Chapter 354: Patriarch of Africa
To say that he is a fundamentalist is not to wronged him, in fact this is the basic doctrine of Protestantism.
In addition to the Bible, there are also three parts of the texts recognized by the Catholic Church, that is, the expositions of doctrines written by the theologians of the church from the apostolic age onwards—in the words of the Central Plains, similar to the results of the commentary on the Three Legends of the Spring and Autumn Period. In addition to this, the authoritative orders of the popes are the third part.
In the theory of Catholicism, these three are juxtaposed and have a sacredness. However, Protestantism put forward the principle of "sola biblica", which does not recognize the exegesis of the priests of the past, nor the decrees of the church, but only the scriptures themselves. This is the idea of fundamentalism.
The biggest problem with this line of thinking is that on the surface it is only the original version of the scriptures, but in reality everyone knows that it is not enough for a religion to function properly. The Bible itself is very scarce and certainly needs to be expanded.
Moreover, the original doctrines in many places have various problems that must be patched up so that the theories can be self-consistent. Because of these problems, it has even led to church splits many times. In order to pursue fundamentalism, the answers and information obtained by many generations of theologians, who have been researching and arguing incessantly, and even using violence and warfare, have all been discarded, and the consequences can be imagined.
Therefore, even if the sacredness of the commentaries is denied, the act of commenting on the scriptures cannot be denied, and the actual result is that the interpretation and commentary of the scriptures must be re-executed.
Without a unified authority and a fixed and strict process, the result is that not only do everyone continue to comment on the scriptures according to their own understanding, but also after there are no constraints, all kinds of nonsense and blind thinking come out. It is said that it is the pursuit of the original doctrine, but in fact, it is a crowd of demons dancing wildly, and no one can control anyone.
In the process of observing the operation of the church, Guo Kang can find that in many cases, the superficial phenomenon and the actual effect are completely opposite.
The Catholic Church is tightly organized, and there is a strict review process for exegesis to ensure that there are no problems before it is officially announced. It would seem that this should be a very conservative religious group. But in reality, the church attaches great importance to "keeping up with the times" and often uses its hermeneutical power to make constant adjustments to ensure that it can keep up with the times.
Failure to recognize all existing texts outside of the Bible is ostensibly an anti-authoritarian reform, but in reality it is a step backwards.
Therefore, we must be cautious when reforming. Not all reforms are guaranteed to be successful, and it does not mean that all reforms are good. Blindly attacking authority does not necessarily lead to good results. This experience may not only apply to the field of religion.
The emergence of Protestantism is probably an inevitability of European history. As the times entered modern times, Catholic areas "collapsed and became happy", and it was natural for this trend of thought to appear. Now, in fact, there is already such a trend.
Moreover, this trend of thought is widely spread all over the world. It may have been under their influence that the Celestial world, which came into contact with this theory, also gave rise to fundamentalism about 200 years later.
The religious community of the Celestial Sect was much looser, lacking a core that could dominate hermeneutics and sift through theories. There were many sects, and some of the teachings were "deviant" than those of the Purple Horde: as part of the worship of God, the Purple Horde simply did not recognize Moses, and they did not even recognize the "sealing prophets" of the Heavenly Horde.
For example, one of the prominent scholars of Asia Minor, the Alevites, mainly worshipped Ali. There are also some sects who simply believe that their own leader is the sealing prophet, and that others, such as the Prophet Muhammad, are all precursors to the king. Moreover, there are quite a few such sects, from India to Syria, everywhere.
This loose situation may also make them vulnerable to fundamentalism. But then again, it's hard to say who will cause more damage to the world, the fundamentalist worship of God or the fundamentalist Celestial Sect......
However, just because it will happen doesn't mean you have to accept it. On the contrary, Guo Kang can be sure that the Purple Horde will inevitably not accept this inevitable trend.
Because the Roman Church in the Purple Horde was itself "Protestant" in the true sense of the word.
The scriptures used by the Roman Church now are called the Heavenly Father Sutra, which includes three parts: the Tao Te Ching, the Shangshu Sutra, and the Heavenly Brother Salvation Sutra.
Among them, the "Tao Te Ching" was originally written by Patriarch Zhang Da, referring to Taoist classics and orthodox scriptures. The Ancient Book of Shang is modeled after the Confucian format of the Book of Shang, adapting some of the stories of the Old Testament that they think can be retained, and then adding various materials from ancient Egypt to ancient Rome, and even some stories from the Central Plains. The "Heavenly Brother Salvation Sutra" is an excerpt from the Bible "New Testament", and a large number of Taoist theories are added, and the concepts put forward in the "Taiping Sutra" can be found in it......
This made Guo Kang suspect that the Roman Church was made up by Patriarch Zhang Da and others because they had been hit hard in the Central Plains and in order to completely enjoy it.
Later, when he learned more, he did not doubt it - because he checked the information and found that Patriarch Zhang had put forward the idea that the distribution of the five patriarchal districts was too unreasonable, so he hoped to redivide the Roman homeland into 36 patriarchal districts and establish a more effective system to ensure the efficient operation of the church.
This idea had already been proposed by him when the Purple Horde was still at war with the native nobles in Bulgaria. Later, when the Khan court took control of Dadu, he really began to try to implement it.
Since most of Rome's homeland was not in his hands, he also set up a large number of "remote collar" titles. Judging from the documents, there were many honorary titles such as "Patriarch of Afrika" and "Judge of Gaul in the Mountains".
Later, probably because he had dealt with other forces a lot, he felt embarrassed, and his successor, Yin Daochang, hid these titles invented by his master.
So Guo Kang is very sure that it is indeed these Taoist priests who are making up for fun......
Of course, this is not nonsense, after all, the organizational skills of the early Taoists were really high, and their experience was certainly very useful. But it also made the Purple Horde doomed to be alien to Protestantism – because it was so new.
Fundamentalists recognize only two parts of the Bible and no other works; The texts of the Church of Rome were almost entirely new works written by themselves, and it was only later that other texts began to be recognized in order to be compatible with other Orthodox denominations. This is already a contradiction at the level of undying.
Thinking that in the future, it is indispensable to have to fight with the enemies that keep popping up for this reason, Guo Kang felt that his head was big. Of course, the group of people who are dehuan may be happier. In Rome, many people are probably worried about not fighting......
