Chapter 0366: The Battle of the Buddha and the Dao
In recent days, there has been a rumor in Yecheng that the king of Wei wants to set a national religion and make a choice between Buddhism and Taoism, and choose one as the state religion!
This was all due to a notice posted by Ran Min in which he offered a large reward for 3,000 Taoist priests to go to the Korean Peninsula to preach. This was originally a simple notice, but it caused an uproar among the people!
Ran Min resigned Taoism like this, could it be that Taoism should be designated as the state religion?
You must know that since ancient times, there has been a dispute between Buddhism and Taoism.
At this time, between Buddhism and Taoism, there is a faint tendency to divide the court.
In the north, the common people mostly believed in Buddhism, especially within the boundaries of the original Karma Zhao, and the two emperors of the Karma Zhao Empire, Shi Le and Shi Hu, were even more respectful of Buddhism out of consideration for their rule.
In the south, there are many believers.
From the end of the Han Dynasty to the Wei and Jin dynasties, there were constant wars and turmoil, and there were few peaceful days. The emperor and the warlords with military power kill people without blinking. Intellectuals, even those who have squeezed into the ruling class, feel the danger of the times and live in fear.
When I get up in the morning, I touch my neck, and my head is still growing on it, who knows if it will fall off at night? They no longer want to be a good official and help the emperor govern the people.
If you still take this as your life ideal and ambition, then you are really a fool! Live one, play one, count one! Therefore, many people in the scholarly class lived in secret, had fun in time, and even indulged in luxury, drunk and dreamed of death.
There are also Ran Laozi and Zhuangzi to find spiritual sustenance, read Lao Zhuang, talk about Lao Zhuang, be quiet and do nothing, conform to nature, transcend the world, and become a fashionable topic.
In real life, we can't help but go with the flow and go with the flow. is uncomfortable, so I have to comfort myself with Lao Zhuang's mystical philosophy.
The more this happens, the more I feel that life is precious. Zhuangzi's knowledge is very good, that is, life and death are regarded as the same thing, which cannot be believed. It seems that one morning, everyone woke up and suddenly remembered the preciousness of life, so they wrote poems and expressed their feelings.
What "morning dew", "golden stone", are all popular terms.
The morning dewdrops, as soon as the sun shines, disappear without a trace, which is a metaphor for the shortness of life.
Metals, ores and the like can withstand the passage of time, but unfortunately, "life is not as good as gold and stone"! Find a way to live longer! Many people pay attention to various health regimens. Some people imagine that if the properties of gold and stone were transferred to the human body, the body would probably become as indestructible as gold and stone.
So many people go to find a variety of minerals to eat, the most famous "paddle five stone powder", is the use of red stone grin, purple quartz and other mineral stone medicine as raw materials.
Under this atmosphere of the times, the development of Taoism was naturally affected. Of course, the result of Taoism catering to fashion also further promoted the atmosphere of the times.
Zhang Lu surrendered to Cao Cao, received preferential treatment, and became a senior official. Many people in the bureaucratic class followed the Tao, and the Five Buckets of Rice spread among them.
Like Wang Xizhi, a famous calligrapher of the Jin Kingdom, he belonged to a wealthy family that had been officials for generations, and his ancestors believed in the Five Buckets of Rice for several generations, probably starting from the Han and Wei dynasties. The name of Wudou Midao was very vulgar, and it was later stopped and changed to Shidao.
In the lower strata of society, tens of thousands of Wudoumi Dao people followed Zhang Lu to move north. Taiping Dao was dying because of the harsh suppression, and Wudou Midao took the opportunity to expand his power. Many of the original ordinary believers, after entering the mainland, developed a group of people, and proclaimed themselves sacrificial wine. There are also people who have become powerful, so they appoint themselves as teachers.
Many of the Taoism that spread among the people were involved in the peasant uprisings at the time of the curtain.
Cao Cao himself also had some immortal thoughts. But I don't really believe in Zhang Lu's Wudou Midao. He surrendered Zhang Lu and tolerated the survival of Wudou Midao, all out of political considerations.
In fact, he adopted a two-handed policy of both exploitation and restriction of Taoism. Cao Cao also once summoned some influential immortal monks in society to his side, the main purpose was to control them, fearing that they would incite the common people to rebel.
The Tao of the Teacher, which was spread among the bureaucratic aristocracy and the scholarly class, had more contact with the immortal monks. This leads to a further convergence of the two. Daoist thinkers like Ge Hong came into being.
And what about Buddhism in the North?
According to the record of "Zizhi Tongjian": At the beginning, Zhao Zhule predicted success or failure with the picture of Zhu monk and Buddha.
And the tiger is on the throne, especially respectful, dressed in silk brocade, multiplied by carving. On the day of the court meeting, the prince and the princes went to the hall with their wings, and the master sang "Yamato kills, and everyone sits up."
So that Sikong Li Nong asked about the daily life, the prince and the princes were five days a day. The people of the country are turned into Buddhas, and they are troubled Buddhas. Where Cheng is, there is no one who dares to spit on it. Fight for the temple and cut out the family.
The tiger is a mixture of truth and falsehood, or avoids servitude as a traitor, but the edict says: "Buddha, the state enshrines." If there is no rank in Lilu, should they be Buddha? The author Lang Wang Du and others said: "The king sacrifices, and the ceremony is preserved." Buddha, the god of foreign countries, should be worshipped by Zizhuhua. At the beginning of the Han Dynasty, the Han people were allowed to establish temples and capitals to worship them, and the Han people were not allowed to become monks; The same is true of Wei Shi. Today, it is advisable to prohibit the following ministers from burning incense and worshipping in the temple; The Zhao people are the ones who are shamen, and they all return to the first service. ”
The tiger edict said: "I was born from the border, and I was the king of the summer, and as for the feast, it should be based on the customs." The Buddha is the god of Rong and should be worshipped. The people of Qiyi and Zhao are happy to serve the Buddha, and they listen to it. ”
Pay attention to Wang Du's "The Han clan first preached its way, only to listen to the people of the Western Regions to build temples and capitals to worship it, and the Han people were not allowed to become monks; The same is true of Wei Shi. It can be seen that although Buddhism began to be introduced to China as early as the early years of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
However, before the Wuhu Rebellion, Buddhism has been strongly rejected by the Han society as a foreign "Hu Religion" invasion culture, and the Han and Wei courts have explicitly ordered the Han people not to become monks, but only allow "the people of the Western Regions to build temples and capitals to worship them", that is, it is only popular among the Hu people in the Western Regions of China, and the Han people are not allowed to believe in Buddhism, so there has been no market in the Han people, and the influence is minimal.
In order to culturally enslave the Han people, the Shizhao rulers vigorously promoted Buddhism, broke the ban on Han people not to become monks, and encouraged Han people to convert to Buddhism.
Wang Du's proposition was an attempt by Han intellectuals to resist foreign rulers and defend the traditional culture of the Han nationality in terms of religion and culture.
As a result, Buddhism almost became the state religion of Later Zhao.
But now the situation is different, the people take Buddhism as the state religion, and they want to enslave the Han people in this way, but now it is Ran Min who is in power, doesn't he want to protect the rights and interests of the Han family and maintain the dignity of Han Rao?
And Fo Tucheng, who was preaching in Liangzhou, changed color after hearing that Ran Min was going to make Taoism the state religion, and then went south by boat, and went straight to Yecheng!
