CHAPTER XVI
Siegel plucked a clump of underland and used it as a torch to walk in first, followed by his little thumb. The path is paved with cobblestone and winds its way underground. The two of them didn't know how deep they were from the ground, and there weren't any trees around them that could penetrate the roots of the soil, so they guessed they were already very deep into the ground. After walking for about ten minutes, the trail finally came to an end, and they saw that the passage was blocked by a gate that emitted a yellowish light from the back of the gate.
The oil lamps were extinguished at this time, and only a few Dilans were left in Siegel's hand, so the two men each took a small handful. They approached the door and took a closer look, only to realize that it was actually the backsplash of a closet, and that light was shining through the underneath of the closet.
The two men held their breath and kept their ears close to the closet, only to hear something talking on the other side. The sound was mixed with a lot of nasal and plosive sounds, and occasionally a severe grinding sound, which Siegel didn't understand at all.
However, the little thumb's face turned pale, and he clutched the bluegrass in his hand tightly.
Thankfully, after a while, the voice was gone, and along with the light under the closet. Little Thumb didn't dare to act at this time, he touched the plank, I don't know what mechanism was twisted, the plank clicked open, forming a small door.
There was not a single garment in the closet, the cabinet door was ajar, and a large pile of thick cobwebs filled the closet. Siegel swept away the cobwebs and was the first to jump in.
It was originally a bedroom, but it was built underground for some unknown reason, surrounded by cold stone walls, with no exit except for a rotten wooden door.
Judging from the remaining debris on the ground, there was once a large bed here, which is the main reason why the two people judged that this was a bedroom. Next to the wardrobe is a dresser with only one leg left, and the bronze mirror has long been rusted and completely non-reflective. The chandelier on the ceiling had broken to pieces on the floor, and the remaining wax was dripping to the ground. There was a thick layer of dust throughout the room, and there were two rows of huge footprints on the floor.
All that was left of the dresser's drawer was a pair of pearl earrings in the corner, which naturally went into the pocket.
Outside the gate was a long hallway, and the long carpet that had been laid on the floor had been crumpled up and discarded like garbage. There are candlesticks hanging on the walls, but there is no light at all. The two of them walked out holding the glowing bluegrass and stepping on the footprints on the ground.
The room with the secret door is in the innermost part of the corridor, and the corridor more than 20 meters long is actually the only room. On the walls on both sides, there are carved aphorisms such as "anger only brings harm" and "compassion and mercy are the greatest virtues".
At the end of the corridor is a spiral staircase that leads up to no known direction. One side of the wall collapsed, revealing a large hole. The malt pointed out to Siegel that the stairs were clean and the footprints were extending in the direction of the big hole.
"Where should we go next?" Siegel asked.
"The treasure is upstairs. So the two men immediately determined the direction.
Above the spiral staircase is a sliding door that opens with a slight pull of the chain. Then Siegel and Malt climbed up and found that they had returned to the surface, which was a huge study. The room is lavishly decorated, with the sun logo carved into the ceiling, a tall statue sitting on one side of the room, and a sliding door opening from behind the statue.
The house was empty, but everything was neat and tidy, and it looked like someone was in charge of cleaning. The floor was covered with a thick woolen blanket and some soft, thick cushions. The walls on each side open with three large floor-to-ceiling windows, decorated with transparent stained glass. The windowless walls are lined with large bookcases and storage cabinets with beautiful items.
A large desk is in front of the statue, all black, with one leg red. Little Thumb crawled straight under the desk, fiddled with it for a long time, and finally opened a dark compartment.
There was a large roll of paper inside, and I opened it with my little thumb and looked at it, and then said happily, "Found it." ”
Siegel had been observing the room, and he noticed that the figures in the room were familiar, and the badge on the wall seemed to be seen somewhere. He walked over to the window and looked out, and found himself in the inner city of Fort Hub, where Viscount Kira lived.
So the squid grabbed his little thumb and asked, "Actually, this is not your family's treasure room, is it?"
Little Thumb was not in a hurry, shook the scroll in his hand, shook it open, and showed it to the squid: "Come and see what is written here?"
Siegel tilted his head to read it, and saw that it was a pedigree certificate to prove the lineage and inheritance rights of a man named "Lemain-Stadter". This certificate is followed by a portrait, a family tree chart, and a will.
"With these things, this is my treasure room. Little Thumb pulled his hand back and said, "Alright, let's go." ”
The two men crept back the way they came, descending the sliding door behind the statue to the spiral staircase. They hadn't taken two steps when they suddenly heard footsteps beneath them, accompanied by the language of "nasal, grinding and plosive" sounds. A hideous, large shadow slowly protruded from the hole at the bottom of the staircase and stretched across the opposite wall.
The two of them hurriedly stuffed the glowing bluegrass in their hands under their clothes and pressed it tightly. Siegel felt nervous, he instinctively felt that it wasn't going to be a good thing, so he put his hand on the hilt of the scimitar.
The shadows grew louder and louder, and the footsteps became clearer. Soon, the owner of the shadow came out of the hole. It was a sturdy giant more than two meters tall, with many raised sarcomas on the top of its bare head, yellow-brown skin with weed-like body hair, and strong arms that almost hung to the ground.
The monster's fangs protruded, and its mouth grinned almost to the base of its ears. It is this mouth that constantly makes strange noises that make people feel annoying.
With a lantern in one hand and a mace in the other, the monster swore and entered the long hallway. Siegel and the others waited a little longer, and sure enough, the monster returned, burrowed into the hole and left.
It's a good thing the guy hasn't looked up.
"Do you know what kind of monster that is?" asked Siegel.
"It's a trolls. Little Thumb looked a little stiff and said unnaturally.
Seegal thought he was frightened, and didn't ask much, escorted him out of the secret passage, and climbed up the well again. Malt told Siegel to keep it a secret, and gave him one of the earrings. Siegel didn't want it, because he had promised not to divide the treasure.
"Well, it's not a treasure divide, it's a gift from me. Little Thumb shoved one of the earrings over and said, "Are you my friend?"
"Uh...... I think it's okay. Siegel scratched his head and said, "If you forgive me for almost hitting you, then we're friends." ”
"I think sometimes you're stingy!" said goodbye to Siegel with a wave of his hand, carrying a sack with a teapot on his back, "Remember, don't say anything about the pedigree certificate!"
The two men were separated, and Siegel led the foal back to the inn. As a result, not only were Sir Bill and Master Leah absent, but even Jeff did not return. All night Siegel was thinking about that trolls, making him sleep badly. He didn't understand why the trolls were there, or why the guy was always on patrol. Does the Viscount of Fort of the Hub know that evil creatures are hiding beneath his castle?
He had wanted to report his findings to Viscount Kira, but he couldn't figure out how to explain how he discovered the troll. But it happened that there was no one to discuss now, so Siegel could only toss and turn, and almost did not sleep all night.
At dawn the next day, the lad made up his mind. He left a letter on the table stating the location and circumstances of the discovery of the troll, and then armed himself to visit the cave again. If he didn't find out what the trolls were up to, he wouldn't be at ease.
He re-entered the chambers beneath the castle through the secret passages, the lifeless environment was suffocating, and the thought of an trolls appearing at any moment made Siegel very nervous. He tiptoed around the corner of the wall, illuminated by the firefly moss pinned to his wrist. Of the several luminescent plants that can be found, firefly moss is the darkest.
After digging into the large broken hole in the wall, he discovered that it was a natural cavern, with an underground river running through it. The river is more than two meters wide, there are no fish or aquatic plants in it, and the current is very fast but not deep, and it can only drown your knees. Fearing that he would make too much noise by jumping over, Siegel took off his shoes and rolled up his trousers to wade across the river. The water was unusually cold, but Siegel didn't care.
After crossing the creek, the cave continued downward, and an unusual stench grew stronger. On both sides of the pit, you can find some discarded things, mostly food debris and other garbage. Some little rats are crawling through the garbage, looking at the uninvited guests with their tiny yellow eyes. The naturally formed cave was re-built into a stone wall at a bend in front, where a faint light emanated.
As he poked his head out of the corner, Siegel felt a breeze with an even stronger stench. A dying bonfire was in the middle of the room, with a pot on top of it, emitting a stench of burning, and two huge trolls were sleeping next to it.
The floor was a mess, and there was little room for footholding. Siegel saw chicken feathers, trampled tomatoes and potatoes, and a pile of overturned wine bottles empty. On the walls of the room hung many wooden shields, and under them were several large wine barrels with the logo of "Job's house" written on them. Several huge two-handed swords were casually thrown next to the barrel. The sword was poorly maintained, and it was covered in rust, but the trolls didn't care, they relied more on their own strength than on martial arts.
There was a rumbling sound overhead, and a shield on the wall was knocked aside, revealing the sloping passage behind. A ** bag slipped out of the back of the passage while tumbling, and you could feel that the sack contained a living thing, still fluttering and struggling, making a gurgling sound. The mouth of the bag is tightly tied, and the contents can't escape.
The trolls were woken up by the sound, rolled over, and slapped the bag with a huge palm, once, twice. Then there was no movement in the bag, only some blood seeped through the sack and slowly flowed out. The trolls were satisfied that they had turned off the alarm clock and continued to sleep.
Then, a package the size of a lunch box slid down the tunnel and landed lightly onto the sack. Through the campfire, Siegel discovered that it was supposed to be a book wrapped in sheepskin, with a letter tied with silk thread on the outside. The envelope is glued with red wax, and the badge on the wax is faintly visible.
The squid instinctively sensed that this letter would be of great use and wanted to bring it over. But the shemales were lying next to the pile, and if they weren't careful, they would wake them up. Siegel hesitated for a moment, then made up his mind, held his breath, and walked over softly with his mouth covered.
