Volume 1 – Ouroboros and Black Irises Chapter 1 Preface to Remnant Dreams
In this small black space, there is the darkness of a confinement room, and the dead silence of a morgue. It is as if there is an atmosphere that is closest to the edge of hell in the world, and those who exist here will surely be swaying inside. Of course, it doesn't look like there will be any trace of a human being in this "black box".
However, as if to adapt to this strange and eerie atmosphere, two figures, one tall and one short, suddenly appeared in the center of the room.
The tall man is about 1.9 meters, and he has surpassed most adults just by his height. He was holding a long, moon-arc-shaped object that seemed to be a knife. Standing next to the man was a child of about 1.5 meters. The latter, holding the knife in one hand and the back of the other tightly in the other, held his head motionless.
Soon, the tall figure vanished, leaving only the frail body in this eerie space. The figure remained motionless, like a stone statue, without the slightest trembling. And in the blink of an eye, the child was instantly surrounded by several figures of different heights and sizes. Each of them had a knife in their hands, and they slowly leaned towards the child. Although everyone was like a black shadow, in such a close situation, it seemed as if anyone could see the distorted smile under the dark shadow, and the sharp blade that seemed to shine with a cold light in everyone's hand.
The boy in the middle, who had kept his head down, finally made a move, and his body seemed to tremble, but soon, it stopped again. After an instant, everyone raised the sharp blades in their hands and slashed towards the figure one after another. The sound of tears and punctures followed, and a large cloud of shadows instantly enveloped the entire small space, and finally, everything turned into illusion and disappeared.
At this moment, Ling Yun, who was both a visitor and a bystander, closed his eyes as if he had fallen into a coma. However, he was not unconscious, on the contrary, his senses were extremely acute at this time. He could clearly feel the force of gravity, and he knew that he was currently suspended in the air with his back to the ground, in a "large" shape, while his limbs hung limply. Ling Yun felt that there was a strange force supporting his back, allowing him to "stay in the air".
The power was indescribable, as if it had penetrated his skin and poured into his body. And it seems that in the depths of his heart, this power has an unspoken familiarity, not gentle, but definitely not rough. The strange feeling made him want to close his eyes and feel quietly at the moment, greedy for a little more of this familiar and strange time.
As time passed, the power of the support on his back gradually dissipated, and disappeared as gently as a breeze. Ling Yun, who was gradually conscious, slowly opened his eyes, but what greeted him was not a familiar ceiling, but pitch black. He lowered his head in astonishment, realizing that he was stepping on the void, and the darkness around him like an abyss was the void that represented "nothingness".
"Here?"
Ling Yun subconsciously recited, but no voice responded to him, even his own voice would fade away in this nothingness. Ling Yun stared at the void at the bottom of his feet, swallowing as if he was worried that he would fall into the void if he took a step forward. Ling Yun, who didn't dare to move at all, had to bend down and reach out to touch the ground, trying to confirm whether it existed.
"Wake up--"
As soon as Ling Yun was about to touch the ground, he heard a familiar voice ringing in his ears, which startled him and immediately straightened his back, looked around and shouted loudly around:
"Who!?"
Naturally, no voice chose to respond to him. Ling Yun stared cautiously into the chaotic darkness, but he couldn't find any useful ingredients. Gradually, his eyes ached. It was because I had been peeking in the darkness for too long that I began to get tired.
"Uh....."
Ling Yun closed his eyes and rubbed back and forth a little harder for a while.
"Wake up--"
"Wake up--"
The familiar voice suddenly sounded as if it couldn't be stopped, and it was clearer now. But Ling Yun was never able to recall whose voice it was, nor could he detect the source of the voice. He only felt that the sound seemed to come from all directions, and every time he turned his head to an angle, it felt like the voice was always behind him.
"What the hell..."
Ling Yun was a little impatient in his heart, although in this strange space, he didn't perceive the existence of a threat, but it was not a way to consume it like this here.
"Click--"
Another strange sound sounded, what seemed to be the sound of something shattering. However, this time the sound was much more three-dimensional than before, and Ling Yun raised his head along the sound source. I saw that a crack appeared in the pitch-black space above the "sky", and the light poured out of the crack, and the white light like salvation shone into this dark space. Soon, the crack gradually expanded, and the black barrier fell little by little, like crow feathers, scattered pieces of it, piled up on the ground, Ling Yun's gaze was attracted by the light, he covered the strong light with one hand, half-squinted his eyes, and looked at the other side of the light indistinctly. Vaguely, Ling Yun seemed to see a figure, which was also familiar and unfamiliar. So he wanted to shout loudly into another pure white space, but what he didn't expect was that the other party spoke first:
"It's still a little bit, wake up quickly, and quickly recall your duty."
As the words fell, the light burst out in an instant, dazzling like the sun, and the entire dark space was instantly filled with its brilliance. Ling Yun closed his eyes, but he could still clearly see the pure sparkle brought by the light penetrating his eyelids.
"Drip~Drip~Drip-Drip~Drip~Drip-"
"Meow~Meow~"
The piercing alarm clock rang in Ling Yun's room, and in the darkness, a cat with orange and white hair was lying on his chest across Ling Yun's quilt, curled up in a ball, comfortably enjoying the warmth, rising and falling with his even breathing.
"Uhhhh.....h What...."
Ling Yun seemed to sense that something was wrong, and whispered softly. Under the screeching sound of the alarm clock, I gradually woke up from my sleep. Of course, he had forgotten the dream at this point, but he was sure that it would not be a pleasant dream. He slowly stretched his hand out of the bed, and with his subconscious and muscle memory turned off the bedside alarm clock, giving him a little respite.
Although Ling Yun didn't sleep very well, his drowsiness was not very strong now. It's just that my head is a little dizzy, and I feel like I've been awakened by something in a dream, and my heart has been "pounding" non-stop, as if it is a sign that something bad is about to happen. He reached out and pressed the switch next to the bed, and the lamp hanging from the ceiling instantly burst into a strong light. Ling Yun, who was no longer sleepy, sat up straight with the soft sheets. The orange cat also landed on his lap with Ling Yun's up, Ling Yun stared at the somewhat obese orange cat with a speechless face, and said:
"Others say that sleeping under heavy weight is a nightmare, and it seems that there is a basis for it."
"Meow~"
As if to refute Ling Yun's words, the orange cat turned its head and barked at him.
"I said why I'm a little out of breath, are you getting fatter, Tangerine."
Ling Yun stretched out his hand and picked up the cat that was lying comfortably on his stomach and chest before, with soft hair and docile character, coupled with this somewhat rounded figure, it was obviously just an ordinary pastoral cat, and it was not an exaggeration to say that it was Garfield.
"Meow?"
The holding orange man stretched his neck and poked his head out, making a cry like a puzzle, as if asking Ling Yun: Where is the master?
"Sleep on you, I've got to go to school."
Ling Yun stroked Tangerine's head, and the latter seemed to like this feeling very much, and its two ears instantly fell limply to the sides. However, as soon as Ling Yun finished speaking, he put Tangerine Min aside. The moment it let go, it kept "meowing", as if it hadn't enjoyed it. Of course, Ling Yun naturally didn't have much spare time for him to pet the cat, and he had to go to school as soon as possible. Although the feeling of being hit by cold air when you poke out of the quilt is very painful, it is much more cost-effective than being late for school.
Ling Yun, who was shallow but somewhat groggy from sleep, walked into the toilet tiredly, and the mirror of the sink reflected his appearance: tired eyes as if he had stayed up late, and messy hair. Ling Yun brushed his teeth while staring at himself in the mirror. After staring at it for a long time, the scenery in front of him seemed to coincide with a scene in Ling Yun's mind in the past, stimulating the memories that seemed to be sealed in his mind. A sharp ringing like tinnitus echoed in Ling Yun's ears, and he only felt something going back and forth in his head, touching some existence that was somewhat shaky.
"Wow--"
Ling Yun picked up a handful of water and slapped it on his face, the icy tap water mixed with the cold cold air pierced his cheeks like a rain of swords, giving this trance brain a powerful awakening agent. Then he soaked the towel with hot water, and the moist heat covered his face, and for a while the warmth came to his face, making him a little reluctant to put it down. But soon, the heat of the towel was lost in the air, and the temperature dropped instantly.
"Almost."
Ling Yun straightened his hair a little, ready to simply have breakfast and go to school, he walked into the empty dark living room, reached out and turned on the electric light on the side. Although the living room is not large, it is a bit spacious for one person. Ling Yun walked straight to the small kitchen next to the living room, came to the refrigerator, and picked up the breakfast that had been purchased last night, after Ling Yun put the things in the microwave oven and heated them, he directly put them into a white plastic bag, ready to solve the breakfast while going on the road.
"Meow~"
Tachibana's voice came from his room, and the orange cat, which was as round as a ball of meat, swaggered out of the room with its tail down.
"Take care of the house, I'm going to class."
Ling Yun said to the only occupant of the house besides him. Tang Min stood still, looked at Lingyun's direction and "meowed" a few times, and then walked leisurely towards the sofa in the living room, probably saying: Don't worry, leave it to the master. However, its destination is the automatic cat feeder next to the sofa, and the small ceramic bowl is already automatically filled with cat food on time.
Ling Yun smiled, and took one last look at the quiet living room, which became even quieter when the lights were turned off. Although Ling Yun has long been accustomed to this kind of solitary life and has learned to find solace in this life, it is inevitable that his heart will be a little empty after a long time. Ling Yun pushed open the door, and the smell of frost was lower than the indoor temperature, which made him goosebumps. The sky was not completely bright at this time, and Ling Yun really had no other way to keep out the cold, so he had to pick up the steaming buns, and solve his breakfast while warming up, and at the same time let out a cold breath and said helplessly:
"Winter is coming~"
After Ling Yun finished speaking, he walked towards the stairs, his house was on the third floor, so there was no need to wait for the elevator slowly, although there was more time. The boy disappeared around the corner of the stairs, but a strange blue light flickered in the corridor behind him, and the glimmer was even slowly swaying. But it didn't give people time to react, and it quietly crashed into the door of Ling Yun's house and disappeared strangely......
