Chapter 469: Ash Valley
Hadrisha finished her patrol of the outpost and returned to her headquarters. She was depressed, and not just because she had lost an eye. All the outposts were functioning well, but the hostile reports given to her by the officers on duty upset Hadrisha. There were some areas where there should have been a small amount of orc activity, but the report said that nothing had been found. There are many clues in the places where there is usually no activity, though none of them are as intense as what happened to Hadrisha and her party. A few footprints were found here, a broken arrow with a tribal emblem was found there, or a sudden decrease in prey somewhere...... Taken together, these events are not telling, but taken together, they are indicative of growing troubles.
The Commander sat cross-legged on a straw mat in his room. To her right, an overturned water glass and a small pool of half-dried water indicate a previous failed attempt. Due to her impaired vision, Hadrisha had some sensory impairments. Even though she was much more proficient now, she still had to hesitate for a moment to make sure her fingers were getting the right parchment.
She examined a series of reports from the various outposts, and the remaining one-eyed swept from one to the other. However, as Hadrisha looked towards the report on the far left, she suddenly realized that Dani was standing there waiting.
For a moment, Hadrisha noticed the impatient look on her adjutant's face. The expression was fleeting, and only the firm expression of a sentry lieutenant remained.
Hadrisha didn't know how long Dani had been waiting there. The Commander tried not to think about what would happen if she was at war at the moment, and it wasn't Dani who was standing in her blind spot, but an orc. When she got up to look at Danie, Hadrisha showed no frustration, either for her mistakes or for her adjutant's impatience.
"What's the matter?"
"You called me here. ”
Hadrisha did call, but she forgot about it. So she nodded and said, "I've read all the reports. I believe the alarm must be raised to Darnassus immediately. The orc attacks near the outpost were the most annoying, but not the only ones so far. ”
"They've been to that area before. Do you think this conflict is that important?"
"It's important enough to inform General Santis Hazuki right away. Find a Hippogriff rider and be ready to take off in a quarter of an hour. ”
Dani saluted and turned to leave. Hadrisha looked at the report one last time, then picked up a quill and scribbled on the parchment as she could think of the pertinent construction and the connections between the events. By the time she finished writing, Dani had returned.
"The rider is ready. I'm going to pick Aladya Yunxiang. ”
The Commander nodded approvingly. Aladia is a seasoned rider and perhaps one of the best in all of Ashvae.
Hadrisha sealed the parchment into a small pocket, then stood up again. She walked towards where the messenger was waiting, and Dani was a step behind her. The messenger rode a large pale green animal, with long clawed front legs and a crested head of a bird of prey, which also had a pair of long, terrible antlers, and a body resembling the strongest of stags. His wings are as bright orange as the setting sun. The eyes of the Hippogriff shone fiercely and wisely. They are allies of the Night Elves, not property or pets. Riders, on the other hand, do more to communicate with them than to make them.
As the Commander approached, Eladhia leaned over in greetings. She was even thinner than Dani. On the other side of the saddle bridge was her moon blade and a bag full of feather arrows. Her longbow rested cross-body over her shoulder.
"It can't be given to anyone but the general," Hadrisha commanded the messenger, handing her pocket.
"Don't think about anyone," Eladhia promised. She straightened up and saluted Hadrisha, then tucked her pockets into a large bag that hung from the curved saddle bridge under her seat.
"Hurry up," the commander continued. "Watch out for the sea. ”
"Storm is our fastest horned eagle. Eradia patted her mount's neck. The Hippogriff nodded, its eyes twinkling expectantly. "No one can catch up with him. ”
With that, she drove the majestic mount to takeoff. The others receded, and the storm spread its broad wings and rose easily into the sky.
Hadrisha looked at the pair and couldn't help but feel a pang of envy in her heart. As a commander, she rarely had the opportunity to ride such a mount.
"Dani, I want you to double the number of patrols. "When the courier and the horned eagle turned into a vague dot," Hadrisha said. "Day and night. Especially at night. ”
"Orcs are clever enough to time their infiltration during the day. Dani pointed out to her, because most of the Night Elves were asleep at the time.
"That's why we pay special attention at night. ”
Her adjutant did not refute her judgment. Hadrisha dismissed Daini and returned to her quarters. There was no furniture in the room except for a straw mat and some necessary copywriting tools. The only thing she used as a bed was a larger, thicker straw mat. Unlike some officers, Hadrisha never treated herself leniently, and she slept like the soldiers.
It didn't take long, the veteran commander thought to himself. It won't take long for Eladhya to reach Darnassus. It didn't take long to fly over. She was happy about it. General Santis will learn what she fears and work about it.
Despite this, Hadrisha knew they needed to add more outposts. The tired commander lay down on her couch and began to calculate how best to arrange the available troops under his command. This calmed her mind even more. By the time the letter reached the general, and her plan was in order, the tribe would be in for a terrible surprise if they dared to instigate a new attack. As long as they disrupted their plans, the orcs had nothing to worry about.
Satisfied with her plan, and anxious to rest to relieve the pain in her eyes, Hadrisha finally fell asleep peacefully.
Soon, the Grey Valley will be safe again...... (To be continued.) )
