Chapter 131: Dumbledore and the Sorting Hat's Soul
Dumbledore knew that Lady Longbottom was coming, and Calvin was not surprised.
Professor McGonagall brought the two to the ugly stone beast at the door of Dumbledore's office and said, "Blowing Super Bubble Gum."
The two stone beasts swirled to the sides to make way for the passageway, revealing the staircase inside.
"Go in, Professor Dumbledore is waiting for you." Professor McGonagall gave a rare smile in front of Mrs. Longbottom.
Pushing open the wooden door at the end of the stairs, Headmaster Dumbledore was smiling and waiting for them. He stood up from his chair and welcomed, "Augusta, it's a pleasure to see you at Hogwarts."
Lady Longbottom grimaced and said, "Headmaster Dumbledore, I need your wisdom." She began to talk about treating the Longbottoms.
Dumbledore listened quietly, with occasional flashes of surprise in his eyes, but kept Mrs. Longbottom talking.
It wasn't until the end that Dumbledore crossed his index finger over his chest and asked lightly, "So Frank and Alice will be able to wake up soon?"
"I can't guarantee it, Headmaster Dumbledore," Calvin said with some leeway, "if the after-effects of the Curse of Drilling Heart can be cured so easily, it will not be worthy of the name of the Unforgivable Curse. I can only try as best I can."
"Ah, I agree," Dumbledore agreed, holding up a finger, "I tried to piece together their broken memories, but I failed."
"The point is not in memory, but in the soul." Calvin pulled out a pair of Thestrals, and he suddenly wanted to see what Dumbledore's soul looked like. After putting it on, he saw a red soul in Dumbledore's body emitting a blazing light, like a raging flame.
"After repairing their souls and activating their self-healing abilities, their memories will soon recover on their own." Calvin explained.
"Dumbledore, that's what I'm worried about," Lady Longbottom's face was worried, "I shouldn't doubt Professor Capet, but I'm worried about causing them a second harm."
Dumbledore nodded, took a sip of the teacup on the table, and said slowly, "Augusta, please rest assured. Calvin's study of the soul has surpassed mine, and I think he brought you into the world of the painting, which is a kind of magic that affects the soul."
Calvin smiled and nodded, indicating that this was indeed the case.
"So rest assured, even if Calvin can't cure Frank and Alice, it's not going to get any worse." Dumbledore reassured.
With Dumbledore's assurance, Lady Longbottom was relieved. She nodded, and said, "I trust you, Headmaster Dumbledore."
Then she reverted to her fierce witch and said in a loud voice, "In that case, I'll go to Neville first and get him a new wand." With that, he strode out the door.
Calvin was about to leave, but Dumbledore stopped him, "Wait a minute, Calvin."
After Mrs. Longbottom closed the door and left, Dumbledore's expression became extremely serious: "Calvin, are you really sure? About curing the Longbottoms. Their memories are shattered, and even I can't do anything about them." ….
Calvin didn't answer his question, but wandered around the principal's office, which caught the attention of several pairs of eyes. Among them was Delis Devonte, who was both the former Headmaster of Hogwarts and the former Headmaster of St. Mungo, and had her portrait in both places, so she was curious if Calvin could make up to the Longbottoms.
Calvin walked to the corner of the headmaster's office, looked at the sorting hat on the shelf, took out the Thestrals from his sleeve and put them on, looked at the worn hat carefully, and then pointed to it and asked, "Can I wear it, Albus?"
Without waiting for Dumbledore to answer, Calvin picked up the worn wizard's hat and put it on his head.
The Sorting Hat shouted loudly with cracked folds, "Hey, Calvin, you put me down, you're not the Headmaster, you don't have the authority to pick me up."
"Don't worry, Sorting Hat, I'm just curious." Calvin had just looked through Thestrals' glasses and saw a small mass of soul inside the Sorting Hat. He almost thought it was this
It was also Voldemort's Horcrux, but after a closer look, it became clear that it was actually a complete soul.
"May I ask who gave you wisdom?" Calvin asked, holding the brim of his hat with both hands over and over again, the magic filaments extending into the inside of the Sorting Hat.
The Sorting Hat was rather tsundere, "You don't deserve to know this! You're not the headmaster."
Calvin was a little surprised, he originally thought that the Sorting Hat was simply sorting students, but he didn't expect it to have such a complete soul and mind.
The corners of Calvin's mouth curled up in a shallow arc, and he said with a smile, "Don't you want to say it? I can guess a little bit if I don't say it."
It is true that Calvin saw traces of magic on the Sorting Hat of two people, one of whom he had come into contact with, was Rowena Ravenclaw, and the other, according to legend, should have been Godry Gryffindor.
This once again aroused Calvin's competitive spirit: how did four people a thousand years ago give wisdom and soul to an ordinary hat? Can't I surpass them?
"Put me down, Calvin!" The Sorting Hat twisted the tip of Calvin's head and shouted, "You're going to break me, I'm an antique, you can't afford it."
Calvin pouted and put the Sorting Hat back on the shelf, not that he was afraid of the Sorting Hat's threat, but that this low level of exploration wouldn't help him unlock the secrets of the Sorting Hat - he couldn't have removed it in front of Dumbledore.
Calvin turned to look at Dumbledore and said, "I wasn't too sure about it, but now, it's not necessarily."
Dumbledore nodded, "I can trust you completely."
Calvin sneered slightly, "It means that some places don't trust me completely, right?"
"I can't say that," Dumbledore looked a little embarrassed, "but I still want to know why you're willing to treat the Longbottoms, I don't see it doing you any good." You should know that the two of them are members of the Order of the Phoenix."
"Benefits?" Calvin raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise, and said, "Albus, who do you think of me?" It's true that I'm a Slytherin, but I'm not cold-blooded to that extent.
If I want to say why, then I tell you, I respect them as heroes against Voldemort, and heroes shouldn't end up like this, is that enough?"
Dumbledore crossed his hands and looked at Calvin gently, "I think that's enough to impress me. Then I don't care about it, maybe I'll see another touching reunion scene soon."
