Chapter 50: I'll Take You Away
Paulina was indifferent to Mir's warning, staring directly at Matilda with a blank face, standing silently.
Matilda turned her head and looked at Mir suspiciously, asking, "Mr. Edward, who is she?" ”
Mir didn't answer Matilda's question, running over to get in front of Matilda and making eye contact with Paulina.
Paulina was tall, half a head taller than Mir, and the crisp white dress on her body contrasted with her complexion.
Her eyes showed no hint, her chest stood erect, her arms hung straight down, and her hands fell to her waist like a sculpture.
However, Paulina shifted her steps slightly, turned and walked towards the door of the house where she lived, and the black slippers on her feet creaked on the soft sand, which was extremely strange.
Although Paulina walked upright with her head held high, her arms did not swing back and forth, like a marionette, as if someone was hiding somewhere to control Paulina.
When Mir saw Paulina enter the house, he had to remind Matilda that although Matilda did not have any rejection or fear towards Paulina, it did not mean that Paulina was not dangerous.
"Listen, Miss Matilda, she's dangerous, and you need to keep your distance from her." Mir told Matilda.
Matilda's gaze formally met Mir's gaze, and she saw that Mir's eyes were full of concern for herself, with a hint of tenderness like water, enough to immerse her in fantasy.
Her cheeks flushed with a flush, and her fair face was covered with tiny freckles, the ruddy color almost obscuring them.
Before, when she and Mir were in the carriage, Mir had never stared at her like this, his eyes had never looked at her so affectionately except for dodging and wandering, and even for a moment, her heart was already satisfied.
Matilda's eyes began to stagger from Mir's, and she bowed her head shyly and said, "Okay, Mr. Edward, I'll stay away from her later." ”
Mir thinks that Matilda is very kind at heart, and doesn't want her to get too close to those strange people, otherwise kindness can save her or hurt her.
"Let's go, Miss Matilda." Milry told Matilda to step forward.
Matilda entered the house and looked at the neat layout of the house, and she was not disgusted, but full of surprise.
She could not imagine that the layout of the house could be so large, that it could be compared to some small palace in the aristocracy, and she stood in the center of the living room, and looked a little strange.
"It's too big here, Mr. Edward." Matilda said: "I have never seen a house like this except my own home. ”
"I've been anywhere else so far, and nothing looks spectacular." Matilda said.
As for the interior of the house, Mir didn't come in at all, but thought that the exterior looked extremely shabby, which surprised Mir.
The layout and decoration of the interior are even comparable to the house where Father Cavendish lived, especially the paintings on the walls.
Mir ran to the front of the painting again, wanting to look at it again, but after looking at it for a long time, his eyes feeling a little tired, he chose to give up.
He felt that the painting, though it looked similar, was not the same, or that the painting in Father Cavendish was the real thing, and that the one in front of him was only an imitation.
"You may be seated, Miss Matilda." Mir glanced out the window, but saw no carriage passing by, let alone Paulina at any point, and finally relented and said, "What do you want to drink?" ”
Matilda hesitated and said, "Hmm... Water or coffee. ”
Mir nodded, then turned and went to the kitchen, leaving Matilda alone in her chair.
Unexpectedly, Paulina stood silently at the door of the house this time, staring at Matilda's every move, but Matilda did not notice it at all.
Paulina tried to smile and try to approach Matilda, fearing that her sudden appearance would startle Matilda, she chose to politely knock on the open door, but the voice was quiet.
Matilda heard a noise outside the door, turned her head and saw Paulina's stiff expression, and immediately stood up and took a few steps back vigilantly.
"You... What's the matter with you? Matilda was a little frightened, and Mir kept telling herself to stay away from her, and Paulina rushed into the house, making herself feel jealous.
"Beautiful girl, please don't be afraid, I have no hostility." Paulina put her hands in front of her and said, "I just want to be friends with you, please don't mind, I won't hurt you." ”
Paulina brings up the word friend in front of Matilda, who she must say in order for Matilda to let her guard down.
"Friends?" Matilda muttered to herself.
"Yes, beautiful young lady." Paulina replied dryly.
Matilda didn't have any friends in New Orleans, and she was in dire need of someone of her own gender to act as a confidant, she thought for a moment, gradually raised her light brown eyes, and smiled in gratitude.
Matilda looked at Paulina carefully, not feeling terrible, but feeling a little pity for her, and she felt that Paulina's strange costume was shabby.
Judging from Paulina's appearance, Paulina is the same as her own figure, she wants to carefully select a few clothes for her to wear, if it is made to order in a tailor shop in New Orleans, it may take a long time to customize, after all, her clothes are hand-sewn by French aristocratic girls.
"What's your name? Where did it come from? Matilda wanted to know a little bit about Paulina.
Paulina stood in the doorway and replied, "My name is Paulina Denig, from Santo Domingo. ”
Matilda asked, "Santo Domingo?" In what place? ”
"It's close to here, on an island." Paulina walked forward slowly and said, "Hispaniola, have you heard of it?" ”
Matilda stared blankly at the ceiling for a moment, but she hadn't heard of it at all, and then she looked at Paulina and shook her head, saying, "I've never heard of it, and I don't know where it is." ”
Paulina leaned over to Matilda's side and held out her black hands to take Matilda's white hands, while lifting Matilda's hands to her neck, which she watched and caressed.
"Let's go, I'll take you there, the scenery is beautiful." Paulina began to carry Matilda out of the house.
"Paulina! Where are you taking me! Matilda felt a force, as if someone was pushing her forward, her hands and feet barely controlled, at Paulina's mercy.
"I'm going to take you away!!"
"Mr. Edward! Come and save me! Matilda exclaimed.
