Chapter 62: Two Mirrors
The library at midnight was pitch black and eerie. Harry lit a lamp and carried it past the rows of bookshelves. The lamp looked like it was floating in mid-air, and the sight still creeped at the sight of Hanli feeling himself holding it in his hand.
The no-go area is at the back of the library. Harry and Ron carefully stepped over the rope separating the books from the rest of the collection, raising the lamp to illuminate the forbidden area.
"I look to the left, you look to the right." Harry said to Ron, and the two walked to different shelves.
Harry held up the lamp to illuminate the title of the book, however, he couldn't tell from the title. The peeling, faded, gilded letters spelled out words Harry couldn't understand.
There was a book with a dark stain on it. It's a lot like bloodstains, and it looks very scary. The hairs on the back of Harry's neck stood on end. He felt a whisper coming from the books, as if the books knew that there was someone there who wasn't supposed to be there—maybe it was his hallucination, maybe it wasn't.
Harry walked down the bookshelf, finally reaching the end of the shelf. But Harry didn't find the book he was looking for, and he was about to go back and read it again, only to find a door on the left side at the end of the shelf, which had opened a gap.
"What is this?" Harry pushed the door open and walked into the room.
It looks like an abandoned classroom. Tables and chairs were stacked on top of the wall, showing a large black shadow, and there was an upside-down wastepaper basket - but, on the wall facing him. But there is something that doesn't seem to belong here, as if someone has temporarily put it here because there is no place to put it.
It is a very imposing mirror, high to the ceiling, with an ornate gold frame and two claw-shaped feet underneath. Engraved at the top is a line of words: Eris Stra Ehruitu Bika Frua Iton Wohes. Harry slowly approached the mirror, trying to get a glimpse of himself, but it was empty. He took a few more steps closer and stood in front of the mirror.
He had to cover his mouth with his hand so that he didn't scream. He spun around sharply. His heart was beating wilder than the book screamed earlier—for he saw not only himself in the mirror, but a whole bunch of people standing behind him.
But there was no one in the room. He gasped sharply and slowly turned to look in the mirror. That's right, there was him in the mirror, his face was pale and terrified, and there were at least a dozen people standing behind him in the mirror.
Harry turned his head to look behind him - there was still no one.
He looked in the mirror again. In the mirror, a woman standing behind him is smiling and waving at him.
She was a very beautiful woman, with crimson hair, and her eyes—her eyes looked exactly like mine," Harry thought.
Then he noticed that she was crying, and she was smiling and crying at the same time. The tall, emaciated man with dark hair standing beside her put his arm around her.
The man was glasses-wearing, his hair was disheveled, and the tuft of hair on the back of his head stood on end disobediently, just like Harry's.
Harry instantly realized who they were.
"Mom?" He whispered, "Daddy? ”
Harry suddenly felt a pang of cramping inside, half joy, half sadness deep into his bones.
Harry didn't know how long he had been standing in front of the mirror, and he kept staring at his parents in the mirror until Ron's voice came from outside the door:
"Harry, where are you?"
Reluctantly, Harry looked away from his mother's face and went outside the door to call Ron in.
"Ron! Look, I see Mom and Dad! See? Harry pulled Ron to the mirror.
Ron said confusedly, "I can't see anything." ”
"Look! See... They're all in... There's a whole bunch of people..."
"I can only see you."
"Take a good look, come here, stand in my place." Harry stepped aside, but as soon as Ron stood in front of the mirror, Harry couldn't see his family anymore, only Ron standing there in his pajamas.
Ron stared at himself in the mirror dumbfounded.
"This is me!" Ron's mouth opened wide in surprise.
"Can you see your family all around you?" Harry asked.
"No—I'm the only one—but it's not the same as it is now—I seem to be older—I'm still the president of the boys' student council!"
"I'm the Student Council President's Badge - and I'm still holding the House Cup and the Quidditch Cup - I'm still the captain of Team Quidditch!"
Ron managed to take his eyes off the glorious spectacle and looked at Harry excitedly, "You say, does this mirror indicate the future?" ”
"How is that possible? All the people in my family are dead - let me see again-"
"You've been watching alone all night, so give me a moment."
The two of them took turns standing in front of the mirror and watched in fascination, until one time when Harry stood in front of the mirror, Ron's face changed, as if he had thought of something, and he grabbed Harry's arm to remove him from the mirror.
"Hey, Ron, what are you doing, you've been watching long enough, it's my turn." Harry was a little angry, he felt that Ron wanted to take his treasure.
"That's enough, Harry. Let's hurry up, I think there's something wrong with this mirror. ”
"There's a problem, what's the problem?" Harry shook off Ron's hand, "I'm not you, you can see your parents at any time, you don't know what it's like to lose your parents." ”
"Harry!" Ron shouted, pulling out the mirror that Calvin had given him from Harry's pocket and dangling it in front of Harry, "Think of this mirror! ”
Harry woke up suddenly, he saw his pale, slightly angry face in the two-way mirror sent by Calvin, hesitated to look at it, and said, "It's different, Ron, I can see Mom and Dad..."
"All the same, you can see things that don't exist in them." Ron was tough and wanted to pull Harry away from the mirror.
Harry reluctantly glanced in the mirror one last time, nodded, and walked out with Ron.
"Very well, gentlemen, not to indulge in the illusion of the Mirror of Eris."
Harry felt his internal organs freeze to ice. He looked behind him. Sitting at a table by the wall was none other than Headmaster Dumbledore.
"Headmaster......" Ron's voice trembled with fear, thinking to himself that it was over.
"Don't be afraid, Mr. Weasley, I'm glad you asked for control of the Mirror of Eris in time." Dumbledore calmed Ron's emotions,
"It allows us to see only the deepest and strongest desires of our hearts. You can realize in time that everything in the mirror is false, which is rare among young wizards, and many adult wizards can't do it. ”
"Headmaster Dumbledore, I think it's probably because I've seen mirrors like this......" Ron was a little embarrassed by the compliment.
"Is that the mirror you have in your hand? Can you show me? ”
