Chapter 220: The Dance Ends
ps: It didn't snow in winter, and the first rain in spring today, it was still heavy rain in the afternoon, and it turned into snow again in the evening.
After Parvati left, Hermione walked over and sat down in the newly vacated seat next to Harry.
"Hello." When Harry saw Hermione coming, he immediately withdrew his gaze from Qiu Zhang's body and said.
"It's hot, isn't it?" Hermione said, fanning herself with the palm of her hand, "Victor went get a drink." ”
Hermione didn't seem to notice, much to Harry's relief.
"Don't you mind going out for a walk with me?" That's when Maple suddenly said to Luna.
"Okay." Maple pulled Luna past Harry and Hermione, without looking at Hermione. It's just that the expression on Hermione's face, which seems to be smiling but not smiling, makes people a little unpredictable.
They bypassed the table and left the still-lively dance hall. There was no one at the guest of honour now: Professor Dumbledore was dancing with Professor Sproutney, Ludo Bagman was dancing with Professor McGonagall; Madame Maxim and Hagrid waltzed among the students, making a wide trajectory across the dance floor; Karkarov didn't know where he went.
They walked out of the auditorium and down the steps, the fairy light glittering in the rose garden. They found it surrounded by low bushes, richly decorated winding paths, and huge stone statues. The sound of splashing water can be heard, like a fountain, and people can occasionally be seen sitting on openwork benches.
Maple walked aimlessly, he didn't speak, Luna didn't bother, leaving him to soak up his chaotic thoughts.
But after a few steps, Maple heard a familiar voice, and then he saw that Snape and Karkaroff were actually together, as if arguing fiercely over something.
Just seeing this scene from afar, Maple knew what was happening. If Percy still bothered Harry as usual, then Harry should still have a chance to hear the end of Snape's argument with Karkaroff, so he should not spoil it.
Maple bypasses Snape and Karkaroff, and Luna has little interest in eavesdropping on other people's secrets. After bypassing the two men, Maple continued to stroll quietly under the night sky.
After Maple left, Hermione seemed bored, and then she disappeared from Harry, not knowing where she went.
"Where's Hermien?" After Hermione left, Krum walked over with two bottles of Butterbeer in his hand.
"I don't know." Harry said.
"Well, if you see her, say I took a drink." With a disappointed look on his face, Krum finished his way and walked away listlessly.
"You've made friends with Wicktor Krum, Harry?"
After Krum, Percy came to Harry's side again, rubbing his hands together in a self-righteous manner. "Great! It's the halo that's all that, you know - for the cooperation of the international wizarding community! ”
Harry was a little annoyed, why it was endless, people kept coming to him, which made him have no chance to take a good peek at Qiu Zhang.
Harry looked over the dance floor, and even the most boring thing was more interesting than listening to Percy's boring speech. Just as the song ended, and everyone applauded again, Harry saw Ludo Bagman kiss Professor McGonagall's hand and head back through the crowd.
Ludo Bagman saw Harry, waved his hand in greeting, and walked over to this side.
But soon, Ludo Bagman regretted doing so.
"What do you think of the tournament, Mr. Bagman? Our division is very satisfied, the Goblet of Fire is a little out of order," Percy said, glancing at Harry, the look in his eyes that made Harry very unhappy. If it weren't for Hermione's departure, he'd probably have added Hermione's name.
"It's a shame, needless to say, but since then, everything seems to be going well, what do you think?"
"Ah, yes," Bagman said pleasantly, "it's so much fun." What is Old Barty doing? It's a shame that he couldn't come. ”
"Oh, I'm sure Mr. Crouch will soon be back to health," Percy said impatiently, "and until then, I'm more than willing to take the unattended work." Of course, it's not all prom or anything. He smiled arrogantly, "Well, I had to deal with all the things that happened during his absence. Have you heard of Ali? Was Bashir caught smuggling flying carpets into the country?
In addition, we have been convincing the Transhanians to sign the International Law on the Prohibition of Duels. I had an appointment with their Director of the Department of Magical Cooperation in the New Year... ”
At first, Ludo Bagman was very interested in Percy's words, but the more he talked, the more he said, and the more he talked about it, Ludo Bagman was a little bored.
However, Harry was glad that with Ludo Bagman in his way, he finally had a chance to leave Percy's side.
Harry, who was alone, quickly thought of Ron, but he was thinking about calling Ron to go out with him, but when he saw that Ron was still chatting happily with Celia there, he immediately suffered a 10,000-point critical attack in his heart.
A somewhat depressed Harry had to go for a walk alone.
Harry pretended to get a drink, left the table, turned sideways around the dance floor, and slipped out the door.
After walking a few steps, he also saw Snape and Karkaroff.
“。。。 Don't understand why all this fuss, Igor. ”
"Severus, you can't pretend none of this happened!" Karkaroff's voice sounded frightened and hoarse, as if he was afraid of being heard, "It has become more and more obvious over the years. I'm so worried right now, I can't deny it-"
"Then run away," Snape's voice said impatiently, "run away, and I'll excuse you." But I want to stay at Hogwarts—"
Snape and Karkaroff took a turn. With his wand in hand, Snape blasted the roses in both directions. He had a straight face and an ugly expression. Screams rang from the many flowers, and several black figures burst out of them.
"Ravenclaw deduct ten, Fawcett!" Snape said, and a girl ran past him, "Hufflepuff deducts 10 points, Stabins!" Another boy chased after the girl.
"And what are you doing?" He asked Harry again, who was walking along the path.
Harry noticed that Karkaroff looked a little alarmed when he saw someone overhearing his conversation with Snape. Restlessly, he reached for his goatee and then wrapped it around his fingers.
"I'm taking a walk." Harry said.
"Then keep walking." Snape walked away from them, long black robes fluttering behind him. Karkaroff also hurried away with Snape. After they had all left, Harry continued to stroll along the trail.
"Why is Karkaroff so worried?"
Harry tried to talk to someone, but found out that Ron wasn't there, and Harry became even more depressed.
After a while, Harry came to a large stone reindeer, and he saw a tall fountain splashing and glittering. Two large, vague figures sat on a stone bench, looking at the moonlit spring. Then Harry heard Hagrid talking.
"As soon as I saw you, I understood in my heart." He said in a strangely hoarse voice.
Harry froze, it seemed that this scene was something he shouldn't have been disturbed about. Harry looked around and looked back down the trail to see Fleur Delacour and Roger Davis hiding in a nearby rose bush.
"What do you understand, Hagrid?" Madame Maxim asked, a ho-ho in her deep voice.
Harry really didn't want to hear it anymore. He knew that Hagrid would hate eavesdropping on him in this situation. If possible, he would plug his ears with his hands and buzz loudly in his mouth, but that was not appropriate. He forced himself to take an interest in a beetle crawling on the back of a reindeer, but the beetle wasn't that funny, and Hagrid's words got into his ears anyway.
"I see, understand that you are like me, your mother or father?"
"I-I don't know what you mean, Hagrid...
"It's my mother," Hagrid said softly, "she's one of the few left in England." Of course, I don't remember her very well, she left, you know. It was probably when I was three years old. To be honest, she doesn't quite look like a mother. Alas, they don't have motherhood in their nature, do they? I wonder what happened to her? As far as I know, it's probably dead... ”
Madame Maxim was silent. Harry involuntarily looked away from the beetle and looked beyond the tip of the reindeer's antlery horns, listening, he had never heard Hagrid talk about his childhood before.
"When my mother left, my father was very sad. My dad was a little guy. When I was six years old, if he annoyed me, I would lift him up and put him on top of the closet, always making him laugh. Hagrid's deep voice choked even more.
Madame Maxim listened, motionless, as if gazing at the silver fountain. "My father brought me up, but, alas, he died, just after I went to school. Since then, I've been on my own. Dumbledore helped me a lot, honestly. He was very nice to me ... ”
Hagrid pulled out a silk handkerchief with polka dots on it and blew his nose loudly.
"That's it, okay, I'm done. What about you, where did you get your genetics from? ”
Unexpectedly, Madame Maxim suddenly stood up.
"It's too cold." Madame Maxim said, in fact, no matter how cold the temperature was, it would not be as cold as her voice, "I want to go in." ”
"Huh?" Hagrid said confusedly, "No, don't go!" I- I've never met anyone else before! ”
"Someone else? You make it clear! Madame Maxim said, her tone cold.
Harry really wanted to tell Hagrid that it was better not to answer. He stood in the shadows and gritted his teeth, a glimmer of hope in his heart, hoping that Hagrid would stop talking stupidly, but to no avail.
"Another half-blood giant, that's needless to say!" Hagrid said.
"You're so daring!" Madame Maxim screamed. "I've never been insulted like this in my life! Half-blood giants? I? I'm just- I'm just big bones! ”
Her voice pierced the quiet night sky like a fog horn. Harry heard Fleur and Roger pop out of the roses behind him.
Madame Maxim walked away in a rage, angrily stirring up the flowers, startling groups of colorful little fairies into the air.
Hagrid was still sitting on the bench, looking at her back. It was too dark to see the expression on his face. Then, after a minute or so, he got up and strode away. Instead of returning to the castle, he walked in the direction of his hut, towards the pitch-black field outside.
Fleur and Roger Davis were gone, presumably burrowing into the more hidden bushes. Harry returned to the Great Hall, trying to tell Ron what he had just heard. But he saw Ron return to his seat with two drinks, and handed one of them to Celia.
"Thank you." Celia said.
Feeling bored, Hareton found a place where no one was around, where he sat sullenly alone. Harry restrained himself from looking at Akihari and Cedric, which would give him a strong urge to kick something.
After Maple and Luna walked for an unknown amount of time,
"Thank you!" Maple said to Luna, "Let's go back." ”
"Okay."
By the time they returned, the ball had come to an end. Hermione reappeared, and she danced with Krum again, which Maple saw when she returned, and lasted until twelve o'clock at midnight.
As the ball drew to a close, the Quirky Sisters stopped playing, gave them one last round of applause, and began to walk towards the foyer. Many people hoped that the dance would be extended for a while, and many people did not have a good night and wished it would end early.
At this point, Ron finally left Celia's side, Hermione said goodbye to Krum, and then, as Maple had done before, deliberately passing by him, but walking past him without looking at him.
Maple felt a little uncomfortable and walked away quickly after Hermione left. It was only Harry and Ron left, and as they were walking up the marble staircase, Harry suddenly heard someone calling out to him behind him.
"Hey, Harry!"
It's Cedric Diggory. Harry could see Akihari waiting for him in the foyer below.
"How?" Harry asked coldly, and Cedric ran upstairs towards him.
Cedric seemed to have something to say in front of Ron, Ron was in a good mood today, so he didn't pay much attention to it, said goodbye to Harry, and continued to walk upstairs.
"Listen," Cedric said in a low voice as he waited for Ron to walk away, "you tell me about the dragon, I owe you a favor." Do you know that golden egg, when you open your golden egg, it screams? ”
"yes." Harry said.
"Okay, go take a shower, understand?"
"What?"
"Take a bath, and—um—with the golden eggs, and—well—ponder it in hot water. It will help you think, take my word for it. ”
Harry looked at him puzzled.
"Listen to me," said Cedric, "with the prefect's bathroom." On the sixth floor, the fourth door to the left of the statue of Confused Boris. The mantra is fresh pineapple. I have to go, will you say goodnight to me? ”
He grinned at Harry again, then hurried downstairs to find Akihari.
