Volume 1 The Philosopher's Stone Chapter 46 The Scholar's Breath
The old-fashioned man did not respond to Martin's words, but drew a card from the stack in front of him.
The card depicts the back of an old man in a dimly lit room, leaning back on a couch with a match in his left hand and about to light a wooden pipe in his mouth.
He was dressed in a camel-colored nightgown, and his gray beard and long hair were a little messy, like branches piercing into the air, making him look very unruly, and part of the tobacco in his pipe had been lit, and pale blue smoke wafted from it.
And on the walls of the room, the faint light of the matches reflected countless flickering shadows.
These shadows all have pointed ears and a protruding snout.
In the upper left corner of the card is a lantern with the Roman numeral IV on the back, and a small plum blossom in the upper right corner.
Directly above the card is written:
【Scholar's Breath】
There is a line of annotations for the convention directly below the card:
"Countless hubris ignited on the pipe, burning the flame of reason."
When Martin saw this card, his head instantly cleared, the pain in his temples eased, and the madness and desire for destruction temporarily subsided.
He felt as if the card had an indescribable appeal, and he couldn't help but want to get closer, to have it.
"The madness of the 'chariot' can only be alleviated by the 'lantern'."
The old-fashioned man saw Martin's reaction, and a smile appeared on Furui Wubo's face.
"I don't know where you got the 'chariot' item with such a negative effect, but the 'chariot' is inseparable from the 'lantern', just as a horse cannot do without a charioteer."
"If you can do what I said, this [Scholar's Breath] is yours."
Martin held his forehead, and the feeling of madness had subsided somewhat, but his brain was still under residual effects, like wood pulled out of a nail.
He closed his eyes and asked rhetorically in a somewhat deep voice:
"What do you mean by 'chariot' inseparable from 'lantern'?"
The old-fashioned man didn't answer Martin.
On the contrary, the blonde woman, seeing that Martin seemed to be normal, said to Martin in a sarcastic tone:
"Didn't the person who gave you the item even tell you about this? Tell me, are they as stupid as werewolves? ”
"She seems to be convinced that someone else gave me the gentleman's hat... Indeed, judging by the reactions of those werewolves, that skull must be related to the [Seat Angel], and it may even be the head of this little trump card..."
Martin pondered.
As the madness in his mind gradually receded, he felt more and more afraid, he thought that the impact of this hat was something he could bear, but from the time he entered here, he had no ability to resist this madness at all.
Some cold sweat broke out on his back, but on the surface he was as usual, and he replied in a steady voice:
"Perhaps, but the werewolves have not forgotten the mistakes of Karnstein."
"You are not allowed to call the Ancestor by his name!"
The blonde woman was unusually annoyed.
"It turns out that Carnstein is the ancestor of vampires..."
"According to the Priest of the [Luna Tribe], the werewolves' hatred of vampires almost always stems from Karnstein's betrayal of the Angel and the 'Hall of the Monuments'... This led directly to the fall of the Angel and the disappearance of the werewolves..."
Martin thought to himself, ignoring the blonde woman.
"'Chariot' and 'Lantern' are the corresponding [Secret Ritual Deck]."
"Reason needs madness to be rescued, and madness needs reason to survive."
The old-fashioned man was silent for a while, but he still spoke.
"The royal family and the church divided the [secret ritual] into the so-called [salvation card] and the [pollution card], preaching to avoid and resist 'pollution', but snatching the [pollution card] through various means, on the one hand, is to covet the power in it."
"And the more important aspect is that the [Salvation Card] they accommodate, and the [Pollution Card] needs to be balanced."
"Because [salvation] itself is also a kind of pollution, and what can fight pollution is another kind of pollution."
The man said this, a mocking smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.
"'Pollution' needs to be 'saved', and 'saved' is not another kind of pollution?"
Martin pondered the man's words, and he called the genesis card a "secret ritual", not knowing what the meaning was.
And his words show that the 36 genesis cards seem to have a two-by-one relationship, and the official forces' handling of "pollution" does not seem to be as simple as it seems.
"These four people have a lot of information about this world, you can try to cooperate with them first..."
"What do you want me to do?"
Martin rubbed his forehead and looked up to the old-fashioned man.
"Calcinate the flesh and blood, summon the [Yellow and Black Dog], give it this [Salt of Life], someone will find you, I want you to cooperate with the person who came and enter the [Dark Alchemy Society]."
A small glass bottle appeared on the table in front of Martin, containing some white particles that looked like salt crystals.
The grains were different from normal table salt, and they were emitting a white glow, and a small white sheen was reflected on the table, which looked a little mysterious.
"Dark Alchemy?"
Martin looked at the sudden appearance of the glass bottle and asked puzzled, this was the first time he had heard the name.
"This is an ancient organization, holding the vast majority of the secret ritual cards of the 'Spoon' deck and the corresponding accommodation conditions, you have now accommodated the [Alchemy Dog], and there are many benefits for you to enter it."
The old-fashioned man replied.
"It's as simple as getting in?"
Martin was puzzled.
"Of course not." The eyes of a stereotypical man are projected.
"Where have you been teleported?"
"Tree Capital Cavides."
"Trees... This is an important stronghold of the [Dark Alchemy Society]..."A smile appeared on the corner of the old-fashioned man's mouth.
"I want you to get in and take control of it."
"Take control of this organization?"
Martin was a little shocked, he couldn't imagine what it would be like to be the leader of an ancient organization, even if it was just a branch.
"It's just a stronghold in Shudu, and this is what I deserve."
The old-fashioned man said leisurely, and his calm tone seemed to indicate that this matter was insignificant to him.
"During this process, we will give you some guidance so that you can enter smoothly, and if you get some magical items or secret ritual cards, you can also exchange them with us, of course, it is an equivalent exchange."
The old-fashioned man picked up his knife and fork and began to eat as he spoke, as if saying so much in one breath had some effect on his state.
"The way to get the flesh grass can be found in your Savage Cookbook."
"I suggest you read that recipe carefully, only if you make a qualified [potion], you can gradually get close to the secret ritual until you can accommodate the next secret ritual."
The old-fashioned man seemed to see that Martin had made no further progress after accommodating the dog tag, and said in a somewhat admonishing tone.
"Potions?"
Martin questioned again, there was no way, after successfully escaping from the Golden Bird Palace, he still hadn't had time to understand the advanced process of the Genesis card, or the secret card.
"The basic ability of [Alchemy Dog] is to refine all kinds of potions, which represents the devouring power of the secret ritual, and it is also something that other decks can only dream of."
"As long as you have a potion, the role that the third-order [Alchemy Dog] can play will far exceed that of other secret rituals of the same level."
The old-fashioned man said as he looked at the other three people at the table.
Whether it was a hot-tempered red-haired fat man, a cynical skinny man, or a blonde woman with a goblet, they were all collectively silent.
The old-fashioned man continued to cut the steak and continued with a blank face:
"Even at the advanced level."
