Chapter 90: The Mandrake
"Hey, Maple, look at this, there's even a thank you note!" Hermione was about to throw away all the remaining letters that she felt were useless when she saw the same letters, when she suddenly saw a thank you letter from an Auror relative.
"What else have you done?" Hermione asked curiously after reading the contents of the letter.
"It's almost time for class, let's put these letters away and talk on the way!" Maple said.
Their first class was a herb class, and on the way to class, Maple told Hermione about her cooperation with Ollivanders and the plan for the distribution of profits.
Despite all the unexpected moves, Maple couldn't help but be surprised every time something new happened.
With so many things done in the second grade, how do we feel like we're not from the same world?
Hermione instantly felt that compared to Maple, her first grade was not fragrant, and there was nothing to be proud of. But it also fueled Hermione's competitiveness, only she unconsciously changed her goal to surpass Maple to not slow him down.
It had been a long time before Maple and Hermione had arrived, and Harry and Ron had arrived late, apparently losing track of time because of their excitement.
"Today to the third greenhouse!" Professor Sprout said. Hit by Maple's sudden popularity, Lockhart was in no mood to come out and scream this time, thinking that he was going to instruct Professor Sprout on how to deal with herbs. Without Lockhart's-stirring stick, Sprout would have been in a good mood for class today.
In the first year, they had only been in the first greenhouse, and it was now clear that Professor Sprout was talking about a much more dangerous third greenhouse than the first, but that didn't frighten the students, but they all looked interested.
The students followed Professor Sprout to the door of the third greenhouse, where Professor Sprout removed a large key from his belt and opened it. Don't look down on this kind of lockpicking like Muggles, but the more ordinary it is, the more incredible magic it contains. Obviously, this lock cannot be opened with a lockpicking charm.
When the door of the third greenhouse was opened, a smell of damp earth and heavy fertilizer greeted you, but it was also mixed with a very strong floral scent.
I just followed the wonderful fragrance of the flowers to trace the past, only to find that the appearance of these flowers is not as pleasant as the smell they emit. These flowers are the size of umbrellas, hanging from the ceiling, and they look all kinds of hideous.
Maple had no doubt that by adding a pair of sharp teeth to them, they would immediately eat meat on their own.
Professor Sprout stood behind a stool in the middle of the greenhouse, on which were twenty pairs of earmuffs of various colors, and they were going to take a very important lesson on mandrakes. When the mandrake matures, it can be equipped with potions and will be removed by the black magic of the basilisk Basrisk's petrification, and this is an evil magic that Dumbledore, who has the Elder Wand, cannot directly dispel with magic, which shows the powerful medicinal effect of the mandrake.
"We're going to repot the mandrake today. Now, can anyone tell me what properties a mandrake has? β
"Mandrake, also known as mandrake root, is a powerful restorative. It is used to restore a person who has been transformed or who has been enchanted to their original state. Hermione was the only student who raised her hand and answered quickly.
Maple is also very envious of Hermione's memory, although he is also a child of someone else's family in the eyes of other students, but only when he possesses the card of the system, he has such an amazing memory as Hermione, she simply eats the textbook in her stomach!
"Very good, add ten points to Gryffindor." Professor Sprout said, "Mandrakes are an important part of most antidotes. But it's also dangerous. Can anyone tell me why? β
"The cry of a mandrake kills people." Hermione quickly raised her hand again and blurted out.
Professor, you better not ask questions in the future, it feels like this session is just for Hermione.
On a row of deep-bottomed plates, about a hundred green and purple seedlings are lined up. In response to the mandrake's cry, Professor Sprout prepared more than twenty earmuffs for them.
And this class is still taken with Hufflepuff, that is to say, there are only about a dozen students in one grade in each house, and there are almost no different students in other houses, that is to say, in the entire Hogwarts school, the students of all grades combined, there are only two or three hundred. If this is in a certain school in the Celestial Empire, if there are only so many people in one grade of their junior high school or high school, then this school will not be far from closing. This shows how sparsely populated the wizarding world is, and how sparsely populated Hogwarts is.
Perhaps because Professor Sprout was a witch, she had prepared a lot of pink fluffy earmuffs, which were obviously much more than the girls in this class.
The boys immediately rushed because none of them wanted to get a pink fluffy ear tip.
Without using magic, Maple, who didn't crowd the front, didn't grab the black earmuffs. And Hermione's guy, obviously a girl, didn't go to get the women's pink earmuffs, and when Maple wanted to exchange the pink earmuffs with her, she also refused.
Maple suddenly felt that it would be nice to take this class with the Slytherin guys, at least he wouldn't have any burden on them when he snatched the earrings, and he couldn't do anything to the weird and Ravenclaw.
After all the students put on the earmuffs, Professor Sprout demonstrated the process of repotting the mandrake. I saw her grasp a blade of grass in the mandrake and pull it up with all her might.
Then many of the students could not help but scream, for it was not the grass roots that Professor Sprout had pulled out of the soil, but a very ugly baby, and the leaves of the mandrake were born on his head. His skin is light green with spots on it.
The mandrake doll didn't seem to like being pulled out of the dirt and yelled at the top of her voice.
Professor Sprout took a large flower pot from under the table, stuffed the mandrake doll in, and buried him with damp dark compost, leaving only the clumps of leaves exposed.
"Our mandrakes are still just seedlings, and hearing their cries is not fatal. However, they can leave you in a coma for several hours. Professor Sprout said, and was about to go on and arrange for the students to repot the mandrakes in groups, when Maple asked, "Professor, if adult mandrakes make a cry, can their voices be fatal to powerful magical creatures or wizards with powerful magical powers?" β
"Kid, that's an interesting question you asked. I think for powerful wizards, if they don't use magic or plug their ears to prevent the mandrake's cry from invading, it won't necessarily kill immediately, but it's still dangerous. I think you'll be in a coma for a few hours, just like you did with a young mandrake. If the mandrake's cries continue while unconscious, it may have a lethal effect on the wizard.
But powerful magical creatures, along with colleagues with strong magical powers, also tend to have strong magical resistance. The mandrake's cry is not lethal to them, but it can still keep them unconscious for a long time. During this time, the mandrakes were able to sneak underground and escape their pursuit. Professor Sprout said.
"That's right, I see, thank you for your answer, Professor!" The expression on Maple's face was happy, as if he had discovered another magical phenomenon that no one else had noticed.
"Four people in a plate, there are a lot of flower pots here, composted in a bag over there. Beware of the venomous tentacles, it's teething. Professor Sprout slapped a spiky crimson plant, causing it to retract into the tentacles that crept over her shoulder.
After putting half a pot of dragon manure in an empty pot, they put on the earmuffs again and began to repot the mandrakes.
There is a saying that dogs bite Lu Dongbin and don't know good people's hearts, and these mandrakes are obviously also ignorant of good people. Obviously they were repotting and fertilizing it, but these mandrake dolls didn't appreciate it at all, shouting and screaming, kicking their feet around, waving their little fists and gritting their teeth. It took Harry ten minutes to repot a particularly fat doll, and because he couldn't use magic, Maple wasn't much better than him.
And the girls like Hermione were even slower.
After a lesson, everyone was tired and sweaty, and their backs ached, and after returning to the castle to take a shower, they hurried to Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration class.
The Transfiguration class was difficult, but Professor McGonagall was merciful in not talking about the new content, but instead asking them to turn beetles into buttons, which was a refresher of the previous semester.
Seeing the other students behaving in a variety of ways and tricks, Maple felt that Professor McGonagall's actions were very wise, because looking at the current state of the students, even if they taught them new knowledge, they would be learning in vain.
During a vacation, these students seem to have leaked all the knowledge in their heads. Professor McGonagall didn't show much surprise on her face, apparently thinking that this was normal. It's just that she can't overturn the Ministry of Magic's secrecy law and allow students to practice magic outside of school during the holidays, so she can only urge students to practice more after school starts so that they can recover as soon as possible.
Harry and Ron had been practicing magic for a while under Hermione's reminder, but this time the beetles were clearly different from the rats in their final exams, they didn't sit still like the rats and wait for them to cast spells.
Harry and Ron's accuracy was obviously not very good, and it took a long time to get the beetle to exercise, and the beetle ran around the table with his wand dodging, and they couldn't light it.
Maple shook his head and showed them through.
"There are many obstacles!" Maple could have cast a spell on the beetle directly, but in order to help Harry and Ron, he first cast an obstacle spell to limit the beetle's range of movement, and then cast a stun spell.
"Faint!"
"Okay, after you are stunned like this, you can cast a spell directly on the beetle." Maple said.
"Why didn't we think of that?" Ron patted his head and thanked Maple, "Thank you, Maple. β
"Although this class is a Transfiguration class, Professor McGonagall never said that you are not allowed to cast spells other than Transfiguration?" Maple said.
"Rapid recovery!" Seeing the beetle's languishing appearance after being hit once by the Stun Charm, Maple gave it another speed boostβ
"Shadow Leap!"
Seeing that the beetle was running twice as fast as before being knocked unconscious, Maple nodded with satisfaction: "That's interesting!" β
"Makeover!" Maple said that he cast a metamorphosis on the beetle, and the people who had gone through the actual battle were different, although the beetle's speed was twice as fast, but Maple still hit it in one shot.
