Volume 1 The Philosopher's Stone Chapter 42 Conversation

"What do you want from the Dark Side of the Moon?"

Martin asked, staring into the eyes of the fat Pleis.

For the first time, Pleschis looked surprised when he heard Martin's words, but the surprise was fleeting.

He narrowed his eyes slightly, and his face was devoid of the smile he had before, which seemed to be his norm compared to the somewhat hypocritical enthusiasm he had had before.

Like a rattlesnake that has been stepped on by its tail, he said in a cold tone:

"It's not something you need to know."

"Mr. Martin, you are a smart man, and smart people know how to make a choice."

"Smart people just know more information, and I feel like walking over a cliff blindfolded right now."

Martin played dumb riddles like a fat man.

"So, is your choice a refusal?" Pleis cast his gaze, and the air seemed to freeze at this moment.

"Nope." Martin smiled.

"I promise to join."

"But at the same time, I want to know, what kind of shelter [the Shepherd Club] can offer me?"

He didn't care about Maria's revenge, and he didn't care much about when he would be able to pay off his debts, which was all for later, and now he was hunted down by the royal family.

Rather than stay in hiding and live in fear, join a powerful force, which of course must be able to stand up to the royal family, or at least provide some degree of protection for its subordinate members.

That's what Martin thinks at the moment.

And the Shepherds' Club, or the Garden of Eden, is a more ideal force.

He had previously met a member of the Shepherd's Club from Johnny the Meat Eater, who provided the Sweet Pocket that Johnny had turned into after his death to the auction house, and the Sunflower Carriage was able to publicly auction off the murderous item.

Thinking of the public auction of the population, the Garden of Eden seems to be a special organization independent of each country, but it maintains a certain degree of cooperation with the state apparatus, just like the relationship between the Sunflower Carriage and the Archon of Cavides.

So the first thing Martin wanted to know was what kind of shelter this largest auction house in the Mir continent could provide to its subordinate members.

Plesches was a little stunned when he heard this answer, as if he did not expect Martin to ask such a question.

He quickly recovered, covered up his gaffe with a smile, closed the notebook in his hand and continued:

"If you're still worried about Mary's revenge, you don't have to."

Martin exhaled quietly, he had just worried that Pleishis would think he was playing tricks on him, but pointing out the [Dark Side of the Moon] was what he had to do to fight for the chips, and he was also gambling.

Fortunately, he was right.

"Not to mention the power of the [Garden of Eden], the [Shepherds' Club], as an organization established for more than 300 years, provides maximum protection for its subordinate members."

Plesis didn't know what Martin was thinking, and continued to introduce.

"After all, the work that the club is engaged in is easy to provoke all forces, from the royal families of various countries to the major secret organizations, they have all had festivals with the club."

"And the fact that we still exist in Kavides, in the various megacities of the Mir Continent, is the best proof of the strength of the [Garden of Eden]."

Pleis said as he pushed his gold-rimmed glasses again.

Martin caught the phrase "royal families", and it seems that his prediction of [the Garden of Eden] was correct.

"In that case, aren't you worried that other organizations will join forces to overthrow you, or that there will be members of other organizations mixed in?"

Martin grasped the contradiction and asked, what he really wanted to know was the selection of members in the second half of the sentence, after all, he didn't want to be found out in the "backtracking" stage before entering the club.

"Enemies are temporary, Mr. Martin. Only Gold Light Coins are eternal. ”

Pleishis replied nonchalantly.

"It's more of a partnership between us and the major powers, after all, we all love shiny gems and yellow gold coins."

"Of course there will be spies in the club, and even all kinds of speculators and even fugitives in disguise, but so what? In terms of gems and gold, [Garden of Eden] has absolute voice and control, and the club is just a [black glove] to carry out tasks. ”

"As long as you complete the mission, you are the most loyal member of the club. In front of the gold coin, personal secrets are not worth mentioning. ”

He leaned back in his chair, took off his glasses and began to wipe them with a soft cloth, and Martin found that the fat man's facial features were actually very handsome, and if he lost weight, he would also be an eye-catching middle-aged man like Sir Horn.

At this point, he basically got the answer he wanted, and he began to seriously consider the possibility of joining the club.

"You mentioned that the work of the club is easy to provoke, so what is the daily work of the club?" Martin continued.

Plechis did not answer immediately, and straightened up at the hearing, and the question seemed to arouse his desire to express himself.

"To put it simply, it's about collecting magical items."

"After the Holy Light was cleared, the various ancient xenocivilizations and 16 [Polluter] decks left countless magical cards, most of which merged with various gems and existed in the form of magical items."

"Although most of these items were obtained by the royal family, the church, and the secret forces, they also gave birth to a large number of treasure hunters, and these treasure hunters formed some organizations and forces, which is the origin of [Eden]."

"Imagine all kinds of cards that have polluting effects among the people, the ruins of civilizations of various different species, cult organizations that rely on [Pollution Cards] to achieve their own goals, hidden forces, and big families..."

"At that time, the War of the Holy Light had just ended, and the official forces always did not take into account the cleanup of the remaining xenomorphs and the pollution incidents that occurred in various places, so they cooperated with the private treasure hunters, and the Garden of Eden also developed a corresponding hunter organization with the tacit consent of various countries, which is the [Shepherd's Club]."

"Later, the club gradually grew and grew, which did cause some countries and forces to be jealous, and there were also some conflicts, but as I said before."

Plechis leaned back in his chair again, very leisurely, even showing some unscrupulous attitude.

"There are no eternal enemies. The relationship between the Garden of Eden and most of the forces is 'business'. ”

"Of course, the club has been affected a bit, and the action will not only be restricted by the local police department, but also need to follow some basic guidelines, which will be explained to you in the subsequent training, and now."

Here Pleis chose a pause, and he pushed the gold-rimmed glasses again, which seemed to be a habit of his own, and he continued:

"Let's talk about treatment."

-------------------------------------

In a hidden room on the second floor of the Sunflower Carriage, Pleis knocked on the door.

At the desk in the room, a middle-aged man, with his shiny sideburns and angular appearance, was carefully examining the information.

"Viscount Pound." Plechis bowed with a slight difficulty.

"Pleis." The middle-aged man smiled when he saw the fat gentleman come in and put down the information.

"How's Hines talking over there?" He asked Pleis.

"It's going well, and he's happy to join the Sunflower Carriage as a special advisor to the Shepherds' Club."

"Hmm." Viscount Pound nodded in satisfaction.

"What about the other thing?" He then asked.

"The young man in black also agreed to join the club."

"But he seems to be aware of our intentions."

"Oh?" Viscount Pound was a little curious.

"He senses that we are here for the Dark Side of the Moon, but he doesn't know what we're aiming for." Plechis explained.

"He's a smart guy." Pound nodded, got up and paced to the window.

"It's no wonder that they were able to escape from the [Dark Side of the Moon] with Horn, and also aroused the interest of the [Perfumer] who pretended to be Maria."

"It's time to start arranging his contact with the [Ruins], the Blood Moon has reappeared, the [Angels] are about to return, and there is not much time left for us."

The man looked at the moon in the sky and said with concern in his eyes.
