Chapter Seventy-Four: A New Ancient Chronicle

Ginza, Kabukiza.

As one of Japan's most iconic Kabuki theaters, the building dates back to 1889, and over the course of more than 100 years, the building has been burned down, rebuilt, and rebuilt several times in the style of the Momoyama period.

It has a status in the world of Kabuki, and is home to countless national treasures of Kabuki performers, and it is considered a great honor for newcomers to perform here.

Today's performance at Kabukiza is a newcomer, and according to the norm, the attendance rate of newcomers is not too high, but this time it is obviously an exception, tickets are sold out early, and a "Thanksgiving" banner is hung in front of the ticket window. The people who came to buy tickets were women, ranging in age from their teens to their fifties, who did not at all look like the traditional audience of Kabuki, and the ticket windows were crowded. The theater manager has not seen such a grand occasion for more than ten years, but he feels that this ancient art has finally been revitalized, and that it can still attract such a large number of audiences in this era, and God is really grateful to God. The staff knew the audience better than the manager, and said with a wry smile that the manager had misunderstood, they were not so interested in traditional art, and the purpose of coming here was just to see the man who was stunning.

The newcomer on stage is named Ruri Kazama, and the repertoire of the performance is called "New Ancient Chronicles".

The curtain on the stage was low and pitch black, and the guests in the audience whispered to each other. Most of them are regulars in nightclubs, and they are used to talking and laughing with cups and lamps on weekdays, but the atmosphere tonight is quite different, and the audience is dressed up and reserved like ladies.

Although she was born as a cowherd, Ruri Kazama's performances have been praised by many kabuki masters, Ruri Kazama is a newcomer to Kabuki, and before that he could only be regarded as a kabuki lover, but the masters did not mind saying in the newspapers that he did not hesitate to put down his body to visit the noisy nightclubs in order to listen to the performance of this kabuki lover.

This is not a ticket-based show, but a real, authentic master-level kabuki performance.

In the box on the second floor, Caesar, Chu Zihang, Fingal and humpback whales are in one box, and Lu Mingfei, Eriyi, Ange and Uesugi are in another box. They hold a handwritten invitation card from Ruri Kazama, they are the VIPs of VIPs, they sit in the box with the best location, and an invitation can bring two additional people, so the humpback whale softly grinds hard bubbles and asks for a place from Chu Zihang, he has a white belt with the words "Kazama Life" written on his forehead, and a telescope on his chest, looking like a fanatical fan, looking like he doesn't want to miss any details.

"Have you ever seen a Kabuki performance? Do you understand?" Chu Zihang asked Caesar in a low voice.

"I saw a reception performance at the Japanese consulate in New York, and the actor's face was as white as a dead man." Caesar replied.

"That's all you remember?" Chu Zihang shook his head.

Caesar thought again: "And ...... The girl who accompanied me to the show that day wore a nude evening gown with rhinestones all over her waist, and she walked with a thin waist that was dazzling."

"So you can't actually understand Kabuki performances, right?" Chu Zihang calmly pointed out.

"I think that's excusable." Fingal interjected, "Watching a show with a beautiful girl, who cares about what the performance is? And it doesn't matter if we can't understand the performance, isn't there a translation screen above the stage? If we read the translation, we can also know the content of his performance."

"Just now, the waiter said that this was specially requested by Ruri Kazama, and the audience is all Japanese, and we are the only ones who can't understand the lyrics." Caesar said.

"Looks like Ruri Kazama really wants us to understand his performance."

The lights went out and all eyes were on the stage.

Sakuragi's snare drum sounded hoarse and low under the drummer's tapping, like a lonely soul that has wandered for thousands of years. The curtain opened, and the plain white woman stood quietly in the center of the stage, her long black hair scattered.

"All kinds of happiness in the world are like a flash in the pan and the shadow of the moon; The rest are lonely and painful, and often accompany the Yellow Springs on their way home." The woman spoke softly and raised her head slowly, her face as pale as paper, but she hooked a touch of the corner of her eye

Bitter blood red.

Ruri Kazama's appearance seems to have really incarnated a ghost in the depths of the Yellow Spring, but his figure is slender and graceful, absolutely beautiful and charming, which makes people feel a slight wave in their hearts.

All the audience were impressed by the feminine charm interpreted by Ruri Kazama, this is art without thresholds, it is intuitive beauty, just like a thousand-year-old female ghost attached to him, singing and dancing through his body, the female ghost must be a beauty in the world during her lifetime.

In the song and dance of Ruri Kazama, the large white sleeves are spread out like the wings of a white bird, so that the audience can clearly see the ancient words written in ink on them, the left sleeve symbolizes the rising sun, the growth of all things and the life like a beautiful dream, and the right sleeve when it flutters, symbolizes the appearance of the moon, the dry bones and sand, and the eternal silence of the yellow spring.

Naturally, as the song and dance continued, the white robe on the outside of Ruri Kazama finally faded, revealing the colorful clothes inside. At first glance, the colorful shirt seems to be the dress of the living, but a closer look reveals that it is really a funeral dress that only the dead will wear, and the colorful embroidery on it is not dazzling flowers, but the lines of skeletons and maggots woven into that color.

The secondary screen above the stage shows the background information of the play, Ruri Kazama's new mythological drama is based on the story of the marriage of the father god Izanagi and the mother goddess Izanami in the traditional Japanese myth Kojiki, and the later reversal of the story, and he plays the role of the Japanese mother goddess Izanami.

In the story of Kojiki, Izanagi and Izanami are the first man and woman born in the vast world, and they entered into a divine marriage with each other, giving birth to the land of Japan and the gods of Japan. When Izanami was burned to death while giving birth to Kagu, the god of fire, the grief-stricken Izanagi missed his wife and trekked to the depths of the Yellow Spring to save her.

The first couple in Japanese mythology poured out their lovesickness through the veil, and the dead Izanami was persuaded by her husband to agree to return to Yoyo together, but she made a request that Izanagi wait outside the main hall of the Yellow Springs to groom herself. Izanagi waited for a long time, but never saw his wife come out, so he broke off one of the wooden teeth on the wooden comb and lit it, and this faint flame illuminated the eternal darkness of the Yellow Springs Kingdom, and Izanagi saw the body of his dead wife, which had not yet recovered, it was a carrion crawling with maggots, pus and boiling insects, with a terrifying face, and wearing colorful corpse clothes.

Izanagi fled from the country of Huangquan in terror, and the ashamed Izanami hated her husband's broken contract, and chased after Izanagi with the ugly Huangquan ghost girl, until they reached the border between Yoyo and Huangquan, a place called Huangquan Hirazaka, and Izanagi moved a boulder to block Huangquan Hirazaka, separating Yoshimi and Huangquan, and Izanami finally couldn't catch up with him, so the husband and wife made a decisive oath across the boulder, and Izanami vowed to kill a thousand people every day on Japanese soil, Izanagi vowed to build 1,500 maternity wards and give birth to 1,500 babies a day, and the nation of Japan was born.

The warm golden light envelops the stage, and the background shifts from the gloomy Yellow Springs to the warm world, and Izanagi, dressed in a golden robe, appears on the stage, wearing a carved wooden mask and stepping on clogs, walking out of the circle on the stage, while chanting poems in praise of his three newborn children.

These three children were born when Izanagi cleaned his filth after returning from the Yellow Springs Kingdom, and when he cleaned his left eye, he gave birth to Amaterasu, when he cleaned his right eye, Tsukiyomi was born, and when he cleaned his nose, he gave birth to Kensu Susanoo. Izanagi ordered the three nobles to rule the world for him, and he gave Amaterasu the Mirror of Yagaku, which symbolizes the sun, to Amaterasu, and Amaterasu went to rule the kingdom of the gods, Takamagahara. Give the eight-foot Qionggou jade, which symbolizes the moon, to the moon reading life, and the moon reading life will go to govern the night country; The last Kensu Susanoo was given the sharpest sword in Izanagi, the Ten Fist Sword, and was assigned to govern the sea.

Izanagi danced merrily with the children in the front desk, while Izanami wept and sang behind the black veil of tulle, and the plain white figure lingered repeatedly, as if the pain of abandonment could never be dissolved.

The black curtain symbolizes the eternal severance of the Yellow Spring, and Izanami, who has fallen into the Yellow Spring forever, recalls the original divine marriage in the song and dance. At that time, Japan had just risen from the sea, and the two siblings descended to the island and erected a pillar of heaven and asked fate if they could as brother and sister

Marry and have offspring, and fate says that you walk around the sides of the pillar, forgetting who you are, and when you meet each other, it is considered to be the first encounter. So they walked back to back around the pillar, and when they forgot who they were, Izanagi blurted out in surprise, "Oh, what a beautiful woman!" Izanami also responded, "Oh, what a handsome man!" So the two made a promise, concluded a marriage contract, and gave birth to the land of Japan and the gods.

The song reverberates, Ruri Kazama perfectly interprets the sadness that can't be washed away even by pouring water from all over the world, and Izanami sings and dances alone in hell in a corpse robe, surrounded only by dry bones. The audience was as silent as death, and some of the guests who were good at appreciating Kabuki performances and some of the guests with strong empathy skills had begun to secretly wipe away tears.

The first half ended here, and during the intermission, there was no noise in the lounge, everyone was immersed in the performance just now, some people were stunned, reminiscing about the previous performance, and some whispered to express their amazement.

In the box, Uesugi Yue couldn't sit still, he looked at Lu Mingfei: "Is it over?" Can I go see my son?"

"I advise you not to disturb him at this time." Ange said.

"Why? It makes sense that I'm going to see my son, right?" Uesugi said.

"Don't even say if he's really your son." "I don't know about him, but it's clear that he's at the pinnacle of kabuki performance."

"The blood of the dragon family can give the half-breed a lot of advantages, but in terms of art, this advantage is very small, and most half-breeds don't have any artistic achievements, but this Ruri Kazama, he is a true artist." "If you've ever worked with artists, you'll know one thing, and that's not to disturb the artist's work," Ange continued.

"But...... Isn't it halftime? I don't bother him to perform, I just want to meet him." Uesugi said.

"What the principal means is that this performance is part of Ruri Kazama's creation." Lu Mingfei explained, "My advice is the same as that of the principal, it's best not to disturb him at this time, not for any reason such as respecting art, but because he invited us to watch his performance, there must be his plan, it is better to wait until the performance is over and see what he wants."

Hearing Lu Mingfei say this, Uesugi Yue had no choice but to hold back his anxious mood and wait quietly for the second half of the performance.

The plot of the second half is completely different from the story style of the first half, telling the story of Susanoo who killed Yagi Orochi after being driven out of Takamagahara.

The plot is narrated on the screen, introducing Susanoo, who was driven out for sabotage in Takamagahara, wandering alone with a ten-fist sword to a place called "Izumo". Here he meets a beautiful girl named Ki Inada Hime, the eighth daughter of an elderly couple, and all seven of her sisters are devoured by the Yokai Yaki Orochi, who has a large body size and eight heads like mountains.

The ferocious Yaki Orochi devours a young girl every year, and this year it is the turn of Ki Inada Hime, Susanoo likes Ki Inada Hime, this brave young man makes a marriage contract with the beautiful Ki Inada Hime, determined to kill the Yaki Orochi to eliminate harm for the locals, he asks two old men to make eight gates out of a fence, prepares eight jars of liquor in front of the eight gates, and then turns Ki Inadahime into a comb and sticks it on his head, waiting for the arrival of the Yaki Orochi. The eight heads of the Yaki Orochi were drunk after drinking the spirits, so Susanoo took the opportunity to cut off the head of the Yagi Orochi with the ten-fist sword, cutting it off one by one, because of such a feat, the ten-fist sword had the name of "Heavenly Feather Feather Slash", "Feather Feather" is the meaning of the big snake. When Susanoo slashed the snake's tail, he found that a divine sword like the Heavenly Feather Feather Slash actually broke a gap, and only then did he find that there was a sword sharper than the Heavenly Feather Slash hidden in the tail of the Yaki Great Snake, which was the famous Tiancong Cloud Sword. Susanoo dedicated the sword Tencong Cloud to his sister Amaterasu and married Ki Inada Hime.

This time, Ruri Kazama plays the role of not Ki Inadahime, but Yaki Orochi, who wears a scaly robe over his plain clothes and dances in exactly the same way as Izanami, except that there are no lyrics.

There was a commotion in the audience, and the audience was talking, some of whom couldn't understand the strange performance. The Japanese audience is right

The battle of the snake slayer was supposed to be a fierce confrontation, but Ruri Kazama performed a dance between a woman and a boy. Susanoo's sword slashed at Ruri Kazama, and bright red fuel flowed down the scales. Eventually, Ruri Kazama fell to the center of the stage, and Susanoo knelt beside him and held up the Heavenly Feather Feather Slash, piercing the heart of Yaki Orochi and declaring victory.

Cold fireworks erupted from all sides of the stage, and Susanoo tore off the scaly robe that covered Ruri Kazama's glass in a field of fire, revealing a blood-colored woman, who was Izanami's appearance, lying quietly in the center of the stage, like a dead leaf that had lost its last bit of greenery in the light.
