Volume 5 The Return of the King 153 Legends
There weren't a few people who told me what happened after this incident, some of them were a little more mentally normal, but there were a few who were already mentally deranged.
But the story they told me, despite the usual madness of watching them, was so nonsense that I couldn't tell what it was seeing. They weren't entirely sure what happened in that dark environment, and most people recalled the events of that night with all your guesses, I had my thoughts, you said yours and I said mine. Everyone doesn't say exactly the same, and what they hear, see, or feel is even different.
This caused me a certain amount of confusion, and I had to find them individually instead of putting them together, asking them again, and finally summarizing what each of them had seen, heard, and felt. It wasn't exactly the same, but the most common thing was that they all heard a loud noise, a behemoth approaching them, and some even experienced being passed by the monster.
And then they ran away after the giant thing appeared, and as for what it was, they divided it into three versions, but no matter how it was made up, that guy had an identity that everyone agreed on, a giant monster, a monster more terrifying than the undead and orcs.
One of the theories is that it was a ...... Snowman.
The legend of the Yeti is found in the local stories of Alterac, a large, hairy, white or grayish beast.
The Alterac people call it a beast, but many people believe that it is a humanoid creature, a wild species similar to humans that has a human appearance but is not comparable to humans in terms of intelligence and personality, and this wild species is called the Yeti.
I heard this rumor when I was in Ravenhold, because Ravenhold was originally built in the deep mountains and on a very high mountain, where there was no snow for a short time, so their legend that there was a snowman in the mountain should not be groundless, but I have been there for so long, so many times in the field training and duty, I have never seen that kind of thing.
But the legendary snowman is a little different from what they tell them, the legendary snowman is very big, and the thing they are talking about seems to be very big, and it seems to be much bigger than the snowman. The snowman grows to three meters and is already a scary existence in the story, but when these soldiers say that the monster came out, the ground seemed to tremble.
The earth is trembling...... You can imagine how big that thing is.
Some people claim that it's a snowman, but it's just an oversized snowman, maybe the king of snowmen, but I doubt it. But then when the defeated and surviving ones were in the camp, they heard some rumors that there were huge footprints in the snow, and the footprints were unbelievably large. However, there are different theories about how big it is, some people say that the footprint is the size of the mouth of a well, and some people say that it is the size of a windmill millstone. There isn't much difference in size, but it's just that these people don't know exactly what this thing looks like.
The second way of saying it is that it is a tree, or a tree spirit.
At that time, the Night Elves had already arrived here, but there was no large-scale formed army, but there were still a hundred and ten people. Humans are curious about the appearance of the Night Elves, and the vast majority of humans have never seen them, not even the High Elves of Quel'Thalas, let alone the Night Elves.
The Night Elves they describe are not cute at all, and they generally report that those people are actually no different from snowmen, except that one has hair on their bodies and one has no hair on them, and one is white and the other is light blue or lavender. And these elves have long and pointed ears, and their facial features are sharp and angular, and they don't look too much like the monsters in the legends against the backdrop of their already tall statures.
In their conversations, human soldiers generally don't like these scary Night Elves, and because they don't have much contact, humans are always used to looking at them with a curious eye. Although there were no onlookers, the frequent sideways glances of humans also made the elves very dissatisfied. Night Elves are generally about two heads taller than humans, and in the eyes of humans they are monsters.
And what appeared that night was also a monster, and these people who said it was a tree spirit often described that monster in a much more specific way, they depicted a nose and eyes, and some even said it quite vividly.
But no matter how you depict that monster, there is a unified characteristic, which is that it grows very large.
Presumably, those who say that the snowman is influenced by this statement, they say that the thing has legs thicker than the mouth of the well, and that it has weeds growing on its body, but those weeds grow in the middle of the rocks.
It seemed to be covered with stones, as if those stones were its scales. It rumbled as it walked, and the heavy-sounding footsteps seemed to crush anything that dared to stand in its way. Even if it can't be broken, it will always be trampled into ice, snow and dirt.
None of them knew where or where it came from, they just heard a loud vibrating sound, and then it grew louder and closer until they could hear that it was not far from them.
They didn't know what was going on, they wanted to care, but they were more concerned about not being knocked down by the undead soldiers who pounced on them from the darkness, which was something that most of those who survived were extremely sure of, because once they were knocked down, the possibility of survival was almost gone.
While dealing with the undead, the behemoth that made a loud noise was another problem they cared about, but the movement of the thing was not fast, although it sounded scary, but as long as they were sure that the thing was not coming towards them, they would not be afraid of the sword and forgot to raise it.
None of the people I told me had actually seen what it looked like, and they said they really wanted to see what it was, but the darkness made it almost impossible for them to protect themselves, let alone look at it, and they all claimed that one thing was that everyone who actually saw it was dead.
I thought it was a joke, I had the impression that most of these things were made up by the soldiers themselves, after all, I had heard similar rumors back then, especially after the Battle of Talenmir. So even if everybody says that, I'm going to laugh it off, they always like to put something more fantasy about it, like a curse or a magic or something like that, and once they've accepted the basic tone of the story, they're going to use their imagination to enrich the story and give it plausibility to make people believe it.
It's just that I'm not so easily fooled by their stories, and I've found some details that I think are reasonable or maybe really exist.
For example, this thing may be clad in armor, trolls don't have many iron tools, their weapons are more made of stone and sharp wood bones, and the armor is only made of wood or leather, and there are not many leather originals. This monster gave me the impression that it was a Loa deity of the Troll Clan, because one thing they had in common with the other two descriptions was that it had long, long fangs, which looked like trolls on the outside.
And I've seen the most powerful warriors among the trolls...... Berserker.
They wear armor, and that armor is made of wood. Since it's made of wood, it's fair to say that there are a few branches on it, and as for the stone that looks like scales, I'm more inclined to be its armor.
When I told them about trolls, they all shook their heads and said they didn't know what trolls were, which meant they didn't know or seen trolls, so they didn't know what this thing was. But I had the impression that it was a troll, but they insisted that it was a giant dryad that appeared that night.
And when it comes to the footprints left by the monster, they say very clearly, it is a very deep footprint the size of a millstone, but the footprint is similar to an oval. And when they describe the depth of the footprints, I always feel a little unbelievable, how much volume and weight must be to leave such thick footprints?
The third theory is even more bizarre, as they depict not a dryad but a stone monster, or something similar to a stone monster, based on the shape and depth of the footprints, which comes from dwarves, some of whom believe in dwarves more than their own kind.
According to the dwarves, it was indeed the stone men who appeared that night, and their bodies were made of stones, and they were very sure of what they said. But I feel that it should be a one-sided judgment made by the dwarves who are short and can't see more generally.
And when asked why grass and trees grow on the monster's body, their explanation is also very simple, that is, the earth element is the earth element, and the earth is the one that carries all things and sentient beings, and it is not an exaggeration to say anything.
The dwarves say that the earth elemental is their guardian element, and that it is only right that the earth spirits should appear to help them in times of trouble. And the gratitude to the dwarves for the humans who believe in this statement is also overflowing. And this thing eventually disappeared into the vast forest.
I still don't agree with this statement, how can such a big thing be missing, or maybe there are some things they don't need to know. That night in Alterac became a story, and so did the monster in Alterac Valley.
