Chapter 40 Mining Taxes

Chapter 40 Mining Taxes

The main ethnic group in Lijiang is the Naxi people (their Dongba hieroglyphs are very interesting, interested readers can search for them). The Naxi people have only two big surnames: one surnamed "Mu" and one surnamed "He". In short, the surname Mu is the Tusi family, and the surname He is the common people.

The surname Mu was given by Zhu Yuanzhang - in the past, the Naxi people were father and son. In the fifteenth year of Hongwu, Zhu Yuanzhang sent his son Mu Ying to pacify Yunnan, and the Naxi leader Ajia Ade led the crowd to annex. In order to commend his merits, Zhu Yuanzhang removed a pinch from his surname, took the word "wood", and gave it as a surname, so "Ajia Ade" was called "Mude" in the future. In the following year, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered Mu De to "hereditary local official prefect, forever order to prevent the stone gate and the town of the Tartar".

By the way, there is a chance to go to the Mufu in Lijiang, Yunnan, which is worth seeing. The portraits of the Tusi in the past dynasties are more distinctive: the face is either black or white - the black-faced is the military general, the white-faced is the Wenchen, the prefect of the peaceful years. The understanding of the Naxi compatriots is very philosophical: leading the troops to fight, the wind and the sun are exposed, can it not be dark? Reading in the house all day long, without leaving the house, can it not be in vain?

Reasonable!

By Gu Baihua's generation, the Gu family had already entered the military and had taken root at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Gu Baihua, who was seventeen or eighteen years old at the time, was favored by He Shixun, the commander of the guard, because he was bold and able to ride a fierce horse, and was promoted to patrol inspection. Although it is only a ninth grade, after all, it is a proper court official.

This time's toast is called Kizou (famous in history), and he also likes Kotani.

In the interior of the Ming Dynasty, there is a saying that "good iron does not nail, and good men are not soldiers", and ordinary people look down on military households. However, in ethnic minority areas, people are very simple, especially advocating masculinity. Although Master Mu himself is famous in history, he is also brave - he was only eleven years old when he first attacked Tusi, and Tusi (Tibetan) in Sichuan Township in the neighboring province thought that the young man could be bullied, and led thousands of horsemen to invade the border village for plunder. The young Tusi Muzeng said with indignation: "One day of the enemy, several generations of trouble", the handsome family will face the battle, "hold the drum and beat the drum, brave the arrow and stone to advance", won a complete victory, and took advantage of the victory to chase the remnants of the Kou to Muli, Sichuan, Xiangcheng and Tibet's Mangkang and Yanjing and other places!

The people of the time praised and said: "The husband is not a young man"!

It is logical that Master Mu with such a personality likes Gu Baihua.

There was a group of thieves from the Tibetan side, it was said that there were only six or seven, but the commotion was quite large, and it was very harassing, and several villages were in a hurry. There is no distinction between the military and police in the Ming Dynasty, and the prefect's yamen can't enter the mountain, so Master Mu asked Commander He for help, and He Shixun handed over the task to Gu Baihua.

The Kotani patrol led thirteen people into the mountain.

After more than half a month, eight returned, and six companion corpses were carried back on horseback.

Of the eight who were alive, all of them were wounded.

Hanging under the horse's neck is the head of the nineteenth-level Tibetan border thief!

Gu Baihua, who was covered in blood clots, stuck his armor and couldn't get rid of it, got off the horse and scolded: "The private baby drinks people (deceives)!" Six or seven? Rini & Ma Laozi was hacked to clear the pain (deceived very badly)! Nineteen, not one of them made it! ”

The Naxi men on the border of Yunnan are not so particular, and after a big drink, Master Mu Zeng and Gu Baihua vomited the flower hall of Mufu all over the ground. Later, although there was no official appointment, in fact, Bai Hua Ruodang (the meaning of "warrior" in the Dongba culture of the Naxi people) became the head of the horse in the Yamen of the Tusi Prefect's Mansion.

The Mosuo people on the shores of Lugu Lake in Lijiang are a matrilineal clan society with a custom of "walking marriage", and they are called "Axia" – both men and women live in their mother's house. Men do not marry, women do not marry, feeling in love, men go to women's homes at night to spend the night, leave in the morning, and give birth to children who are raised by women. Combined with voluntariness, break up freely, as long as the man does not come, or the woman closes the door, even if the relationship between Asha is dissolved after a while, both parties can find another sweetheart. Contrary to what most people think, this is a serious matter: you can have many asha in your life, but you can't have two at the same time – you have to end one relationship before you can start another. There are also two parties who live together, and when they don't want to be together, they go back to their respective homes. The Mosuo people believe that feelings are sacred and have little to do with property, labor, child support, etc.

Don't look at Master Mu Zeng is a Naxi ethnic group, and his Confucian cultural literacy exceeds 99% of the Han people: he is the author of seven poetry collections, more than 1,000 poems, and has been appointed as the political envoy of Guangxi! Master Mu, who is full of poetry and books, respects the Han culture, and of course does not adopt this kind of marriage custom in his family. On the other hand, the ethnic minorities in the border areas advocate bravery, and they do not have the sour problems of the Han people in the mainland, such as "the military is considered a cheap industry", and they like Gu Baihua, so they have the heart to choose a daughter-in-law for him in the generation of children and nephews. And the latter, who has accumulated merit in the camp and has been promoted to deputy general (martial arts from the seventh grade), Master Mu will also make proper arrangements for him in the Yamen of the Tusi Prefect's Mansion. More importantly, there are copper mines in Lijiang! The guards and the local government are mining and minting money, and life is relatively wealthy - if there are no later changes, what is paved in front of Gu Baihua will be a broad road within the Ming system.

It's a pity that all this has completely changed because of the arrival of one person.

Yang Rong.

Yang Rongben Da Nei is the father-in-law of Shang Shan Jian, and when he saw that the other fathers-in-law were making money, his eyes were red, so he said to Wanli: "There are treasure wells in the Ava and Mengmi regions, and they are intended to be attached (these two places are at the junction of Ming and Burma, which belong to Myanmar at this time, or, it can also be understood as a semi-independent tribe), and you can increase your income by hundreds of thousands of taels per year (hundreds of thousands of years of income)!" ”

Whether it was a courtier at that time or a historian now, everyone called the Wanli Emperor, and they all liked to add a common sentence: asking for money and shamelessness - well, the Wanli Emperor who asked for money and shameless.

Therefore, Ah Rong, a waiter in the restaurant, immediately became Mr. Yang, chairman of the Yunnan Mining Bureau, who enjoyed the treatment of deputy ministers.

The concept of national boundaries was different then than it is today. In terms of the theoretical cognition of the Ming side, Myanmar is a vassal state, but this "vassal country" is not as obedient as Chao Xian, and there is just a little friction from time to time. Whether it is the Ava Ministry, the Mengmi Ministry, or even the Tusi of the Yun, Gui, Sichuan, and Tibetan generations, the imperial court regards them as "barbarians", and their respective territories are not completely regarded as "an inseparable part of the Ming Empire" like the mainland: as long as the suzerainty of the Ming Dynasty is recognized verbally, generally speaking, the degree of autonomy is very high, and the wars between them are often turned a blind eye to each other...... So these places are not very peaceful. However, for thousands of years, the Central Plains Dynasty has adopted a similar policy of "restraint": on the one hand, it uses a huge military volume to maintain deterrence, and on the other hand, it gives some small favors and small favors to material interests, so as to maintain a good situation of passable border tranquility.

Mr. Yang doesn't care about stability, unity or disunity - don't talk nonsense, the emperor sent us here. Loyal or not, look at the action!

When I arrived in Yunnan, I first dug for gems in Awa Mengmi, causing a lot of trouble. The magistrate Chen Yongbin complained to Wanli in a letter: It's not okay to mess around like this, it's easy to cause border trouble. Wanli is looking at the account book in Meizizi, "sparse and stay" (throw it aside and ignore it).

Because Yang is always the emperor's person, as long as the emperor doesn't speak, the magistrate just doesn't recruit him, so Mr. Yang continues to come nonsense. The local Tusi found that "the inner annex (the tribe is the subject of the Ming Dynasty) does not protect the territory, but the annex is safe", so he left Germany.

The local Tusi who rode the wall took the initiative to take refuge, and of course the king of Burma was happy. The Burmese people are fierce and engage in mass violence when they are in a hurry. Mr. Yang found that the trouble was a bit big, and if he messed around again, he would have to fight a battle to destroy the country. With his own weight, in order to calm the "border trouble", the emperor could figure out whether to give him to the Burmese people to dispel the breath and calm the people, or choose a war that would cost millions of taels, so he didn't dare to toss there anymore and set his sights on the territory.

Not surprisingly, he discovered a copper mine in Lijiang!

What's even worse, he insisted that after scientific demonstration, the one with the highest copper content is under the cottage of Master Muzeng!

Obviously, at this time, Master Mu's political consciousness still needs to be improved: he actually mobilized manpower and drove away Mr. Yang's demolition team three times and five by two. A guy who rushed to the front, with a round head and a round face, dressed in Naxi ethnic costumes, carried a stick - this guy was originally carrying a long knife, but was snatched by Master Mu: "Use this", and then stuffed a stick for him - chased Mr. Yang's demolition captain Zhang Anmin two hills.

Since then, Zhang's team has left a phobia of wood, and let Mr. Yang say that he will not stay in Lijiang anymore, so Mr. Yang had to transfer him to Tengyue Prefecture (now Tengchong) to preside over the work of the local tax bureau (tax factory).

This guy with a round head and a round face who fights and doesn't want to die is Gu Baihua.

Violent resistance to demolition? It's worth it! Mr. Yang was anxious and ordered Xiong Duo, the prefect of Yunnan, to transfer troops to attack Master Mu's cottage.

Governor Xiong was frightened on the spot: "Father-in-law Yang, Ambassador Yang, I can't help it!" Master Mu was a secular position personally granted by my grandfather back then, and he was also the prefect of my Ming Dynasty! The prefect beats the prefect, unheard of for eternity, father-in-law! This thing is called a bastard in the small and a rebellion in the big one! ”

Who said that Mr. Yang has no hard parts? Mr. Yang's hands are very hard! How could it be possible to listen to your nonsense, Mr. Yang didn't say a word, on the one hand, Xiong Duo was greedy for ink mining taxes - well, why did you help her if you didn't hit her? Oh, wrong, why should you do good deeds without taking benefits? On the other hand, in the name of angels, troops from neighboring provinces were transferred, and one of Master Mu's stockades was really demolished!

Old Man Mu pondered for a while, and forcibly pressed Gu Baihua, who was holding a knife and had red eyes: "Don't worry, it's not time yet." You go to Commander He, and say that I have something to ask for. ”

Other local magistrates such as the governor of the prefecture and the county were all afraid, and they came to Mr. Yang to intercede: "Ambassador Yang, you can't do this!" Master Mu is an official of the imperial court, and this matter may really have trouble! Moreover, other small toasts who are not in the system don't have so many scruples, you almost have it......"

Yang Gonggong is just in high spirits, how can he listen to your noise! waved his hand: "Sons, it's time to reimburse the Great Emperor!" Our prospecting team has already found out, here, there, and there, there are mines under those Tusi Villages! It's all demolished for our house! A shrill voice squealed the clouds.

What Yang Gonggong never expected happened. The most powerful local Mujiazhai is vulnerable to a blow from the regular army, but the other unsightly little toasts have beaten the Ming army demolition teams from all other provinces!

Well, you guessed it right - that's what Master Mu is looking for Commander He for.

He Shixun and several other military leaders have gained a lot of benefits in the copper mine, and seeing the fat in front of them being taken away by Yang Gonggong, can you not hate it in your heart? After the guidance of Master Mu, each village has successively "picked up" a lot of weapons that have been "accidentally lost" or "scrapped" in the surrounding guards, among which there are even big killers such as tiger squat cannons used by the imperial court for border troops! Where have the officers and soldiers in the mainland seen this! At the same time, there were also many men in the villages who wore national costumes but could not speak Dongba language, and they used the southern and northern dialects to demonstrate and teach the mountain people to use these weapons - some were still practicing various defensive and offensive formations!

Facing the defeated soldiers who cried for their father and mother, Yang Gonggong was a little stupid. At this moment, a bad news came: the tax factory in Tengyue Prefecture was burned down by the local people - the Zhang Anmin Zhang team who said that he was not staying in Lijiang and was sent to Tengyue Prefecture, oh, he should be called Director Zhang now, oh, forget it, it doesn't matter what it is called-because he has been cut down by the local people!

Cut into several pieces.

This knowledge point:

There are two theories about the origin of the six doors.

One. There are three traditional departments in charge of the division & law & department: Dali Temple, the Criminal Department, and the Inspectorate, collectively known as the "Three Law Divisions". The doors of these institutions, according to the requirements of the shape and rituals, can only be three bays (one bay between the two columns). There are two large doors corresponding to each bay. In this way, the entire office hall has a total of six door panels. From the three law divisions to the state and county yamen, all of them are made in this way. Therefore, the folk call the officials, and the fast catches are referred to by this name.

Second. Yeshi said that during the Wanli period, the imperial court established a secret organization integrating martial arts masters, secret agents, famous arresters, and killers, specializing in dealing with major cases at the national level. This institution is very mysterious, except for the north side is a wall, and the east, south, and west sides, each with two doors open, hence the name - however, personal management, just listen to this, don't take it seriously.

Temples and temples.

Temple, in fact, refers to a service department of the imperial court, such as Taifu Temple, Guanglu Temple, Honglu Temple, Dali Temple, etc.

The Han Dynasty returned to the east with the white horse carrying the Buddhist scriptures, and also brought a (some say two) high monks, as well as a statue of Sakyamuni. At first, the imperial court was received at Honglu Temple. The monks left to preach the law, and Emperor Yongming of the Han Dynasty built the White Horse Temple in Luoyang in order to show his grandeur - you see, this new house has the same specifications as the government department that receives you, and it is also called a temple. The White Horse Temple is also known as the "Ancestral Garden" by Buddhists in other Asian countries.

The temple is a place to worship the ancestors, such as the Taimiao. Taimiao is a place where the royal family worships their ancestors, in the imperial palace. The palace is the inner residence of the royal family, and other idlers are not allowed to enter unless they click. Another example is the Temple of Confucius, the Temple of Land, the Temple of Family, etc. Later, the place of worship of the Buddha Guanyin and other places is called a temple because it also has the meaning of sacrifice.

The outside is called "Tang", Chaotang. Together, it is the inner temple and the outer hall, so there is a word called "temple", which refers to the internal and external courts of the integration of the family and the country.

The temple is dedicated to the emperor's ancestors, and the temple is for the current emperor, so, theoretically, the specifications of the temple are higher than the temple.

But in any case, the White Horse Temple is a tall title named by the emperor, so later the Buddhist disciples built the place to worship the Buddha, all called the temple, to the people, see the smoke of incense, it is called the temple. Today, temple has gradually become a word.
