Chapter 28: Triwizard Tournament
In a gloomy atmosphere at the end of the holidays, the faculty and staff welcomed back students and new students.
The students immediately discovered that their favorite young and handsome Defence Against the Dark Arts professor had been infected by Professor Snape, and his face was gloomy every day, and the class was no longer funny and lighthearted, and even the slightest mistake would attract his cynicism.
Lockhart's gloom is half pretended to be for Dumbledore, partly from the resentment of being doused with a truth potion (although Dumbledore's distress was understood on the spot, understanding is not the same as understanding), and partly from the worry of not succeeding in stopping Barty Jr.'s plot.
"Even Hermione Granger, Professor Lockhart's favorite, was afraid to go to Professor Lockhart's office. The students' words summed up Professor Lockhart's current state.
People who seem to be grumpy can always be friends: now that Lockhart calls Snape "Severus", and similarly, Snape reluctantly calls Lockhart "Gildero", with a common secret goal that always brings people closer together.
On the last day of October, the other two teams from the Triwizard Tournament will arrive at the school for a year-long away game.
The last class of the afternoon ended half an hour early, and Lockhart had no class in the afternoon, so he stood behind Dumbledore early and blew the northwest wind for half a day.
At six o'clock, a carriage the size of a house drawn by twelve pegasus horses flew to the southeast, and landed in the midst of the commotion of the students. A servant in a light blue robe opened the door to set up a ladder, and the headmistress of Beauxbatons, Maxim, appeared in full view - this lady was incredibly tall, almost taller than Hagrid the Forester, but her figure was very well-proportioned, with handsome skin, smooth face, eyes that were only large and dark, of average quality, hooked nose, hair combed back in a bun, shining at the base of her neck, she was black satin from head to toe, and the delicate and dazzling opals glittered on her neck and thick fingers.
Dumbledore applauded and greeted Miss Maxim as she approached, "Welcome to Hogwarts, dear Miss Maxim!"
Miss Maxime reached out gracefully, and Dumbledore didn't have to bend down to kiss her knuckles.
"Hello, Dumbledore, I wish you all the best. Her exotic voice was as low as the strings of a cello gliding through velvet, and the girls in silver-blue silk robes who hid in the shadows behind her were immediately dwarfed. For a time, all the grace and luxury from France were gathered in this tall and toned lady.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Maxim. Seeing that the lady turned to this side, Lockhart hurriedly introduced himself: "Down here is Gilderoy Lockhart, the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts, ready to serve you. ”
"Long admired the Great Name, Mr. Lockhart. Lady Maxim curtsy and turned her position to cover the students behind her, seemingly famous, and she seemed to be guarding Lockhart as Britain's number one playboy.
Lady Maxim repeatedly stressed that her horses were not easy to tame, and Dumbledore repeatedly promised that our rangers would be able to handle them, and it was only after Filch the Administrator ushered them into the hall that it took several minutes for the Armslang team to arrive.
A whirlpool appeared in the center of the great lake on the school grounds, and with the sound of a huge bubbling water like a bathtub, a three-masted galleon rose from the bottom of the lake, not to mention the faint moonlight, as if even under the strongest sun, it was emaciated only a black silhouette. The ghost ship was silent on the deck, the sporadic lights like monsters' eyes gradually became clear as they drove to the shore, and through the portholes, people could be seen lining up to set up a gangplank and wait to disembark. It wasn't until they stepped onto the grass in the courtyard that everyone saw that these northern visitors were wearing thick fur coats, and they looked even stronger and burly.
At the forefront was Igor Karkaroff of Armslang, wearing a silver fox fur cloak of the same color as his hair, and a goatee curled at the corners of his mouth, and first extended his hands to Dumbledore and greeted him warmly: "Dear old fellow Dumbledore, are you alright?"
Karkaroff's reputation in the wizarding world is not very good, and this time it is probably the first time he has returned to England since his acquittal. When he ostentatiously named a student and told him to come to the front, everyone somewhat understood why Karkaroff dared to show up. As if sensing that the response from Hogwarts was not enthusiastic enough, Karkaroff turned to me with an exaggerated look of surprise: "Merlin is on board! Isn't this our dear Mr. Lockhart! Your adventures are a recommended book in our school!"
As a former Auror, Lockhart didn't have a crush on him, but greeted him politely.
The students poured into the hall, and the Hogwarts teachers walked last, meeting Lady Maxim in the small living room, before entering the teacher's seat.
There were four extra chairs in the teacher's chair, two of which were intended for the officials of the Ministry of Magic who organized the Triwizard Tournament, and it was not long before Mr. Rufus Scrimgeour and Ludo Bagman, who had succeeded Crouch, showed up - their presence did not attract enough attention from the students, and instead, the students' eyes were directed to the Ravenclaw table, either explicitly or implicitly.
Beauxbatons' pupils arrived in thin silk robes, and most of them wrapped their heads and faces in the open room to keep out the cold, and now in the warm hall, one of them took off his scarf and let out a hair that was as dense and slippery as a girl's waist-length hair—if it had to be divided, even the well-maintained Malfoys were no match for her beauty, and the curtain of hair exuded an alluring allure like an estrophic pill, and almost all the boys were dumbfounded, and all the girls were sour and jealous.
Lockhart sat in the teacher's chair, glass in hand, and looked at the beautiful girl. If you guessed correctly, this is Fleur Delacour. It's really amazing, don't blame those students for losing their temper, Lockhart has never seen such a beautiful woman, and the Meiwa bloodline is indeed magical.
But now, Lockhart's mind was not on the pickles, and Dumbledore, after a brief welcome to the guests, went straight to the point—"Over the past few months, Mr. Bagmund and Mr. Scrimgeour have worked tirelessly in preparation for the Triwizard Tournament. Dumbledore continued, "They will be joining me, Professor Karkaroff, and Lady Maxim to form Miss Judges. ”
"Now, Filch, bring the box. ”
