Chapter 73: Field Medical Corps
The new Sarak Abbey was an extension of the original Priory, and to be honest, Rhodes hadn't been here for a long time. Arguably the oldest monastery in the entire history of Blackhammer, this small monastery was the first to be built with the approval of Rhodes' hand, predating the temple of the bear god Urson.
Originally, the monastery was built to keep Lyanna and her gang of Sharak believers. Later, the original decision proved to be correct. Over the years, Lyanna and her team of priests have rescued and healed the people and soldiers of Blackhammer Castle. Those soldiers who were seriously wounded on the battlefield, as long as they were not fatally wounded, came to the infirmary of the monastery, and basically could be cured.
As the construction of the Great Monastery progressed more and more rapidly, the old monastery gradually became history. Looking at the new Sarkra Monastery, which was about to be completed, Rhodes had all kinds of feelings in his heart. There is some excitement and pride, and some guilt and self-blame. By and large, this goddess of mercy came to mind every time the priests of Sarac were needed. It is indeed the most obscure. Saving people in the slums, doing unpaid, hard and tiring work. When the commoners needed treatment and looked down on the doctors, they came to the monastery for help, and as long as they were devout believers, they would not die without help. Thinking of this, Rod felt that he really shouldn't ignore its existence.
"Rod, why are you here?"
The chief priestess, Lyanna, came out of the convent, her hands stained with blood, and even her fair face stained with blood. Seeing Rod's sudden visit, the chief priestess was a little caught off guard, she tried to find a basin of water to wash away the blood stains on her body, but she couldn't see the water for a while, she was busy and embarrassed.
"I'm coming to see you, and by the way, there's something I'd like to talk to you about. β
Rod walked over and said calmly.
"That'...... Then you wait for me. I just had surgery ......"
Lyanna said awkwardly.
"It's okay, there's no hurry. I'll wait for you. β
Rod replied with a smile.
A few minutes later, Lyanna cleaned up, changed into a light blue velvet robe, and appeared in front of Rod.
"Let's talk as we go. β
Rhodes said.
They walked out of the monastery and along the riverbend walk. It was the equivalent of a lord's private garden, and there were basically no civilians allowed to enter. However, the guards still followed closely behind, and it was their duty.
"Have you been seeing a lot of patients in the monastery lately?"
Walking along the riverbend walk, Rhodes asked in a low voice, brushing aside the branches. In the arsenal in the distance, thick smoke kept rising from the chimney. However, due to the downwind direction, these heavy industrial pollution cannot be blown into the urban area.
"No, it's much better now than it was three years ago. Moreover, the population of the towns has increased, and the number of sick people has decreased. Most patients feel that they only seek out Sarak when they are sick. However, they were all wrong, and Sarak's greatest wish was that there would be no disease or suffering in the world. I've recently been working on herbs that can help people prevent certain infectious diseases. β
Walking on the river trail, Lyanna said excitedly like a child. She is in a good mood, and it can be seen that the busy life of the day does not make her feel tired, but enjoys it. What a workaholic, Rhodes sighed in his heart.
"Good work. Rod whispered. "What about the medical school, is everything going well?"
"It's okay, uniform training can give them better treatment skills, but the key is like you said, the most important thing is to develop medical ethics. β
The priestess returned with a smile. The early spring sun sprinkled lightly on her face, gentle and pleasant. 49 eBooks
"That's good. Lyanna, I have come today for a special matter to discuss with you. β
Finally, after a greeting and greetings, Rhodes threw out the subject.
"Huh?"
The priestess asked, tilting her head, her blue eyes fixed on the man in front of her.
"I think you've heard of the Knights of the Sons of Ersun. β
Rod pursed his lips and said.
"Well, an organization formed by the most powerful bear knights of Blackhammer Castle. β
"I plan to find people in the priesthood of Sarak who also have strong bodies and perseverance in faith, and form a field medical corps to treat wounded soldiers on the front lines of the battlefield. β
Rod looked at Lyanna and saw that the other party did not react, so he continued-
"Lyanna, you know, in every battle, someone gets wounded, and most of the injuries don't actually kill in the first place, and these wounded soldiers die later, mostly because they missed the best time to heal, and when they are dragged to the camp or the castle, they die from excessive bleeding or other causes such as wound infection. If we can set up a battlefield medical team to treat the wounded on the front line, then many lives will be saved. What do you think?"
After saying that, Rod observed the priestess's expression and saw Lyanna frowning. A melancholy look.
"It's not that it can't be done. But now the priests are mostly women, do you want a group of women with no combat experience to go to the front?"
After a moment's hesitation, Lyanna voiced her concerns.
"But there are also men, so that's why I said I need to go through the selection. In fact, it is not necessary to select from among believers, but when necessary, they can be selected from medical schools. Of course, going to war is a high-risk profession, and I will increase the salary accordingly. β
Rod paused, turned and said. The guards behind him stopped at the same time and stopped to guard.
"Rode, you know, it's not a question of selection, it's not a question of salary. Rather, ......" Lyanna turned away, leaning on the railing with both hands, looking at the endless Winter Spring River, her eyes flashing with a faint sadness.
"Rather...... It's about people's psychology. β
Lyanna turned her head and said againβ
"You know, Rhodes, the biggest trauma that the battlefield takes on people is not physical, it's mental. Many soldiers return to the barracks or towns after a bloody battle, and they have certain mental problems. Or irritable, or irritable, or insomnia, depressed mood, and so on. I'm afraid that the doctors didn't go through a similar scene, and they would have similar symptoms when they returned from the battlefield, so it's a pity that we worked so hard to train a doctor ended up being wasted. Goddess Sarak wouldn't want that to happen either. β
"That's a real problem. Well, I think we can increase the scope of enrollment in medical schools, so that doctors after graduation can choose for themselves, whether to join the army or flow into society and become a pure civilian doctor. β
Rod sighed and whispered. It seems that some things cannot be achieved overnight, and some ideas are good, but when it comes to actual implementation, there are still many practical problems.
