Chapter 31: Dragon and Lion Cliff 3
The sun moved like a snail in anticipation, and everyone could only wait patiently. When the mountain peaks finally blocked out the sunlight, the dark shadows spread, and the valley was half dark and half day. Elf Leah walked quickly down the slope without a sound with a light step, and there was not a trace of dust on the ground. Dio followed, clutching the axe in his mouth, and striding down. He sometimes uses his strong arms to prop himself up on the ground, and with each exertion he will rush forward.
Siegel dragged the dwarf and used brute force to help Elint increase his speed. The dwarf weighed a lot when he put on his full body armor, and the cloth bags on his feet were silent but more likely to stir up dust. Siegel helps the dwarves share the weight to minimize this effect.
Listening to the dwarf's heavy panting, Siegel added another strain to his arm. The dwarf's body was beginning to lose track of his fighting spirit, but Elint herself didn't admit it.
Leah ran as she took off her longbow from her back. With a whoosh, a white-feathered arrow shot through the window. At the same time as the shouts of surprise "enemy attack" were heard from the watchtower, the brute had already smashed open the wooden door and rushed into the tower in a flying debris.
Finally able to spit out the throwing axe in his mouth, Dio was about to be suffocated. "Blessing the Aragami, Death Bull Divine Power!Kill!" a deafening battle cry rang out from the tower.
"Go, Siegel!" the dwarf gave him a thrust and panted, "That brute has forgotten everything when he's crazy, go get two alive!"
"Okay!" Siegel let go of the dwarf and burst out with incredible speed. With a scimitar in his right hand and a net in his left, he strode towards the watchtower.
Out of the broken wooden door came a man, dressed in featureless inlaid leather armor and unarmed in both hands. Siegel looked at it with a slight distraction, and found that the man's skull had been flattened by a giant wooden stick, and there was absolutely no hope of survival.
Leah stood outside the window, bending her bow and arrows to cover the barbarians fighting inside. When she saw Siegel rushing up, she shouted, "There's a skeleton warrior inside, don't smash it!"
Siegel didn't understand why, and had already rushed into the watchtower. There were two corpses inside, one that had been pierced through the throat by an arrow, and the other that had been cut in half by a curved broadsword. There are also three men besieging Dio, two nimble humans and a mad dwarf. Siegel noticed a moving skeleton in the corner of the room, swinging his spear around. It had been trying to join the warband, but it had been slow to move and was always stopped by the three men.
Before anyone could react, Siegel quickly threw the net out, covering the human who had circled around Dio's back. The man whirled on the ground, tugging at the net with both hands, trying to get out. Siegel would not let him get his wish, and he took two steps and slammed the man's temple with the hilt of his scimitar, knocking him unconscious.
A throwing knife flew towards Siegel's side, and was knocked away by Leah's arrow. The man pulled out three more throwing knives and circled to the place near the wooden door, where it was impossible to aim through the window. Siegel held the knife in both hands, making a nervous look, and watched the three throwing knives carefully.
"Boy, it's strange that you dare to go against me......!
Before he could finish speaking, a battering ram slammed into his side. The "King of Darts" hung a large cloud of dust on the wall, and bounced twice on the ground, spitting blood from his mouth, leaving only the ability to convulse. The "battering ram" blocked the entire gate, and shouted majestically: "Who killed my brother?"
The last dwarven raider, seeing that he was surrounded by enemies, seemed to be unconcerned, and attacked Dio even more frantically. He uttered a strange shout from his mouth, completely ignoring the wounds on his body, and only knew how to attack with the greatest force. Dio also seemed to be aroused, and the giant wooden rod collided violently with the enemy's mace, making a dull loud noise.
"You traitor!" said Elint, furious, throwing the hammer in her hand with all her might. The hammer swirled around the room, radiating a crimson glow. Sensing the threat of death, the dwarf seemed to regain a little of his senses and raised his mace to try to dodge the blow. But the Gem Clan's powerful magical weapon directly shattered the mace as easily as breaking a toothpick. In the rising flames, the hammer smashed the dwarf's face bones before flying back into Elinth's hands.
The barbarian held a wooden stick and watched the enemy fall in front of him, only to feel that this battle was completely unenjoyable. He happened to see the skeleton soldier in the corner of the room, licked his lips, and shouted, "It's good to keep one!" and was about to pounce.
Siegel remembered the elven master's words and hurriedly hugged Dio's waist. Despite being dragged and staggering two steps, Siegel still managed to pull the brute back, "Don't smash the skeleton yet, something is wrong!"
After the brute stopped, the power of the rage gradually faded from his body, and his brain became a little better. He also realized that something was wrong: although the skeleton had been trying to attack the "intruders" in the house with weapons, he never left the wall more than a meter away.
Leah walked in and said to everyone, "Don't kill this skeleton, or its owner will be sensitive." β
"So there's an evil spellcaster behind this?" "Elint looked at the dead dwarf's arm on the ground, which had the imprint of a broken warhammer on it. Elliette looked disgusted, and then spat on the ground: "Phew! Sure enough, it's an exiled dwarf, a slut from the Old World!"
"Let's ask this guy in the net. Leah shook her head and said, "You two guys are still ruthless, and your brains are hot. As a result, only Siegel can remember what to do, otherwise he won't even be able to catch a tongue. β
"That's right, we're all a little too excited. The dwarf stroked his beard and stepped on the creature in the net, stomping lightly a few times. The man slowly woke up, and found that the flaming hammer was a finger away from his nose, and he could clearly feel the hairs curling under the influence of the heat. He hurriedly said: "Surrender, surrender!"
The interrogation was done by the dwarves alone, with Dio carrying back the belongings that had been placed under the hillside, and Siegel cleaning up the battlefield. This was the first time he had really executed a battle plan - he had been attacked or unexpected before. He likes the feeling of being able to get the action done smoothly when the plan is executed correctly.
After a while, the dwarf came out, his face very solemn. He beckoned everyone together and said, "It's a little complicated. These crumbs were hired to do some things in the corners. I think our treasure may be being targeted. β
"Who could it be?" asked Leah.
"Some of the spellcasters and mercenary guards came here ten days ago and used spell cover to raid the watchtower. They still have a camp ahead, and this is just a façade. The tongue didn't know anything else, I tried, and he couldn't recall the exact details of the hirer. I'm guessing his brain was manipulated by the caster. The dwarf stomped his feet angrily, slammed his fists together, and said, "These damn magicians, either tampering with memories or manipulating necromancy, are not good things!"
"What's next?" Leah asked, "The caster is not easy to deal with. β
The barbarian was naturally not afraid of any battle, and as soon as he was about to speak, he was stopped by the dwarf. Irint looked at Siegel, grabbed the young man's wrists with both hands, and said to him, "Child, the front is very dangerous, and it is no longer a simple treasure hunt. You are just beginning on this path and should not suddenly face such dangers. My suggestion is that you stay here and watch this captive. I've promised him to keep him alive as long as he cooperates, but I'm also worried that he'll escape and expose our whereabouts, so someone is needed here. β
Siegel thought for a moment and nodded. He walked into the room without saying a word, with his head bowed. Elent spread her hands and said helplessly: "This is also for his good, he is still too young." β
Suddenly the shouts of the captives rang out from the tower: "What are you doing, what are you doing with a rope......?" It hurts!" The brute pointed to the watchtower and asked suspiciously, "Siegel won't kill the captive, does he?"
The voice quickly fell silent, and Siegel walked out, looking relaxed. "I've completed my duty as a guard, and that man will never run away to report the news. I tied a special knot and learned it from the boat. He only needs to struggle once to tighten the rope, and twice to strangle himself to death. I showed him what the rope does, and he made it clear that he would never move. And both my mind and soul told me that I should face difficulties with my peers. Even if you knock me out, I'll look for you when I wake up. β
The dwarf breathed a sigh of relief, this was the Siegel he liked, and Ellint gave Siegel a thumbs up. Dio was more interested in another thing, and kept asking, "Can you teach me how to tie that rope?"
They climbed up the desolate mountain road, carefully hiding their bodies as they went, and in this way they made their way for a whole day, and finally reached their destination. Longshi Cliff is a relatively independent lonely cliff in the whole mountain range, protruding from the main mountain, like a platform throne overlooking the valley. There are only two roads to go up, both of which are very steep stone trails. One of them was destroyed by a landslide a long time ago and is impassable. The other road is still usable, but the entrance to the road is occupied by a camp.
The camp was not fenced, but was patrolled back and forth by six archers and spearmen. Five bright red tents surround the camp, they are decorated with silvery-white fringes, small triangular chess pieces are hung, and the flags do not have any coat of arms on them - this is very strange and attracts everyone's attention. In the center of the camp, there is a cremation pile, and the raging fire can be seen devouring the corpses inside. Two men in black robes stood beside the fire, waving their arms in strange gestures. The black smoke from burning the corpse rose only ten meters before losing its color and completely dissipating into the transparent air. No wonder the group didn't notice the smoke column from a distance.
