Chapter 189: Experiments

After a pause, Dumbledore continued.

"From what I can unearth, Voldemort's grandfather was even more shocked when he returned from Azkaban and didn't see his daughter, and he probably never learned how to make food for himself. Azkaban crippled Mavolo's body, and he didn't live to see Morfin return to the cabin. ā€

"He's starving?'s a wizard!" Tonks screamed, "he can live to rob, maybe it's illegal, but he's going to die......"

"You can't expect everyone to have the Aurors' professional training or have an Auror's mission immunity from crime. He'd face the Dementors again if he went to rob, and I'd guess he'd rather die. Lockhart shrugged.

"Yes, that's right," said Dumbledore, "wizarding laws are a bit rigid right now...... And then we'll have to make some more guesswork, but I don't think it's hard to deduce what happened next. A few months after Voldemort's parents eloped and got married, Tom Riddle returned to Little Hangleton's mansion, but without his wife with him. Rumors spread among his neighbors that he was convinced that he had been 'deceived' and 'hoodwinked'. I suppose he must have meant that he had been enchanted and that the spell had been lifted, but I am sure he would not have dared to use such words, lest others would have thought of him as insane. However, when the villagers heard him, they assumed that Merope had lied to Tom Riddle and pretended that she was about to have children for him, forcing him to marry her. ā€

"But she did give birth to his child. ā€

"yes, but that's a year after they've been married. When Tom Riddle left her, she was pregnant. ā€

"Muggles have no resistance to aphrodisiacs. "Lockhart has checked the information," theoretically can be used all the time. ā€

"Again, that's just guesswork. Dumbledore said, "I think Merope loves her husband so much that she can't bear to keep him in the palm of her hand by magic." She made a decision, I think, to stop giving him aphrodisiacs. Perhaps, because she was so obsessed with love, she believed that her husband would fall in love with her in return. Perhaps, she thought that her husband would stay for the sake of the children. If that were the case, both of her plans would have failed. Tom Riddle left her, never to see her again, and didn't bother to ask how his son was. ā€

The sky outside was already pitch black, and the lights in Dumbledore's office seemed brighter than before.

"Ah, it's not early, I think I'll be here tonight. After a moment, Dumbledore said, "In two days, I'll show Harry this memory first, and then you can come and watch the next one at a time." ā€

"Okay, then let's go back. ā€

"Gildero. Dumbledore stopped Lockhart, "Wait a minute. ā€

"What's the matter, Mr. Headmaster?" Lockhart walked to the door, turning around.

"It's nothing, just talk about it," Dumbledore smiled, "I can see that the girls in the school like you very much, and some of them are even trying to find a way to use aphrodisiacs on you." ā€

ā€œ...... I'll watch my diet, Mr. Headmaster. Lockhart was speechless.

"Actually, it's completely understandable that girls like you, after all, you are such a young and promising young man. Dumbledore said casually, "Thirty years old, isn't that a young man in the wizarding world?" ā€

"Thirty-four, Mr. Headmaster. Lockhart replied that he didn't know what Dumbledore was going to say.

"Ah, thirty-four, a very good grade, isn't it, just out of the whims and naivety of youth, and not a middle-aged person. Dumbledore paused, "That's good. ā€

"Ah, that's good, I cherish the time I have, Mr. Headmaster. Lockhart reluctantly coped.

"You're a wonderful boy, young, it's normal to mess with flowers, but you have to be in moderation, Gildero. Dumbledore seemed to think enough was enough, "Go back, be careful." ā€

Lockhart walked out of the headmaster's office in a daze, and the headmaster said those words to be casual or to remind himself of something? he thought he was very restrained in school, and as for Hermione, he didn't use any real guns, and even Mrs. Weasley didn't know how Dumbledore could have noticed anything.

――

Before he knew it, Lockhart had already walked to the vicinity of Snape's office, and since he was here, let's go over and take a look, and the gift he brought to him had not been delivered, and he knocked on the door of Snape's office.

"Gildero, I'm about to go to you, I want to make a real yĆ n, and I may need to use the Philosopher's Stone. Snape looked up from what he was busy with and said, "A bold real." ā€

"Ah...... Ok no problem. Lockhart took out the Philosopher's Stone and took out a few books by the way, "Severus, this is some herbal medicine books I brought from China, there are already English editions, you can read them if you are bored." ā€

"Yes. Instead of looking at the pile of gifts, Snape found a paper bag from the cabinet.

"Has there been any progress in the research of the Philosopher's Stone?" Lockhart placed his things in the corner of the table and sat down in the humble chair, "Where did the unicorn blood without the power of the curse come from?"

"Everything else is pretty much figured out," Snape shook his head and sat back down, "but still don't know where the unicorn blood without the power of the curse came from......

"So I'm going to try it with normal unicorn blood. ā€

"What? that's too dangerous!" Lockhart was shocked, "It's not an ethereal legend that unicorn blood has a curse, don't risk it!"

"There are Philosopher's Stones, and any curse that acts on ** can be cleared by consuming some mana. ā€

"......"

"Needless to say, you can watch here, something happened to save me. Snape took out the Philosopher's Stone he had made himself, a gray stone, from his paper bag.

"You don't even have the same color!, can you?" Lockhart still tried to dissuade Snape.

"Many of the materials of the Philosopher's Stone are better materials to make its magic-life force conversion more efficient, but I just make a lot of substitutes, and if I use all the raw materials, I may not be able to collect them all my life. I'm sure it's a magic stone that can be used. ā€

"Well, watch out. Lockhart had to step aside.

Snape pulled out a silver knife and cut a wound on his hand. After a few seconds, blood began to slowly trickle out of the wound, and Snape grasped the homemade Philosopher's Stone and poured mana inside.

The wound quickly recovered at a speed visible to the naked eye, and although there was no miraculous sight of blood flowing back into it, after a few seconds, the wound was completely healed, and the little blood that flowed out was still flowing downward, but the wound had recovered to a smooth state where no trace could be seen at all. In terms of healing effects, the Philosopher's Stone is better than all healing spells and potions.

"How's it going, cursed?" Lockhart asked nervously.

Snape's face changed, and he looked at Lockhart in a daze.

"Dispel the curse with the Philosopher's Stone!" Lockhart grabbed the original Philosopher's Stone on the table and handed it to Snape.

"Don't be nervous, Gildero. Snape relented, and though he said so, he quickly took the Philosopher's Stone and injected magic inside. "The curse didn't come so quickly. ā€

"What does the unicorn's curse look like?"

"According to some texts, using the blood of a unicorn to prolong one's life will make that person a 'vampire', and only by constantly sucking the blood containing magical power can the curse be delayed. Snape dispelled the curse with the Philosopher's Stone, "Based on what I just felt, I can only guess that the blood of a unicorn will transform the magic in a person's body into a life force uncontrollably. The use of real Philosopher's Stone, or unicorn blood without the power of the Curse, will make this transformation manageable. ā€

"Sounds like that. Lohart nodded, "No wonder the legend says that vampires are always young, and it turns out that they can't help themselves. ā€

"When the mana in the body, combined with the mana in the blood, is not enough to pay for this transformation, the vampire's life comes to an end. Snape explained, "Actually, I'm very skeptical that vampire can convert other people's magic into their own, which violates the most basic law of non-transferability, and it is likely that vampires take this behavior as a kind of self-comfort, when in fact it is the magic in their own body that is constantly transformed into life force." ā€

"I've never heard of a vampire coming to the end of his life in silence. Lockhart smiled, "Ninety-nine percent of the vampires were killed by the other wizards as soon as they were exposed, and the remaining one percent was either well hidden or so powerful that the other wizards needed a little time to plan what to do with him." ā€

"That's ......," Snape nodded approvingly, "Gildero, about the uncursed unicorn blood, maybe Hagrid has some ideas, I've heard that the unicorns in the Forbidden Forest have a good relationship with Hagrid. But you know, I don't have a good relationship with him......"

"I'll take the time to ask, but don't get your hopes up, I've never heard of anything like this, and if there's really a way to mass-produce unicorn blood without curses, it's going to be the biggest news in a hundred years. ā€

"This kind of thing...... "Snape thought about it and began to get annoyed again, his fingers tapping on the table without being irritated, "how did Nicol Lemay manage to get his diary or something?"

"You can try, but I guess they're all destroyed," Lockhart said unconvinced, "just repaired the wound, and how much mana did it take to dispel that curse?"

"It's not worth mentioning, the wound is too small, and the curse doesn't work at all. ā€

"I still have a question, what is the practical significance of the half-hung Philosopher's Stone after it is mass-produced?" Lockhart complained, "Can such a magical thing only be used to make people survive, or as a healing item?"

"There's another use, I'm just guessing......," Snape picked up a small notebook on the table and showed it to Lockhart, "and there's a record of a lot of powerful spells that need to be cast at the cost of life, commonly known as forbidden spells." Maybe...... When casting this spell, at the same time, the magic stone is used to quickly convert ** magic power into vitality, and multiple forbidden spells can be cast. ā€

Lockhart looked at the little notebook for a moment in a daze before speaking. "It's a whimsical idea, but it seems possible, so what if the person dies immediately after casting the forbidden spell?"

"No, after all, the principle of forbidden spells is to mix life force and magic power together, and the life force may be lost quickly, but no matter how fast it is lost, it will take a process. Snape rubbed his chin, the conversation was almost entirely speculation from beginning to end, but it was also an interesting mind game to base entirely on data and actual results.

"I see, as long as you have time to activate the Philosopher's Stone during the period of time when your life force is lost, you can realize that the person who casts the forbidden spell is still alive, but it may become a waste. Lockhart shook his head, "But after all, it's better to die than to live, isn't it?" ā€

"As long as you can kill him...... I'm willing to die!" said Snape through gritted teeth.

"Mystery man?" Lockhart looked at Snape uneasily, "for a woman who has been dead for more than ten years, risking her own life?" ā€

"Why do you always know everything!" Snape stood up angrily, "Dumbledore didn't sue you!"

"I spent four years at Hogwarts with you when I was a student, Severus," Lockhart lied, "I could tell you liked that sister named Lily, and then she was killed by a mysterious man." ā€

"That's enough!" Snape's expression suddenly turned hideous, "Go back when you're all right!
