Chapter 9: The Tomb
"Blue Town Street arrived, and the passengers who arrived at the station got off. β
Following the passengers in front of him, Dior made his way down the platform and walked north along the street.
After walking for more than ten minutes, Dior saw the houses on the side of the road begin to thin out, and a little further on, the picture of flat farmland replacing modern city streets appeared in front of him, and at the end of the view, the blue-black outline of the mountains undulated along the horizon, like a sleeping black bear.
This is the Mannheim Hill, named after the Mannheim family, the former owners, and this is exactly the area where Dior aims today.
Walking to the edge of the field, the crops were growing so well that the ground was as lush as a huge green carpet that was taller than Dior's neck, so that he could stand on his feet to make out the path leading to the Mannheim hills.
He looked around, and soon found a rather shabby-looking shop, pΓΉ, and walked in, and when he came out, he had an extra shovel, a mining lamp with about a third of the oil, and a burlap bag, all half-used and not new, of course, and the price for these three things was that he had almost emptied the money in his pocket, and only the fare was left to go back.
After walking along the road in the field for more than half an hour, a small river appeared in front of Dior, and on the opposite side of the river was a dense forest - it belonged to the foot of the Mannheim Mountain, and a stone bridge connected the banks on both sides, and some ducks were swimming on the mirror-like surface of the river, and the small fish swimming on the surface of the water were clearly visible.
After crossing the stone bridge and walking into the forest, the temperature was obviously much cooler, and from here he needed to start looking for it, he only remembered a general location of the target, but fortunately there was a very conspicuous coordinate on its side, as long as he found this coordinate object, then the target he wanted to find was not far away, and he still knew the general direction there.
After another half an hour of walking in the woods, he took a moment to climb a small hill and stand at the top of the slope and look ahead.
Deep in the dark green woods, on a higher slope nestled next to the main body of the Mannheim Mountains, a ruined castle is clearly visible, and although the vines and shrubs have been erased from human existence, the only remaining buildings still evoke the majesty of the past.
This is the ancestral home of the Mannheim family, but when the family dies out, no amount of majestic architecture can resist the erosion of time and nature.
"There it was, it was a large manor, the castle was in the center of the manor, and the mausoleum was in the area northwest of the castle......"
Dio looked at the glorious building, his face showed a hint of excitement, and his spirit was also lifted accordingly, and he walked quickly along the slope towards the castle with his hands and feet.
......
Bang la blah.
The bushes shook violently, and then a gray shadow sprang out, scurrying into the distance, a hare startled by Dio's movements.
Dior, who was also taken aback, smiled self-deprecatingly and said to himself: "It looks very good here, the rabbits are so fat, and there are many of them, you can come to hunt and play in the future." β
At this time, he was standing on the edge of a building that looked like a watchtower, and the main building of the castle was not far in front of him, and he could feel the majesty of the castle when it was first in use.
The whole castle has five spires, showing a five-pointed star-shaped layout that was very popular hundreds of years ago, and each tip has a platform, connected to each other by steel suspension bridges, and now Dior can see only a dark green patch, but it has not been broken until now, which is enough to show how strong and solid the original construction was.
Seeing the building in front of him, Dior had the urge to go in and admire it, knowing that the castle and the surrounding area would be bought by an unknown rich man in a few years and turned into private property, and then he would not be able to come and go as he thinks now.
However, he was very aware of the purpose of his trip, and his time was quite tight, so this idea was quickly swept into the corner of his mind by reason, and by the way, he comforted himself a few times, "At most, I will buy this place in the future, and I can play as much as I want", and then walked around the castle and headed towards the rear.
There is an iron fence around the castle, which is dilapidated, but it still barely separates the castle from the mountains in the distance, with deep dense forest on the outside and low bushes on the inside, which can be seen as a flat lawn.
Dio walked cautiously in the bushes, where the grass was knee-deep, and this was a place where snakes and insects liked to stay, and he didn't want to be bitten by poisonous snakes. But fortunately, his kind of mental sensing ability seems to be magnified a lot in this kind of uninhabited mountain forest, it is estimated that there is less interference caused by the concentration of population in the city, as long as he is slow and careful, he can sense it before the snake and insect approach, plus he carries the shovel upside down as a stick to pull the grass, so he saves a lot of trouble.
After rounding a small dirt slope, Dior finally saw his final destination, a place that resembled the ruins of a house.
It was later thought that it was supposed to be a shrine, but it seems that the gods did not have time to manage the place that nominally belonged to it, because now only two walls were left to nestle together at right angles, and the rest of the building was gone.
This provided a lot of convenience for Dior, and he walked around the wall for a while to determine the approximate location.
"This is where the stone bowl is...... A little further there...... Three steps, left-hand side...... This should be the place, so start here!"
Dio put his belongings aside, picked up his shovel and dug into the ground.
After digging for a few minutes, Dio felt the shovel in his hand hit a hard object, and suddenly he screamed, quickly stopped digging, crouched down, and reached out to push aside the dirt in the shallow pit dug out, and a rusty metal ring appeared in his field of vision.
The ring was black and red, dragging a chain that looked the same material, the other end of which was still buried in the dirt beneath.
"Sure enough. β
Seeing this, Dior's spirit suddenly perked, what he knew was a tomb that had been dug up by others and lost its value, it turned out that he didn't know what this tomb was, he was ready to try a few more positions, but he didn't expect that today's luck was really good, and he succeeded directly.
Excited, Dior continued to work, and with a definite location, the excavation below went much easier, and soon he dug up all the layers of soil around the ring, revealing a thick slate underneath, on which the other end of the chain was fastened.
Tossing the shovel aside, Dio grabbed the ring with both hands and lifted it up with all his might, and with a bang, he pulled the whole slate up, and a large cloud of ash fell downwards into the black hollow that was revealed.
He took the oil lamp, lit it, put it at the mouth of the cave, and looked down.
Below is a short staircase, followed by a passage that allows one person to enter and exit, not long, about five or six meters, and behind it is a dark room, where the burial chamber is located.
"Hehe, I found it. β
Dio sat on the ground, ready to rest for a while. Because this kind of tomb has been in a closed condition for a long time, the air inside has long been polluted, and it must be circulated with the outside air first, and the exhaust gas inside can be dispersed, so that it can be safe after entering.
After a while, Dior estimated that the exhaust should have almost dissipated - after all, it was only a very small tomb, and he picked up the oil lamp and walked slowly down the stone steps.
Descending into the corridor, Dior first stopped and stared at the oil lamp for a while, and found that the fire inside showed no obvious signs of going out or darkening and becoming smaller, so he continued to walk in with peace of mind.
When he walked into the tomb, the first thing he saw was the sarcophagus placed in the center and a two-handed cross sword displayed on the sarcophagus, which proved the identity of the owner of the sarcophagus, which was a knight of high status.
Dio looked at the sarcophagus and prayed in a low voice, not touching the weapon that seemed to be valuable at first glance. He didn't come here to disturb the peace of the dead, but he needed some small and moderately valuable possessions, which were too expensive to handle.
After praying, he held up the oil lamp and looked around the chamber before resting on the nearby crypt.
The burial cellar is shallow, divided into several compartments from top to bottom, each of which contains a burial object.
He walked over, looked closely, and took out the dagger, the crystal rattle, and the Knight's Oath Codex from different compartments.
The short sword is simple in style, with a scabbard, the condition is very good, and it can even be pulled out and used; the crystal rattle is a purely decorative handicraft, because of the material, as long as the dust and cobwebs on it are erased, it becomes as bright as new; as for the knight's oath code, it is the book that the knight pressed when he swore allegiance to the lord in the past, and now the book in his hand is made of parchment, and has undergone special treatment, so it is very well preserved and has a certain historical value.
These three things are not worth much or low, and they are all the most suitable for the current Dior, and it can be said that his harvest today has exceeded expectations.
He put the three items in an old cloth bag and turned back and walked outside, and he didn't want to take the rest of the items.
As he walked to the entrance of the tomb, he suddenly heard a small voice from a short distance in the direction of the castle.
Dior was stunned for a moment, it stands to reason that the barren mountains and mountains here, especially the ruins of this castle, even Orions rarely come here, and it is generally difficult to meet other people.
At this moment, he suddenly noticed that the sound was extending in his direction, so he immediately reacted, extinguished the oil lamp, and moved lightly behind the wall stretched out from the shrine to see who it was.
