498 A belated judgment
The white dragon flew over the snow-capped Bright Moon Mountains.
Seven slender white towers looming between the clouds and mist, like seven pure white daggers piercing the heart of the firmament.
"Your Majesty, there is Eagle's Nest City ahead." Bran Stark Road.
Samwell nodded silently and patted Cleopatra on the neck, motioning for it to land.
As the political center of the valley, the Eagle's Nest is located at the top of the Bright Moon Mountains, the tallest castle in Westeros, and the most impregnable castle.
To reach Eagle's Nest, the invaders must first capture the Blood Gate on the narrow mountain path, then capture the Moon Gate Fort at the foot of the mountain, and then climb up the mountain through a very narrow sheep intestine path. The entire process will be exposed to the attacks of the Eagle's Nest City and the three sub-forts on the mountain.
This hilltop city is made of ornate white stone that blends with the snow and reflects dazzling brilliance in the sun.
The arrival of the white dragon caused a stir in the castle, but soon Lady Lysa Tully, mother of Robert Arryn, Duke of Eagle's Nest, was greeted by several heavily armed knights.
"Your Majesty Caesar, I really didn't expect you to come to Eagle's Nest City, and we didn't get notice......"
"We also happened to be passing by and didn't visit unofficially." Samwell said, "I won't stay too long, just rest for the night and leave." β
"Okay, okay."
Compared to the last time we met in Starfall City, Lady Lyza seemed to be a completely different person.
She looked like she was twenty or thirty years old, her reddish-brown hair was sparse and grayish, and her bloated and flabby body was hidden under an expensive velvet dress and jeweled bodice.
Her pale cheeks were powdered, but she still couldn't hide the furrow-like wrinkles, and she was only in her thirties, but she looked no different from an old woman in her fifties and sixties.
"Auntie," Bran Stark said, jumping off the dragon's back as Addo carried him, "how are you doing?" β
"It's good, it's good." Lady Lyza squeezed out a smile, "Bran, I heard that you fell from the tower, it's terrible! Fortunately, the seven gods blessed you and brought you back to life. β
"It's a pity that the Seven Gods didn't bless my uncle." Bran said suddenly, coldly.
Lady Lysa's face froze, and a flash of horror flashed in her eyes, but it disappeared immediately. She walked up to the king and said:
"Your Majesty, please hurry up and enter the house, it's cold outside."
"No matter how cold it is here, it can still be cold over the Great Wall?" Samwell said nonchalantly. But he still walked towards the castle.
The garden was covered with snow and white.
Samwell stopped in front of a tearful white female marble statue and turned back to Lady Lyza and asked:
"This should be the image of Alesa of House Arryn, right?"
"Yes, Your Majesty." Madame Lysa, though she did not know why the king was suddenly interested in the statue, replied respectfully.
"I heard that 6,000 years ago, Alesha Arryn watched her husband be murdered without shedding a single tear." Samwell said pointedly, "So the gods punished her for her death and wept." β
"Yes. The great waterfall of Alesha's Tears was named after her, and the tears of the gods punishing her flowed from the Bright Moon Mountains day and night, watering the black fertile fields of the valley plains. Lady Lysa said with some humility.
"The gods are just." Bran commented.
Samwell didn't say much, and continued on, entering the hall through a narrow fish-beam wooden door.
The dusk of the setting sun shone through the arched windows, and a dozen torches were inserted in the iron candlesticks between the windows, and the heat emitted warmed the entire hall.
At the end of the blue-veined white marble floor is a throne carved of fish beams and wood, and the back of the chair is painted with the crescent moon falcon coat of arms of the Arryn family.
Samwell sat down on the throne and asked:
"What about Duke Robert Arryn?"
"He fell asleep." Lady Lysa said.
"So early?"
"Yes, Your Majesty. Robert was still young and lethargic. β
"Now that the king is in the Vale of Arryn, won't the Duke come out to greet him personally?" Bran questioned.
"I'm sorry, Your Majesty. Robert has been in poor health, and he has just drunk poppy milk, and I am afraid it will be difficult to wake up......"
"Then forget it." Samwell waved his hand and asked instead, "What about Earl Anda Royce?" β
"Count Anda has returned to Runestone City." Lady Lysa said.
Samwell's eyes narrowed, and his tone became serious:
"He is the guardian of the valley appointed by me, and before Duke Robert comes of age, he should be in charge of the political situation in the valley, how can he return to Ruepstone?"
"Count Anda is not used to the cold of Eagle's Nest City." Lady Lysa glanced at the king cautiously, and said, "And Your Majesty, the position of guardian of the valley has always been hereditary ...... the Arryn family."
"Are you questioning my appointment?" Samwell Road.
The coldness in his tone instantly swept through the hall, and even the torch on the wall dimmed.
"No, no......" Lady Lysa felt a terrifying pressure that rolled over like a tidal wave, making her almost breathless.
She didn't understand why the king was so targeted at her, but thinking that her brother was about to marry the other's sister, she was ready to pull the relationship and ease the atmosphere:
"Your Majesty, I don't know when Edmure and Tara's wedding is, I want to prepare early and take Robert to the ceremony."
Samwell did not answer the question, but looked at Mrs. Lysa quietly with an indifferent gaze, until he saw a fine cold sweat oozing from the other party's forehead, and then spoke again:
"Gather all the knights in the castle, I have something to announce."
Madame Lysa had a sense of foreboding, but she did not dare to disobey the king's orders.
Soon, hundreds of knights loyal to the Arryn family in the Eagle's Nest gathered in the hall.
"Your Majesty, all the knights of the Arryn family have arrived." Lady Lysa said.
She stole a glance at the king on the high platform, who was sitting on the throne of fishbeams, the marble walls behind him reflecting a pale, cold light...... But this is not half as cold as the king.
He came from the Great Wall of Despair, as if he had also brought all the Xuan Ice from the Far North to Eagle's Nest City.
Lady Lyza was uneasy in her heart, but at the same time she kept comforting herselfβ
No way, he couldn't have known that!
But if not, why did the king treat himself like this?
There is also a hint of Alesha's tears......
"Ladies and gentlemen," said the king, his loud voice echoing through the hall, "today I want you to be a witness. β
Witness?
The knights of House Arryn were a little puzzled when they heard this, but they still listened quietly to the king's speech.
"Four years ago, the previous Duke of Eagle's Nest, Jon Arryn, was poisoned and died in Starfall. I was there at the time and witnessed the tragedy. Samwell continued, "I was determined to do justice to Duke Jon Arryn and find out who killed him! β
"Isn't the real murderer already ambushed, Your Majesty." Lady Lysa hurriedly said, "It's the 'Red Viper' Oberon Martell, you killed him in Tianji City with your own hands!" You've avenged Lord Jon Arryn! Witness to the Seven Gods, the Arryn family will always remember your kindness! β
"Really?" Samwell smiled faintly, turned his head to look at Bran Stark on the side, and asked, "I heard that the Three-Eyed Raven flies through time and sees the past. Bran, did you see the real murderer of Jon Arryn? β
Bran nodded, looked at Lady Lysa with indifference, and said:
"Auntie, you're the one who killed Jon Arryn."
As soon as these words came out, the hall was in an uproar.
The knights looked at Lady Lysa in disbelief.
"You're kidding, aren't you? Brand? Lady Lysa's hands trembled, and her face became paler than the whitestone walls of Eagle's Nest.
"I can swear by the Stark family's honor." Bran said solemnly, "There is no lie in what I say. β
"Nope! Never! Lady Lysa screamed, "You're lying! How could I have murdered my own husband! β
"Because you don't love your husband at all." Bran continued in an indifferent tone, "You love Petyr Berish, the 'Littlefinger', and it was he who instructed you to poison Jon Arryn. β
The chatter in the hall suddenly became louder.
"Lies! It's all a lie! Lady Lysa pointed at Bran with a trembling finger, her face becoming hideous, "Why do you want to harm me!" I'm your mother's sister! β
"The gods will not tolerate those who kill their relatives." Brandau.
Lady Lysa trembled with anger, but then she saw the king on the high platform, and hurriedly said:
"Your Majesty, don't believe Bran's lies! How could I do such a thing, I ......"
"If I believe it." Samwell interrupted faintly.
Madame Lysa froze in place, as if she had become an ice sculpture.
Samwell spoke again, asking:
"Rysa Tully, why didn't you go when Robert Baratheon held the trial of the Red Viper in King's Landing and invited you to testify?"
"I ......," cried Lady Lyza at once, "I fear revenge from the Red Viper, yes, I'm afraid he will poison me too!" β
"Oh? yes. Samwell said, "What about the love affair with Littlefinger?" β
"It's all a lie!" "How could I possibly fall in love with a guy of humble origin," exclaimed Lady Lyza! Have you ever been to the territory of the Baerichy family? There are only desolate coasts, craggy boulders, sheep droppings and horse manure! β
"If that's the case, then why did you conceive such a child of a little nobleman?" Bran asked.
Hearing this, Lady Ryza stood still as if struck by a bolt of lightning, and remained motionless for a long time.
"Yes, Auntie, I know that." Bran said, his eyes flashing with pity and a wisdom not for his age, "You don't have to go through the trouble to deny it. β
Samwell also spoke:
"Actually, before he died, Littlefinger told me all this. It's just that I haven't had the time to deal with this matter for all these years, and you've been hiding in Eagle's Nest. But Ryza Tully, you can't hide forever. The gods won't let you go on hiding.
Sooner or later, a righteous judgment will come. β
Madame Lysa staggered in place a few times, and collapsed, no longer struggling to argue.
She smiled sadly, put her hands on her stomach and rubbed them, and said:
"Yes, I love Petyr. How many ups and downs, how many torments we have experienced between us. You won't know. I did conceive a very sweet little baby for him. β
Her countenance turned hideous: "But they took him!" With a cup of moon tea...... When my father brought it to me, I had no idea what I was drinking! They murdered my child!
And then throw me to a smelly old thing!
I hate them!
I hate everyone!
Petyr told me he would avenge our children!
I've got my revenge!
Hahahaha!
Jon Arryn, that old thing doesn't know who killed him until he dies!
Hahaha......"
Listening to Lady Lyza's crazy words, the knights of the Arryn family changed color, and finally someone couldn't help but shout angrily:
"Kill her! Avenge Lord Jon! β
"Kill her!"
"Kill her!"
More and more voices began to echo, resounding through the hall.
Samwell rose from the Fishbeam Throne and stepped down from the high platform to Lady Lyza, reaching out and grabbing her arm.
She didn't struggle, and let the king drag her.
Samwell made his way to the center of the hall, where two slender stone pillars stood and a narrow fish-beamed wooden door opened into the marble wall.
It closed tightly, with three heavy bronze deadbolts attached.
But through the gaps, you can still hear the sound of the wind howling.
"This is the Moon Gate......" Lady Lyza's face turned extremely pale at the sight of the crescent moon carved on the door.
Probably aware of what the king was going to do, she suddenly began to struggle.
But in Samwell's presence, that struggle was futile.
He held down Madame Lysa as he lifted a bronze deadbolt, pulled it out, and threw it onto the marble floor.
Then came the second, and then the third......
Bang β
As soon as the third deadbolt was pulled, the heavy wooden door was blown open by the wind and slammed against the wall.
The wooden frame was covered with snow, and the cold wind poured frost into the hall.
Lady Lyza shuddered:
"Please, Your Majesty! Mercy! Mercy! I have a baby! My brother is going to marry your sister! Mercy! β
"A woman like you does not deserve mercy."
Samwell said, clasping her wrists with his backhand, locking her behind her back, and forcibly pushing her to the moon gate.
Outside the door, there is only blue sky, snow, wind, and void.
Lady Lyza screamed, her right foot stepped on a patch of snow, and the snow slipped silently down the moon gate and disappeared into the endless void.
Obviously, in addition to the air below, there is still air, and the Eagle's Nest Fort, which is built against the mountain, is an abyss below.
"Nope! No! Lady Lysa cried.
"This is a belated judgment." Samwell Road.
Then give it a gentle push.
Lady Lysa staggered forward and plunged headlong into the moon gate.
She screamed, but quickly dissipated into the void.
For a long time, only the cold wind howled endlessly.
