Chapter 495: The Mission Leaves

"Gilneth stands before you!" The king shouted to the people around him, as well as to his own attaché, "Gilneth stands before you, and we will pay for the sins of the past and provide our strength for whatever the League may need!

He retreated to Idrik and the others. The Gilneth man lined up in an arc facing all directions except the entrance, so that no matter where the attendees were sitting, he or she could see a few members of Jean's team more or less.

"Lest some people think that we have no role in the battle and cannot protect our comrades and brothers, now we hope to dispel this misunderstanding......"

With that, Jean and his people changed shape.

Their bodies swelled, and their height and waist circumference increased by a third. Although the Gilnesian's coat was once wide, it was still too tight, and the shirts and waistcoats were crackling and tearing. Gilnes have thick hairs on their arms, legs, feet, chests, and even faces. Beneath their fur, displaced bones and stretched tendons creaked and crackled. As their bodies change, their limbs twist and deform, and their strong thighs resemble swift predators. They were all hunched, but they looked like sturdy beasts.

Under the attentive gaze of the attendees, the hands of the Gilneth man stretched out, and their nails turned into ferocious claws. However, the most shocking change is in their faces. Not only are the ears narrowing and elongated, but their muzzles sticking out and merging together. It turned into a bloody mouth. Sharp teeth can easily tear through flesh.

The werewolves stand in front of the Alliance.

The wolf-like creatures stood in place. Although they obviously have a desire in their hearts to run, to hunt. They did not run away from the crowd's gaze, but looked back confidently into the past.

Jean Greymane looked at Malfurion and Tyrande, his chest heaving with excitement. They nodded at him as well.

For these refugees, the best way to demonstrate Gilneth's value to the alliance is to show their full strength.

But Gilneth wasn't always inhabited by werewolves, and not all people were affected. Although many people are ...... And this is Malfurion's shame, for which he bears a significant responsibility.

It started with some druids who wanted to try their hand at wolf pack form. They summon the power to incarnate as a giant wolf. But by the time they discovered that this form would cause them to lose self-control, it was too late. Paid the price of blood for this.

Malfurion also nearly lost control, and it was up to the demigod Cenarius to save him. After finally understanding the danger, Malfurion banned the use of this form. But what he doesn't know is that a group of druids secretly get together and continue to try. They want to tame the giant wolf form by using the artifact Luna Scythe...... But he was turned into the first werewolf by the scythe.

After subduing these ferocious creatures, Malfurion vetoed the others' demands to destroy the werewolves, and instead imprisoned them in the subspace of the Emerald Dream Realm, where they were left to sleep under the sacred tree Daraniel.

This tragedy should have ended - if it weren't for the human mage Arugao. When Jean desperately ordered all the help to fend off the Scourge army outside the walls of Gilneis, the Archmage summoned the werewolves to the kingdom...... And once the werewolf curse appears. It spread rapidly through the crowd.

However, the Gilneys have found a way to control their ferocious instincts. And to transform that evil nature into a force, at least to some extent, not only for the benefit of the Alliance, but also for their eventual liberation of their homeland.

"We are Gilne," Glen Greymane growled, his voice unchanged, albeit slightly harsh. "We're Werewolves......"

The king howled.

The voice was not distressed or frightened, but only to reaffirm his power and that of his people. The effect was so desirable that even the gloomy Black Iron Dwarf seemed to have a great deal of respect and interest in the werewolf's power.

As Jean's howl grew louder, the werewolves around him joined in. However, when more werewolf howls were heard from the depths of the jungle outside the summit venue, the sound in front of them was overshadowed.

The howl lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough to leave an indelible memory for most of those present. When Jean had ceased to howl - and his people had stopped near and far - the King of Gilneth concluded, "We humbly ask to join the Union in the presence of many fraternal nations......

At first, no one answered, and the scene seemed a little unsettling for a while. Malfurion stood up and pointed to the werewolves. "Some of you have heard of the old legends of the murderous werewolves! You have heard the stories of their evil nature! Whether you are familiar with them or not, the werewolves standing before you are very different from the legends and the past! These fighters from Kyrgyzstan have tamed the curse! The terrible threat of the past is now forever a force for good, a force of the Alliance!"

The words of the Great Druid resounded through the room. Jean and the werewolves waited for the messengers to savor what Malfurion had said, and more importantly, what they had just witnessed.

Delegations whispered and soon became more enthusiastic.

Kudran suddenly stood up. "The Hammer Dwarves welcome the power of the werewolves...... Gilneth Power!"

Tworth immediately followed. "Theramore seconded!"

These statements were met with applause from the room, to which Gilneth applauded.

A number of ambassadors and their attachés greeted the people of Jean in various ways.

Tyrande touched her husband's hand and came out again to preside over the meeting. "You've all seen Gilneth's power and heard its plea to return to the Alliance!" The High Priestess spoke Malfurion's heart. "I think after watching this presentation, if there are no objections, we should start voting right away!"

The eyes of the High Priestess looked around the room. Didn't stay in the Stormwind seat for long. No one objected. Even Varian seemed reasonable.

"I ask for a voice vote!" So the Grand Druid announced according to the agenda agreed upon before the meeting. "Welcoming the werewolves to the Coalition with your voice!

People shouted in unison. Their enthusiasm is no less than the howls of the werewolves before.

Malfurion and Tyrande looked down at Jean, and he looked back at them gratefully.

At that moment, King Varian, who was sitting in the Stormwind delegation, stood up silently.

The results are immediate. The cheers came to an abrupt end. The two Night Elves and Jean looked at Varian together, but they couldn't tell any intention on his face.

"Members of the Alliance, hosts of the Night Elves, I have something to say. ”

Even Prince Anduin didn't seem to know about his father's plans, but he didn't seem worried, just curious.

Tyrande made an attentionful gesture to the people. Then he said, "Stormwind asked to speak. Please, King Varian. ”

The former gladiator and slave pondered for a moment, then said, "You all know that Stormwind and Gilneth have broken their hearts. And you all know why. ”

There was silence in the room. Jean's expression was cloudy, and he flattened his ears in concern, waiting for Varian to continue.

A sentry suddenly stood behind the High Priestess. Tyrande touched Malfurion's hand again, and he nodded, indicating that he would let the summit continue. The Grand Druid understood that at such a delicate moment, someone had come to disturb the High Priestess for something important. For example, the murder of two upper elves.

The third one? He couldn't help but think. The Great Druid prayed that this would not be the case, and leaned forward. Signaling to Varian that Tyrande's departure was not due to Stormwind.

Varian tilted his head, as if to say that the departure of the High Priestess did not offend him. Then, the Stormwind Lord continued. "The benefits that Gilneth can bring as an ally are clear. Though our fighting skills are superior to those of the Orcs and their allies, the kind of desire that the Horde has long relied on is something that we, because we are too civilized, no longer possess. Werewolves can give us a legitimate desire to defeat our enemies on the battlefield, to avoid the alliance from splitting, or to stand by while the horde continues to attack and plunder......

Jean's eyes widened, and even Malfurion rekindled hope with the speech.

"I assure you, I've thought about it for a long time. Varian said to the crowd. "Such an ally can help us easily curb the ambitions of the Horde, and even make them retreat!" The king pointed to Jean and the Gilnesians. "With such honor and courage allies, I am more than happy to fight side by side with them!"

His words caused a burst of cheers. Even the werewolves couldn't hold back any longer, and several young werewolves let out short howls.

Varian said as he turned to Malfurion. "Great Druid, I interrupted your voice vote earlier! I apologize for that! I want to speak early......"

Malfurion smiled and replied, "I'd be happy to call for another vote, King Varian—"

"There's no need for that. The human king's expression changed suddenly, shockingly. Varian looked at Jean Greymane with a gloomy face.

Varian spat in the direction of Gilneis.

"It's just a waste of time to call for another vote," the Stormwind Lord snarled at the other party below, "because I'll never allow these wild dogs to join the Alliance!"

Cries of astonishment rang out everywhere, especially among the werewolves. Idrik took a step in Varian's direction, but Jean grabbed the young warrior's shoulders and pulled him back. The two werewolves bared their teeth at each other, and Idrik quickly retreated.

"Honor and trust! That's what the Alliance needs, not these beasts! Even if they take on human form, they don't have either of those qualities! What if they decide to close off the country again? Do they want to be informed? Even then can we trust them?" Varian snapped his fingers, and his attaché all stood up, Anduin being the last and most hesitant of them to get up. "I have already said to many people that I do not see anything honorable, any glory, in this group of hounds...... Therefore, I will never vote in favour of the request to readmit them!"

With that, Varian left the venue with the Stormwind Mission. A commotion erupted among the rest of the crowd, and Malfurion Fury watched as all her hopes were dashed. (To be continued......)
