Chapter 168: Slughorn (Part I)
"Get your wand ready, Harry. He said in a brisk tone.
"But I can't use magic outside of school, do I, sir?"
"In the event of an attack," Dumbledore said, handing the Rock Sugar Gourd to his left hand and drawing his wand in his right hand, "I give you permission to fight back with any magic and spell you can think of. I don't think you need to worry about being attacked tonight, though. β
"Why, sir?"
"Because you're with us," Dumbledore said confidently, not forgetting to tease Lockhart, "the Headmaster of Hogwarts, and the best man in the world at dealing with the Dark Arts." β
"I don't think I can help much...... "Lockhart said helplessly, "what the hell do you want me to do?"
"It's alright, Harry. Lockhart patted him on the back, "Occlumency, maybe it will make you feel better." β
"Occlumency doesn't work," Dumbledore asked, looking down at him with concern. "It's a feeling that you need to get used to. β
"I'm fine," said Harry, rubbing his ears, which seemed to be reluctantly leaving the privet road, "but I seem to prefer to fly on a broomstick." β
Dumbledore smiled, "This way." β
"Then you sue me, Harry," Dumbledore said, "your scars...... Does it hurt all the time?"
Harry subconsciously reached to his forehead and touched the lightning-shaped scar.
"No," he said, "I've been on Occlumency since the last time." β
Lockhart and Dumbledore both looked satisfied.
"I can see that Professor Lockhart taught you well," Dumbledore said, "and I don't think Voldemort would dare to share his mind with you anymore." β
"Well, I'd love that. Harry said that it was an uphill battle to fight Voldemort with Occlumency. "Well, where the hell are we?
"This is the charming village of Badley Barberton. β
Lockhart knew what they were doing, but he didn't know why they were taking him: "What am I going to do?"
"Ah, by the way, I haven't sued you yet. "But it can't be helped, though, you, Gildero, seem to have broken the curse of the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, but now we have to invite my old colleagues back to work at Hogwarts." β
"What professors are we missing?" asked Harry.
"The Muggle Studies professor is resigning, and of course, this old man is definitely not going to be a Muggle Studies professor. β
"What am I going to do?" Lockhart asked, knowing they were going to find Professor Slughorn, but Harry could do it alone.
"Oh, take you, and you'll be sure to go from ninety to ten, Gildero. Dumbledore said vaguely, "You're almost as famous as Harry. β
"Do I need to do something to please him?" Lockhart asked.
"It seems you've guessed it, Gildero, and I'm impressed by your wit. Dumbledore bowed, "It's okay if you don't do anything, of course, if you want to save time, you can say something." β
Lockhart, of course, wasn't really that witty, and he nodded helplessly.
They walked up a steep, narrow street lined with rows of houses. The chill that has enveloped the whole of Britain has not been able to linger here.
"What about me?" asked Harry.
"Be respectful, Harry, and feel free. Dumbledore said lightly.
"Professor, why can't we just apparition to your old colleague's house?"
"Because that's as rude as kicking open someone's door. Dumbledore said, "Politely ask us to offer other wizards the opportunity to reject us. However, most wizarding dwellings have magic to ward off undesirable apparitions. For example, at Hogwartsβ"
"βYou can't apparilate in the castle or in the hunting grounds," Harry said prerisely, "Hermione sue me." β
"That's right," Lohart nodded, "actually, Hogwarts is one of the strongest places in the world to resist Transfiguration. β
"Sir, I read in the Daily Prophet that something happened to Ms. Amelia Bones......"
"What's wrong with her?" Lockhart was startled, the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement had almost the strength of Scrimgeour, "What's going on." β
"I'm sorry, she must have been the victim of a fierce battle," Dumbledore said, turning down another straight street, "no doubt Voldemort or a few Death Eaters did it." He was succeeded by Rufus Scrimgeur, formerly the head of the Auror Office. β
"How's he going?" asked Harry.
"Very strong, he can protect us. Lockhart said firmly, he couldn't even imagine that such a powerful wizard stayed in the Auror heap every day, how Voldemort killed him as Minister of Magic in the original story? It made him a little uneasy, he wouldn't have inadvertently killed Pandora's grandfather, would he?
"There is no doubt," said Dumbledore, "that he is very capable, a man of determination and courage."
"He's fought in last year's Ministry of Magic war, and he's been fighting the Mystics head-on, have you forgotten, Harry? Lockhart reminded.
"Oh yes......"
"That's it. They approached a neat little stone house in the garden, and Harry was thinking about Scrimgeour and Voldemort fighting, when Dumbledore suddenly stopped, and Lockhart also stopped, and Harry was caught off guard and crashed into Lockhart.
"Oh my gosh. Oh my God, my God, my God. Dumbledore let out a slight exclamation as he held something in both hands.
The two of them followed Dumbledore's gaze towards the well-maintained path, and Harry's heart sank. The hinges of the front door opened, and the door hung crookedly. Of course, Lockhart wasn't nervous.
Dumbledore looked across the street, and there seemed to be no one.
"Harry, draw your wand and follow me. He whispered, he didn't seem to find it strange at all to hold the rock sugar gourd in his left hand, and had no intention of putting it away.
Several people cautiously entered the house.
"Fluorescent flicker!" Lockhart briefly suspected that he would use the rock sugar gourd in his left hand as a wand again, but he didn't. The tip of Dumbledore's wand lit up, reflecting a narrow doorway. There is also an open door on the left. Dumbledore walked into the living room with his glowing wand held high, Harry following closely behind and Lockhart being the last to enter.
