Lü Bu wanted to surrender, but Chen Gong and others strongly opposed it because they were guilty of Cao Cao, and said to Lü Bu: "Duke Cao came from afar, and the situation cannot last, if the general uses infantry and cavalry to garrison the outside of the city, I will lead the rest of the men and horses to close the city gate and guard it." If Cao Cao attacks the general, I will lead the troops to attack Cao's army from behind; If Cao Cao was just attacking the city, the general would come to the rescue from outside. In less than a month, Cao's army ran out of food, and Cao Cao could be defeated by launching an attack. Lu Bu agreed with him. Lu Bu's wife said: "In the past, the Cao family treated Chen Gongtai like a baby, and Chen Gong still left Cao Cao to join us. Lu Bu was tied up in front of Cao Cao and asked to be loosened, Cao Cao laughed and said, "The tiger has to be tightened." Cao Cao was quite moved, but Liu Bei said on the side: "Ming Gong, have you seen how Lu Bu served Ding Jianyang and Dong Taishi!"
