Chapter 209: Response
Because it was late, Hermione only told Maple that her first project was a fire dragon, and without much talk, she said goodbye and went back to sleep.
The next morning, Harry got up and got dressed absent-mindedly. He was still thinking about the fire dragon, but he didn't have a clue in his heart.
With only one wand, what should he do in the face of a fire dragon?
Hermione had gone straight to the library after breakfast to check out the information about dragons, and next Tuesday was about to play, and Harry was even more nervous after learning about the first project than before he didn't. Harry was so nervous that he had no appetite for food, so he ate a few bites casually, and then remembered that he had to tell Cedric about the dragon, Harry swallowed the rest of the bread and got up to find Cedric.
Harry didn't know where the Hufflepuff break room was, but when he saw one of the Hufflepuff seniors, he immediately stopped him and asked about Cedric's whereabouts.
The Hufflepuff immediately changed his face when he saw Harry, and to Harry's disappointment, he didn't tell Harry that Cedric was there, as if he thought Harry was thinking of some despicable means against their warriors, so he gave Harry a look and turned away.
Several Hufflepuffs reacted like this in a row, and then Harry met Justin Finchrie-
"You-"
"I know I don't deserve to be a Hogwarts Warrior, okay! Can you help me get Cedric over now, I have something important to tell him. β
Naturally, Harry couldn't reveal the relevant information to unrelated people, and he was worried that it would cause trouble for Hagrid who leaked the secret.
Justin didn't expect Harry to say this, and after a surprise glance at Harry, he seemed to agree, but he didn't open his mouth to speak to Harry.
Harry waited here for a while, probably more than ten minutes, when Justin arrived with Cedric.
"Tell me, what are you looking for me?" Cedric asked. Harry didn't answer immediately, but glanced at Justin Finchrie, he understood what Harry meant, snorted coldly and turned away directly.
"The first project is the Fire Dragon." After Justin had left out of sight, Harry spoke.
"What?" Cedric had a look of surprise on his face.
"The first project is the fire dragon, there are three in total, I think each academy chooses one, and we have to pass through them." Harry said, Cedric staring at him blankly. The fear Harry had felt last night was flashing in Cedric's grey eyes.
Seeing that the seventh grader's first feeling when he heard the fire dragon was not much better than his own, Harry suddenly felt that his fear seemed to lessen a lot.
"Are you sure?" Cedric said in a low voice.
"Absolutely," said Harry, "I saw it with my own eyes. β
"How did you find out? We should not know ... β
"Leave it alone," Harry said quickly, Hagrid would be in trouble if he told the truth, "I'm not the only one who knows, the warriors of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang should know by now, Lady Maxim and Karkaroff have seen the dragon." β
"Can you not tell me?" Cedric said.
"That's fair, we all know it now, we're all standing at the same starting point, and it's glorious to win like this, isn't it?" Harry said. "And if it's you the other way around, you're going to tell me and Hermione, right?"
"Oh, of course, but thank you for the information, Harry!" Cedric thanked, then added, "But I'm not going to show mercy to you." β
Before Harry could say anything, suddenly, ooh, aw, aw, Harry heard a familiar voice behind him. He turned to see Mad-Eyed Moody walking over.
"Potter, you come with me." He said in a gruff voice, "Diggory, you go." β
Harry looked at Moody in horror, had he heard their conversation?
"Well, Professor, I-"
"Potter, come to my office."
Harry followed him, unsure of what was going to happen next. What if Moody asked him how he found the dragon? Will Moody go to Dumbledore and denounce Hagrid... Along the way, Harry was cranky ...
Harry followed Moody into the office, and after both entered, Moody closed the door and turned to look at Harry, the magical eye and normal eye staring at Harry at the same time.
"You just did something very gracious, Potter." Moody said softly.
Harry didn't know how to answer, he hadn't expected Moody's attitude to be like this. However, after knowing that Moody would not report Hagrid, Harry was also secretly relieved.
"Sit down." Moody's said. Harry sat down and looked around.
There was a whole bunch of bizarre gadgets in the office, which Harry assumed was the same thing Moody had used when he was an Auror.
On Moody's desk, there was something that looked like a cracked glass top. Harry recognized it at a glance, it was a speculum, as he had one, but it was much smaller than Moody's.
In the corner of a small table, there was a strange thing that looked a bit like a golden TV antenna, but it was twisted so badly that it kept humming softly. On the opposite wall hung something like a mirror, but it didn't reflect the scene in the room, and there were many dark figures dangling around, but they were all blurry and invisible.
"You like my Dark Arts Detector, don't you?" Moody asked, looking at Harry closely.
"What's that?" Harry asked, pointing to the twisted golden antenna.
"A snitch that vibrates when it detects conspiracy and lies. Of course, it doesn't come in handy here, there are too many distractions, and there are students everywhere making up lies about not doing their homework. It's been buzzing all the time since I moved in. I had to break my speculum because it kept honking and screaming. It's so sensitive that movement within a mile radius can be detected. Of course, it's not just kids' tricks that it can detect. He said in a hoarse voice.
"What is that mirror for?"
"Oh, that's my mirror. See those sneaky figures? If I could see their faces clearly, I would be in real trouble. That's when I'm going to open my box. β
He let out a short, hoarse laugh and pointed to the large box under the window. There were seven keyholes in a row. Harry was wondering what would be in the box when Moody's next question pulled him back to reality.
"So, you found out about the fire dragon, didn't you?"
Harry hesitated, he had been worried about thisβHagrid had violated the charter, and he hadn't told Cedric, and certainly wouldn't tell Moody.
"It's okay," Moody said, sitting down, groaning and straightening the wooden leg, "Cheating has always been a traditional part of the Triwizard Tournament. β
"I didn't cheat," Harry said explicitly, "I am, I found it by accident. β
Moody grinned, "I didn't blame you, kid. I told Dumbledore from the beginning that he could do his best to be noble, but I dare say Karkaroff and Maxim were not so detached. They will tell their warriors everything they can, they want to win, they want to defeat Dumbledore, they want to prove that he is just a mortal! β
Moody let out another hoarse dry laugh, and the enchanted eye spun so fast that Harry looked sick.
"So, have you figured out how to get through that dragon of yours?" Moody asked.
"Nope." Harry said honestly.
"Oh, I'm not going to tell you," Moody said stiffly, "I can't be biased, can I?" I just want to give you some kind and general advice. The first is to play to your strengths. β
"I don't have a strong point." Harry blurted out.
"I'm sorry, I don't agree." Moody said in a gruff voice, "I said you have strengths, and you have strengths." Think about it, what are you best at? β
Harry was desperately trying to concentrate his thoughts, what was he best at? Oh, that's obviousβ
"Quidditch," he said dryly, "and that's with the help of many peopleβ"
"That's right," Moody said, staring at Harry, his enchanted eyes barely motionless, "As far as I know, you're a great flyer. β
"Yes, but," Harry said, looking at him, "I can't use a broomstick, I can only carry a wandβ"
"My second piece of general advice to you is," Moody interrupted, loudly, "chanting a simple but effective spell that will enable you to get what you need." β
Harry stared blankly at him. What he needs?
"Think about it, kid," Moody whispered, "it's not that hard to connect them ... β
Suddenly, a flash of inspiration crossed Harry's mind. He's the best at flying, and he needs to get over dragons from the air. In that case, he would need his fire bolts. And to get his firebolts, he needs to-
Flying Spell!
When Harry came to the library to look for Hermione, she was looking through the information about dragons, and there was a thick stack of books on her desk.
"'Trim the claws with magic... Treatments for scaly ulcers... 'It's useless, it's for weirdos like Hagrid who want the dragon to be strong ... β
"'Dragons are extremely difficult to slaughter because their thick skin is permeated with ancient magic that only the most powerful spells can penetrate... β
Hermione muttered to herself as she flipped through the thick books.
When Harry arrived, he told Hermione what had just happened.
βγγγ That way, I just need to master the Flying Charm. β
"I didn't expect Professor Moody to give you so many tips? Broomsticks, flying spells, it's so simple, why didn't I think of it? Hermione said in surprise, but she wasn't good at flying, and even if she did, she wasn't going to be like Harry.
"You go to Xiao Tian Xing, he can help you practice the Flying Spell." Hermione whispered, "I'm going to keep looking for information." β
"Okay." Harry said.
Arriving at the Screaming Shack, Harry told his godfather what Professor Moody had said, and asked him to help him practice the Flying Charm.
"Actually, there is another way, you only need to cast a simple magic, you can also deal with the fire dragon with the eye disease spell." Sirius said.
"Eye curse?" Harry said.
"yes, because the dragon's eyes are the weakest point. But Moody's approach is better and more suitable for you. Sirius said, with some surprise on his face, "I didn't expect Moody to directly remind you, it seems that he really hates Karkaroff, and knows that Karkaroff will definitely try all kinds of ways to help the warriors of his academy, so I don't want him to get his wish." β
"Why me, and not Cedric? Isn't he more sure to help Hogwarts win, and he's flying well... Harry said.
"Then Moody probably thanked you for defeating Voldemort." Sirius said,
"That's fine, Hermione and I have a way to deal with the dragon, I'm going to tell Hermione." Harry said happily.
"Eye curse?" Harry said after telling Hermione about the Eye Curse.
"Said Sirius," said Harry, like Hermione, blurring Sirius's name in the middle, for fear of being heard, "Dragons' eyes are the most vulnerable place, so an eye spell can deal with them. β
"Oh." Hermione said, a little reluctant, a little reluctant, because she didn't come up with the idea.
However, she did not refuse Harry's kindness, put the library books back in their place, and left the library with Harry. After Harry left, Hermione flipped through several more books, but found nothing useful, not even Sirius's eye curse.
"Harry, concentrate your mind, give your full attention, try to think of the person you need, let it come to you, and it will fly."
Compared to the Flying Charm that Harry practiced, Hermione mastered the Eye Curse much faster. Also, Harry had a longer cast range to summon firebolts during the game, which Hermione didn't need. In addition, although the fire dragon is huge, if it does not move, its eyes are fixed targets, so it is easy to aim.
It's just that Hermione, who has nothing to do after practicing the eye disease spell, always feels a little unwilling. Because she didn't come up with the solution, she didn't have any sense of accomplishment at all.
So she left Harry and went to Maple for help.
"There are only two days left, and it is difficult to improve either the magic spell or the defense against the dark arts in a short period of time, and the fire dragon has a very strong magic resistance. As you can see, only the Stun Spell cast by the combined efforts of seven or eight adult wizards will work on them. "The only thing that can be greatly improved in a short period of time is the Transfiguration Charm. β
"Transfiguration?" Hermione said.
"Yes, Transfiguration. Most Transfiguration spells only require a single spell. In fact, you don't need to chant a spell, but once you are proficient, you only need to input magic and try to figure out how to make the transformed object become the desired target. "Hermione, your current magic is enough to complete the advanced or even top-level Transfiguration Charm, all you need is imagination. βγ
"Imagination?" Hermione thought thoughtfully.
"Yes, let go of your mind and don't be bound by textbooks and what you know. Even if you don't learn the knowledge, only what you think, as long as you conceive the whole of the imaginary goal and every detail in your brain, then you may succeed. β
"Also, another feature of Transfiguration is that it can be combined with Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts." As he spoke, Maple demonstrated it to Hermione, and he pulled out his wand, as if he had changed into a human being, first his feet, then his body and hands, and finally his head. In the blink of an eye, an ice statue appeared in front of their eyes.
A lifelike statue as if Hermione was standing a transparent version of herself.
"Clear Water Spell, Freezing Spell, Transfiguration Spell."
Then Maple cast another spell, and the statue flew up. After the statue flew to a height of several tens of meters, Maple cast another spell and conjured a rope to wrap around the statue in the sky.
"The statue is flying!" The statue flies over, but Maple then uses a levitation charm to raise the statue to the same height again.
This time, Maple pulled the rope he had conjured with magic in his hand and cast a spell on the rope, "Contraction!" β
It's not particularly obvious, but the second statue comes back a little faster. If you increase the distance a little more, the effect will be more pronounced, because one is a close-range cast spell and the other is a ranged spell. In addition, if an Iron Armor Charm or a Fixed Charm is cast on the subject, the Flying Charm may also fail.
"Don't limit yourself to what you know, use your imagination, Transfiguration can create endless possibilities. I can only say so much to you, how to face the fire dragon, or you can think for yourself. Although the fire dragon is infinitely powerful, it has another weakness in addition to its eyes - that is, its brain.
After all, it is just a brute, it does not have our mind and intelligence, and it is at most a stronger troll. β
After saying that, Maple unenchanted the statue and the rope, and then stood silently to the side, allowing Hermione to think for herself.
