Everyone should know that Liu Yongfu of the Black Flag Army, Liu Yongfu (1837~1917), formerly known as Ye, also known as the name, double-character Liu Ye or Liu Yi, the word Yuanting. A native of Qinzhou, Guangdong (now belonging to the Leizhou Peninsula of Guangxi), Fangcheng, Gusendong, Xiaofeng Township. In the twenty-fifth year of Daoguang, (1845), he moved to Shangsi Zhili Hall (now Shangsi County) in Guangxi with his parents to farm and farm. In the second year of Xianfeng (1852), he worked as a shipwright and a sailor on the Zuojiang route, and learned boxing and kung fu with his father and uncle in his spare time. Soon after, because of the death of both parents, he made a living by collecting firewood and fishing. In the seventh year of Xianfeng, because life was really difficult, six people including fellow villager Deng Afu participated in the peasant rebel army of the Guangxi Tiandihui and carried out activities in the area of Guishun (now Jingxi). In the third year of Tongzhi, after the failure of the Taiping Rebellion (1864), the Qing government mobilized a large number of troops to encircle and suppress the peasant rebels in Guangxi. In the following year, the rebel army suffered heavy losses, Liu Yongfu led more than 200 people to the Ande Beidi Temple to hold a flag ceremony, with the seven-star black flag as the military flag, so called the Black Flag Army, Liu Yongfu believed that the current peasant uprising force was weak, and was unable to protect the countryside of Xiangzi, so he was ready to enter the mountainous areas of northern Vietnam to gain a foothold. In the sixth year of Tongzhi, he led the army into Lu'an Prefecture (now Cao Ping) in northern Vietnam and founded the "Black Flag Army of the Neutralization Regiment". In the ninth year of Tongzhi, he entered Baosheng (now Lao Cai). Since then, with Baosheng as the base, open up mountains and forests, gather people to cultivate and live, rectify checkpoints, develop commerce, "come from thousands of miles at a time, willing to be under the command", the team has rapidly grown to more than 2,000 people, the strength has grown, and help the Vietnamese government to fight. In the 11th year of Tongzhi, the Nguyen court of Vietnam appointed Liu Vinh Phuc as the defense envoy of Baosheng. In November of the twelfth year of Tongzhi, the French army captured Hanoi, and northern Vietnam was in an emergency. At the request of the Nguyen court, Liu Vinh Phuc led more than 1,000 soldiers to the outskirts of Hanoi in the starry night, and after a bloody battle, defeated the French army, killed the enemy chieftain An Nye, and recovered Hanoi. Because of his outstanding military achievements, the Nguyen court named him the deputy governor of Sanxuan, governing the three provinces of Shanxi, Hung Hoa and Tuyen Quang in Vietnam, and controlled the passage of the French army trying to invade China along the Red River, which was in 1874, but at this time the future of the Black Flag Army was unknown, because their main military force was the Guangxi villagers, mainly displaced people, but at the same time they served the Vietnamese government, they were equivalent to mercenaries, and there was no real sense of belonging. On the side of their Qing Dynasty, they were the rebels of the Heaven and Earth Society, and there was no place for the rebel court.

On July 30, 1874, in the Baosheng station, 37-year-old Liu Yongfu unexpectedly met five overseas Chinese businessmen.

That's right, these five people are 25-year-old Wang Yong, 12-year-old Meng Xiaohui, 12-year-old Chen Wenting, 13-year-old Wang Xiaofeng, 16-year-old Chen Mengling, the five of them are very magical, after crossing back to the mainland in 1874, the Qing Dynasty Guangxi Fangcheng Luojun Port near the island, they will hide some unnecessary luggage and equipment in the moonlight island, and then find a way to buy a boat in the hands of local fishermen, directly along the Red River to Lao Cai, because of the addition of a diesel motor on the boat, two days to Wusheng (Lao Cai).

Liu Youfu was still happy to receive them, especially after hearing that they had been in contact with the rest of the Taiping Army in South America.

"General Liu, in the past few years, in the northern region of Vietnam, you have resisted the French invasion of the southwestern border of China, born like death, guarding the border and protecting the land for China, you are not protecting the Qing Dynasty, but the 30,000,000 Chinese people in the land of China, I would like to extend the highest salute to you on behalf of hundreds of thousands of overseas Chinese in the Americas!" Wang Yong stood upright, and the modern military salute greeted Liu Yongfu.

"Mr. Wang's words are serious, what we are doing is just out of the helplessness of our two righteous armies in order to survive! You don't know how difficult it is for us in a foreign land, we can't eat enough, we can't dress warmly, and the Vietnamese government gives us more and less grain and grass from time to time, and they are not really good to us, in addition to fighting, we also have to farm and harvest grain by ourselves, and then collect a little bit of customs duties from passing merchants, alas! ”

Liu Yongfu asked

"You have been to so many countries in the West, and you are still knowledgeable and literate people, how do you think our path should go?"
