Chapter 16: Walking in the Spirit Realm
The door closed behind him, blocking out the hollow gaze of the goat's head.
But Duncan could still clearly perceive the Lost Country, perceiving every subtle movement on the ghost ship—in that limb extension-like empathy, he "saw" a series of sails of the Lost Country finely angled in the sea breeze, and the black steering wheel on the aft bridge turned slightly, further stabilizing the Lost Country in the waves.
As he expected, Goathead temporarily took over the rudder and began to conscientiously perform his duties as first mate - but Duncan could still take over the ship himself at any time.
Compared to when he was directly at the helm, the Lost Country was a little weaker in terms of flexibility and speed, but now Duncan's main purpose was to further dispel the fog on the chart, and there was no clear goal and route, so he didn't care about this effect.
After making sure that nothing had happened to the goat's head and that the goth doll below deck was honestly in the room, Duncan breathed a sigh of relief and glanced at the not-so-large room.
This was his captain's private quarters, and the most comfortable and elaborate room on the Lost Country, except for a soft bed, a large classical wardrobe and a shelf with many strange objects against the wall opposite the door, and a dark brown desk opposite the bed, except for a few furnishings and tools for writing and drawing.
Next to the desk was a window that looked directly out into the ocean beyond, and there were hooks on the wall next to the window—the pirate sword Duncan now carried with him, as well as the flintlock pistol, were hanging from before that.
Duncan went to his desk, put his sword and flintlock pistol in hand, opened the desk drawer, and examined the gunpowder and lead bullet in the wooden box.
A small brass compass was placed next to the bullet and powder bag, and Duncan picked it up and saw that the hands under the glass case were still spinning wildly, as if they had been being pulled by an invisible chaotic force field, and at the bottom of the compass was inscribed a small line of text—
"We are all landless".
Duncan casually held the compass in his hand and played with it, watching the hands on it spin around as if he were drunk.
He'd checked everything here many times, and he had discovered the room during his initial exploration, and everything here, including the message, must have been left behind by the real Captain Duncan.
After reviewing the information he had so far, Duncan exhaled, casually placed the compass on the table, and raised his right hand to gently rub his fingertips.
A small green flame ignited at his fingertips, and under the reflection of the flames, half of Duncan's palms immediately took on a transparent and illusory texture like a spirit - but under conscious control, the flame did not spread around like before, but hovered above his fingers like a candle.
After the flame stabilized, Duncan approached the flame with his other hand to feel it, then took a quill from the side and touched the flame with the end of the pen.
There was no heat, no quills were ignited, only a little shade of shade spread over the barrel, giving the quills a faint glow.
Duncan, on the other hand, did not "feel" any feedback from the quill, unlike when he touched the charts and rudders with flames.
Duncan silently jotted down new experiences in his mind - the "spirit fire" had no temperature and would not ignite things, and it would most likely only be associated with the "anomalous" things on the Lost Land, and would not have any feedback on ordinary things.
So if it's something "anomalous" from outside of the Lost Country...... Will this flame react?
Duncan pondered, and for a moment, the figure of a goth puppet suddenly appeared in his mind, Alice, as if it was an "anomaly" from outside the Lost Country?
Will she be affected by this spirit fire?
But he thought about it for a moment, and then threw the boundless thought aside.
Because even if Alice is not human, even if she is a cursed "Anomaly 099", she is also an independent individual who can speak and walk, has her own thoughts, and is now the "crew" of the Lost Homeland, Duncan has subconsciously regarded her as a "human".
He couldn't accept testing his own flames with a living person - after all, he wasn't sure what the flames would have a profound effect on the affected "anomalies", and whether they were harmful or not.
Duncan then tested it a few more times, checking the nature of the flames and determining whether there were otherworldly properties behind the various things in the dormitory.
Finally, his gaze finally fell on the small brass compass with a "message".
The brass compass lay quietly on the table, the hands under the glass case spinning wildly, but I don't know if it was an illusion, and when Duncan kept the flame and landed his "ill-intentioned" gaze on the hands, the hands seemed to freeze for a moment.
Then continue to spin around as if nothing happened.
Duncan: "......"
This thing definitely reacted to his gaze just now!
Originally, he was a little afraid of this compass, after all, it had the words left by "real Captain Duncan", and he was worried about whether the dead ghost captain had left some kind of power or "trap" on this belongings to prevent thieves, so he never tested the compass with flames, but after seeing the reaction of the compass, he suddenly made up his mind.
Duncan reached out and picked up the compass, the cold touch reached his fingertips, and after glancing at the hands that were still spinning wildly, he placed the thing directly into his right hand, which was used to maintain the spirit fire, and slowly gripped it.
The dark green flame flowed like burning grease in an instant, spreading between his fingers, and the surface of the compass quickly ignited a ghostly firelight, and countless phantoms seemed to rise and fall in the firelight, and the next moment, the pointer that was spinning wildly suddenly stopped, and pointed straight to a certain direction in the vast sea.
Duncan's heart moved, and at this moment, he clearly felt the "feedback" from the compass, and confirmed that this was indeed an "anomalous object" that could be controlled by the fire of the spirit, but before he could carefully perceive the details in this feedback, a sudden "gravitational force" suddenly struck!
Duncan only felt his body shake for a moment, and the next second, the furnishings in the captain's bedroom had turned into nothingness, and even the surrounding walls and roofs disintegrated like snowflakes in the blink of an eye, and in the scattered light and shadow, the boundless darkness filled his vision.
Duncan stood in the dim center in his astonishment, his mind ringing with alarm bells, and his first instinct was to reach for the musket and saber that lay beside him, but the next second he found that all that was left of him was the brass compass, which was still clutched in his hand.
Duncan blinked, and in his gaze, an innumerable, stranded light suddenly filled the area around the brass compass.
These rays of light spread and intertwine in the darkness, as if they were infinitely expanding like a web, and between the interweaving of lights, there were countless dots of light emerging, some of these rays drifted sporadically, some converged like rivers, and in the background of the intertwined network of rays, they were as brilliant as a galaxy.
Duncan looked at the vision in front of him with some confusion, he was wary and a little uneasy, but for some reason, he didn't feel any sense of crisis, or even ......
Between the dim web of light and the stars, he felt a sense of peace and comfort that he had not felt for a long time.
In the next second, a strange feeling suddenly came, Duncan's eyes were involuntarily attracted by a cluster of starlight intertwined in the network of light, he looked at the cluster of starlight, only to feel that the starlight was crumbling, as if it was about to fall into darkness completely.
He subconsciously reached out to the starlight.
A huge pull came at this moment—Duncan felt as if his soul was flying, and he involuntarily rushed towards the starlight that was about to fall into darkness, and the dense network of light interwoven by the compass quickly retreated in his sight, and the surrounding galaxy formed by the starlight suddenly began to spin and creep!
In the rapid flying, he subconsciously looked at his right hand holding the compass, but saw that the compass had disappeared for some time, and at the same time, just before he was about to touch the faint starlight, he saw a shadow suddenly condense in the darkness in the corner of his eye.
The shadow seemed to be with him all the time, and it flew with him towards the dim point of light.
Duncan could only vaguely see that the shadow seemed to be a bird with wings spread, and before he could see the details, his eyes went dark.
A heavy touch from the real world came from the limbs, along with the stench of some kind of rotting limbs and the harsh sound of heavy chains mopping the floor.
(Oh yes!) )
