Volume 2: The Storm Falls 56 Ghost Shadows
Suddenly, I missed the land, facing this dark, damp, rotten, death-filled place, and the feeling of depression, fear, and anxiety that I had felt in a closed and small environment had returned. I felt a little bit uneasy breathing.
This kind of place is even more eerie than a cemetery. I've never seen a ghost in a graveyard, but I've heard a ghost cry here.
Back in the middle hall, Grayson walked to a passage in the middle without hesitation, but the huge mask hanging on the wall after entering the passage was really uncomfortable. In addition to the fact that those masks were very hideous, the colorful colors on them felt extremely incongruous.
"I've heard that trolls are good at voodoo spells, and these monsters that live in the jungle are actually much more powerful than humans."
"Have you seen or read about it?" Grayson's words seem like I'm bragging.
"Of course, I saw it with my own eyes." As I spoke, I pulled a troll necklace out of my collar. "This is what I got some time ago by following the orc scouts in the lush jungle south of the Sunshine Territory."
"You've fought trolls before"
"No, the trolls don't like the orcs either, they drove them out of the jungle. I just saved an injured troll. ”
"You're going to save those monsters?"
"I don't know, but when I appeared in front of it, its gaze was no different from that of humans, and I don't know if it was the calmness of people who were about to die or if we misunderstood them."
"You're right, it! They. There is no misunderstanding about this group of monsters. The previous war of trolls, they killed our king, destroyed our farms and villages, slaughtered our people. He said.
"One thing I'm curious about is why the trolls in the primeval forest are attacking your villagers. What happened then? ”
"Hmph, you're very problematic." He glanced at me. "This group of monsters is naturally evil and eccentric." He coughed = stopped, tilted his head to look at a large mask next to him, and then drew his saber and poked at the mask on the wall. "As you said, you can tell how evil the gods they believe in are by looking at the things they hang on, and what they believe in is nothing short of dark and twisted."
"Lord Lothar seems to be especially caring for you." I changed the subject.
"Ha, you're thinking too much." Grayson didn't explain.
The stairs spiral upwards, not shaking, but rather long. And the silence after stopping the conversation made me feel like I was walking and walking, as if I was entering an infinite loop of ghosts hitting the wall. Thinking of this, I suddenly felt a chill in my body, and looked back at the young knights.
Grayson, who was walking in front, suddenly stopped, and he reached out to stop us behind him. That's when I realized that the stairs had come to an end.
It was so quiet that we all held our breath, and I could hear my heartbeat in my chest except for the breathing that I tried to suppress.
Grayson poked his head out to look at it, then strode inside. He walked to the wall, looked up at the pillars standing by the wall, and stretched out the torch.
The pillar was set on fire. He lit a candle!
The lit candle flame jumped quietly, and there was a crackling sound in the wick. But the most terrifying thing is that the light emitted by the candle flame is actually green.
Grayson stared at the fire and then turned to look at us. He lit the candle next to him as he walked forward. Soon this wide corridor was unfolded in front of us. There was a skeleton leaning against the base of the wall in front of it.
Suddenly, a strange thought occurred in my mind. How do you extinguish candles that don't burn out?
On either side of the corridor appeared some large rooms, but there were no beds or furniture, only a stone platform against the wall, on which was enshrined a serpentine statue, very similar to what we had just seen by the pool.
Next to the statue lay a severed skull, ornaments made of fangs, dried vessels, and a pile of ragged candles.
The knights unanimously drew all the weapons from their sheaths. It's a little weird that every room is like this.
Grayson, however, inspected each room with great interest, and the things enshrined on the stone platform in each room were not quite the same. He entered the toy store like a curious child and happily picked and chosen.
"It doesn't look like there's anything good about this place either." After turning around a dozen rooms, he finally got a little bored. When we lit the candles in the hallways and rooms, instead of feeling very bright, they felt even more eerie.
Suddenly I saw the shadows we cast on the wall move! I turned my head sharply, and the candle flame was swinging gently!
"There is a situation!" I grabbed Grayson. The people around him also became nervous. "Look." I pointed to the candle on the wall.
The flame of the candle moved again, swaying gently from side to side.
"Windy?" Grenson lowered his voice and forced the word out of his throat.
I didn't take a stubble, just stared in the direction of the flames. Suddenly, a guy screamed.
This sudden explosion in this extremely quiet environment scared my soul away.
Looking in the direction of the screaming soldier's sword, a rickety figure appeared not far away in the darkness where the candle had not yet been lit.
Not one, it's several!
This scene directly made me feel chills all over my body, and the hairs on my arms and backs exploded at once.
I stared at the figure in the darkness with wide eyes, and it wasn't just an illusion, it was ...... Those things are alive!
They slowly moved towards us. But what surprised me even more was that there was no sound under their feet.
Shoved the torch into the hand of a soldier next to him. Putting away my sword, I drew my bow and arrow from my back.
I don't know if I'd be as scared as I am if I encountered this kind of thing in the outside world, but my hands were shaking right now.
Gritting his teeth, he stretched his bow and arrows, and pulled the bowstring to the full. Aim at one of the front and shoot an arrow.
The arrow was straight into its body, but it made a sound like an arrow stuck into a sandbag or a scarecrow.
It didn't fall!
This one made my head buzz right away. Hurriedly drew a second arrow and shot it at its head. The distance is not particularly far, although it is all based on feeling, but the feel at this time is amazing. I could clearly see that the arrow had hit its face.
It's still moving!
"Retreat!" I told them as low as I could.
It's scary enough now, and it's feared that continuing to make extra noises will disturb the darkness with more monsters.
We turned around and ran, I wasn't in the mood to blame Grayson, I just wanted to get out of this place right now.
We ran forward desperately, but the flickering candlelight in front of us cast the same shadow as the one behind.
We're surrounded!
"Defensive formation!" Grayson couldn't take care of it anymore, he shouted.
The four knights stood in a row in front of them, their shields raised, their swords raised forming their defensive stance. There's no way, no matter what happens in front of us, we have to kill it.
Sure enough, the same trolls appeared in front of us, staggering towards us with their legs on their heaviest legs. What I can't understand is why they walk without making a sound.
My arrows hit them, and I wish I could pierce them with one arrow. Or shoot their heads off.
But I can't. They are almost immune to damage dealt by my bow and arrows.
The trolls slowly pressed in front of the shields held by the knights, and at the moment of contact, their shields made a few muffled sounds, and the bodies of the four knights shook violently.
What the hell is so powerful?
The four people in front withstood the troll's attack, and the people behind looked at the gap and swung their swords to slash at the troll in front of them.
"Cut off their heads!" I shouted.
Slashing shoulders and necks didn't work, but when they cut off the troll's stiff head. Their bodies suddenly lose their strength and fall to the ground like puppets with broken strings.
We ignore their numbers!
There is always a limit to what can be cut down, and there are more and more of these bloodless guys who can only be effective by decapitation, and our defensive formation is quickly squeezed through.
In this small space, in the face of these powerful but slow trolls, although we killed more and more bravely, but a terrible thing still happened, a knight was pressed up by the troll tore his clothes, he could not break free, and was directly pressed to the ground by several trolls.
The roar of despair tore through the silence of the darkness.
I can't tell where these things came from. Only a few trolls were seen, and a few more. It's not a lot, but it's always popping up!
After cutting down two more trolls, I shouted, "Run, they're slow, we can get out!" Come on! ”
The three knights rushed to the front, followed by Grayson and I. We're running, jumping, dodging and dodging in this group of trolls.
I didn't want to feel what it was like to be scratched by them, and then another scream came from behind telling me that someone had been knocked down again.
The screams were sharp and desperate.
I don't dare to be distracted or careless. In addition to panicking, there was also a hint of guilt in the series of continuous screams. I can't save them!
When he rushed down the stairs, he was surprised to find that the walking dead had also appeared inside the stairs.
"Lay the torch and protect the light source. I'll deal with those monsters. I yelled.
At this point, I can't afford to lose any more light sources. If there was no light here, I think I'd go crazy.
Thankfully, the trolls in the stairs were scarce, which gave us a chance to breathe. When I slashed off a troll's head, I shouted, "Wait, let me catch my breath!" ”
Two of them were unfortunately killed, and now there are only six of us left. Their faces felt bloodless in the not-so-bright glow of the torch. I crouched down and plunged the blade into the corpse in front of me.
There was a dry grinding sensation from the tip of the knife, this was not a living corpse at all, but a dry corpse that had been dehydrated for a long time. They were covered in bandages, some of which were yellow and brown, while others were moldy and turned green.
I shone a torch at the severed head, which was wrapped in dry, wrinkled skin. The sheer size of the skull's utterly dehydrated skin made it look even more terrifying, and its long fangs were gone.
I'm sure it didn't have fangs when I cut it.
"Zombies." I looked up at them and said. "That's what I told you, trolls' voodoo spells." I looked at Grayson. He was speechless by now.
The number of zombie trolls on the stairs along the way has been significantly reduced. This gives us some of a respite. But when I felt like I had finally run up the stairs and ran to the entrance hall. From a distance, I saw that the hall was not only full of wriggling maggots, but also a group of corpses blocking the way.
