Chapter 55: Welcome to Stanford
Butch Young, an investigator at Pinkerton's office, licked his somewhat dry lips as he flipped through the stack of Lotus employee profiles handed to him by his colleagues.
If the detective industry also has the special title of white shoes, which represents the elite, then there are probably only two firms in the entire United States that are qualified to get it.
One of them is Pinkerton, founded in 1850 and known as the "American Private Bureau of Investigation".
Thanks to Pinkerton's firm stance on the side of the government and capitalists since the day it was founded, their business has been thriving for more than 100 years.
The most important job is to help the government disrupt all kinds of rallies and demonstrations that people try to criticize the government, such as in the Black Panther Party incident, the assassination of the Western Absentee Federation in the United States, the Colorado Labor War, the Blair Hill Labor Uprising and many other strikes or demonstrations, accept the employment of the government or capitalists, act as labor spies to infiltrate the union, provoke trade union infighting, sabotage various strikes launched by workers, and even act as saboteurs, thugs and assassins at critical moments.
Between 1865 and 1931, the Pinkerton firm even had a private police force in Pennsylvania that was responsible for helping Pennsylvania's major coal mining companies suppress or kill any disgruntled workers.
"I really envy my colleagues a hundred years ago, even the judges had to pat their ass, they said that whoever is a criminal, the court will obediently hang whomever they want." Butch looked at the information and said boredly: "Rookie, you chose the wrong line, Pinkerton today is no longer as beautiful as a hundred years ago, and now we can't even call ourselves detectives, but call ourselves investigators." β
"I think this guy is most likely willing to work with us." Butch probably flipped through it, then picked out a document and read it for two minutes, then threw it in front of his rookie companion.
"Bobby Black?" My companion picked up the document and read it, his face blank.
According to this profile, this guy is half Vietnamese, graduated from Northeastern University of Massachusetts with a degree in electrical engineering, and joined Lotus after graduation.
"I don't quite understand what makes you think he's willing to help us, Mr. Younger?" Butch's companion, a rookie who had just obtained his PI (Private Investigator) license, asked curiously.
Although Pinkerton has an office in Boston, Butch Younger is a figure that Delia Kester has summoned from Pinkerton's headquarters in Michigan, and when he learns that Butch has arrived, the local office immediately sends him, the best newcomer in the office, to help Butch as an assistant, hoping that he can learn a few tricks from this gold medal detective.
If you only look at the image of this old guy, you would never think that this guy is paid as much as two hundred dollars an hour, which is the same as the hourly wage of those well-known lawyers, while the other investigators in Pinkerton's Boston office are only fifty dollars an hour.
"This little Vietnamese mongrel, whose address is written in the Vietnamese community, looks at the half-yellow and half-black mixed-race appearance in his photo, and knows that Blake's surname must have been chosen by her mother, and he must have an unaccounted black soldier as his father, maybe it was because of his ugly appearance that her mother was able to get a visa to live in the United States when he was ten years old." Butch lit a cigarette and continued:
"He went to Northeastern University, but he didn't get a full scholarship, which shows that her mother's small business in the United States should be good, I don't believe that she can use eight years to turn herself a Vietnamese refugee into an American middle class who can afford her son to go to a private university, either to participate in human snakes, or to help smugglers, as long as you investigate carefully, you will definitely be able to find clues, as long as you find it, it will be much easier, tell this stupid *, either we will hand over the information to the FBI and send your mother to prison, or you are now on the side of justice, Help us get your boss. β
The rookie paused for a moment, then asked, "That's how you work?" β
"This is the way Pinkerton has always adhered to the way of working since its establishment 143 years ago, ensuring that the target audience has the right to choose." Butch said in an indifferent tone: "You have to pinch those people's eggs before they are willing to listen to your request." β
The rookie shrugged: "Okay, what are we going to do to pinch this Bobby Black egg?" Looking for an Asian face to blend in with the Vietnamese community? β
"Nope." Butch looked at the rookie and pointed at himself: "I'll go myself, I'll go to that neighborhood to rent a room, from now on, I'm a Vietnam veteran, looking for my former lover or possible living children, this identity as a veteran can make the Vietnamese there identify with me, and then collect information about Bobi's mother from their mouths, and finally visit her again, as long as she says the wrong thing, it's enough to send myself in." β
"But...... Are you sure you can deal with the Vietnamese? The companion looked at Butch and asked worriedly.
This guy is full of racism, and if he goes to the Vietnamese community, he may be easily beaten to death by the Vietnamese on the same day.
"Of course, in 1965, I participated in the Vietnam War, I am a real Vietnam War veteran, I know how to deal with Vietnamese women, but I don't want to find relatives, if I want to find, at least a dozen Vietnamese women have helped me have children, but who the wants to have a bunch of emotionless illegitimate children to share their poor net worth?" Butch extinguished the cigarette butt and grinned cruelly at the rookie:
"What happened in Vietnam, it ended in Vietnam, we helped Vietnam increase the birth rate, not only did they not appreciate us, these damn Vietnamese women came to the United States with their children, they didn't love their homeland at all, they didn't love their homeland, they were going to be punished, we did the right thing, that is, to pry open Bobby Black's mouth, as long as the mouth of the first person was pried open, and then there were as many mouths as there were, we will pry open."
β¦β¦
"Our investigators got Jim Manz's itinerary, which showed that Jim Manz had flown to California for a two-day stay at a software trade fair." Delia sat in the cafΓ© at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco and handed Tommy Hawke a document in her hand: "Normal business practices. β
Tommy Hawke handed the information to Susan Curtis next to him: "Susan, give the picture of this guy to the senior girls of the entertainment company, see if there is any news of this guy having fun, if not, choose a few girls who like to commit perjury and have a hard enough mouth to splash his dirty water, in short, I hope the court will see the information that the actor helps the prostitute to change her mind and reintegrate into society, and the president of the Lotus company tramples on the dignity of women." β
"Okay." Susan took the information, said yes, and then smiled at Delia and got up to leave.
Delia looked at Susan's departing figure and said, "Of your four companions, only she and the one named Jason believe in you completely, and the other two have been shaken." β
"I know, rest assured, now they won't waver again." Tommy took a sip of his coffee, "Is there anything else new from Lotus?" β
"The soft art company gave a bad testimony to Lotus, after all, Lotus robbed their business back then, and they certainly didn't want to waste it if they had the opportunity to fall into the hole at this time, and Mitch Kapoor accidentally said in front of me that he had exchanged computer technology with his friend who worked as a development engineer in the soft art company, this sentence in my eyes is equivalent to Mitch Kapoor exploring the trade secrets of the soft art company, if they want to refute it, the amount of proof required will be very amazing." Delia looked at Tommy with her eyes and said calmly.
Noticing Delia's gaze, Tommy responded by giving the other a smile: "Are Mitch Kapoor and Jonathan okay lately?" β
"Maybe it's not good, after all, who is it, every morning when I wake up, there are more than a dozen cheap prostitutes holding signs standing outside the house, go to the company, there are more than a dozen cheap prostitutes holding signs outside the company, and they are not in a good mood, two nerds are scolded all day long for robbing jobs with prostitutes, and the investigator said that these two guys have begun to contact the psychologist and are ready to conduct psychological counseling twice a week, and the investigator will find a way to get their conversation materials with the psychologist." Delia thought for a moment and said to Tommy:
"Speaking of which, the two founders of Lotus are much less psychologically qualified than Jim Manz, a professional manager."
Tommy nodded with satisfaction: "Go on, increase your efforts until they no longer need a psychiatrist, but a psychiatrist, to convince them that they are robbing the prostitute's job and doing the wrong thing." β
"Back to the question you skimmed earlier, Mr. Tommy Hawke." Delia stared into Tommy's eyes: "I don't know what method you used, but your tone of voice affirmatively told me that my companion who was wavering in my heart is now firm again, which makes me feel that I was not very friendly when I first met you." β
"Lawyer Case, can we get down to business? I didn't think there was anything wrong with meeting for the first time, and I was certainly very excited. Tommy said with a blank face, "Let's continue to talk about work, shall we?" β
"Nope." Delia took out her handbag, took out a check from it, and pushed it in front of Tommy: "The investigators' fees need to be paid normally, but my commission can be returned to you, of course, the precedent belongs to me." β
Tommy gave a harmless look of surprise, "What are you talking about?" Case lawyer? You deserve it, I'm not stingy, whether it's precedents or money, it's all yours. β
"You are a man with means, Tommy, your means of controlling your companions make me a little worried, the only thing I can guess is probably that they have all taken your money, which shows that taking your money requires a lot of price, and obviously, the way I cooperated at the beginning was a bit sloppy, because I despised you at the time, and chose precedent and money to want it all, when we first met, I thought of you as a college student, but now, I think of you as a mature man of my own age." Delia smiled and said to Tommy:
"Hopefully my discovery isn't too late."
Tommy still looked at Delia with a puzzled face, trying to convince the other party that he was a simple college student, but Delia shook her head slightly: "Don't pretend anymore, Tommy, lawyers need to be proficient in psychology, when I really make up my mind to notice you, no matter how superb your acting skills are, you can't hide it from me." β
"Whew~" Tommy sighed, looked down at the check, and pushed it to Delia again: "When did you start noticing?" β
Delia took out a cigarette and skillfully held it in her mouth: "When I thoroughly understood the information of the Actor company and discovered your methods from beginning to end, and then I exchanged information with Sophia on a daily basis, the other party's reaction was also a little strange, so, as I guessed, replace me, destroy me, and find another lawyer who doesn't charge money?" β
"I'm sorry, it's too late, Attorney Case." Seeing the other party's appearance, Tommy simply put away his expression and looked at Delia calmly: "I did have the idea of replacing you, it's not that you didn't do well enough, but I need another team of lawyers who don't charge money to help me complete another thing." β
Delia laughed: "It's really hard to imagine, you're just a college student, if I want to avoid being replaced by you, and ensure that I participate in this precedent case throughout the whole process, I need to pay to help you work?" β
"Ms. Case, I like your vigorous and resolute work attitude, of course, I also hope that in the end it will be you who will stand with me in the courtroom and complete all this, but I have promised the other party that I will be true to my word." Tommy took out the lighter, lit the flame, handed it over to help Delia light the cigarette in his mouth, and said:
"Or, if you insist on staying and being a part of it, then I need to sell it once, and you can keep the check as proceeds from the sale."
Delia was silent for a few seconds before she spoke, "You're going to sell me to Stanford Law School and work as a guest lecturer at the law school for how many classes per semester?" β
"Aren't you arrogant when your mind turns so fast?" Tommy lowered his head depressedly, picked up his coffee and stirred: "Can you recover and become the same as in your office, that is, with a slightly pointed chin, facing me?" β
Delia raised her chin slightly, cocked her left leg, and smiled at Tommy, "So? β
Tommy smiled and nodded: "That's right, your name came to Stanford Law School as a visiting professor, of course Stanford University will be happy, and then you can continue to serve as the lead lawyer in this case, and those lawyers from Stanford will not complain, they are all happy." β
"So I can still accept this check, after all, it's now my sale money? And you help Stanford find an unpaid visiting professor of law...... Shitβ¦β¦ What I just said is also in your calculations. As soon as the smile on Delia's face appeared, her pupils suddenly shrank slightly, and she stared at Tommy Hawk:
"You know I'm not an idiot, sooner or later I will find out your abilities and means, and then talk openly and honestly to you about it, so you waited for me early and was willingly sold by you."
Tommy rolled his eyes in confusion and stretched out his hand to Delia: "The money is yours, and the people are mine, so, is the cooperation pleasant?" β
Delia looked at Tommy, suddenly laughed, and shook Tommy's hand: "Of course. β
"Welcome to Stanford." Tommy squeezed Delia's palm slightly, then let go, opened his arms and said, "Now we are a family." β
