Chapter 82: Hero
Father Martin held back the sobs and continued to speak to Tom:
"I have been in ascetic practice at home for two weeks, and for two weeks I have not eaten or drunk, probably because God favored me and I did not die."
"I see, the Lord wanted me to save those children, so He didn't let me die."
"I decided to get back on the road to saving children,"
"It was then that I met your mother, the generous and wealthy Mrs. Smith."
Father Martin talked about Tom's mother, and subconsciously made Tom want to see what the man who was crying behind him was going to continue to say.
Tom wanted to give the man the least respect — watching the other person talk, especially in a conversation like this.
But Tom held back, and now he couldn't afford to fall short.
Tom had to get Father Martin, a man of tenacity, to break through his own psychological defenses.
"Your mother started funding many churches, but I am the only one who really gives the money back to every child of the Lord."
"It was then that I realized why Allah did not take me during those two weeks, because it required me to cooperate with Mrs. Smith to save the children."
"With Mrs. Smith's help, there are now hundreds of orphans in the church that I have rescued from farms all over the world."
"The Lord will always protect you, the Smiths."
"Shelter the kind and benevolent Smith family."
Father Martin tapped his hands on his shoulders in turn, drawing a false cross, and uttering this blessing to the Smith family.
"At the same time, I have heard Mrs. Smith pray several times in the church, asking the Lord to protect you and let me know that you are the head of the Smith family."
"There's no way Mrs. Smith could use a lot of money to adopt a large number of orphans."
"I also went to learn about the Hero company in Texas."
"I just realized how great you are."
"You can make defeated Texas strong again in a year's time."
"Let a large number of displaced people have jobs and support their families."
"Even if Texas is in turmoil caused by external forces, and a large number of employees are unemployed, you are still providing food for every unemployed worker without compensation when there is no governor in Texas and the state government is in chaos."
"After the establishment of the NSW government, you announced the full resumption of work as soon as possible, although the new job pay is very low, but at least the unemployed employees have a livelihood."
"You're a true hero of Texas."
"I just want to ask you what can be done to make these orphans have a stable place to live and grow up steadily."
As he spoke, Father Martin saw that Tom was indifferent, and finally slowly knelt down on one knee and pleaded with Tom thoroughly.
"The Lord sent you down in Texas and made your fortune after the Civil War,"
"You have risen in the most miserable of times in America, and the Lord must have sent you to save us."
"I beg you, Mr. Smith, tell me how to make hundreds of thousands of special employees in Texas and even the United States have a peaceful childhood!"
Tom turned to look at Father Martin, kneeling on one knee, with his chin pressed against his chest, burying his head as low as he could.
With the highest respect, Father Martin longed for the true "benefactor" of hundreds of orphans.
Crying out for a savior who might save orphans across the United States.
As soon as Tom saw Father Martin's move, he knew that the time had come.
A person who has truly seen the darkness of religion and can still struggle for the cause of religion must not be because of religion.
Tom knew that Father Martin's spiritual sustenance had long since changed from religion to countless suffering children.
Tom now strangles Father Martin's soft underbelly – the orphan's future.
It was precisely because Father Martin had learned about the HERO Company through Penny that he knew about the capabilities of the HERO Company, that he was so eager for Tom's help.
And Tom's sentence that it is okay to change the priest casually and raise children who do not work will lead to the bankruptcy of the hero company, completely strangled Father Martin's last vestige.
In Father Martin's worldview, he is the only priest who will be good to orphans, and he cannot be replaced.
And Tom is the only person Father Martin knows who has the ability, the strength, and the financial means to help the orphans.
Father Martin had to plead with Tom.
He had nowhere to go but to beg Tom.
The other roads were blocked in advance by Tom in a few words.
"Heads up, Father Martin, you are my mother's friend, and of course I have a solution to the problem of these orphans."
Father Martin slowly raised his head, and he looked at the savior of the Texas orphan in front of him, wanting to hear what the "gold master" could do.
Seconds after Father Martin looked up, the sun had completely set, and Tom's office was plunged into total darkness.
In order to give more money to the children, Father Martin had been suffering from chronic malnutrition and night blindness.
Tom in Father Martin's eyes has also changed from a "gold lord" illuminated by the afterglow of the sunset to a dark shadow that cannot be seen clearly.
Tom picked up Father Martin, and by his familiarity with the office, he found the place where the kerosene lamp was placed and turned it on.
Father Martin's eyes were reopened.
Tom pulled out a thick book and handed it to Father Martin.
"That's how I solved it."
Father Martin looked at the cover of the book, which read the simple word "hero", and asked, somewhat puzzled:
"Mr. Smith... This is? ”
"It's just a book, and it will become a children's enlightenment book for the HERO orphanage."
"Initiation books for children? It's good to let children read, but what does it have to do with child labor? ”
"If you don't use special small employees, just raising a large number of orphans, it's okay in the short term, and in a few years the hero company will go bankrupt because of these children, right?"
"After listening to your explanation, I understand your difficulties."
"So, if these children are trained to be useful and valuable talents for the HERO company in the future, isn't the money from the orphanage a lucrative investment? Isn't it possible for HERO to invest a lot of money without worrying about bankruptcy in the future? ”
"Mr. Smith, do you mean that this children's enlightenment textbook can make children useful to HERO in the future, and then HERO is willing to pay for these children?"
Tom didn't answer the question, just looked kindly at the excited Father Martin.
Father Martin began to flip through the children's book entitled "HERO".
Father Martin wants to see what this "new Bible" is supposed to save orphans in Texas and all of America.
The more I watched, the more frightened Father Martin became.
The book is full of dissatisfaction with the existing social system, a distorted interpretation of God, the Greater Texas Mind......
It's full of all sorts of little fairy tales and fables, all of which are basically in the most straightforward way to warn readers to be loyal to Texas.
Loyal only to Texas.
Not just disloyalty to the federal government of the United States, but outright hatred of the rest of the world.
