts. ”
"Fifteen pounds, it's yours."
Fifteen pounds isn't expensive, but how do you know that you can smash walnuts, could it be that you have tried it yourself...... Joyce thought for a moment and responded:
"I need to see the physical item to decide if I want to buy it."
The female voice agreed to this request:
"It makes sense, I'll bring it at the next party, and if you have a unicorn of an adult Honachis grey goat, I can give it to you as a giveaway."
Joyce nodded slightly, "I'll keep an eye on it." ”
The party drew to a close, and at the end, the organizer at the top of the table said, "The rules remain the same, if you want to know the time of the next week's party, go to the Oak Bar and buy a Burnzi and a Vados." ”
Buy two glasses of wine to tell you the time of the party? What is this operation, the initiation fee?
No one present questioned it, apparently knowing the rule, and leaving in batches under the arrangement of the party organizers, Joyce was the first to leave.
After everyone had left, Mr. "Balance" lifted his cloak and muttered:
"What the hell is this Mr. Baron going to do? Should I report to the authorities? ”
