Chapter 40: A Different Peter
"Kids, eat the fruit."
Helen came out of the kitchen with a plate of fruit salad.
Today is Saturday, and George rarely takes time out to go home to rest, but instead of pure enjoyment, he takes advantage of lunch time to chat with Joey about the hero endorsement plan.
With the previous foreshadowing, and considering the vacancy of the police in high-end combat power, George is now more anxious than Joey, and can't wait to see the appearance of the super auxiliary police in the news, and enjoy some praise from the host and the public.
It was not an easy decision to make, George was under a lot of pressure, but if he succeeded, he would have achieved unprecedented merit, and the higher authorities might be dissatisfied with him, but it didn't matter, what he needed was the support of the people, and taxpayers' money.
"Mom, Jane's birthday today, so you don't have to prepare us for dinner."
Gwen quickly poked a strawberry that had almost fallen into Joey's clutches, and thrust it into her mouth.
"Got it, have fun." Helen watched the two frolic with a smile on her face, and she was very relieved to have Joey by her side.
"Be careful."
George glanced at the two of them lightly, didn't say much, picked up the newspaper and browsed the social section, he has been paying attention to the trend of public opinion recently, especially the public's comments on heroes, whether good or bad, he will study them one by one.
After continuing to make small talk at home for nearly half an hour, Gwen and George said hello to Helen and took Joey out the door.
It is definitely impossible to go directly to eat and drink for nothing, and the two are ready to go around to the nearest mall to buy birthday gifts.
The car is still Joey's blue cheetah.
With elegant lines and a cool look, it's always eye-catching.
"Let's go on a bike."
Gwen doesn't like to be high-profile, she has lived a good life since she was a child, has a father who is a governor, and is already in the limelight, superiority? Vanity? She has, but has become accustomed to nature.
"No problem, but I didn't bring my card." Joey readily agreed.
"What do you mean?" Gwen frowned, not understanding what Joey was trying to say.
"Literally."
In the U.S., bike-sharing requires a credit card to spend, but a new rule has recently been added to avoid wasting resources, so a person can only unlock one bike.
Joey spread his hands and said he was not eligible to ride a bike.
"Please, can you not be so naΓ―ve, the bicycle has no back seat, you can't take people." Gwen said speechlessly.
"Whether you can bring people or not, and whether you have a back seat, there is no necessary connection." Joey said with a look of 'dead pigs are not afraid of boiling water'.
"It's a violation of the traffic rules."
"I brought money."
Ten minutes later, the two arrived at the nearest mall, where Gwen rubbed her buttocks, feigning discomfort, and the fingering along the way made her feel the urge to kick Joey several times.
However, for the sake of the novelty of the experience, Gwen reluctantly spared the childish ghost.
"What is the right price to buy as a gift?"
Mary. Jane is a friend of Gwen's, and Joey worries about trespassing, and sometimes buying gifts that are too expensive is not necessarily a good thing and can cause stress for the host and guests.
"Jane has been complaining about the lack of water in her skin lately, you can choose a set of skin care products, the price should not be too expensive." Gwen was pleased with Joey's attentiveness.
She chose a branded lipstick herself, just enough to make a set with Joey, full of sincerity.
"Gwen, look over there, it looks like Peter."
Joey grabbed a random set of skincare products, and when he saw that Gwen had made the choice difficulty that all women do, he looked elsewhere.
I happened to see a sneaky man picking and choosing in the jewelry area, picking up a bracelet and a necklace, looking constipated and in a dilemma.
"Peter?"
Gwen subconsciously wanted to avoid it, and Peter was somewhat embarrassed that even Joey knew what was going on with her.
"Peter, over here, Gwen and I are here!"
Joey's reaction didn't disappoint Gwen, and sure enough, there was no force at all.
"Joey? Case..... Gwen! Peter was even more embarrassed than Gwen, dropping the trinkets like a thief, looking flustered.
"What a coincidence, Peter, you're here for Mary too. Jane picks a gift? β
Joey put his arm around Peter's shoulders and said enthusiastically, "Do you need me to help you with advice?" I'm very experienced when it comes to choosing gifts for girls! β
"How many?" Gwen snapped out a cold sentence.
"Say it casually." Joey said with a haha, "Aren't you worried about Peter, today is the first time I've bought a gift for a girl......"
Peter glanced at Joey resentfully, but at this time he had stabilized his mentality, and said generously: "I have known Jane for many years like Gwen, and I must not be too casual in terms of gifts, don't worry, I already have an idea." β
"That's good." Gwen smiled and said, "Peter, Jane should be looking forward to your gift. β
The words that meant something made Peter smile, and there was a kind of emptiness in his heart that the secret had been seen through.
In the last few days, he and Jane have indeed had some small stories that go beyond the boundaries of ordinary friends, of course, this is just Peter's own feelings, such as meeting alone and talking about some emotional topics, in fact, he didn't even hold hands.
But it is not surprising that innocent men are always rich in thinking, love fantasy, and like self-satisfaction, especially at Peter's age.
But this time Peter's hunch was right, Mary. Jane did have an idea for him, just waiting for tonight's showdown.
Needless to say, the three of them set off together after settling the bill, and it was not far away, and it didn't take much time to walk over.
Mary. Jane's home is a small three-story civil structure with a courtyard and a separate garage, and before she gets closer, she hears the noise of the noise.
"It seems that there are quite a few guests who arrived early." Joey frowned, he didn't really like crowded occasions.
It's a pity that the weather is too cold, and if it's summer, the probability of choosing to gather at the beach, in the jungle, or in the wild is higher.
In fact, no matter where he is, Joey doesn't really want to participate, and American-style parties are easy to cause discomfort.
"Hold on, Jane is a member of the cheerleading squad, has a cheerful personality, and there are many people who like her."
Gwen saw Joey's resistance, quietly squeezed his palm and said, "When I'm done cutting the cake, I'll make an excuse to slip away." β
"It's okay, seeing someone more uncomfortable than me, I suddenly feel better."
Peter's feet were like lead, he was struggling, his face was covered with falk, he had no social phobia, but there were many people in that room that he hated and hated him.
If it weren't for Gwen and Joey by his side, he might have chosen to leave after giving the present, which was a bit rude, but it was much better than enduring cynicism.
"Let's see who our new friends are...... Wow~~ It's Peter! Tom, Jerry, come here, our good friend Peter is here! β
Like a mad dog smelling bones, Thompson never misses an opportunity to bully Peter, calling out to friends in an exaggerated tone, as if calling for people to watch the zoo orangutans.
"Thompson, it's Jane's birthday party, you'd better be restrained." Gwen snorted coldly.
As always, she carried out the mission of the big sister and stood up for Peter.
But today, Peter was uncharacteristically uncharacteristically unwilling to accept Gwen's kindness, but instead stood up like a man and confronted Thompson's arrogant and domineering face.
"Thompson, if you still want to humiliate me the way I used to, then I will tell you with my fist that I am not the same Peter I used to be!"
