Chapter 9: The Birds (3)
This was the first time that Li Yun had seen a bird near the company.
They are full of high-rise buildings, office buildings everywhere, and there is an endless stream of cars on the road next to them. Places like Snack Street are in the other direction, and you have to cross an intersection. Not to mention such a small bird with rare feathers, he has never heard the sound of birds.
The bird has flown away. Li Yun was only slightly surprised for a while, then walked into the pantry and poured himself water.
On the water dispenser, the bucket bubbles and gurgles. The cup rattled and gradually filled with pure water.
Perhaps it was because he had been distracted by the birds, and he didn't feel uncomfortable now.
He still took two sips of water before he was ready to return to his desk with his glass.
Boom!
With a loud bang, Li Yun's hand shook, and the mug slammed directly on the marble desk. The cup shattered, and the remaining water in the cup spilled directly on Li Yun's leather shoes.
Li Yun didn't care to look at the fragments of the cup and the wet leather shoes, so he turned his head directly, almost twisting his neck.
There was nothing outside the window, just a sticky red on the piece of glass.
The red blood slowly slid down, leaving several trails of varying lengths on the glass.
Li Yun's heart beat faster, and he couldn't hold the half of the cup.
He tossed the cup on the desk and walked slowly to the window.
His leather shoes stepped on the water, and he also stepped on the crumbs of the cup. There was a small crumbling sound under the soles of his shoes.
Li Yun didn't hear the sound under his feet at all, nor did he feel anything strange under his feet. All he could hear was the sound of his own heartbeat.
His hands trembled and he pressed against the window, his head leaning over and looking out of the window.
He lowered his eyes, bulging out, trying to see downstairs.
Eleven floors away, he could only see the floor tiles and bare flower beds downstairs.
The blood on the windowpane was right in front of you.
It was blood, not ketchup or anything like that.
As if frightened, Li Yun jerked back, his feet stepping on the crumbs of the mug again. This time he felt it, lowered his head, and hurriedly dodged.
A colleague asked with concern, "What's wrong?" ”
Only then did Li Yun find that there was someone standing at the door.
"The cup is broken." The man was followed by another, and after only one glance at the ground, he withdrew his gaze.
Two young female colleagues walked in, but they didn't take it seriously.
Li Yun was shocked.
He couldn't remember for a moment what he had just leaned against the window to see. Why did he just look downstairs without thinking? He subconsciously seemed to think......
"Ah, what's this?" The colleague who came to make tea suddenly screamed and stretched out his hand to point to the window pane.
Another colleague took a closer look, reached out and touched the window, pushed the window open, and leaned over to look out.
"It looks like blood, huh? Outside the window. She said uncertainly.
The colleague turned his head to look at Li Yun, "Where did the blood come from?" ”
They spoke naturally, not as panicked as Li Yun had before, but just a kind of dazed and confused.
Li Yun shook his head, exhaled, and began to clean up the debris on the ground. His hands were still shaky, but that didn't stop him from clearing the ground. The sound of his colleagues making tea and chatting made his nerves relax. It's the everyday life he's used to. Even though they were still talking about the bloodstains, he didn't feel sick.
Li Yun threw the cup into the trash with the fragments. This act is as if to throw away your own uneasiness.
He took a deep breath and prepared to return to his seat and get back to work.
A clattering sound came from the direction of the window.
The two co-workers who were chatting over tea stopped talking.
"Hey, bird!" A colleague exclaimed.
Li Yun paused as he was about to take a step.
"Fly in, fly in! Don't let it fly in! ”
"Don't scream."
"You didn't close the window before."
The conversation between the two is fast-paced.
Li Yun felt something in his heart, and the appearance of the little bird had already appeared in his mind.
A fist-sized body with brownish-yellow feathers and a bright red ...... on the top of the head
Li Yun slowly turned around.
The two colleagues put down their cups, spread their arms, waved their hands, and made a "shhhhh
The little bird looked curiously at the two strange creatures. It stood on the open window, motionless, with no intention of coming in or leaving.
Li Yun saw the red color on the top of the bird's head. It's just that the color and shape are slightly different from what he remembers.
"Meow!" The colleague opened his teeth and claws, and learned to meow in his mouth.
Another person complained with tears and laughter: "What are you doing? ”
"Pretend to be a cat to scare it. Meow! The man did it again, this time with both hands and a step towards the bird.
The bird was frightened, flapped its wings, and disappeared.
Li Yun only watched a scene by himself. It's just a little episode in the monotonous and repetitive daily life. He was about to leave when he heard a colleague's questioning in disbelief.
"There's blood here."
Li Yun's figure froze again.
"Where did it come from? ...... just now"
"Was that bird's head red?"
"It's hurt, huh?"
"Alas...... I probably wanted to ask for help just now. ”
The colleague was annoyed.
The uninvited guest becomes a small animal that asks for help from humans, and the attitude of humans towards it naturally changes.
Li Yun's mentality has also changed.
He stood stiff in the doorway, feeling drops of cold sweat run down his neck and into his collar.
He thought of the loud bang......
"Li Yun, what's wrong with you?" A colleague asked behind his back.
Li Yun didn't dare to look back.
He replied vaguely, and ran out without looking back.
He walked briskly, rushed back to his desk, and sat down. He gasped for breath, as if he had just experienced an intense exercise, and his heartbeat and breathing had not returned to normal. There was no way he could calm down.
Just a bird.
Maybe it's still a stupid bird, stupidly hitting the glass.
This is normal.
Li Yun told himself.
He also pulled out his phone and searched the web.
There are 2,380,000 related results under the search term "birds hitting windows", and the Q&A in the first result is the words "this is a good omen".
Li Yun thought, this is a good omen.
His mood strangely regained its composure and became lighter.
It's just that the sound is a little scary.
Suddenly hearing such a movement is frightening.
Other...... Nothing.
The two female colleagues happened to come back, and when they passed by Li Yun, they were still talking about the little bird.
Li Yun put down his phone, thinking with some self-deprecation that he was too timid.
The thought came to him, and he seemed to gain courage, and the feeling of being frightened was swept away.
He pulled himself together and got back to work.
Nothing happened that day.
Early the next morning, Li Yun was woken up by an alarm clock.
There are no obnoxious birds.
Life is back on track. The previous small frightes have become a kind of memory, and sink into the depths of memory.
Li Yun had a wonderful weekend. Drinking with old friends on Saturday and going on a blind date with a girl on Sunday arranged by his parents. The other party's name is Zhang Xinqian, who is beautiful and has a gentle and generous personality. Both parties went on a blind date for the purpose of marriage, Li Yun was very satisfied, and the other party seemed to be very satisfied. The two agreed on a date for the next week. Zhang Xinqian searched for movie screenings with great interest when she was eating. It's a bit of a pity that the good spots for the weekend have been selected ahead of schedule. They scheduled their appointment for Wednesday. This is not like what a couple of men and women who just met would do, but Zhang Xinqian's unpretentious performance made Li Yun very comfortable.
A new week has arrived, and Li Yun has forgotten about the birds.
He was looking forward to Wednesday's appointment. As soon as I looked forward to it, I directly thought of my future married life, some happy, some apprehensive, and thought about it all night.
On Wednesday, Li Yun and Zhang Xinqian watched the movie that Zhang Xinqian was looking forward to together, and then went to dinner together.
Zhang Xinqian looked a little absent-minded. She didn't have the enthusiasm she had seen the last time we met, and she wandered a few times, as if she had forgotten that there was someone sitting across from her.
Li Yun didn't know what the problem was.
