Chapter 122: Little Giant
Harry and Ron stared at the giant, retreating all the way to a place where they could no longer retreat. Hermione, on the other hand, grabbed Lockhart's arm and hid behind him. Gollum fell to his knees between two trees that he hadn't had time to uproot. They looked up at his astonishingly large face, which looked like a gray full moon in the dimly lit clearing, and his features as if they were roughly carved into a huge stone ball. His nose was short, unshaped, and his mouth was tilted to one side, full of misshapen, yellow teeth the size of half a brick. His eyes were small by the standards of giants, and because he had just woken up, his brownish-green eyes were only half open. Gollum raised his dirty, ball-sized fist, rubbed his eyes hard, and then, with astonishing speed and agility, he jerked to his feet.
Lockhart was also startled, pulling out his wand in one hand and escorting Hermione, who was screaming, to retreat.
The tree at the other end of the rope tied to Gollum's wrists and ankles creaked horribly, and he was, as far as Hagrid had said, at least five and a half meters high. Sleepy-eyed and looking around, Gollum stretched out a hand the size of a beach umbrella, grabbed a bird's nest from the high branch of a huge pine tree, turned it over, and roared in great dissatisfaction, because there were no birds in it. The eggs inside fell to the ground like a grenade, and Hagrid covered his head with his arms to protect himself.
"Little goo," Hagrid shouted, looking up apprehensively to see if no more eggs had fallen, "I've brought you some friends to get to know you." Remember I told you I was going to bring them here? Remember, I told you I might go out and let them take care of you for a while? Do you remember, little Goo?"
But Goo Bo just let out another low roar, and it was hard to tell if he was listening to Hagrid, and he probably didn't even hear Hagrid talking. He was now grabbing the tip of the pine tree and pulling it towards himself, apparently enjoying how far it could bounce off when he let go of his hand.
"Listen, little Gollum, don't do that!" Hagrid shouted, "that's how you uprooted those trees—"
Lockhart finally cleared up his doubts about the habitat of the giants in France, and he asked Moody why the giants were pulling tree trunks......
Sure enough, the dirt next to the roots of the tree began to crack.
"I've got you a friend!" Hagrid cried, "Look, friend, look down, you big stupid man, I've brought you a good friend!"
The giant let go of the pine, which shook dangerously, and the pine needles rained down on Hagrid. He bowed his head.
"Goo, this one," Hagrid said, pointing to Lockhart, "it's Lockhart! he'll come here to teach you English if I'm gone, understand?"
"I don't guarantee ......" Lockhart now made up his mind that he would not let Hagrid leave Hogwarts at any cost.
"And these guys! Hermione, and Harry and Ron!"
Only then did the giant notice that they were there, and he hung down his huge stone-like head, and looked at them with sleepy eyes.
Gollum's hand suddenly reached out and grabbed Lockhart, who nimbly gave him a hand that should be in the way, and then pushed Hermione narrowly out of the way.
"Goo, bad boy!" Hagrid shouted, Hermione hiding behind Lockhart and clutching onto him, trembling and crying, "You bad boy!
The little giant impatiently pushed Hagrid away, losing interest in looking at them again, and Hagrid got up from the ground.
"Okay," Hagrid said vaguely, holding his nose in one hand and grabbing his bow in the other. "Hmm...... All right...... You've seen him—and now he'll recognize you when you come back...... Yes...... Ok ......"
Gollum was now pulling the pine tree, his stone-like face full of elation, and the roots creaked as they were ripped off the ground.
"Well, I suppose that's it for today," Hagrid said, "how about we—uh—we'll go back now?" Hagrid slung his bow over his shoulders again, his hand still on his nose, and led them into the woods.
"I said, giants are ferocious creatures!" Lockhart protested dissatisfiedly, if he had been caught by the giant, either he would have been injured or he had wounded the giant, in either case, it would be extremely troublesome.
"I'm sorry, Gildero, he didn't want to hurt anyone," Hagrid said apologetically, "he's just a little agitated." ”
"Hagrid, we know you're a good half-giant. Hermione said earnestly, "But you can't assume that all giants are good. ”
No one spoke for a long time, and after a while they heard a loud noise in the distance, apparently that Gollum had finally uprooted the pine tree. Hermione's pale face was gloomy, and she was worried. What happens when someone else finds out that Hagrid has hidden Gollum in the Forbidden Forest? Also, Professor Lockhart seems to have agreed to help teach the giant civilization. Hagrid, even if he had an amazing level of tolerance, could believe that the fanged monster was cute and harmless, and he shouldn't fool himself into thinking that Gollum Bo could live with humans.
"Wait," Hagrid said suddenly, and Lockhart nearly ran into him again, pulling an arrow from his quiver on his shoulder and placing it on his bow. Lockhart had no choice but to raise his wand, and after he stopped, they could now hear movement nearby.
"Oops," Hagrid whispered.
"Hagrid, I think we've told you," said a deep male voice, "and you're no longer welcome here?"
For a moment, the upper body of a man** seemed to float towards them in the dim mottled green sunlight. Then they saw him with his waist attached to a chestnut horse. The centaur has a proud, high-cheeked face, and long black hair. Like Hagrid, he carried a weapon, a longbow and a bag of arrows on his shoulder.
