Chapter 18 Sewers

Before leaving the cave where he was temporarily hiding, Duncan pulled some rags from the nearby corpses and wrapped them around himself.

This is not because I can't stand the cold in the cave, but because it is to more or less block my open heart - although the hole in his chest has not affected Duncan's "survival" at all, as a normal person in his bones, walking around in a cold situation is really too evil thing, and putting something on his body can at least bring a little comfort to his heart, and can also reduce some of the weird touches caused by "wearing the hall".

Duncan also considered the possibility of bumping into other people while walking around the underground space - it was common sense to assume that a large hole in his chest might not be conducive to talking to strangers......

In this way, after briefly treating the "wound", Duncan carefully left the gloomy and damp cavern, and he entered a passage connected to the cave, and slowly walked into the depths.

This temporarily occupied body is not "convenient", not only because the fatal damage to the chest affects the flexibility of movement, but also because Duncan can clearly feel the weakness of this body, the too thin hands and feet can not even walk fast, and the "ghost captain" is so strong that it is obviously beyond the mortal body at all.

Duncan couldn't see the full picture of his current body, but judging only from the parts he could see, he guessed that it should be a young man, a teenager who was weakened by chronic severe malnutrition - although it was the soul of a powerful ghost captain who was manipulating this body at the moment, it seemed that the strength of the soul level could not break through the physical limits of this weak body.

It's a pity that there is no choice now, Duncan can only control this almost barely usable body to slowly explore in the deep corridor, he knows that with this temporary state of the body, he may be helpless in any crisis, so he can only pray that this body can be used for a while longer.

The tunnel is deep, damp and dark, but there seems to be a hidden vent, a slight air flow has been flowing nearby, and at regular intervals, torches or oil lamps can be seen hanging on the wall, the presence of which proves that there is always human activity here.

After walking a long distance along the road, Duncan suddenly noticed that the road ahead of him suddenly opened up, and man-made traces began to appear in his sight—he saw a fork in the road at the end of the road, which connected the road with flat walls and high semicircular vaults, the brick-paved ground was dark and damp, and two waterways flowed along the sides of the ground, in which disgusting sewage flowed.

Drain-like openings can also be seen on the walls on both sides of the road, and sewage flows out of some of these outlets, which is poured into the waterways below, flowing into the darker distances.

“…… Sewer? ”

Duncan quickly realized that what he was looking for was clearly some kind of sewer system of considerable size, and that the place where many of the bodies had been hidden before was like a natural cave structure that was connected to the sewers.

Massive sewers, natural caverns connected to sewers, and hidden remains.

Countless conjectures popped up in Duncan's mind for a moment, and while many speculations popped up in his mind, he was also carefully observing the details of the "sewer" in front of him.

Large-scale and well-constructed, the main support appears to be made of reinforced concrete, which may even be sufficient to serve as some kind of underground bunker if necessary.

To be able to build something of this magnitude, the city above the sewers must be on a large scale, and the technology must have developed to a certain level.

Technology cannot exist in isolation, and behind every engineering product must be the simultaneous support of countless related industries and technologies, even if it is just a sewer, it can also reveal to Duncan the construction, planning, materials, maintenance level, and the corresponding residents' living concepts.

This is enough for Duncan, who is currently severely lacking in intelligence, to obtain some valuable information from the civilized world.

Duncan walked down the sewers, stopping a short distance before his gaze fell on a nearby wall.

The wall was embedded with a lamp—a glass-encased lamp with a sturdy-looking metal cage on the outside.

The lamp embedded in the walls was noticeably brighter than the torches and oil lamps in the cave before, and inside the frosted glass case was a bright flame that burned steadily, glowing enough to illuminate a considerable distance in the sewers.

Duncan leaned in and took a closer look, for him now, everything that came from outside the Lost Country, especially the creations of modern civilization, was extremely attractive.

After observing for a long time, Duncan finally figured out what the light source in front of him was—it was a gas lamp.

But the gas lamp seemed to be different from what he had seen in the materials, except for the difference in style, the most obvious being that he saw several slender symbols on the glass cover of the lamp case.

The symbols seemed to have been added at the beginning of the production of the lamp shells, curling in a hieroglyphic posture, which Duncan did not recognize, but he immediately remembered the mysterious runes he had seen on the mechanical ship and on Alice's "coffin".

Although the content is different, they all have a similar ...... "temperament".

It was something sacred, ritualistic.

Duncan stepped back a bit, looking deeper into the sewers and seeing a glowing gas lamp on the wall at intervals.

As an underground facility that is rarely visited by anyone other than necessary maintenance, the lighting in this sewer even seems a little excessive, and the shell of each gas lamp may have similar mysterious "runes".

This gave Duncan a feeling as if these densely distributed gas lamps were actually fighting against something under this unvisited darkness - the "human civilized world" behind them was fighting against something.

Duncan walked along the path illuminated by the gas lamp, keeping his eyes on any valuable clues that appeared on the surrounding walls, floors, and vaults, when suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, something strange was noticed.

He paused between the two gas lamps, which were the darker sections of the sewers, and he looked up diagonally to see something painted with dark red paint high up in the wall, near the vault of the sewer.

Duncan narrowed his eyes and tried to distinguish them for a long time, until he finally saw the picture outlined by the rough lines—he saw a pair of hands reaching out to the sky, as if in worship of something, and in the direction of those hands hung a sphere of radiant light.

Beneath this picture of worship and clustering, there is a line of crooked words, the brushstrokes of the words are shaking, as if containing strong fanaticism and expectation, the letters on it are not any kind of writing on earth, but Duncan naturally understands-

"The false sun will fall, and the true sun god will rise from blood and fire! The vitality of all things is attributed to the sun, and the order of all things is attributed to the sun! ”

Duncan stood silently in the sewers, looking up at the junction where the Navas lamp was most dimly lit, at the dark red graffiti, at the blood-soaked sun, radiant and adored by men.

It's as if you're looking at another world for a long time.

He watched like this for a long time, until a sudden noise came from the depths of the sewers, and several footsteps reached Duncan's ears.

He jerked his head up in the direction from which the voice had come, only to see several burqa-clad figures approaching from the front, their heads and faces shrouded in the shadow of their hoods, appearing like eerie ghosts in the depths of the filthy sewers.

Duncan didn't hide—in fact, there was almost no hiding place in the straight sewer, and his immobile temporary body couldn't do high-end operations such as "blind spot running", so after a brief thought, he simply stood in the middle of the sewer with a big grin, and looked very calmly at the hooded men who were coming from the front, and they were very suspicious no matter how they looked at it.

Since this body can't run away, it is destined to be a one-time consumable, so it is better to change a little information at the end.

In the next second, the hooded men who came out of the depths of the sewers noticed Duncan's presence.

(Oh yes!) )
