Chapter 245: Those Involved
Mir commanded Cla's dress, and told her to go to the new house and change into the clothes Lisa had left behind in the room on the second floor.
Mir took the letterhead, then turned to the kitchen, stared at the food, and said, "Have you had breakfast?" β
"Nope." She replied slowly, "The food at the police station is not to my liking. β
"I've done it, it's just cold." Mir listened to Carat put on his clothes and said, "If you don't like it, I can simply warm them up, and besides, you need to help me bring them to my new house." β
"I'd love to."
"Are you dressed?"
"Dressed." Carah asked, "Aren't we dining here?" β
"We need to stay out of here, for the time being, and when the danger is gone, we can come back here."
"Is this your house? Mr. Edward. Carat looked around at the layout of the house and the style of its dΓ©cor.
Mir nodded and said, "Yes." β
"We need to get out of here quickly."
"I try."
Mir hurried to the new house with Carat with a plate full of food and wine.
However, when Mill stood at the door of the new house, he noticed that the door was unlocked, and he hesitated, fearing that someone else would come in the house, or that Ruili had forgotten to lock the door before heading to the New Orleans Inn.
"OMG!" Mill gently moved his foot through the crack in the door, stepped in and said, "This place seems to be even more messy than my home." β
Mill unhurriedly observed the dirty marks on the floor, and the bits of dust on the couch and seat.
"Who's upstairs?" Mir tilted his head and yelled at the second floor.
After a few seconds, Mill didn't hear anyone upstairs respond.
"They have already arrived in St. Louis, could it be that they left in a hurry before leaving?" Mir put all the heavy things in his hands on the table and said, "Do they have a new mission?" β
"What's wrong? Mr. Edward. Kra asked, seeing Mir's distraught look.
"Someone seems to have been in the room." There was a gut feeling lurking in Mir's mind, and the traces didn't look like they had left before they left.
"Is there no one living here?"
Mir told her: "Yes, before the capture of Omar, I'm not sure now, I don't think my men ever came back here." β
"You stay here first, I'll go up and have a look." Mir whispered to Kra, and immediately removed the flintlock pistol from his waist and crept to the second floor.
Mill fantasized that the person hiding upstairs might be Marcos, at least Marcos could make out his own timbre.
Mill walked around the second floor, and there was no one to be seen.
Extremely disappointed, he said, "Will Marcos also be missing?" Like Mr. Tabitt? β
However, as Mir stroked the handrail of the stairs with his hand, his eyes looked down and Carat's figure vanished.
His eyes finally fell on the table, and he found that the plates and the food were gone, except for a bottle of wine and two glasses, and he knew that Kra had gone to the kitchen to heat up the food briefly.
He could feel the sound of Kra's heartbeat, very gently, accompanied by the sound of small pieces in the kitchen.
He stopped, sat down on the steps of a staircase and began to think.
He thought that if Carl's wife's murderer was as difficult to catch as Omar, it might have delayed all the time before heading to Philadelphia.
Most importantly, Mir didn't know where to start his investigation into Carl's disappearance.
Although he had spoken to Chris that in the most dangerous places, a scene awaited what would happen.
No matter what time it is, the suspicious person will automatically jump out after all.
He wanted to speed up his investigation of the clues and try to get in time for Amos Stoddard's announcement at the police station, so that Mill could leave the case to Chris.
"Mr. Edward, I've reheated all the food, and all I can say is that the food loses some of its original flavor." Carat said as he brought food out of the kitchen.
Mill stood up and said, "It's okay, as long as you don't dislike the smell of them." β
"No, they're delicious."
"Thanks, we can enjoy our meal."
Mill continued, "I'm almost fainting from hunger, Carat. β
Mir sat down in his chair and said, "I wanted to have breakfast with Carl, but I didn't expect him to go missing. β
"Missing?"
"Yes."
"Or did you not look for him carefully?"
"No, I can feel all the heartbeats, anyone."
Kra turned her head and looked at Mir in horror: "What? Can you hear a person's heartbeat? Can I hear it directly without putting my face close to my chest? β
"Of course." Mir shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't need to resort to anything, just ears, as long as I want to hear..."
Mir still had two words left unspoken, and he was worried that Kra would have a strange opinion of him.
Think of yourself as an anomaly, or some kind of very perverted person.
"I can understand the general meaning." Kra chewed something in his mouth and said, "I wonder how you can tell." β
"I can't put it into words."
Mill pointed to his heart and said, "Use this to sense." β
"Can you feel everything? Including supernatural things. β
"I don't know, I've found that I can only sense a person's heartbeat, and ghosts don't have any heartbeat."
Mir took a sip of his wine and glanced at Kra and said, "I have a question. β
"What's the doubt?"
"How do you manage to block out your heartbeat?"
Carat shook her head, "I don't know. β
Mir thought that Carat was hiding something from him, and when he saw Carat undressed, especially the dazzling light, as holy as a beautiful woman in a painting, without a trace of blasphemy.
"Have you ever heard of the Muse?"
"Yes."
Mir touched his lips with the glass in his hand and said, "You are kind of like her." β
"Really?" As she ate, Carat said, "Is it a look?" β
"Hmm... When I'm not wearing clothes just now, it's as if it's carved out of the same mold. β
"That's... Do you still want to see it? She asked weakly.
Mir was very embarrassed and said, "I've seen it." β
"I know." Carat smiled and said, "I'm used to going undressed, especially at home, enjoying that kind of freedom, I told you in the interrogation room. β
"It's a pity that Abis can't taste it anymore."
"No, Carat, it's better not to taste that stuff any longer, the Ebis you drank was mixed with something else."
"Something else?" She asked, "What's that?" β
"Pills."
"Oh! No! Carat exclaimed, "I'm starting to hate it." β
"Love and hate it." Kra's gaze stared blankly ahead, reminiscing about the thrilling past with Omar.
"Carat, there's no need to think about the past, now is your new hope."
Mill said, "I'm going to need to train you to be my assistant and help me investigate leads. β
"Me?" Kra looked at Mir in surprise and asked incredulously.
"Yes."
"I'm not interested in investigating leads, and I don't have any talent to speak of."
"I used to be a maid who was sold into the slave market, although I had a different skin color from them," she said.
"Do you want to go back there?" Mill interrupted her.
"No, I'll never go back." She sighed and said, "I don't have any talent, and I wish I could do something else on the so-called investigation." β
"Your house, and here, they don't seem to have been cleaned in a long time, and I can be my maid unconditionally, just as a reward for a new hope, even if it is every night when it comes."
"Please get dressed, Carat." Mir warns her: "I am not giving you new hope, not for you to do the same thing as serving Omar, I am not like him." β
"It's not difficult at all." Mill spread his hands and said, "Don't worry, I will never give you a difficult task, I just need you to do it according to my requirements, practice makes perfect, can you understand?" β
"I can try."
"Good, you still need to get used to it."
"I'm not going to let you follow me when it's very dangerous." Mir muttered, "If only Marcos showed up at this time." β
Mir began to plan to wait for breakfast and take Carol to Carol's house again, so that Kra could feel the scene after being murdered, so that Kra could be prepared.
By the way, he got into a carriage and rushed to Father Cavendish to ask why Karl disappeared out of thin air.
Mir could only turn to Father Cavendish for help, and perhaps learn some relevant information from Father Cavendis's mouth.
There was also Jacques, and Mir felt that Jacques's survival was no accident.
Mir suddenly thought of Gainor, who was supposed to pass by the house where Gavenor lived on his way to Father Cavenish.
So much so that if Omar doesn't finish something, there will always be a latter who will take over Omar's next moves.
All of these people involved are extremely important clues, and Mill doesn't want them to disappear one by one.
As long as they also encounter the strange disappearance of Karl, Father Cavendish will intervene in anger, after all, Father Cavendish is a great threat to them.
"I'm full, Mr. Edward."
"I saw Ruili's newly bought clothes and skirts upstairs."
Mir said, "Change for the time being, and when we have set out, when we pass the tailor's shop on the way, you can choose some other clothes, and try not to wear a dress." β
Mir fears that Kra's looks and stature will be noticeable, and that Tramps, scavengers, or hypocritical gentlemen, whatever they approach Carat with some purpose, Mir needs to find a way to avoid it.
