One Hundred and Seventy-One: The second layer, mutated puppets and anomalous passages

In this huge base with a total of three floors, each floor has an important core area, and this core area also explains the main role of this layer of base. For example, the core location of the first floor is marked on the electronic map as the "Combat Machinery Production Plant", which is also where the elite commando team infiltrated. From the map, this area is very well defended, with far more enemy troops stationed than elsewhere, so our route marked on the map far bypasses this dangerous area.

The centerpiece of the second level is the "New Mechanics Design Workspace", where I suspect that the enemy's powerful and bizarre combat machines were originally designed from scratch before being put into use. Judging by the name, I'm guessing that this area has the mission of enabling our enemies to adapt to their adversaries in time to better adapt, transform, and create their own new members, making them more perfect and evolving. Therefore, in a large sense, for our enemies, this layer is far more important than the previous one.

The same is true in terms of the resistance we have encountered.

Although the second level of the base is about the same size as the first level on our digital map, if you are in it, it will look much larger than the first level. The reason why it gives you this feeling is, on the one hand, because the road on this level is much wider and higher than that of the first level; On the other hand, it's because there are often open, square-like spaces that make you feel like you're in a very large space. On the map, most of these sites are marked as "combat test areas".

Probably because of the fierce battle, we have never seen any new types of machinery here for field testing, but the combat machinery patrolling this layer is much stronger in both quantity and quality than the previous layer.

On the first level, most of the patrols are still mechanical puppets armed with light guns, and their attack methods are extremely simple, and they will only stand at a distance and shoot at us. Once they're in close proximity by a melee professional like me, their fragile armor is completely defenseless, and can only be chopped into pieces like we chop up melons and vegetables.

In comparison, the patrols of the second tier are much stronger. The wide roads allow them to roam around with some of the most powerful energy cannons of these vehicles, and their heavy armor makes them a nuisance that we don't want to face when we have a chance to fight hand-to-hand at the expense of bullets.

The variety of vehicles and large battle machines is not the only problem, and the battle puppets on this level have also been greatly enhanced. Among these puppets, there is a puppet called the "Fire Bat", which is much thicker than the others. It seemed sluggish, painted in crimson, and its two thick arms set it apart from other armed puppets. When the battle begins, these guys don't hide behind the chariot and shoot at us, but they rush forward and get close to us with extraordinary bravery. When they began to attack, the two thick arms instantly turned into two magic flamethrowers, and the raging flames came out of them, forming two huge pillars of fire, which kept spitting towards us. These two pillars of fire are far more lethal than the light bullet guns of the other puppets, and when we first met, it really made us who lacked the defense against intruders suffer a lot. If it weren't for the fact that our leader, Lord Fei Yin, who happens to be an ice mage, can play a certain role in stopping fire attacks, and the dwarven priest Longbow Shooting Sun is uncharacteristically no longer so courageous, but dutifully fulfilling a priest's mission to help his teammates recover their lives, I am afraid it will be difficult for us to pass these difficulties.

Of course, when I say that the longbow shoots the sun "no longer so aggressively", it doesn't mean that this irascible and aggressive rampaging dwarf has suddenly changed his temper and become sensible. It's really because in this highly futuristic, long-range shooting battlefield, his nunchuck staff, which must be brought to his side to work, does not play much role, and he is very complacent about his powerful magnetic cannon, and always wants to experience more of the heroic pleasure of bombarding the enemy to the slag from afar, which allows him to honestly stay away from the front-line confrontation and protect the lives of our entire team in a safer position.

In addition to the appearance of these new "Fire Bat" puppets, there are many other new types of puppets that have different variations, all of which have different roles in battle:

A puppet called the "Gladiator" is able to create a shockwave within a certain range like a minotaur when we get close, leaving approaching intruders unstable and taking the opportunity to inflict a fatal blow on them;

There is also a "long-range sniper" that can shoot at us from a distance out of sight, and their light bullets are more penetrating and lethal than ordinary ammunition, but fortunately they don't shoot as often as regular puppets, otherwise we would be in big trouble;

A puppet called the "Panzergrenadier" is no longer an ordinary light bullet weapon, but an explosive weapon similar to the longbow fire cannon, which will form an explosive attack after the ammunition is fired, and once hit head-on by this weapon, we will lose a lot of vitality, and even if we are only within its explosion range, we will also take a certain amount of damage, and at the same time produce a stun effect for three seconds.

Another type of "Light Knife Samurai" completely discarded the guns and ammunition for long-range attacks, these metal puppets are faster and more agile, and each "Light Knife Samurai" wields a reddish scimitar in his hand, these light knives with unknown power can not only be used for slashing, but also add a layer of fire damage after hitting the opponent.

The most troublesome thing is a kind of metal puppet called "Phantom", they don't look much different from ordinary puppets, and the light bullet guns they carry are also ordinary standard weapons, but the worst thing is that these puppets don't know what kind of magic is attached to them, they can hide their bodies like wanderers, and they touch behind us without paying attention, and shoot at us when we are careless. While their stealth skills aren't flawless, and if you look closely in the direction they shoot, you can see the flow of light and shadow due to the refraction, but not everyone can always be on their toes in the heat of battle. We've been ambushed by them many times, and even Fei Yin and Ding Ding Xiaoge, the two law professionals with the lowest defensive capabilities, have been sacrificed more than once at their hands.

Flashbangs are a great way to make this Phantom puppet manifest, but unfortunately we don't have many of these throwing weapons in our possession, and the flashbangs, which attack us with indiscriminate vision between friend and foe, are just as painful as ourselves. But even so, by the time we hadn't completed a third of the journey on the second floor of the base, we had already thrown out the flashbangs in our hands.

To our own deep admiration, even though there were many difficulties and dangers along the way, and even though we had to deal with these outnumbered, well-armed and fierce enemies, we had a clear purpose, a strong will, and a high fighting spirit, and finally stumbled and crawled all the way to the entrance from the second floor to the third floor.

"Look, the elevator is there," the red wolf shouted excitedly when the entrance to the passage finally appeared in front of everyone.

"Where, where?" Longbow Shooting Sun, who was guarded by a group of bare-sword warriors, asked in a loud voice.

"Right in front of me, see?" The red wolf kindly pointed the way for the longbow to shoot the sun.

“…… See, you're invisible, the devil knows where your right front is," said Longbow Shooting Sun angrily as he waved the staff in his hand and struggled to fend off the attacks of the Light Sword Samurai.

As soon as the words fell, an emaciated shadow suddenly appeared behind a fire bat, and then two short green flashes suddenly lit up, tearing the metal puppet that was waiting for the ** flame in half.

"Now you can see it, right?" The red wolf asked, pointing in the direction of the entrance of the passage.

"Can't you see I'm surrounded by a bunch of below-belt?" The dwarven priest was surrounded in a circle of white metal thighs, grumbling angrily.

"Hold on, I'll help you right away" I just managed to take out two Panzergrenadiers, and now I have the last one left in front of me. You know, puppet classes like this that are prone to massive damage must be eliminated before they can attack, otherwise they will likely cause us lethal damage if they are allowed to attack.

"I'm almost done with it here," Ding Ding Xiaoge lay behind a pile of metal plates scattered in the back, shooting at several long-range snipers in the distance, while cheering up the longbow sun. At the same time, he manipulated the Hell Spirit to rush towards a group of invisible phantoms.

Attacking with the Hell Spirit is also the magician Fei Yin. Although the stealth ability of these special puppets is not as strong as that of the red wolf, if you look closely, you can always see a blurry cloud of distorted light and shadow, but what they hate is that they can still remain invisible when attacking. Fortunately, this period of fighting allowed us to gradually find some ways to deal with them: Fei Yin's large-scale offensive spells made them unable to resist, and the powerful hand-to-hand combat ability of the Demon Realm provided good cover for our magicians, and their destruction was only a matter of time.

As we became more proficient, we dismantled one puppet after another into pieces. When I finally cleared out the enemies in front of me, I saw that the longbow had only about a third of his life left, and his mana had bottomed out, and there were four barely unscathed samurai in front of him, slashing at him with a fierce sword. If it weren't for the timely use of the "Holy Light Protection" defensive skill, he would have encountered misfortune at this moment.

"Longbow, run, I'll save you," I rushed in his direction with a gun in one hand and a sword in the other, fearing that I would have to collect the body of the reckless dwarf if I was too late.

"Don't come here, I don't need you to save me" Longbow Shooting Sun seemed unconcerned about his current precarious situation, and he heroically declined my help, and then began his countdown:

"Five, four, three, two, one, yes, charge complete," he cheered excitedly, put away the nunchucks staff at a speed that ordinary people could hardly reach, and then turned around and pulled out the twin-linked magnetic cannon behind the back, "pulling out" to be exact, and then pestled the ground with the muzzle down, and pulled the firing mechanism fiercely......

A violent storm of energy swelled in an instant, rolling up a ferocious fury on the ground, accompanied by green energy lines flying and jumping all over the ground. Within the reach of this powerful explosion, everyone felt a tyrannical and dangerous force, as if it wanted to tear everything to pieces. And when the aftermath of the explosion finally dissipated, we saw that the four light sword warriors surrounding Longbow Shooting Sun had been torn to smithereens, and there was no longer the slightest danger.

Met my amazed gaze, the longbow flaunted the barrel of the gun, rested the handle on the ground, and ...... Standing on tiptoe, he smugly blew on the muzzle of the cannon that had no trace of smoke and dust at all, and Shi Shiran cast a healing wave on himself.

To be honest, I have no interest in the whimsical manipulation of the dwarven priests, but I just think that the people who developed these weapons seven thousand years later are too boring: they repeatedly insist that they use a kind of "technology" rather than "magic" to show that they are different from their predecessors, but it seems to me that they have created other tools, and used the power of magic in another way. For example, the explosion of the magnetic cannon had no effect on the longbow shooting of the Japanese and us comrades, but only caused damage to the enemy's metal puppets, which was obviously the caster's "subjective consciousness hostile selection and guiding nature" of magical power, just as Fei Yin's range attack spell "Frozen Spell" did not have to worry about hurting one's own people no matter how chaotic and dense the battlefield was.

It's actually the most boring thing like this to defamiliarize other people's familiar things with some specious academic language and make people feel like they're smart......

Hey, why do I suddenly feel a little guilty of this thought?

……

After clearing all enemies, the entrance to the third level has appeared before our eyes. This time it no longer looks like a completely enclosed room, but a very large open platform. The platform was large enough to hold two of the same gigantic armored combat vehicles we've seen before, and it looks as if it was originally designed to transport these large pieces of equipment.

The atmosphere around was quiet, a little eerily quiet. Based on our long adventures, whenever we come to an important passage from one area to another in the dungeon area, some unusually powerful enemies will suddenly appear: either ugly and huge monsters, or dangerous traps, or some ferocious and huge alien creatures...... And so on and so forth. Of course, as you may have noticed, they all have one thing in common, and that is "huge". I don't know where our enemies come from such a consistent aesthetic way of growing and developing, these most ferocious enemies are all behemoths that can be seen clearly from two or three hundred paces away. Such a coincidence is really incredible.

However, the strange thing here is that this is a very empty place, even in the entire second floor of the base, where the "actual combat test area" is very concentrated, it is the largest open space I have ever seen. Everything is clear here, there are no deep ponds, no tall temples, and even us small ordinary creatures stand out here, let alone the gigantic and powerful enemies that should be here. As far as our eyes could see, we didn't see a single ghost, and the sudden eerie quiet atmosphere made our nerves tense more than ever.

If anything, it's a large vehicle parked next to the transport platform that leads to the third floor. It has a dark red nose with two huge chimneys, and as powerful as it looks, I still don't think it's a chariot, as it doesn't see a single weapon system from end to end. If we need to watch out for it, what should we watch out for? Beware of it coming at us head-on if it's not paying attention - it's a bit too primitive.

Actually, I'm guessing it's just a piece of equipment for transporting the big stuff, because there's a huge wagon towed behind it, big enough to fit a heavy tank.

This huge trailer is very different from any other vehicle we've seen in 7,000 years, and that difference is that it has wheels, not just wheels, but many wheels, both on the huge front of the car and on the oversized trailer in the back. I think this design should also be related to its use: judging from the common sense of alchemy, the weight that those vehicles that rely on ** flame is limited after all, and when the objects that need to be carried are too heavy, perhaps these primitive tools with wheels can play a better supporting role.

You can imagine how intimately I feel when I see such a primitive, traditional round tool after being accustomed to seeing all kinds of vehicles flying through the air with red or blue flames underneath. However, I didn't pay too much attention to it, because in this dangerous environment, I had to be on the lookout for powerful enemies that could appear at any time.

To our surprise, however, even though we had reached the edge of the transport platform, everything around us was still incredibly quiet and peaceful.

It seems that there are no guarding enemies here, and the fear just now is completely self-inflicted by my suspicions. In fact, all of our speculations come from the usual adventures, and they have no reference significance for the world 7,000 years later. Besides, there has never been a law or axiom that says that every dungeon's vital passage must be guarded by a large monster.

In our common happy gaze, our president, Fei Yin, walked up to the operating instrument of the transport platform, reached out and pressed the start button.........
